After months of delay and increasingly dire warnings, the US House of Representatives approved $61bn in new aid to Ukraine by a comfortable margin. The passage is a big win for Ukraine, which has been desperate for new military supplies to stave off a Russian offensive that is gaining ground. The US Pentagon press secretary told reports on Thursday that US military supplies, including for air defence systems and artillery units, could be moved to Ukraine in a matter of days after final approval. His decision to turn to Democrats was necessitated by intense resistance among a handful of Republicans, some in key positions of power in the House, who opposed any new aid to Ukraine. Now those Republicans may force a vote on whether to oust Mr Johnson from the speaker's chair. In remarks to the press after passage of the foreign aid bill, Mr Johnson defended his actions and said he was not walking around the halls of Congress worrying about being removed from power. "I've done here what I believe to be the right thing," he said. While a move to trigger his ouster did not come on Saturday, three Republicans have come forward to call for Mr Johnson's removal - and they say more will join them in the coming days, as the House breaks for a week-long recess. "I'm actually going to let my colleagues go home and hear from their constituents," Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who drafted a resolution to remove Mr Johnson weeks ago, said after the foreign aid package was approved. Public opinion polls have shown many Republican voters souring on additional aid to Ukraine, even as Democrats and independents support American help in the war effort. If a removal vote does come, some Democrats have expressed a willingness to back the speaker - essentially rewarding him for standing up to members of his own party to ensure Ukraine aid, a high priority for Democrats and the Biden White House, cleared the House. That could give Mr Johnson a short-term lease on political power, but it is difficult to imagine how a Republican speaker can reliably count on ongoing Democratic support. While there was overwhelming bipartisan backing for this foreign aid package, at some point Mr Johnson will push legislation on an issue that angers Democrats. If his Republican critics make another move then, he may find his former allies across the aisle are much less willing to throw him a lifeline. For now, however, Mr Johnson can savour a hard-fought victory. His strategy - to break the aid package into individual components on Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan and to face down his Republican opponents who openly defied him - worked largely as planned. In his remarks after the votes, he said the legislation was not perfect, and that it was not a "blank cheque" - a reflection that recent months have shown there are clear and growing limits to US support. He said new aid must be monitored to ensure that it is being spent wisely and Ukraine must find an "endgame strategy" for the war. But he stood by the path he took to arrive at Saturday's result. The first option comes with the Mustang GT's standard 480 horsepower, while the second option adds a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger and pushes firepower north of 830 ponies. Recent cases of humans contracting sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) have raised questions about whether a disease carried by deer may be jumping the species barrier. "Zombie deer disease" is spreading among wildlife. But scientists haven't reached an agreement on whether the condition – also known as chronic wasting disease – can spread to humans and lead to a form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Chronic wasting disease, or CWD, is a type of prion disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. It's a neurodegenerative condition that infects wildlife, including deer. It has most recently been confirmed in deer, as well as moose in Canada, after previous cases were reported in Yellowstone National Park in the United States. No cases have yet been reported in humans, but a recent medical case report by doctors in Texas, US, on the deaths of two hunters who regularly ate meat from a po[CENSORED]tion of deer infected with CWD has raised fresh questions about a link with human prion disease. Both men died of CJD, but doctors investigating the deaths were unable to prove a definitive link to CWD. They urge for the need for increased surveillance and research to establish whether the disease can cross over into humans. As transmissions in animals increase across North America, Scandinavia and South Korea, some experts fear the risk of transmission to humans may also be increasing. They base their concerns on experimental studies, the history of other prion diseases transmitting from animals to humans (which is extremely rare) and the potential impacts of climate change. "As of yet, there has been no transmission from deer or elk to humans," says Jennifer Mullinax, associate professor of wildlife ecology and management at the University of Maryland. "However, given the nature of prions, CDC and other agencies have supported all efforts to keep any prion disease out of the food chain." This is what we currently know about CWD. What is zombie deer disease and what are the symptoms? Chronic wasting disease is transmitted in cervids, which are hoofed ruminant mammals, such as deer, reindeer, elk and moose. Although it is an infectious disease, CWD is not caused by a bacterium or a virus, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Instead, a misfolded prion protein causes the issue, but researchers don't yet know what causes the protein to become abnormal. Normal prion proteins potentially play a role in cell signaling. But when misfolded, they cause more proteins to misfold. Misfolded prion proteins in the brain kill brain cells and cause bodily dysfunction, leading to unusual symptoms. Symptoms include weight loss, excessive drinking and urination, poor balance and coordination, drooping ears and difficulty swallowing. The difficulty swallowing can lead to drooling and eventually pneumonia and death. The classic symptoms – and the image of an uncoordinated, stumbling and drooling animal – have led to the term "zombie deer disease". The symptoms can take months or years to manifest, making a visual diagnosis difficult. When prion proteins are misfolded, they become infectious, which leads to spread among wildlife. CWD spreads from animal to animal through direct contact with bodily fluids and waste and through indirect contact with contaminated soil, water and food. Can zombie deer disease spread to humans? The CDC estimates that in areas where the prion disease is endemic, infection rates range from 10% to 25%. In 2023, surveillance results from the Canadian province of Alberta suggest a 23% positivity rate for mule deer. Current evidence does not show that CWD can be spread to humans when they eat the meat of an infected animal, encounter infected wildlife, or drink or touch contaminated soil or water. But researchers continue to investigate whether animal-to-human transmission is possible. "The current body of research is a mixed bag, meaning we don't know yet," Mullinax says. Older research from the CDC, published in 2011 used the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network 2006-2007 po[CENSORED]tion survey to assess exposure risk. The survey included results from more than 17,000 participants. More than 65% of the total respondents reported eating wild game at least some of the time. The researchers were looking only at the prevalence of potential exposure, but they reported that no evidence of human transmission had been found to date. However, prion diseases, also called transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, are present in humans. These include Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, which is an inherited condition, and variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Former Wales international and manager John Toshack says Leighton James was "one of the very best wingers British football has ever seen." The former Wales winger who played more than 600 games in the Football League, has died at the age of 71. Toshack says Wales were "lucky" to have the former Burnley winger, who played 54 times for his country. "Leighton is one of the best two-footed players I've ever played with or seen and I have seen quite a few," he said. "I always enjoyed teaming up with him, he was full of confidence in his own ability. "Some of the best moments I had with Wales and the goals I scored were because of Leighton. He was some talent." A military base in Iraq housing a pro-Iranian militia has been damaged in an explosion, killing one and wounding eight, security officials there have said. Iraq's military reported no drones or fighter jets in the area before or during the blast. But the militia organisation involved, the Po[CENSORED]r Mobilisation Forces (PMF), blamed an attack. It comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. The PMF is an umbrella organisation that contains several pro-Iranian militias that are part of the network of proxies that Tehran has been able to use to advance its interests across the Middle East for years. Those militias have attacked US personnel and interests in Iraq on a number of occasions in the past, with the aim of trying to force the remaining US troops to leave the country. The US has regularly struck back at the militias. The Pentagon has, however, moved swiftly to deny any involvement in this incident. It comes as the long-running confrontation between Israel and Iran has recently moved into a new, more perilous phase, amid tensions heightened by the war in Gaza. In contrast to the shadow war they have been engaged in for many years, both countries appear to have directly attacked each other's territory. There was a presumed Israeli strike carried out near the Iranian city of Isfahan early on Friday morning. The attack was an apparent response to a major drone and missile barrage that Tehran launched on Israel six days earlier. The Iranian action was in retaliation for an earlier strike on senior Iranian military commanders in the Syrian capital Damascus - widely believed to have been carried out by Israel. While the conflict still seems contained to some extent for now, the Iranian foreign minister has warned that Iran will deliver an immediate and "maximum" response if Israel launches significant attacks on its interests. The explosion at Kalso military base, about 50km (30 miles) south of Baghdad, happened early on Saturday morning, the military said. A member of the PMF was killed in the blast and eight others were wounded. In a statement, the PMF said its chief of staff Abdul Aziz al-Mohammedawi had visited the base to review what investigators had found so far. The Iraqi military also said it was investigating the cause of the explosion and fire at the base. Sin embargo, son muchos los modelos y variantes de Raspberry Pi que han sido lanzados desde entonces hasta ahora, así que en este artículo vamos a recopilar cuáles son todos sus modelos y qué características tienen. Desde controlar la iluminación dinámica de una habitación hasta neutralizar los altavoces Bluetooth del vecino pasando por un PC de sobremesa completamente funcional, las Raspberry Pi no dejan de sorprendernos constantemente por el amplio abanico de posibles usos que ofrecen. Sin embargo, no todos los modelos son iguales y no se puede hacer lo mismo con todos ellos, motivo por el que consideramos que es importante el hacer una recopilación como la que te mostramos a continuación. Antes de nada, hay que aclarar un concepto. Son muchos los que dicen que las Raspberry Pi son en realidad placas de desarrollo, mientras que muchos otros sostienen que son mini ordenadores completos a los que simplemente añadiéndoles los periféricos y el almacenamiento son completamente funcionales. Pues bien, la realidad es que ambas afirmaciones son correctas en cierta medida. Técnicamente, sus creadores la definen como un SBC, siglas del anglicismo de Single Board Computer o, traducido, ordenador monoplaca. Esto significa que técnicamente hablando las Raspberry Pi pueden comportarse efectivamente como mini ordenadores porque integran procesador, gráfica y memoria (y almacenamiento, aunque hay que ponérselo aparte), y además cuentan con estándares de PC como son los puertos USB, HDMI o RJ-45. Sin embargo, también se consideran placas de desarrollo (especialmente algunos de sus modelos que veremos en seguida) esencialmente por sus conectores GPIO, que permiten utilizar una infinidad de accesorios externos para que los desarrolladores hagan sus invenciones, desde una cámara a un simple sensor de movimiento. Con todo, hay que tener en cuenta una cosa: cuando se habla de Raspberry Pi mucha gente también lo relaciona con Arduino, pero Arduino sí que es puramente placas de desarrollo mientras que, como os hemos explicado, las Raspberry Pi sí que se pueden considerar mini PC.
