The war of words between America's top carriers over 5G branding has now devolved into a lawsuit. AT&T started this whole mess then it decided to relabel its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network as 5G Evolution (5G E). Competing carriers cried foul as 5G E is little more than extension of 4G LTE technology and is in no way true 5G. Sprint, the fourth-place wireless carrier, has now filed a lawsuit against AT&T for its blatantly misleading advertising. "AT&T has sought to gain an unfair advantage in the race to 5G by embarking on a nationwide advertising campaign to deceive consumers into believing that its existing 4G LTE Advanced network is now a 5G network," says Sprint in the filing. "But calling its network ‘5GE’ (or ‘5G E’ or ‘5G Evolution’) does not make it a 5G network and instead deceives customers into believing it is something that it is not. The truth is that the network AT&T advertises as ‘5GE’ offers consumers the same service as its 4G LTE Advanced service, which was already available to AT&T customers and has been deployed by all four national carriers." Sprint is right in this instance; all of the "Big Four" wireless carriers have deployed LTE-A networks in select markets, but only AT&T has decided to go one step further by trying to piggyback on the emergence of true 5G networks as a competitive advantage.

It was previously rumored that AMD would launch its next-generation Navi GPU around the middle of the year, perhaps at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. Now a new rumor has emerged, and reportedly AMD is delaying its Navi GPU launch until later in the year, and likely in October. Does the rumor have merit? We can't say, though what we do know is that AMD is coming off a high-end graphics card launch, namely the Radeon VII. It's the first graphics card for gaming to sport a GPU inside that is built on a 7-nanometer manufacturing process, though it's not the first 7nm graphics product—the Radeon Instinct MI60 came before the Radeon VII. Our own hands on testing shows the Radeon VII performing in the neighborhood of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 in rasterized games. As such, it gives AMD a foothold in the high-end GPU market, and justified or not, the company is confident it will be received well by gamers. So in that regard, we can see where AMD might decide to hold Navi back a few months. It's not clear if that is the actual reason, though. The rumor originates from Cowcotland, a French-language website that heard from its unnamed sources that Navi will arrive in October. Beyond that tidbit, there are no other details. We still don't know what to expect out of Navi. Past rumors have been mixed—there have been reports that Navi will be a mid-range GPU, while AMD has made comments that suggest it could be compete at the high-end. "We believe, we will be very competitive overall and that includes the high-end of the GPU market. Obviously there are new products out there from our competition. We will have our set of new products as well and we will be right there in the mix," AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su said at the 22nd Annual Credit Suisse Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference. Dr. Lisa Su made those comments before AMD launched the Radeon VII, so it is possible she was referring to that card, and not Navi. It is also possible that she was speaking generally about AMD's graphics strategy moving forward, which would include Navi. It is anyone's guess at this point. One thing Navi has going for it is that it is built on a 7nm process, just like Vega 20. They are not the same GPU by any means, though. Vega initially launched as a 14nm GPU and is architecturally different than Navi. To what extent, we don't know, and we might have to wait until the fourth quarter to find out.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó has vowed to open humanitarian aid routes into the country in defiance of the government. Mr Guaidó, who has declared himself interim president, called on volunteers to help with distribution and said his plans would be ready next week. Footage shows soldiers blocking a key bridge at the border with Colombia. A government official called aid "a Trojan horse" and said the country had a duty to defend its borders. "According to our constitution, we have the righ t and the duty to defend our borders peacefully," said Freddy Bernal. He accused US president Donald Trump, who has endorsed the opposition leader, of just wanting to exploit Venezuelan oil.
