[M]anuel Posted October 15, 2021 Posted October 15, 2021 A complex situation continues to be experienced on the Spanish island of La Palma due to the activity of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, which has already erupted for 26 days. This time, the island's authorities announced that several dogs were trapped in the area and their rescue is difficult because they are surrounded by lava. The Island's Department of Security and Emergencies announced that the animals are trapped in empty ponds, located in the upper area of Todoque. According to Nieves Rosa Arroyo, Minister of Security and Emergency, the trapped canines were detected five days ago. In the images released by the Cabildo de La Palma it can be seen that the dogs are lying on a large black layer of ash left by the eruption of the volcano. In addition, it is observed that they are not in the best of health, as many of them look malnourished and weak after several days trapped. The first safety studies indicated that, at the moment, there is no way to rescue the animals by land or air, due to the high temperatures that are reached in the place. According to information released by Leales.org, an environmental organization in Spain, there are at least four dogs that appear to be of the hound breed. It is not ruled out that there are more unidentified animals. Three of the dogs are trapped in two ponds very close to the lava area. "The Leales.org platform denounces that the podenco breed is the most abused in the Canary Islands and this case is a small sample of this, where those who use them for their amusements in the field abandon them at the first change," the organization denounced . link https://www.eltiempo.com/mundo/europa/perros-estan-atrapados-tras-erupcion-del-volcan-cumbre-vieja-625232
