Barcelona's MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2015 kicks off on Monday, but many of the press events are being held this weekend. We tell you what smartphones, tablets and more to expect from all the biggest exhibitors, including Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG, Huawei, Microsoft, Google and Motorola, and round up the top news stories and live video streams from MWC 2015. Also see: Best new phones you should be most excited about in 2015. Scheduled for 2-5 March, MWC 2015 is only a matter of days away. For all you fans of mobile tech products it's the highlight of the calendar with CES only bringing a handful of devices this year – namely the LG G Flex 2. We'll be heading to mainland Europe to bring you full coverage of the show but until then let's take a look at what to expect from the big names which will be exhibiting in Barcelona including smartphones, tablets and wearables. What to expect from MWC 2015: SamsungWith zero announcements on the mobile side from Samsung at CES, MWC will be an important time for the Korean company. We will certainly get an overview of the firm's plans for 2015 – at least for the first half. Samsung will almost certainly hold an Unpacked event very close to the show where it will announce the Galaxy S6. All eyes will be on the flagship device but Samsung is unlikely to stop there with a Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 mini, budget handsets and others all possible. On the wearable front, Samsung will supposedly challenge Motorola, LG and others with a round smartwatch codenamed the 'Orbis' which will come with wireless charging, according to SamMobile. Note: If you're a fan of the Galaxy Note range, Samsung traditionally launches new models later on in the year in September at IFA. That's when to expect the Galaxy Note 5 unless Samsung makes a dramatic change to its roadmap. What to expect from MWC 2015: HTCThere are two products which we have a good idea HTC will launch at MWC and it has already sent out a save the date for Sunday 1 March which says 'Join us to see what's next' and the tag line 'Utopia in progress' (see below). The event starts at 4pm CET and we fully expect HTC to announce its new flagship smartphone in the form of the HTC One M9 'Hima'. A mini version is always a good possibility but may be announced shortly after MWC. HTC is also likely to, at long last, announce its entry to the wearable market – currently dubbed the HTC Petra – and will be announced in partnership with Under Armour. What to expect from MWC 2015: SonyLike Samsung, Sony stuck to other areas at CES despite rumours of the Xperia Z4 being unveiled. This seemed unlikely given the firm's six month cycle on flagship handsets. With the Xperia Z3 range arriving at IFA in September last year, MWC 2015 is spot on for the announcement of a Z4 range which will almost certainly include the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z4 Compact. It is also more than likely about to unveil a new Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. It has already announced the new budget Xperia E4. Sony is probable to introduce new wearable products to its SmartWear range following the launch of the SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk last year. What to expect from MWC 2015: LGLG is the other manufacturer in the big four for MWC and although it did announce the LG G Flex 2 at CES, we're expecting a lot more in Barcelona. Last year, LG announced the G3 at a London based event in May so it's no certainty that the G4 will arrive in March at MWC. In fact, an LG exec said it won't happen according to The Chosun: "We rolled out the G3 in May last year so we do not plan to unveil the G4 at this year's Mobile World Congress and spend more time perfecting the new phone." Despite that quote, there's still a chance and the firm will probably announce other smartphones and tablets such as new L-series devices and hopefully a replacement for the LG G Pad 8.3. Read all the LG G4 rumours here. On the wearable side of things, we wouldn't be surprised to see something new to follow on from the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R - perhaps something more on the fitness tracker side of things. Ahead of MWC, LG has shown off the luxury G Watch Urbane and four new smartphones called the LG Magna, LG Spirit, LG Leon and LG Joy. What to expect from MWC 2015: HuaweiThe Chinese vendor will be present in Barcelona this year and has a press conference scheduled for Sunday 1 March at 3pm. The save the date we've been sent gives no clues as to what will be announced but has confirmed to TechRadar that it will launch an Android Wear smartwatch this year. MWC seems like most likely place to unveil it and the event invitation appears to confirm it. The invitation suggests you'll be able to take a phone call on the device which also seems to have a camera built into the strap. Although it seemed the launch of the Ascend P8 would take place at MWC this year. Huawei has confirmed to multiple tech media sites that the smartphone will actually be launched in London on 15 April. The Ascend P7 was launched in Paris and the Ascend P6 was launched in London. Huawei has also confirmed it will launch at least one new tablet. What to expect from MWC 2015: MicrosoftMicrosoft doesn’t normally have a big presence at shows like MWC but will be in Barcelona this year. A press conference will take place at 8:30am on 2 March. “Mobile is transforming communication, advancing the next payment system that alters commerce, and expanding ways in which we interact. Similarly, the world’s premier industry continues to expand. Once again taking place at Fira Gran Via – the world-class venue in the heart of the Mobile World Capital. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to witness the industry’s continued expansion and growth,” said the firm. Although that doesn’t give much away we expect to hear more about Windows 10 on smartphones and tablets. We could certainly see some new devices unveiled but a new flagship Lumia (the Lumia 940?) is less likely and will probably be announced later in the year closer to the full launch of Windows 10. If you can’t wait to get Windows 10 on your phone you can download the Technical Preview now if you have a selected Lumia handset and don’t mind running buggy software. What to expect from MWC 2015: GoogleGoogle normally announces Nexus smartphones and tablets at its own launch events such as Google I/O. However, the rumour mill suggests Google will present is modular smartphone called Project Ara at MWC this year. A total of 50 components will supposedly be on display as well as a complete working handset. What to expect from MWC 2015: MotorolaNow owned by Lenovo, we're not expecting a huge amount from Motorola at MWC. It's just launched various smartphones in China. A new version of the budget Moto E is thought to be announced in Barcelona, though. It's probably going to be called the Moto E 4G and has already shown up on BestBuy in the US. A 2015 version of the Moto G 2014 also with added 4G LTE support is a possibility and don't rule out a new model of the Moto 360 smartwatch although Motorola just announced three new bands for it.

Microsoft recently revealed USB 3.1 Type-C compatibility for Windows 10 in the form of a panel description for the upcoming winHec hardware development conference in China this coming March. "Windows 10 introduces support for USB Dual Role and Type-C, which will enable new wired connectivity scenarios such [as] a phone interacting with USB peripherals, or laptops connecting to an external display using the USB Type-C connector," said the description. "This session will go into detail on how Windows supports these technologies and what you need to do to enable them." The biggest thing you would need, but would be hard pressed to find, is the Type-C connector itself. Last year, we took a first look at the USB 3.1 Type-C connector, where we weren't too subtle in our warning that the newer, smaller plug would have some growing pains coming to market and appearing in mainstream devices and hardware. Even with Asus's recent refresh of its motherboard line, joining the ranks of other companies like ASRock and MSI with USB 3.1 connectivity, the availability of the Type-C connector is limited to just a few models, mostly with an add-in PCI card. Although the lack of a Type-C connector on a desktop may not deter us from enjoying the benefits of USB 3.1 speeds and power delivery, the real demand for Type-C is in the mobile market, which has even fewer offerings, with only the Nokia N1 tablet and a yet-to-be released MSI laptop currently sporting the Type-C connector. Why are devices with USB 3.1 Type-C connectors so scarce? The benefits of the smaller, easier to plug in, faster connection are undeniable. Who wouldn't want to plug their phone into an external display? News of software compatibility is refreshing, but the lack of any new devices on the market with the USB 3.1 Type-C connector is kind of a let-down. Hopefully, this will change next week with some product reveals at MWC. Until then, consumers will just have to be patient for Type-C to gain more market saturation.
