Apple systems have never been cheap, but the new MacBook Air still seems to be an important step in the right direction.

 

About a year and a half ago, Apple launched a new generation of MacBook Air, with two USB C ports, significantly thinner than in 2015. Most users greatly appreciated the retina display panel. In addition to the problematic keyboard, however, it was not necessarily a huge success due to the price very close to the cheapest 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple has remedied these shortcomings with the new generation of ultraportables.

Without any major event or global conference, Apple has updated its MacBook Air systems with a new generation of processors, a new trouble-free keyboard and a few other tricks. But the part that users appreciate is about the price. The new Air is $ 200 cheaper than the old Air at the end of 2018. It costs only $ 999 in the US. With that money, many years ago, you could have bought a 13-inch MacBook. In the meantime, however, you could no longer associate this amount with an Apple laptop.

To make the package even more attractive, for $ 200 less, you enjoy 256GB of space, compared to 128GB of the old entry-level system. Next up is 8GB of RAM, while the processor is a dual core Intel i3. But because we are talking about a tenth generation CPU from the Ice Lake family, its presence is reflected in an important leap in performance compared to the old generation of Ai.

But if you went to change your Mac keyboard under warranty, like me, twice, you will be most excited about the new MacBook Air keyboard. This is the same one introduced by Apple on the 16-inch MacBook Pro launched last fall. Compared to a 13-inch MacBook Pro, the only "compromise" you make is the lack of a touchbar, but you still benefit from biometric authentication via TouchID.
