Tebey is not only a highly successful Ontario-born country musician, he’s a man of many feats. Between producing, songwriting and running the newly founded Jayward Artist Group — a record label launched in partnership with his manager, Jill Snell — Tebey doesn’t struggle to keep himself occupied with projects. Now, the 35-year-old is a four-time CCMA-nominated artist after receiving two nods ahead of this year’s annual Canadian country music celebration. Tebey’s 2018 smash-hit EP, Love a Girl, earned him a nomination for Album of the Year, while the 2019 SOCAN Award-winning single, Who’s Gonna Love You pulled in a nod for the Record Producer of the Year category. Who’s Gonna Love You became a No. 1 hit across Canadian country radio and was co-produced with Emerson Drive‘s Danick Dupelle. The two have collaborated for a number of years together. Songs like Denim on Denim may have earned Tebey his name in the Canadian music industry after being certified gold across the nation, but the ambitious musician has been songwriting for a long time prior to his solo career. As of this writing, Tebey has co-written seven No. 1 singles, as well as hits for artists like One Direction, Flo Rida, Pixie Lott and Fifth Harmony. Ahead of his performance at the 2019 CCMA Awards, Tebey took the time to sit down with Global News and talk about all things relating to the highly anticipated music celebration, his history of writing and what’s in store for the future of his career. Congratulations on the nominations, Tebey. You must be looking forward to the CCMAs this year. Two nominations and a performance, that’s right. Album of the Year, Record Producer of the Year, and we’re getting to play on the show, which is really cool. I can’t wait, man. (some Toby's interview down below) I can’t tell you what song, unfortunately, [laughs] but it’s going to be something special because we’re gonna be trying something a little bit different. I just didn’t want to do the same kind of thing we usually do. We’re gonna have some fun with it. It’s been a year since Love a Girl, which was a huge success for you. What do you see when you reflect on the hard work that went into that EP now? The most rewarding thing is the fact that we’ve been able to have a bunch of these songs on the radio. We started it all off with Denim on Denim, which was easily my biggest single to date, and then Who’s Gonna Love You was the next single that went No. 1 on the radio charts, and it’s going to be certified gold any day now. It’s been such a great 18 months. Even just making the record was fun. I worked with my longtime producer Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive) again, and we had a blast making music together as always. It’s always really cool to get that nod of the cap from your fellow industry peers and be nominated for album of the year. You’re also known well for your impressive resumé of songwriting outside of your solo career. Does the process change between writing for yourself and other artists, or do you pick and choose what you like for yourself? No. Typically I don’t write for myself, to be honest. I just aim to write great songs. I think that when you pigeonhole yourself a bit and try to write something for a specific artist or try to find a specific sound, I think you’re typically behind the ball. I just try to be adventurous and take chances when I’m writing. I don’t like to do too much planning. Like I said, I just want to write a great song and find it its right home. When I was working with One Direction, that was incredible, but I didn’t write the songs for them, Good Jeans is your big hit right now, and we understand you have another single coming soon. Is that right? I do, yeah! We just announced it. I was actually down in Connecticut shooting a music video with Marie-Mai [Bouchard]. She is a massive pop star in Quebec and France and she’s a huge fan of country music. We have a bunch of mutual friends so I asked her if she wanted to sing on this song and she agreed. It’s gonna be a big one, man. It’s called The Good Ones and it’s coming out towards the end of September. It’s been five years since your last album, Two. With these two new singles, are you hinting towards a third album? I’ll say there’s a really good chance that a new six-song EP will come out in early 2020. [Laughs] It’s coming up, and we’re definitely working hard on it. We’ve still got a couple of songs to record, but we have

Hong Kong protests: Mall barricaded after petrol bombs, tear gas, and bricks thrown Hong Kong police said on Monday they arrested 36 people, the youngest aged 12, after violence during anti-government demonstrations escalated as protesters hurled Molotov cocktails at security forces who responded with water cannon and tear gas. Hong Kong police draw guns, fire tear gas and water cannons in latest protest violence Sunday’s protests saw some of the fiercest clashes yet between police and demonstrators since violence escalated in mid-June over a now-suspended extradition bill that would have allowed Hong Kong people to be sent to mainland China for trial. Police fired water cannon and volleys of tear gas in running battles with brick-throwing protesters on Sunday, the second day of violent clashes in the Chinese-ruled city. Six officers drew their pistols and one officer fired a warning shot into the air, police said in a statement. Hong Kong police fire water cannons, tear gas as protesters take over streets “The escalating illegal and violent acts of radical protesters are not only outrageous, they also push Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation,” the government said in a statement. More demonstrations are planned in the days and weeks ahead, including a rally at Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways headquarters on Wednesday to protest against perceived “white terror,” a common expression to describe anonymous acts that create a climate of fear. Cathay Pacific CEO resigns as Hong Kong tensions lead to Beijing pressure Cathay has emerged as the biggest corporate casualty of the protests after China demanded it suspend staff involved in, or who support, the anti-government demonstrations that have plunged the former British colony into a political crisis. Protesters once again adopted cat-and-mouse tactics late in the evening, moving swiftly to locations across the former British colony, where they set up barricades to block some roads, following a largely peaceful rally earlier in the day. United response critical in confronting China on Hong Kong, detainees: U.K. commissioner Police said they arrested 29 men and seven women, aged 12 to 48, for offenses including unlawful assembly, possession of offensive weapons and assaulting police officers. The clashes on Saturday and Sunday marked a return to unrest after days of calmer demonstrations. The protests, which escalated in June over a now-suspended extradition bill, have rocked Hong Kong for three months, occasionally causing serious disruption including forcing the closure of the airport. Hong Kong police seen dragging protester and beating him with batons The city, a major Asian financial center, is facing its biggest political crisis since the handover of power from British rule in 1997. Protesters say they are fighting the erosion of the “one country, two systems” arrangement under which Hong Kong returned to China with the promise of continued freedoms, not enjoyed on the mainland, for 50 years.

As this exclusive spy shot shows there’s a brand new KTM 1290 Super Duke R on the way with updates that should make the brutal Austrian super naked easier to live with day-to-day but also even more of an animal when you really prod it! The old model was no slouch, but being largely unchanged since 2013 and with a Ducati V4 Streetfighter on the way as well as an updated Aprilia Tuono, it was time to up its game. To do it, KTM have clearly given the bike a complete overhaul, starting with the chassis. The main frame is still steel tube but simplified with fewer tubes of a larger diameter. Meanwhile, the rear subframe is now a pair of aluminium spars while the forks and wheels have been updated as well. The external signs are also there that the 1290cc V-twin engine has undergone a serious overhaul. The water pump is new, as is the exhaust routing and style. The silencer is much smaller than that of the existing bike and all in aluminium, which is impressive given the further tightening of emissions regulations that are on the horizon. Chances are that KTM have kept the displacement the same but have worked on the heads and cams to improve combustion efficiency. Another certain big change is to the Super Duke’s dash and switchgear with the new bike guaranteed to get the large, full-colour TFT screen that debuted this year on its sister Super Duke GT. To coordinate with this, the new Super Duke’s switchgear is expected to be completely new with the left-hand unit now featuring a five-way joystick-like set of controls. Finally there’s also clearly new bodywork and LED lights. Although KTM have yet to officially confirm the new bike we expect it to be unveiled at EICMA in November before going on sale next year. KTM 1290 Super Duke R highlights The new wheels appear to be much lighter than those of the old model, which should make the new bike easier to turn. Old 172bhp motor was no slouch but KTM will likely want to bump it up against the rivals, so we expect around 175bhp. Larger diameter tubes can use thinner walls, so it’s likely KTM have saved a few kilos with the 2020 Super Duke’s new frame. New TFT dash combines with new switchgear to host a set of +/- controls which should it easier to use while riding. We’d expect price to remain near current levels, perhaps creeping up to £14,999 although some of the tech might be optional. Detroit-based General Motors Co emerged from two days of Democratic debates in its hometown largely unscathed as 2020 White House hopefuls largely passed up an opportunity to criticize it for significant job cuts in recent months. The largest U.S. automaker has come under fierce criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike for months after its November announcement that it would end production at five North American assembly plants and eliminate about 14,700 jobs. DIt had been bracing for searing attacks when Democrats descended on Detroit for the second round of debates on Tuesday and Wednesday. GM even sent out fact sheets to reporters touting the company’s U.S. employment and its $23 billion in investments in U.S. facilities since 2009. And on Tuesday, Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez held a news conference outside GM’s Warren transmission plant just north of Detroit that is ending operations on Thursday “to highlight Trump’s broken promises.” Democratic candidates clash over immigration, health care during debate In October 2016, Trump came to Warren and said: “If I’m elected, you won’t lose one plant. …You’re going to have jobs again.” But the automaker was hardly mentioned and largely avoided most direct criticism. Not one candidate mentioned GM by name on the first night, even as a moderator specifically asked South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg about GM’s job cuts and what his plan was for retraining workers. He answered that beyond job training, workers in gig economy jobs should be allowed to “unionize, because a gig is a job and a worker is a worker.” Julian Castro, a former San Antonio mayor and top U.S. housing official, on Wednesday noted GM’s job cuts as an example of the economic uncertainty facing the country, but stopped short of leveling more direct criticism at the automaker. “Go and just ask the folks that just received notice that they are going to get laid off by General Motors, or ask the many folks who are sleeping on the streets in big cities and small towns across the United States, or ask fast-food workers that I joined a couple of weeks ago that are working for minimum wage and can’t provide for their families or pay the rent,” Castro said. And when former Vice President Joe Biden brought up GM, it was not about the job reductions but to remind the voters in Michigan of the 2009 GM bailout under the administration of then-President Barack Obama, to whom he served as No. 2 for eight years. “I was part of the organization — and within our administration — that pushed bailing General Motors out, saving tens of thousands of jobs here in this state,” Biden said on Wednesday, the second night of back-to-back debates. At times the candidates referenced job losses in the auto sector or manufacturing jobs that have disappeared because of automation but mostly skipped direct references to GM, whose headquarters is a few blocks from where the debates were held. “If you go to a factory here in Michigan, you will not find wall-to-wall immigrants; you will find wall-to-wall robots and machines,” said entrepreneur and philanthropist Andrew Yang. According to government data, U.S. and foreign auto manufacturers have added about 25,000 U.S. jobs since the start of 2017. For its part, GM said in the fact sheet distributed to reporters that it is adding more than 2,000 additional jobs at other U.S. plants and offered jobs at other factories to nearly all the hourly workers at plants ending production — though it did not extend those offers to thousands of salaried workers who lost their jobs. GM did not comment after the debate.

The Super Soco TC Max electric motorbike makes a convincing case that a lighter, simpler, short-range commuter is a better use of today’s battery tech than a bid roadster, especially for just £4k. As a commuter there’s a lot to be said for its near-zero running costs and the convenience of refuelling while you sleep. Does it spell the end of petrol? Not yet. A Honda CBR125R is cheaper, twice as powerful, has four times the range and refuels in minutes. Still, for just £4000 the TC Max comes closer to replacing a 125 than an electric superbike comes to replacing a Fireblade. Ride Quality & Brakes 3 out of 5 A single charge of the battery lasts for around 60 miles of steady town riding, or 30 at full throttle. The remaining range is displayed both as a percentage and in bar chart form on the LCD dash, which is handy. The bike works okay around town, although a slight surge from the motor when holding the throttle steady suggests a lack of development. On open roads its meagre power and very modest top speed means you can find yourself being hassled by lorries. Better to stick to quieter, bendier backroads than trunk routes. Engine 2 out of 5 The TC Max is the fastest, sportiest and most powerful bike in Super Soco’s range, though that’s not saying much. It’s powered by a 6.7bhp electric motor, half the power of a learner 125, driving the back wheel through a toothed belt. The motor only needs to propel 100kg, which is less than the weight of a Honda MSX125. Even so, there are three power modes: ‘1’ limits top speed to 30mph, ‘2’ restricts it to 40ph and ‘3’ releases the full package. That full package relates to a claimed top speed of 58mph, although our datalogger recorded a less-than-impressive 49mph. Build Quality & Reliability 2 out of 5 In short: who knows? Super Soco is such a new brand that both reliability and battery durability remain unproven – more time and miles are needed. The overall sense of component quality (tyres, suspension, pegs and grips) is best described as in-keeping with its budget price, although nothing went wrong during our fairly brief test ride. The TC Max comes with a two-year warranty, extended to three years for the battery. A service is needed every 2000 miles. Insurance, running costs & value 4 out of 5 With BMW’s C-evolution costing £10k, Harley-Davidson’s new Livewire a hefty £28,750 and Zero’s SR\F almost £20k, the £4045 Super Soco TC Max represents incredible value for an electric motorcycle. Ok, so it lacks the power of the aforementioned, but still offers a very affordable way to get around town or to work and back. That value for money makes this electric machine a very viable alternative to its petrol-powered rivals; Yamaha’s YZF-R125 costs £4574, for example. A full charge costs around 50p, meaning the TC Max’s ‘fuel’ bill is minimal – just a penny per mile. And the belt final drive means no lube or cleaning is required. Insurance group: 9 of 17 – compare motorcycle insurance quotes now. Equipment 3 out of 5 There are neat touches like keyless ignition, linked brakes (no ABS), and an alarm which locks the rear wheel when activated. The TC Max also comes with spoked wheels for an extra £100. You can charge the bike by plugging the external charger into the side of the bike, or you can remove the 3.24kWh lithium-ion battery and take it into your house or office to charge it up. But it weighs a whopping 21.6kg, so a few sessions at the gym might be needed before tackling this task.

The top Democrat on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee said Sunday he believes there is “substantial evidence” that President Donald Trump committed high crimes and misdemeanors, and he plans to ask former Special Counsel Robert Mueller to present those facts at a congressional hearing on Wednesday. “The report presents very substantial evidence that the president is guilty of high crime and misdemeanors, and we have to let Mueller present those facts to the American people and then see where we go from there,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said on “Fox News Sunday.” Maverick Democrat’s attempt to impeach Trump fails vote Pelosi says not at place to impeach yet, concerned for ‘well-being’ of Trump “The administration must be held accountable, and no president can be above the law.” Nadler’s comments are significant because evidence of such crimes would be required if Democrats pursue impeachment proceedings against the president. In two nationally televised back-to-back hearings on Wednesday before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees, Democrats are expected to try and get Mueller to focus his testimony on specific examples of Trump’s misconduct. By having Mueller lay bare the unflattering details of how Trump tried to stymie the investigation into his campaign, Democrats hope they can build support for their ongoing investigations into the president and potentially, impeachment proceedings. Some Democrats in Congress support impeaching Trump, but they have not managed to win traction from House Democratic leadership including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has preferred a more cautious approach that entails conducting congressional fact-finding investigations into Trump’s conduct. Last week, the House voted 332-95 to table an impeachment resolution. READ MORE: Democrats plan to focus on obstruction while questioning Robert Mueller Mueller completed his nearly two-year long probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election in March, and the Justice Department released a redacted copy of his report in April. The report laid out numerous contacts between Russian officials and Trump’s campaign, but found no evidence of a criminal conspiracy. It also gave examples of 10 incidents in which Trump sought to hinder the investigation, but it did not draw any conclusions on whether Trump obstructed justice. Attorney General William Barr later concluded he did not see enough evidence to bring obstruction charges. Whether Democrats will get Mueller to discuss Trump’s conduct in detail remains to be seen. Mueller has made it clear he has no desire to appear before Congress, saying the report is his testimony, and he is also notorious for being tight-lipped and for giving one-word answers in hearings. Pelosi says House will ‘deal with’ impeachment resolution Nadler said Democrats plan to ask very specific questions about Trump’s obstructive conduct and ask Mueller to read passages from the report aloud. ‘It will not be easy’: Democrats prepare for Robert Mueller’s public testimony “We hope it won’t end up being a dud,” he said of the hearing. Meanwhile, Nadler said Sunday he plans to go to court “within a couple of days” after the Mueller hearings to enforce a subpoena, after the White House ordered former White House Counsel Don McGahn not to testify about incidents he witnessed which many say show Trump tried to obstruct justice.

House Democrats approved legislation Thursday to raise the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade, to $15 an hour, transforming an issue that once splintered the party into a benchmark for the 2020 election. Even though the bill has little chance of passing the Republican-led Senate, or being signed into law by U.S. President Donald Trump, the outcome pushes the phased-in rate to the forefront as the new standard, one already in place at some leading U.S. corporations. While the increase would boost pay for some 30 million low-wage workers, intended as one answer to income inequality, passage was assured only after centrist Democrats won adjustments to the bill. Reluctant to embrace the party’s left flank, they pushed for changes, including a slower six-year phase-in of the wage. It’s a reminder of moderates’ influence on policy, but also the limits. “We’re testing candidates from the presidential all the way down to the school board,” said Mary Kay Henry, the president of the Service Employees International Union whose members cheered passage from the House gallery. To address stark income inequality, she said, “they have to raise wages.” Lower youth minimum wage takes effect in Alberta A hike in the $7.25 hourly wage has been a top Democratic campaign promise, and what Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland called Thursday the “right thing to do.” “America’s workers deserve a raise,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a press conference with labor leaders and employees ahead of voting. Lifting a young girl into her arms, Pelosi said, “This is what it’s all about… It’s about family.” The last increase in the federal minimum occurred 10 years ago, the longest stretch without an adjustment since the wage floor was first enacted during the 1930s. The wage protection covers millions of low-wage workers in all types of jobs. Under the House bill, for the first time, tipped workers would be required to be paid the same as others earning the minimum, boosting their pay to $15 an hour, too. It’s now $2.13, in what labour scholars call a jarring remnant from the legacy of slavery, when newly freed workers received only tips. Republicans in the House balked at the wage hike, which would be the first since Democrats last controlled the majority. Just three Republicans joined most Democrats in its passage, on a 231-199 vote.

Yamaha have revealed their next generation R1 and R1M that boasts more efficient aerodynamics, an improved electronics package and reworked engine internals for greater performance. The drop-dead gorgeous machines were unveiled at the weekend’s American WSB round in Laguna Seca. The R1 gets a more MotoGP-inspired styling makeover with new screen and fairing that integrates straight into the tank, promising a 5.3% increase in aerodynamic efficiency and greater comfort for a broader range of riders. Alongside improved aero, there is also greater fairing rigidity, thanks to an aluminium air duct behind the front section, as well as titanium lower panelling covering the exhaust. This is coupled with new LED headlights which help give the bike a more aggressive stance. Both the R1 and R1M will also feature an aluminium fuel tank and aluminium wheels, too. Meanwhile, the now Euro5-compliant 998cc crossplane crank engine has been reworked to include a new intake system, complete with new 10-hole Bosch fuel injectors for a wider spray angle giving a more efficient burn. Although power remains unchanged at a claimed 197bhp, the bike receives updated finger-follower rocker arms and new cam lobes, that deliver more stable valve operation at high rpm. Extracting this top-end rush is made easier by a lighter ride-by-wire throttle, which is said to give a more natural feel. To help pass emissions regulations, the reworked exhaust system now also features four catalysers, with one pair in front of the exhaust chamber and the other set at the rear. Both the silencer itself and the bike's engine heat protectors also feature noise reduction measures. Keeping all of that performance under control is an updated 43mm Kayaba fork with a new damping set up, alongside a revised steering damper and reworked rear shock settings. Helping improve feel further are new Bridgestone Battlax RS11 tyres and a whopping seven electronic control systems, including a new Brake Control (cornering ABS), which works in tandem with the bike's six-axis IMU. Featuring two modes (one fixed and one self-adjusting), it assesses data like lean angle and hydraulic brake pressure, to prevent lock-ups. Additional braking power is delivered by new high-friction front pads. Available in blue or black, the bike also gets a new three-mode Engine Braking Management unit, that allows riders to adjust the severity of engine braking (high, medium or low). Designed for greater deceleration performance, the system uses data including gear position, engine rpm, throttle position and throttle valve position, before the bike's ECU alters throttle opening, ignition timing and fuel injection to suit. The latest R1 also gets an updated launch control system, which has now been modified to activate at 9000rpm, at a throttle opening of 41 degrees, producing faster race starts. What's more, all of these system indicators will be visible through an improved TFT dash.

Girls row a makeshift raft past submerged houses at a flood-affected village in Karbi Anglong district, in the northeastern state of Assam, India, July 11, 2019. A three-story building collapsed after monsoon rains in a hilly area of northern India on Sunday, killing at least seven people, officials said Monday. Rescuers were looking for half a dozen people, including some soldiers, still unaccounted for early Monday. Several soldiers were among the 31 people rescued since the collapse occurred in the town of Solan, 310 kilometres (195 miles) north of New Delhi. Police officer Vinod said the dead were six army soldiers and one civilian. He uses one name. Most of the people affected were sitting in a ground floor restaurant in the building when it collapsed because of a weakened foundation, Jai Ram Thakur, the state’s top elected leader. Walls collapse killing at least 27 in India after monsoon rains More than 30 rescuers from the National Disaster Response Force used drillers and gas cutters to clear the rubble overnight, said Krishan Kumar, a NDRF spokesman. Building collapses are common in India during the June-September monsoon season, when heavy rains weaken the foundations of structures that are poorly constructed.
