[M]anuel Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Italy made its debut this Tuesday on the Olympic curling podium through the front door, with gold in mixed doubles that guarantees the superiority of the couple made up of debutant Stefania Constantini, decisive from start to finish of the tournament, and Amos Mosaner, already with experience in 2018. The Italians defeated Norwegians Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten 8-5 in the final. Constantini's aplomb in the last stone, with which he only needed to take out one of his rivals to secure the gold, was once again decisive. Italy was the only undefeated team in qualifying and went through the knockout rounds with the same pre-eminence. In the final, after a 2-2 draw at the end of the second round, two separate 1-0 and 3-0 in the next two seemed to sentence the game. Despite reaching the seventh inning trailing 7-3, the Nordics did not give up. They called a timeout with two stones to go and were successful to close 7-5. In the eighth and last inning, Norway had options to tie and force the extra set, but it depended on Constantini's final error, which never came. The 22-year-old 'curler' from Cortina d'Ampezzo -site of the next Games together with Milan-, concluded as the true star of the tournament that came to an end today. She is the only representative of women's curling from her country at the Beijing Games, since the women's team, unlike the men's, did not qualify. Previously, Sweden had won the bronze medal from Great Britain, 9-3. https://www.el-carabobeno.com/italia-completa-torneo-perfecto-y-gana-de-la-mano-de-constantini/ 1
