What is it? Plug-in hybrids such as this new Toyota RAV4 are an interesting phenomenon. With the ability to run for short periods of time on electricity alone you can see, on the one hand, how they might appeal as a safe, considered stepping stone in the journey from petrol power to a bonafide EV. On the other, they could just be nothing more than a cynical means of slashing your company car tax obligations - and one that’s a mere legislation change away from losing that prime positioning, too. But whatever your thoughts on the moral worth of these potential Cayman Island cars might be, this latest RAV4 PHEV is a pretty impressive example of the breed. Mechanically speaking, it’s not too dissimilar to the standard RAV4 Hybrid. There’s a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine up front that’s mated to an electric motor, and which together drive the front wheels through an e-CVT. At the rear axle, there’s a second, smaller electric motor that lends the Toyota all-wheel-drive capability. And, unsurprisingly, it’s based on the Japanese firm’s TGA-K architecture. Of course, there are some key differences. The petrol engine now develops 182bhp instead of 176bhp; and the front electric motor’s output has been upped from the 118bhp figure it makes in the regular RAV4 Hybrid, to 180bhp here. The rear motor still produces 54bhp, but combined they lend the RAV4 PHEV a system output of 302bhp - making it the most powerful model in the range by a pretty hefty margin. The lithium-ion drive battery is obviously larger, too. It has a gross capacity of 18.1kWh - pretty beefy by current PHEV standards - and is mounted beneath the floor to lower the car’s centre of gravity. Toyota claims a WLTP-certified range of 46 miles (so it slots into that desirable 6% BiK bracket), while a full charge can be delivered in 2.5 hours from a dedicated wallbox. What's it like? You’ve got a choice of four different powertrain operating modes here, which I guess sounds quite fussy but actually they all work quite well out on the road. Start the car and it defaults to pure EV mode. Provided there’s enough juice in the battery you can travel at speeds of up to 84mph, and even if you hit the kickdown switch to summon a well of acceleration, the ICE motor won’t spark up. Toyota claims a 0-62mph time of 10sec when running on battery power, and performance is brisk enough to keep pace with the traffic. Throttle response is excellent, and forward progress arrives in a smooth, seamless fashion. Next is Auto EV/HV mode, which is effectively the same as regular EV mode, apart from the fact that the petrol engine will pipe up if you really mash the throttle. The transition from one power source to another is really smartly governed, and the petrol engine only makes itself heard if you stand on the throttle for prolonged periods of time. Then there’s HV mode, where the RAV4 runs as a regular hybrid (and a quick one at that); and finally there’s charge mode, which, well, charges the battery up while you’re driving. One aspect of running a plug-in car that can really set your teeth on edge is the draining effect that cold winter weather can have on electric range. The Citroen C5 Aircross PHEV I currently have as a long-termer, for instance, has been struggling to get more than 17 miles from a full charge - which is significantly less than its minimum 33-mile claim. Preconditioning - the process of warming the car up while it’s still plugged in - is key here, and when run as such, the RAV4 PHEV really impresses. Admittedly, I wasn’t able to match its 46-mile claimed range. But on a test route that took in all manner of dual carriageways, fast country A-roads and 20mph village lanes, the Toyota covered 36 miles before its battery gave up the ghost. And that was without me making a conscious effort to maximise efficiency, either. Then, when the car reverted back to running in regular hybrid mode, it still managed to average 49mpg over the remainder of our 90-mile test route. It’s an impressive system, this; performance, efficiency and electric range are all really strong. Provided you have a home charger that you can plug into, I’d wager that trips to the petrol pump will be few and far between. That this powertrain is implemented into a car that also rides comfortably, handles smartly, and steers through a pleasingly thin-rimmed wheel that’s accurate in its responses and really quite nicely weighted is an added bonus. There’s loads of room in the second row, too, and the boot is still a usefully large 520-litre affair despite the packaging tweaks made to accommodate the bigger battery. Should I buy one? The only snag is the price. It starts at £47,395, so it’s a natch more expensive than the excellent plug-in Land Rover Discovery Sport that toppled rivals from BMW and Volvo in an Autocar group test recently. It’s also a few grand pricier than the new Suzuki Across, which is effectively the exact same car only with a different badge on its nose. Standard equipment is nonetheless generous, but it doesn’t have the premium allure of those upper-class competitors - despite feeling exceptionally well-built. Nevertheless, this is an easily recommendable PHEV SUV - provided you’re into such things.

While we love the shirt, the frill-detailing on the denim was a tad bit much, making it look slightly OTT. Not only that, we feel if the shirt was tucked in it would have made for a cleaner and chic look. However, we love the matching footwear and big hoops. For makeup, she kept it simple and stuck to her glowing dewy base, nude lip colour, a generous dose of mascara, and a bit of kohl.

The Blues are preparing to unveil their new manager on Tuesday and hope that he will be able to lead the team against Wolves on Wednesday Thomas Tuchel is travelling to London to complete his appointment as Chelsea's new manager. The former Paris Saint-Germain head coach will replace Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge and hopes to be in position in time to be able to take charge of his new side against Wolves on Wednesday. Tuchel will sign an 18-month contract, with the option for a further year, and is back in management just a month after his exit from PSG. What are the details? Just 24 hours after sacking Lampard as Chelsea's head coach, Blues owner Roman Abramovich is ready to usher in the latest manager to be given the task of leading the London club. Indeed, Tuchel is travelling from Paris to London to finalise the move, and is hoping to be in place for the Blues' Premier League meeting with Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. The 47-year-old will be required to record a negative Covid-19 test to be able to enter Chelsea's bubble, and he will then be allowed to lead training sessions and take charge of matches. The London club will allow Tuchel to bring an initial core group of staff with him to operate in the short-term, with further additions to be reviewed as the season goes on. Initially, the German will sign an 18-month contract but there is the option to extend the deal for a further season, should both parties be happy with the arrangement. The decision to make the change at managerial level comes with Chelsea currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, some way short of pre-season expectations that they would be capable of challenging for the title. Overall, Lampard only earned 1.67 points per game during his 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge, and ultimately that is one of the main reasons why he has been axed. The former England international's assistants Jody Morris and Chris Jones have also been let go, although Joe Edwards and Anthony Barry have remained to take over training in the meantime. Chelsea have also temporarily paused any transfer activity as they await the arrival of Tuchel at the club. What's been said? Announcing the decision to sack Lampard, Abramovich said in a statement: "This was a very difficult decision for the club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him. "He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances, we believe it is best to change managers. "On behalf of everyone at the club, the board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as head coach and wish him every success in the future. "He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge." Lampard himself, meanwhile, has spoken of his disappointment at being dismissed by Chelsea, releasing the following statement: "It has been a huge privilege and an honour to manage Chelsea, a club that has been a huge part of my life for so long. "Firstly, I would like to thank the fans for the incredible support that I have received for the last 18 months. I hope they know what that means to me. "When I took on this role, I understood the challenges that lay ahead in a difficult time for the football club. "I am proud of the achievements that we made, and I am proud of the Academy players that have made their step into the first team and performed well. They are the future of the club. I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level. "I want to thank Mr Abramovich, the board, players, my coaching team and everyone at the club for their hard work and dedication, especially in these unprecedented and challenging times. “I wish the club and the team every success in the future."

Rabat – South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his country’s desperate wishes to see US President Joe Biden change the US position regarding Western Sahara. During a recent speech before the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), President Ramaphosa called on the US to “speedily reverse” its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. The South African president also raised concerns about the “lack of progress in solving the issue of Western Sahara,” expressing his country’s well-documented, Morocco-bashing stance on the Sahara question. This is hardly the first time a high-ranking official from South Africa has lashed out at recent developments in the Sahara conflict to either challenge Morocco’s territorial integrity or try to shore up international support for the separatist Polisario Front. Last week, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, also urged President Joe Boden to reverse former President Donald Trump’s proclamation on Western Sahara. In recent weeks, the Algerian regime has repeatedly attacked Morocco and its efforts to defend its territorial integrity. Most recently, concerns mounted in Algeria and South Africa after Joe Biden announced his administration will uphold Israeli peace accords. Despite increasing signs that the Biden administration will not reverse the Trump-brokered “Abraham Accords,” oberserves and politicians from countries supporting Polisario continue to hope against hope, desperately clinging to their version of the future for Western Sahara. To the overwhelming majority of observers and MENA watchers, the Biden White House will most likely refrain from frustrating Morocco and Israel, two strong and strategic US allies. Meanwhile, to the utter dismay of Polisario and its supporters, the new US administration has already expressed satisfaction with Israel’s peace agreements with Morocco, the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan. According to a recent White House statement, Joe Biden is unwaveringly committed to supporting Israel’s recent peace accords. Biden’s MENA strategy, the statement suggested, will essentially consist in building on the momentum initiated by former US President Donald Trump. The statement also reassured concerned analysts in Morocco and across the world, who have been asking questions about whether the new US administration would repeal or uphold Trump’s achievements in the MENA region. The majority of American politicians and diplomats also believe Biden will work to further US-Morocco relations. David Fischer, the former US ambassador to Morocco, said recently that Biden will not harm recent developments in Western Sahara. Fischer made the remarks in his last speech as the US envoy to Morocco. Speaking to reporters before his departure, he said he is “100 percent sure that the incoming Biden administration will nominate a highly qualified individual to fill this important post, someone who will build on all that we have done together, and that the United States and Morocco will grow and prosper together as we have for over two centuries.”

If you wanted to connect your laptop to a desktop GPU, generally, you have to use a Thunderbolt 3-based graphics dock of some kind. However, a mod from Kosin (a China offshoot of Lenovo) has demonstrated that there is another way. Kosin shared a video where one of its employees managed to run an RTX 3090 off a notebook's NVMe M.2 slot, and it works! (via PC Watch.) Kosin used one of its own laptops, the Ryzen 4600U-powered Air 14, to demonstrate its modification. The modder first removed the M.2 NVMe SSD residing in the notebook, then connected an M.2 to a PCIe adapter cable, allowing the RTX 3090 to communicate with the laptop. Finally, the modder drilled out a slot in the laptop's housing so the cable could run outside of the laptop's chassis. Surprisingly, performance from the RTX 3090 was perfectly adequate, even with just four PCIe lanes being fed to the card. The system scored 14,008 points in 3DMark TimeSpy: For reference, a standard RTX 3080 paired with a Core i9-9900K gets 15,000 points. So, yes, you lose quite a bit of performance compared to installing the 3090 in a desktop PC, but the score is still quite good considering the notebook's specs (and the downgrade to four PCIe lanes).

Taboola will soon trade on the NYSE under the new symbol “TBLA” as the advertising company has announced that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement with the SPAC company ION Acquisition Corp. Founded back in 2007 by CEO Adam Singolda, Taboola allows websites and apps to monetize their content through its AI-driven recommendations that show related stories at the bottom of news articles through its Taboola Feed. The company currently works with over 13,000 publishers to help them reach over 500m users per day. Taboola's merger includes $259m held in trust alongside an additional $285m raised from institutional investors that have agreed to purchase ordinary shares from the company. To help Taboola go public, Fidelity Management & Research Company LLC, Baron Capital Group, accounts managed by BlackRock and other investors have pledged private investment in public equity (PIPE) financing. Going public will also release some of Taboola's funds to help its growth with $100m earmarked for research into AI, e-commerce and device manufacturer programs. What is it? The SQ5 Sportback heads a whole new model line-up from Audi, bringing with it the same mild-hybrid diesel drivetrain and other key mechanical components, including a specially tuned sport suspension, as the recently facelifted SQ5. Conceived to rival the likes of the BMW X4 M40d and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé in a growing market segment for what Audi likes to describe as “performance-related crossover utility vehicles,” the new Mexican-built SUV forgoes the upright rear of the SQ5 for an arguably more stylish arrangement, with a coupé-like look similar to that of the electric E-tron Sportback. Included in the makeover is a more heavily sloping roof and a large liftback-style tailgate – elements that clearly provide the new Audi with a more rakish appearance than the SQ5. They’re not the only distinguishing features, though. Up front, the SQ5 Sportback receives its own unique honeycomb style grille, while the rear receives reshaped OLED tail-lights whose graphic alters in appearance when the driver selects the most sporting of the seven driving modes: Dynamic. While other markets, including the US, are offered the SQ5 Sportback with a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, UK versions receive the turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 diesel already found in the SQ5. It's combined with a 48V electric system that supports an electrically powered compressor (the EPC in Audi speak) that spools up at light throttle loads when the exhaust gas driven boost pressure is insufficient to fully activate the engine’s single turbocharger to reduce lag and strengthen step-off performance. Once the turbocharger is spinning at normal speeds, the EPC shuts down. There’s also a mild-hybrid system included in the 48V system. It uses an alternator starter motor connected to the crankshaft to recuperate up to 12kW of electric energy under braking and on periods of trailing throttle – all of which is stored in a battery under the boot floor. It's then used to power various systems throughout the car, reducing load on the engine for savings in consumption and lower emissions. It also enables a coasting function; the engine is shut down whenever it can in Efficiency mode. Power is put at 336bhp, with torque building to 516lb ft between 1750 and 3250rpm. By comparison, the X4 M40d’s turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine delivers 349bhp and 501lb ft, while the GLC 350d 4Matic Coupé’s turbocharged 3.0-litre six-pot powerplant kicks out 254bhp and 457lb ft. Drive is channeled through a standard eight-speed torque-converter gearbox and Audi’s Torsen quattro four-wheel drive system. Together, they provide a nominal front-to-rear drive split of 40:60, although Audi says up to 70% of drive can be transferred to the front or 85% to the rear, depending on prevailing traction. Additionally, there’s an ABS-based torque-control system across the axles; it brakes a wheel that lacks for grip and/or traction and redirects drive to the one with greater purchase. Like other S models, the SQ5 Sportback also comes with an optional Sport differential that apportions drive to the outside wheel during fast back-road driving to reduce a tendency towards understeer and increase overall agility. What's it like? The SQ5 Sportback may tip the scales at more than two tonnes, but the combined effect of its reserves is really rather satisfying. The induction boosting effect of the EPC is evident when accelerating from standstill, where it helps to added throttle response over the more conventional diesel engines used by lesser Q5 Sportback models. There's still a fleeting moment of lag before the turbocharger really comes on boost. But once it has spooled up, there's prodigious shove, impressive smoothness and quite a free-revving nature to the SQ5 Sportback’s powerplant. It's a quick and, at the same time, relaxed car to drive, capable of devouring big distances with a rewarding combination of big torque flexibility and low-rev refinement. And with a range that puts 600 miles within reach on the standard 70-litre fuel tank, it’s quite economical, given the performance it delivers. The decisiveness and quick action of the gearbox further enhances the responsiveness. It’s terrifically smooth, both at part throttle loads around town and when your right foot asks for more out on the open road, swapping ratios with great authority and speed despite the heady torque loads at play. The engine also sounds the part. There’s a deep rumble that builds into a full-blooded growl near the 4800rpm ignition cut-out, giving the SQ5 Sportback the sort of aural appeal that few, if any, diesels can claim to offer. It’s a combination of exhaust noise and induction blare - the latter synthesized via a sound generator for added effect. The volume and note alters with the driving modes, Dynamic being the choice for those who want the full unfiltered experience. The SQ5 Sportback’s assured dynamic qualities allow you dig deep into its performance, whether on a multi-lane autobahn or threading down a winding back road. It's predicable in its actions, if lacking the sort of engagement that enthusiast drivers might seek. The control of body movement is particularly good, thanks to the adaptive qualities of the dampers and general tuning of suspension, and the Quattro system provides plenty of grip and traction. Sadly, though, the variable-rate steering, while nicely weighted, lacks for vital feedback. On smooth roads in Comfort mode, the SQ5 Sportback delivers quite a relaxed ride, although it can still become unsettled when the surface isn't perfectly free of imperfections. Dynamic mode is quite a lot firmer, leading to more aggressive vertical movement and some odd harshness over larger bumps. Inside, it’s much the same as the SQ5 – at least up front, where the SQ5 Sportback receives the same dashboard, digital instruments, touchscreen infotainment display, multifunction steering wheel and choice of trims. Quality is generally quite high, although there are some cheap-looking black plastic elements out of your direct line of sight. The raised front seating position gives you an agreeably commanding forward view, while the standard sport seats are terrifically comfortable, with firm cushioning and excellent support. Rearward vision is compromised somewhat by the more sloping rear screen, although not to the degree found in some rivals. With the rear bench mounted quite low, most adults should be able sit up back without any concerns over the reduction in head room caused by the more shapely roofline. Boot space, however, is reduced by 10 litres over the SQ5, at a nominal 500 litres. Should I buy one? If it's style and performance in a high-riding SUV that you’re after and the projected £59,000 price tag is within your budget, the SQ5 Sportback should be on your shortlist. It arguably makes more of a visual statement than the regular SQ5 and suffers few compromises on overall everyday versatility, despite its more sporting lines. The torque-laden qualities of its diesel engine and fast-shifting action of its automatic gearbox endow it with both relaxed low-rev cruising and rapid acceleration, making quite an appealing all-rounder - one with outstanding all-season credentials and, given its sheer speed, highly agreeable economy figures. It’s not overflowing with feedback, which might put off those seeking an inherently sporting car. But it still manages to deliver reassuring dynamic qualities and, on smooth German roads at least, a firm but well-controlled ride.

American actor Eva Mendes recently revealed that she has been staying away from social media ever since her younger daughter told her she was spending “too much time on her phone”. Mendes, mother to two daughters — aged six and four — with husband-actor Ryan Gosling, hadn’t posted on Instagram for almost a month. Now, she has explained to fans why she has changed her approach to social media. Sharing a screenshot of a tweet on Instagram, Mendes wrote that children should be allowed to call out their parents as it is a sign of an “empowered” child. The 46-year-old added that the tweet offered an “important reminder”. She wrote, “I could tell she was taking it personally. And she’s a kid, of course, she’d take it personally. They take things personally unless we go out of our way to make it clear to them it’s not personal. So we had good talk, I apologised and I promised her I’d be mindful. I realised that just because I’m always home with them doesn’t mean I’m always present.” Back in 2017, Gosling’s Golden Globes acceptance speech went viral after he thanked his wife for raising their children while he was working on his film La La Land. Gosling said, “While I was singing and dancing and having one of the best experiences I have ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn’t have taken all of that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me.”

The Blues icon has left Stamford Bridge after just 18 months in charge, with the former Borussia Dortmund and PSG coach due to take over Frank Lampard has been sacked from his role as Chelsea manager and will be replaced by former Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel. Lampard had been in charge for just over 18 months, but leaves following five defeats in the last eight games. He will be replaced by Tuchel, with Goal understanding that a verbal agreement as been in place between Chelsea and their incoming manager for a couple of days before the news of Lampard's departure became public. Chelsea confirmed Lampard's exit on Monday morning with owner Roman Abramovich making an unprecedented statement, with Tuchel expected to be appointed in the next 24 hours. Lampard led Chelsea to a 3-1 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup on Sunday, but the club's Premier League form has led to growing concerns. The 42-year-old achieved a top-four finish last season, which was deemed impressive having taken over when the club were under a transfer ban. However, this season Chelsea spent £220 million ($275m) on new signings to try and close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City. It hasn't worked, with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz suffering prolonged periods of poor form under their new manager while Chelsea's performances as a team were increasingly getting worse. Club chairman Bruce Buck watched on with technical and performance advisor Petr Cech as Leicester City ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Lampard's side in their most recent league fixture. The loss to Brendan Rodgers' men was just the latest of a series of defeats against the Premier League's best teams, which recently included reverses against Manchester City and Arsenal. Chelsea have only beaten West Ham of the top 11 clubs this season, while picking up the second-lowest number of points at this stage of a season since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003. Lampard earned 1.67 points per match in the league, which is the lowest of any manager appointed since Abramovich bought Chelsea. The former England midfielder had been open to continuing but the decision was taken out of his hands by those higher up. Former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel is set to be the man to come in to Stamford Bridge, following his sacking by Ligue 1 champions PSG just before Christmas. Tuchel, who has been angling himself for the role, could be the right man to get the most out of both Werner and Havertz, as well as Christian Pulisic who was brought through Dortmund's academy. Meanwhile, Lampard's legendary status remains intact and many Chelsea fans would have been happy to see him continue. A display had been planned for the Shed End part of the stadium, urging Chelsea to stick with their all-time record scorer, with 211 goals, and manager. Lampard previously managed Derby County after retiring from a glorious playing career that saw him win the Champions League and three Premier League titles.

Morocco’s Ministry of Health began today, January 25, the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to vaccination centers across the country. The ministry mobilized 13 refrigerator trucks to transfer the vaccines from the autonomous refrigeration unit in Casablanca to the designated vaccination centers. Footage recorded by 2M shows the trucks leaving the warehouse facility in Casablanca, with several police cars and motorcycles escorting them through the city. The trucks will transport the vaccines under tight security, with police officers escorting them in cities and Royal Gendarmerie officers guarding them on intercity roads. The vaccines will first arrive at the regional health directorates across Morocco, before being distributed to vaccination centers in each region. One health official told 2M that the distribution of vaccines will concern all regions in Morocco in “a fair and equitable way.” The concerned vaccines were manufactured by British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in its Indian production units. Morocco received a first shipment with two million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, named Covishield, on Friday, January 22. The country is also expecting a shipment of vaccines from the Chinese Sinopharm company on Wednesday, January 27. The distribution of the vaccines signals an imminent start of Morocco’s national vaccination campaign against COVID-19. First announced in November, the campaign has been under preparation for more than two months. According to the Ministry of Health, Morocco was only waiting for the delivery of the vaccines to launch the campaign. Last weekend, the ministry launched a web portal, www.liqahcorona.ma, allowing citizens to register for the vaccination campaign. Moroccan citizens and residents can also register by sending the number of their identity card or residence permit to the telephone number 1717. Health authorities will notify the registered people on when and where they can receive the COVID-19 vaccine via an SMS message. Morocco’s national vaccination campaign aims to cover at least 25 million Moroccan citizens and residents, prioritizing frontline workers and people in the high-risk category. The Ministry of Health encouraged Moroccans to participate in the campaign, recalling that vaccine injections are free of charge.
