iOS 18, introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 on Monday, is bringing more functionality to the iPhone 15 Pro's Action button, according to a report. Apple is said to offer quick access to additional customisable actions, including Calculator, Stopwatch, Home, Remote, and more. At present, users can assign nine preset options to the button, in addition to it doing nothing. But it could soon offer more functionalities, such as toggling dark mode, controlling devices via the Home app, or bringing up Tap to Cash. New features coming to Action button According to a 9to5Mac report, Apple has introduced 14 new customisable actions for the Action button with iOS 18 Developer Beta 1. At present, iOS 17 has options to bring up Voice Memo, Camera, Focus, Silent Mode, Torch, Translate, Magnifier, Accessibility, and Shortcuts. In addition to these options, users can also set it to do nothing. iOS 18 is reportedly set to expand on these existing actions via a new 'Controls' option in the iPhone settings. The new options include: Calculator Alarm Stopwatch Home Timer Wallet Dark Mode Scan Code Airplane Mode Cellular Data Personal Hotspot Remote Tap to Cash Ping My Watch The Action button was introduced by Apple in 2023 with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It replaced the mute switch located above the volume controls, but isn't available on the iPhone 15 models. Control Center updates In addition to more functionalities for the Action button, Apple also revealed a major overhaul of the Control Center. While it was not showcased at WWDC, iOS 18 will allow users to access the camera features in third-party applications. The availability of this potential feature was confirmed via a new framework for developers named “LockedCameraCapture”. According to Apple, developers can use it to create an extension that allows people to launch the app's “camera experience and capture content quickly when the device is locked.” Apple Watch to Gain Automatic Sleep Tracking Support With watchOS 11 Apple Not Paying OpenAI for ChatGPT on iOS 18, macOS Sequoia: Report https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/iphone-15-pro-action-button-features-ios-18-report-apple-5881900#pfrom=topstory

A new mission appeared this week in Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion. Dual Destiny is an exotic quest hidden in the expansion's new destination, The Pale Heart. It requires a bit of legwork to unlock, but your reward for completing it is the new exotic class item—a randomly rolled drop that combines the effects of two existing exotic armour pieces. There are some powerful effects in the class item's perk pool—replicating effects of buildcrafting standards like Heart of Inmost Light, Synthocepts, Star-Eater Scales and many, many more. Being able to pair two strong exotic effects together is obviously potent, and it should allow for some incredibly powerful Prismatic builds. And the desirability of this new type of exotic is precisely why drama, following a brief window where almost everyone seemed mercifully happy, drama is kicking off in the Destiny community again. Dual Destiny, as the name implies, is a two-player activity. Its puzzles and challenges are all based around two Guardians working in tandem, to the point you can't even launch the activity unless you're already in a fireteam of two. It's also not matchmade—which is standard for any activity that requires communication, as is the case here. Your only options are to bring a friend, or jump into LFG. Throughout the post announcing the discovery of Dual Destiny on the DestinyTheGame subreddit, plenty of comments are furious about this decision. "Is this not something solo players get?" asks one. "If so, that's beyond frustrating." Another puts it more bluntly: "Why would Bungie do this crap?" For those who don't like using the game's LFG tools, or simply prefer to play without needing comms, the mission presents a high barrier between them and the acquisition of one of the big new features of the expansion. These complaints are far from universal though. In the days since Dual Destiny's release, plenty have scoffed at the idea that this is a problem at all. "It seems odd to me that a non-trivial number of people would rather miss out on the exotic class item and demand Bungie remove and rework a feature rather than have minimal interaction with a stranger for like 10 minutes," states u/Jimithyashford in one of the top posts on the subreddit right now. Some of the reason for the backlash to the backlash is, simply, that Dual Destiny is the best exotic mission Bungie has released in years. Most recent exotic missions—the ones that currently live in a rotator in the Legends section of the director—have been pretty simple affairs. Some have a time limit to overcome, but most are relatively simple combat challenges, maybe with a jumping puzzle in the middle. Dual Destiny is far more involved—its puzzles requiring players to pass information back and forth, all while the clock ticks down. It's lengthy too—three major encounters that, for my first blind run, took around 50 minutes to finish. Throw in some decent enemy pressure thanks to the new Dread units, and you've got yourself a banger. More than being good, though, for some players it represents a version of Destiny that they desperately wish was the norm. Plenty in the community have been crying out for more challenging, complex activities, and here Bungie has delivered. And putting a desirable reward behind it makes it valuable beyond the basic experience of the first run—a loot chase beyond the usually mindless grind of seasonal activities. At the risk of sounding elitist, I'm fine with not all loot being available to all players. As it stands, outside of raid weapons, almost all of Destiny 2's best items are available relatively easily. More aspirational "adept" versions of weapons may be locked behind a skill barrier, but those are just minor upgrades of the base versions—hardly worth the extra effort. There's an argument to be made that a cornerstone feature of a new expansion should have a low barrier for access, but honestly it's nice to have some valuable, desirable items locked behind an activity that sits in the middle ground between trivial and requiring a full raid team. And Bungie has come up with a decent compromise for Dual Destiny, too. You need to run the mission once to unlock the class item the first time, but after that it's available as a possible drop from any chest in the Pale Heart destination. You can keep running the mission for a guaranteed reward, or leave it up to RNG and let the grind carry you to some new rolls. I also think Dual Destiny's level of complexity is being overstated in an attempt to justify the initial outrage. Yes, you need two people. Yes, there needs to be communication. But this is not a raid level activity requiring constant back-and-forth callouts. The entire thing can be done without a mic even, just using text chat to pass information on the symbols or positions you need to clear each puzzle. There's no big DPS check or required loadout—once you've learned how to complete the mission, the execution is relatively straightforward. But the anxiety around LFG is real and is being keenly felt by some. It's a tricky needle for Bungie to thread—putting a major feature behind multiplayer cooperation gives it prestige, but risks alienating players who expected a more streamlined, straightforward way to access a big part of the new subclass. It'll be interesting to see if studio relents—risking some of the mission's status in order to offer a more frictionless option for those who just won't take the plunge. Generally it feels like the broader community opinion has landed in favour of the mission, likely driven by the desire to see more of this kind of thing in future. But it's been an interesting drama to watch unfold—as the more casual playerbase finds itself at odds with those experienced players who are relishing this new direction. Gunmen have killed the female mayor of a town in Mexico just hours after the country celebrated the election of Claudia Sheinbaum as the nation's first woman president. Yolanda Sánchez was shot in the town of Cotija, which she had governed since September 2021. She was the first woman to be elected to the post. Widespread violence against politicians has overshadowed Mexico's general election, which saw two women run for the presidency. Mexico's first female president breaks political glass ceiling Yolanda Sánchez was ambushed by gunmen in the centre of Cotija, Michoacán, on Monday. Local media say she was shot 19 times and died in hospital shortly after the attack. Her bodyguard was also killed in the gun battle. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the attack but it is widely thought that the gunmen belonged to an organised crime group. Ms Sánchez had reported receiving death threats after taking up office in September 2021. She was held for three days by armed men who had seized her at gunpoint during a visit to the neighbouring state of Jalisco in 2023. The politician said that her kidnappers had made "demands" and inflicted "psychological terror" before releasing her. While she said that she did not know what criminal group they belonged to, local newspapers said the most likely culprits where the Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG). The CJNG engages in drug trafficking as well as kidnapping for ransom and extortion. It is also infamous for targeting public officials who refuse to do its bidding. Ms Sánchez had said that the men who had threatened her after she had taken office had demanded that she hand the security of the town over to state police officers in the pay of organised crime groups. She refused and asked for the military to reinforce the town. The mayor was also provided with armed bodyguards after the incident. Her murder on Monday came less than a day after a general election that was overshadowed by the murder of local candidates. More than 20 people running for office have been killed since September according to official figures, but independent surveys have put the number closer to 40. The presidential race was won by Claudia Sheinbaum, who will be sworn in on 1 October as the first woman to hold the top office in Mexico. Ms Sheinbaum's defeated rival, Xóchitl Gálvez, has been critical of the violence which marred the campaign. Ms Gálvez said that when she called Ms Sheinbaum on Monday, she told her that "I saw a Mexico with a lot of pain and violence. I wished that she could solve the severe problems our people have”. While Ms Gálvez conceded defeat after Ms Sheinbaum's unassailable lead in the polls was announced, she has since described the campaign for the presidency as an "unequal competition against the entire state apparatus dedicated to favouring its candidate". She also said that she would challenge Ms Sheinbaum's win without specifying how she would do that. With more than 95% of the votes tallied in the preliminary count, Ms Sheinbaum had a lead of over 31 percentage points over Ms Gálvez. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c166n3p6r49o

The 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid starts at $29,845, which is for the sedan version of the Sport trim level. That hybrid powertrain is a $2500 upgrade over the nonhybrid Civic Sport ($27,245); the LX is the least expensive trim, starting at $25,345. Nonhybrids also adopt the hybrid's new Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder that lowers output from 158 to 150 horsepower. The first hybrid-powered Honda Civic in nearly a decade can be yours for under $30K. That news comes today as Honda has revealed pricing and other details about the 2025 Civic sedan, which is slated to go on sale before the hatchback version arrives sometime later this summer. Pricing for the five-door variant will likely be announced closer to that time. For 2025, the Civic Sport Hybrid sedan starts at $29,845. That's $2500 more than the nonhybrid Civic Sport sedan, which has a $27,345 base price ($700 more than last year's model). With the hybrid powertrain, the Civic makes 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and dual electric motors combining to make more torque than the sport-tuned Civic Si. There's also the better-equipped Civic Sport Touring Hybrid that starts at $32,845. That price nudges up against the hybrid Honda Civic Accord, which starts at $33,990 for the 2024 model year. Of course, you can get a nonhybrid Civic for a lot less than that, with the entry-level LX trim starting at $25,345 for 2025. While its base price rises by $300 compared with last year, the new nonhybrid Civic's myriad improvements help justify that increase. However, it sacrifices some horsepower and torque. That's due to a new Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is adopted from the hybrid Civic and replaces the previous 2.0-liter four-pot. Whereas its already poky predecessor made 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, the new Civic makes 150 horses and 133 pound-feet. Honda says the loss of power is offset by a wider torque band and better fuel-economy estimates. The nonhybrid '25 Civic is rated at up to 36 mpg combined versus last year's 35-mpg combined. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a61075011/2025-honda-civic-hybrid-sedan-price/

A baby giraffe at West Midlands Safari Park has taken its first public steps. The calf named Mtembei was born 29 May, with CCTV capturing the special moment. The Rothschild’s giraffe was introduced to the rest of the herd after being snuggled up next to his mum for the first two weeks of his life. The excitable calf has since been seen having "zoomies" - racing around other giraffes who seemed interested in their new family member. Head keeper of ungulates, Lisa Watkins, said: "He really enjoyed galloping around, having a stretch, and the rest of the herd were very excited to say ‘hello’. “He is starting to show some of his personality, but I have no doubt we will see more of his character now he is exploring his new surroundings. "He’s a relaxed calf and takes everything in his stride, just like his mum, Arusha, who is very attentive. Giraffes are recognised as a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and poaching. The arrival of Mtembei brings the number of giraffes at the park to 11. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cd11l0dvve9o

It is 20 years since Wayne Rooney announced himself as a global talent on the international stage at Euro 2004, but who will be the breakout stars of this summer's European Championship? Not many of the 622 players who could feature in Germany can be classed as total unknowns, but are any of them world-beaters in the making? Here, BBC Sport's TV and radio Euro 2024 commentators pick 24, from outside the Premier League and Scottish Premiership, who are worth watching out for this summer. Baturina has made three senior appearances for Croatia so far. Luka Modric, who is 38, has 175 caps for his country Steve Wilson: The up-and-coming face of Croatian football has inevitably been dubbed 'The Next Modric' - well of course he has! Title winners Dinamo Zagreb will not be able to hold on to him much longer after an impressive Under-21s Euros in 2023, followed by his best goalscoring season to date. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says he expects "important decisions" to be made at the G7 summit of leaders from seven of the world's richest nations. "A large part will be devoted to Ukraine, our defence and economic resilience," he said in a post on Telegram. The White House says the G7 has made good progress on a US plan to use frozen Russian assets to raise $50bn (£39bn) a year for his country. Mr Zelensky, who will attend the summit in Italy, is also expected to sign new security deals with Japan and the United States. The G7 nations of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and US have been important financial and military supporters of Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. The Russian assets that were frozen by the group, alongside the EU, when Moscow invaded Ukraine amount to $325bn. Under international law, countries cannot confiscate those assets from Russia and give them to Ukraine. But the pot is generating a lot of interest - around $3bn a year - so the idea is to use that interest in a creative way. The plan is to take out a loan on the international markets, give about $50bn to the Ukrainians each year, and use the $3bn to pay off the interest on that loan each year. It sounds relatively straightforward, but it is hugely complicated. There are still lots of technicalities to sort out. President Biden's security adviser Jake Sullivan says the "major tentpoles" of the plan have been decided and that a good outcome is likely. In recent weeks Russian officials have spoken about the idea of taking the interest from seized assets as "theft". With Mr Biden in the middle of a close election contest, and several other Western leaders lagging in the polls, there is pressure to deliver support to Ukraine while they still can. The UK's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who faces an upward struggle ahead of next month's general elections, is set to announce up to $309m in support for Ukraine's energy and humanitarian needs. Also facing voters soon is the party of French President Emmanuel Macron, who called a snap parliamentary election after a resounding loss to the far-right National Rally in last weekend's elections to the EU's parliament. Italy's Giorgia Meloni has boasted that her country was heading into this summit with “the strongest government of all”, after a strong performance in the European elections last weekend. What could the G7 do about Ukraine and Gaza? Seven new ice cream flavours and the Pope: Italy prepares to host G7 The shaky political situation in many G7 countries is causing some observers to have low expectations about what can be achieved. Natalie Tocci, the director of the Italian Institute for International Affairs, warned that "if anything will come out of this summit, it's the fear of a catastrophe playing out before our eyes," citing possible new governments led by Donald Trump in the US and the far-right in France on the horizon. Also on the agenda is the following: War in Gaza: All G7 leaders have previously backed US President Joe Biden's plan to end hostilities - including an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an increase in aid Migration: Italy is asking other nations to contribute financially to its Mattei Plan, which gives African countries grants and loans to develop their economies. But many commentators suspect it may be cover for Italy to crack down on migration Economic security: An anti-coercion pact that was adopted after last year's meeting is designed to stop countries - such as China and Russia - using their economic strength to impose their will on others. It is thought the US is keen for the issue to be discussed again this time Safety of AI: This was also raised last year, with the set-up of a process to promote "safe, secure, and trustworthy AI worldwide" Pope Francis - who will become the first pontiff to attend a G7 summit - will be addressing the subject of artificial intelligence at the conference. He has previously called for global regulation of AI, warning of its danger to ethics and human rights. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cv2203d44rlo
