Do you like ads in your Gmail account? No? Well, too bad because it looks like we’re going to get even more. Screenshots from across the internet show users getting way more ads than usual on Gmail for desktop and mobile. Advertisements are nothing new to Gmail, but they’re normally tucked away at the top of the Promotions and Social tabs where they can be easily ignored. The new placement, however, changes all that, integrating ads in between actual emails. As a result, it’s much harder to tell the difference between the two at a glance even if they have an Ad icon signifying them as such. Intrusive ads Looking at screenshots on Twitter(opens in new tab), there doesn't appear to be any specific targeting behind the ads. It appears to be all at random. One user showed he had ads from Edible Arrangements and a job listing from the U.S. Border Patrol(opens in new tab). Another had a combination of Amazon and KFC(opens in new tab). The intrusiveness is also pretty egregious on smartphones as some have gotten images alongside the ads(opens in new tab) taking up even more space. It is worth pointing out that this Zerg Rush of advertisements isn’t affecting every single user. Personally, we didn’t see any changes on Gmail for desktop. Everything was business as usual. We did, however, see more ads than usual in the Promotions on the mobile version, although there were no extra images. Benefit of the doubt Now, to be fair to Google, it’s possible none of this is being done on purpose. In a response to an upset user, the official Gmail account on Twitter(opens in new tab) said the sudden influx of ads doesn’t “sound good” and asked them to send feedback via the Gmail Help tool. There also have been instances this year where bad actors would hijack the Google Ads network to push adult content to “unsuspecting victims”. In one instance, hackers were so bold to push malware onto people. On the other hand, it’s not like Google is innocent either. 80 percent of the company’s revenue comes from digital ads, according to The Guardian(opens in new tab). So the tech giant has more than enough reason to create new ways for businesses to advertise. In a recent report, The Financial Times “claims to have seen an internal presentation” where the tech giant aims to use generative AI to create original advertisements drawing “from those already created by human hands.” We would love to give Google the benefit of the doubt that this is another hijacking or some internal accident and not the start of another advertising program. At the time of this writing, the only official word we’ve heard so far is the tweet from earlier. The GCC Compiler has received new patches for the upcoming Intel Lunar Lake & Arrow Lake lineup. We have seen a similar strategy from Intel since it provides preliminary support for future architectures way earlier than AMD. Intel Tends to Provide Support Way Earlier Than Official Launch, Unlike AMD Phoronix reports that Intel has added instructions support through a new patch for Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake, and Arrow Lake S. The new patches are expected to be compatible with the upcoming GCC 14 compiler release. To clarify this update, The GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) is a suite of compilers and tools developed to generate machine code. When a new processor is released, it may introduce new features, instructions, or architectural changes. To take advantage of these new capabilities, the GCC developers may need to update the compiler to support them. Typically, this entails implementing the new instruction set extensions, streamlining code generation for the new processor, and modifying the internal compiler structures. One important detail highlighted by Phoronix reveals that the new patch suggests that only the Arrow Lake S will support AVX-VNNI-INT16, SHA512, SM3, and SM4 instructions, while the other models in Arrow Lake won't do so. In comparison, this information isn't confirmed yet, since the development is in its initial stages. However, these instructions are helpful in AI and machine learning applications; hence if excluded, it wouldn't have much effect on an average consumer. A previous Intel "Architecture Instruction Set Extensions and Future Features" document also revealed similar instructions to be added in the upcoming Arrow Lake-S lineup. Final Fantasy XVI is getting a day-one patch, after all. You might remember that Square Enix originally didn't want to release one, expressing confidence in its final build of the game, although they did say it wasn't a final decision. Well, during yesterday's Final Fantasy XVI launch live stream, the developers revealed there will be one, mainly to address performance. Here's the full overview of the fixes:Fix a control flag issue which can make progress impossible under very specific circumstances Fix an issue wherein the game could close unexpectedly under very specific circumstances Optimize performance in several places Fix some minor text errors It's worth noting that it won't be a mandatory update. Also, Square Enix said it will be a relatively small download, weighing around 300MB. The performance of Final Fantasy XVI looked a bit problematic even in the free demo released on PlayStation 5. Beyond addressing the optimization with the day-one patch, the developers also discussed other feedback received after the release of the demo. Another common complaint is that the demo featured a lot of the cutscenes, to which producer Naoki Yoshida replied: I agree, there are a lot of cutscenes. It's taken from the first act of the story, so there's more scene-setting than later in the game. It will gradually become more like the Eikon Challenge section in general. But there will still be long scenes at crucial points in the story. Still, we believe the story we're telling is a compelling one, and once it grips you, you won't worry about the length of the scenes.Japanese players complained about lip synchronization being off, and Square Enix said it was done only for the English language, as it would have otherwise been too much to work. They tried to use AI to adjust lip synchronization in Japanese, but its results weren't satisfactory. The developers encouraged players to play Final Fantasy XVi using English voices and their native language's subtitles. Square Enix is also looking into ways to adjust motion blur via a dedicated setting or turn it off entirely. Additional upcoming options may include camera movement speed and the ability to disable auto-follow. The developers also discussed the streamlining of the demo. That part of Final Fantasy XVI is focused on set-piece battles, but it will open up later, offering explorable areas. That's also why there's no mini-map, as the team decided they'd rather have players looking at the world than looking at the mini-map. Poco C51, which was launched earlier this year in April, is now available at a discounted price when purchased with an Airtel Prepaid connection. Poco has collaborated with Airtel to offer the discount price on Flipkart. The handset will come locked with Airtel Prepaid connection and include some Airtel benefits. Apple announced iOS 17 at its WWDC 2023 event back in June with major changes and new features. It was initially coined that iOS 17 would be a minor update focusing on the stability of the platform. However, Apple made sure that the operating system came with its fair share of improvements. Soon after the event, Apple released the first beta of iOS 17 to developers for testing purposes. The company also announced that iOS 17 will be available for the general public to test. The best graphics cards don't always have to run full throttle. Sometimes, we may leave our system idling or use it to do the normal stuff, like watching YouTube videos. Some of us may ignore the graphics card's power consumption. Still, the German publication ComputerBase has inadvertently unearthed a simple option to help reduce idle power consumption on AMD Radeon graphics cards if you're running single or dual high-resolution, high-refresh-rate monitors. ComputerBase recently upgraded its labs with Powenetics V2 measuring software and hardware to improve power metric logging and a new 4K display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync support. As a result, the news outlet had to retest all its graphics cards and stumbled upon a discovery that enabling Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) can substantially lower the graphics card's idle power draw. The VRR option is available in Windows and AMD's drivers; however, the latter cannot enable it automatically. VRR is a technology that automatically adjusts your monitor's refresh rate to match the frame rate output from your games or content so that both remain in sync. You may find the VRR term under a different name, depending on the manufacturer, like Adaptive Sync, AMD FreeSync, or Nvidia G-Sync. AMD's RDNA 3 graphics cards, specifically the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, showed the most significant benefit. According to ComputerBase's results, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX drew 81% and 71% less idle power in a single-and dual-monitor configuration, respectively. Even under a more realistic test with Windows movement, the graphics card saw 36% lower power consumption. Watching YouTube at SDR and 60 FPS didn't yield significant results. With HDR enabled, however, the graphics card consumed 31% less power.The phenomenon isn't limited to AMD's RDNA 3 graphics cards, either. ComputerBase saw similar behavior on last-generation RDNA 2 SKUs, such as the Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6700 XT, although to a lesser degree. For example, enabling VRR decreased the Radeon RX 6800 XT's idle power consumption by 79% and the window movement test by 17%. The option didn't substantially impact the Radeon RX 6800 XT in the other scenarios. VRR enablement had a reversed effect on Intel and Nvidia graphics cards. ComputerBase recorded up to 11% higher idle power consumption on the Arc A770. However, Arc A770 sipped 4% less power with the YouTube HDR test at 60 FPS. The same option negatively impacted Nvidia's latest GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards, such as the GeForce RTX 4080. ComputerBase observed 25% higher idle power on a single monitor and up to 12% on a dual-monitor layout. The VRR option also increased power consumption between 4% to 5% when watching YouTube videos. People had been critical of AMD's RDNA 3 graphics card's idle power consumption and high-resolution display, and with good reason. A graphics card shouldn't pull over 100W when the system is idling or even when watching a YouTube video. The VRR option is a game-changer for RDNA 3, as it brings the graphics card's idle power consumption down to Ada Lovelace levels in idle scenarios. However, Ada Lovelace is still power efficient. For example, even with VRR enabled, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX's power consumption was still higher than the GeForce RT X 4080 in the Windows movement and YouTube tests. ComputerBase has contacted AMD to inquire about the technical details of why and how VRR can make a big difference in lowering idle power consumption on RDNA 3 graphics cards. However, the chipmaker hasn't gotten back to the German publication, but we'll keep our eyes peeled when i t does and update this articlewith some insight from AMD. At an absolute minimum your system must be running an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or an Intel Core i7-6800K, 16GB of RAM, and either an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or Nvidia GeForce 1070 Ti. The free TV company Telly has started shipping its ad-supported TVs to its first wave of customers. Telly first opened its waitlist in May and plans on shipping 500,000 free TVs to customers by the end of 2023 — and “millions more” in 2024. Unlike most TVs, beneath Telly’s 55-inch 4K display is a smaller screen separated from the main display by a soundbar. That thinner display is dedicated to showing advertisements, which is the point of its business To even use the thing, you’ll need to commit to having your viewing data sucked up and used by advertisers. If you’re okay with that, you can also use the secondary display to show widgets that surface sports scores, a news sticker, the weather, and more. The TV features a camera (with a privacy shutter) for fitness programs as well, along with a set of built-in games. Additionally, Telly announced that it’s working with Nielsen to “collect and interpret first-of-its-kind viewership and ad effectiveness insights” for advertisers and TV programmers. It’s also working with Microsoft, Magnite, and MNTN to power the ads on the TV. Microsoft became Netflix’s advertising partner for its new ad-supported tier last year. It’s not clear how many customers Telly is shipping its TVs out to during this round, but it says those who receive the device will get to participate in the public beta program. That means they’ll also get access to some of the features Telly is making available at launch, including integrations with Spotify, LiveOne, and Zoom. While Telly’s system doesn’t let you install any streaming apps, it still ships with a Google TV dongle. What a CPU does is execute the instructions of a program located in a memory. But did you know that they all follow the same general rules? They all follow the same instruction cycle, which is divided into three distinct stages called Fetch, Decode, and Execute, which are translated as fetch, decode, and execute. We explain how these stages work and how they are organized. In order to simplify and make the concepts explained in this article more understandable, we have decided to describe an extremely simple processor for these times, so in this article you will see an explanation of what instruction cycles are in a general way that can be apply from the first 8-bit processors to the most complex ones that exist today. The processors are not different from a certain point of view to a combustion engine, which always carry out a continuous process of fuel explosion in different stages, whether they are 2-stroke or 4-stroke. The reason for this is that the processors work in three different stages in their simplest version, which are the following: Fetch or Capture: In which the instruction is captured from RAM memory and copied into the processor. Decode or Decoding: In which the previously captured instruction is decoded and sent to the execution units. Execute or Execution: Where the instruction is resolved and the result written in the internal registers of the processor or in a memory address of RAM. These three stages are fulfilled in every processor, there is a fourth stage which is Write-Back which is when the execution units write the result, but normally this is counted within the execution stage of the instruction cycle. The first stage of the instruction cycle is responsible for capturing the instructions that are in the RAM memory assigned to the processor through a series of units and registers that are the following: Program Counter or Program Counter: Which points to the next memory line where the next processor instruction is located. Its value is incremented by 1 each time a complete instruction cycle is completed or when a jump instruction changes the value of the program counter. Memory Address Register or memory address register: The MAR copies the contents of the PC and sends it to RAM through the address pins of the CPU, which are wired with the address pins of the RAM itself. Memory Data Register or memory data register: In the event that the CPU has to perform a memory reading, what the MDR does is copy the content of that memory address to an internal register of the CPU, which is a temporary step register before its contents are copied to the Instruction Register. The MDR, contrary to the MAR, is connected to the data pins of the RAM and not to the address pins, and in the case of a write instruction, the content of what is to be written in the RAM is also written in the MDR Instruction Register or Instruction Register: The final part of the capture or fetch stage is the writing of the instruction in the instruction register, from which the processor control unit will copy its content for the second stage of the instruction cycle. Ubisoft has brought its PC games to Steam, many of which have been exclusives to Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store for a few years. Assassin's Creed Valhalla was first, Anno 1800 followed, and Watch Dogs: Legion was next. According to the new Steam listing for the game, the Watch Dogs adventure will hit the platform on January 26, 2023 with three versions available, the Standard Edition containing only the base game. The Gold Edition includes the base game and the Season Pass, the latter of which adds four new heroes like Aiden Pearce and Wrench from Watch Dogs 1 and Part 2. The Ultimate Edition features all of the above and the Ultimate Pack, with three masked characters, more cosmetic items and XP boosts. If you were waiting for any new update regarding the game, then the support has stopped .. This means that the update has stopped being released, and it will not be limited to additional content only.
