Already eco-friendly in nature, the Cardano blockchain works on a proof-of-stake (PoS) mining model. With the data load on blockchains bulking up by the day, several networks have begun to deploy improvements to their current ecosystems. The Cardano blockchain is the latest one to be getting ready to receive a network revamp, that seems to have stirred a buzz in the global crypto community. The name of this upgrade is ‘Mithril', which is designed to elevate the security and transaction processing timelines. The deployment of this upgrade from the testnet to the Cardano mainnet is right around the corner. Already eco-friendly in nature, the Cardano blockchain works on a proof-of-stake (PoS) mining model. Its native token is also called Cardano and is denoted as ADA. Its current market cap stands at $10.68 billion (roughly Rs. 87,456 crore). The Mithril upgrade is aimed at making Cardano better the efficiency of its speed, security, and decentralised decision-making capabilities. This upgrade would not only make the transaction speed on the Cardano blockchain swifter, but will also expand the kinds of decentralised applications (dApps) it could host. Crypto Firm Rain Grabs License to Handle Assets in UAE “Mithril retrieves a snapshot of the current blockchain state boosting the syncing time for nodes while facilitating strong security settings. dApp developers will be able to deploy light clients and mobile applications or streamline sidechain operations. Mithril will also empower stake-based voting applications and governance solutions. Secure tally verification through Mithril signatures can simplify decentralised decision-making, providing verifiable outcomes,” Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the blockchain firm responsible for Cardano, explained in a blog post. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/cryptocurrency/news/cardano-mithril-upgrde-blockchain-ada-community-4239501

The Windows 11 Photos app is testing a pair of key AI-powered features, continuing a surprising and welcome renaissance in Microsoft’s multimedia apps. Microsoft said Thursday that the Photos app is adding background blur, the “portrait mode” that’s become common smartphones. Even better, the OneDrive app now has smarter search capabilities for photos, so that you’ll be able to search by the content of the picture, such as a beach scene or “snow.” We criticized Microsoft earlier this year for the fact the old Photos app was better than the new one. And in some sense, it is: in Photos Legacy, you can search for content, such as the previously mentioned beach scenes. Provided that you’ve connected Photos to OneDrive (which you can do in the drop-down menu on the left-hand rail) you can now use the regular Photos app as a front door to OneDrive photo searches. We should point out, too, that in May Microsoft re-introduced Spot Fix to Photos, which allows you to highlight a small area and use AI to filter out any anomalies. (Think specks of dust on a laptop.) Background blur, though, hints at another feature we recently lobbied for: Paint3D’s Magic Select, which has now been added to Paint. Really, Background Blur and Magic Select perform the same task. They identify and separate the foreground subject from the background. Magic Select cuts it away; Background Blur simply applies an AI blur filter to the background. There’s one problem: the portrait mode/background blur feature that Microsoft has shown us before was pretty poor. That came courtesy of the Surface Duo 2, the dual-screen smartphone that apparently Microsoft has abandoned. In our photo of a statue, the Duo applied the background blur feature on only part of the scene. We’ll have to see if Photos is any better. If nothing else, Background Blur is adjustable. Microsoft is providing these new features in the Canary and Dev Channels of Microsoft Photos, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll eventually see it. There’s a good chance, though, and it’s great to see Photos gain some unexpected new improvements. Can Magic Select be next? https://www.pcworld.com/article/2069425/microsoft-photos-renaissance-continues-with-new-ai-features.html

The Dark Rock heatsinks are Be quiet!'s top range. In the fourth version of the Dark Rock Pro we had a heatsink with a TDP of 250W. Now the fifth version increases this figure to 270W. In the Elite model the TDP is 10W higher, at 280W. Housed in an elegant pitch black box in keeping with its own name, Be quiet! shows the design of the heatsink on the front. At the top it shows the TDP, on the left we have the specifications and on the right we have a QR with product information. In the Dark Rock Pro 5 we have a 12 cm Silent Wings front fan with 9 blades with a consumption of 0.2A, this has rubber to mitigate noise and is fixed with black clips, an aesthetic detail. https://www.noticias3d.com/articulo/3646/be-quiet-dark-rock-elite-pro-5-review-excelente-rendimiento-diseno.html

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has a bug that is locking players out of the free-to-play game unless they purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. This is slightly confusing: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 share the same client launcher, but are distinct products, and players should be able to download Warzone 2 and play it without having purchased Modern Warfare 2. The problem appears to be widespread, and in most cases seems to occur after players have played several matches and try to start another from the menus. At this point a pop-up window appears saying "Purchase Modern Warfare 2 to have access to everything" and the game won't start. This appears to be happening across several playlists, and restarting the game doesn't help. "Since yesterday I played probably around 6 Warzone 2.0 matches with no problem (finished my last match a few minutes ago)," wrote Unf0cused. "Now when I try to play it, when I click Battle Royale Solos I get the "Purchase Modern Warfare II to have access to everything" window (I've also tried the other BR variants with the same result)." Players have been able to work out ways around certain Warzone 2 glitches like the social feed not working (which is now fixed) but this appears to be a hard block at the moment. It is certainly unintentional, because it has also been locking out players who have already purchased Modern Warfare 2. The Warzone 2 trello board contains no mention of this particular glitch, though it does note that the 'play again' button has been temporarily disabled which may have something to do with it, nor has there been any acknowledgement from other official channels. Warzone 2 just pushed a patch live for a bug that was preventing players from partying up, so it looks like the fix may have had unintended consequences. https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-Warzone-2-is-locking-players-out-and-asking-them-to-buy-Modern-Warfare-2/

Elon Musk has said that limit will "soon" increase to 10,000 for verified, 1,000 for unverified and 500 for new unverified. Elon Musk's Twitter has put a temporary limit on the number of tweets that users can see each day, a move that has sparked some backlash and could undermine the social network's efforts to attract advertisers. The limit, imposed to "address extreme levels of data scraping and system mani[CENSORED]tion", is the latest change by Twitter, which was last year acquired by Musk for $44 billion (nearly Rs. 3,60,550 crore). What does the latest change mean and what are the alternatives to Twitter? How do the changes impact users? PlayUnmute Fullscreen Users cannot view tweets without logging in to the platform. Verified accounts can now read 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts 600 posts and new un-verified accounts 300 posts. After that, users will get a message that says, "rate limit exceeded". Musk has said that limit will "soon" increase to 10,000 for verified, 1,000 for unverified and 500 for new unverified. He has been pushing to make Twitter's overhauled verified service more attractive. Musk made Twitter verified — special badges that were earlier given to notable profiles — a paid subscription and introduced tiers like gray, blue and golden badges. Why did Musk put the limit? Musk said the limits would help tackle scraping vast amounts of data from Twitter by almost everyone — from AI companies and startups to tech behemoths. "It is rather galling to have to bring large numbers of servers online on an emergency basis just to facilitate some AI startup's outrageous valuation," he said in a tweet. The technology behind generative AI tools such as ChatGPT is trained on massive amounts of data taken from the internet that helps produce everything from poems to pictures. What are users saying? Several Twitter users complained, with "#TwitterDown" and "RIP Twitter" trending on the social network website over the past couple of days. The limits especially impact accounts run by informational agencies, journalists and monitoring services as they rely on reviewing thousands of tweets every day. The National Weather Service said it may be unable to see tweeted reports of severe weather and associated damage, and asked subscribers to use its office telephone numbers instead. What are the alternatives? Twitter-like platforms like Bluesky and Mastodon are the main alternatives. They saw a surge in users and activity soon after Musk announced the limits. Bluesky, launched by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and now in the beta mode, said it saw "record high traffic" on Saturday and that it was temporarily pausing new sign-ups. Mastodon also saw its active user base swell by 110,000 on that day, its creator and CEO Eugen Rochko said. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/apps/news/elon-musk-twitter-temporary-limit-number-of-tweets-explainer-4174730

Meta announced its latest Threads app to take on Twitter as a leading microblogging platform. The app features a plethora of similarities compared to Elon Musk's sinking ship but the latter is still quite prevalent in terms of userbase and expanded feature set. Seemingly, Meta has released the first major update for the Threads app, offering various features that users have been asking for. The latest Threads app update offers a new Follow tab on the activity feed that allows users to see who follows them. This gives users easy access to followers and if they should follow them back. The update also comes with improvements on the feed load times, and the ability to subscribe to unfollowed users. Another major addition is translation and you can check out the rest of the additions below. The information was shared by Instagran's software engineer Cameron Roth on Threads. There is also a boatload of other additions that you should check out. If you are interested, you can update the Threads app right now from the App Store or the Play Store if it is not automatically updated. Furthermore, since the Threads app is growing rapidly, you might have to wait a while before the update is available. We would recommend waiting a few hours if the update does not show up for you on your respective app stores. These are all the new changes shared by Insatgram's software engineer on Threads. If you still have not downloaded the Threads app on your iPhone or Android, be sure to do so and post your Instagram followers onto a new platform. Meta is giving users a choice to move away from Twitter as the leading microblogging platform. Nonetheless, Twitter has its own userbase who are accustomed to the interface and usage. One of the major aspects that the Threads app still lacks is a desktop version of the platform, Hopefully, Meta will either release an app for Windows and macOS or it could launch a Threads website. You can download the Threads app from the App Store and Play Store. https://wccftech.com/threads-app-major-update-features/

The Welsh Conservatives' Senedd leader has been warned against going down a "blind alley" of trying to debate the abolition of the Welsh Parliament. Andrew RT Davies took to X, formerly Twitter, to say that he raised the issue at the Vale of Glamorgan agricultural show as he was "keen to find out people's views". But Tory peer Nick Bourne, a former leader of the party in Wales and a member of the then Welsh Assembly, said there were "very many good things about devolved politics". While the abolition of the Senedd is not a policy of the Conservatives, Mr Davies said he was keen to find out people's views. "Once the vote was taken over 25 years ago, we determined that the correct approach was to make the assembly work, now the Senedd, for the good of the people of Wales," said Lord Bourne on BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement programme. "That remains very much the position. I don't understand why we're going down this blind alley. "It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me." Earlier in the week, Mr Davies shared a photo on X from the Vale of Glamorgan Show, showing how people were being asked to drop a ball into one of two buckets to highlight whether they wanted to abolish the Senedd or not, which he admitted was an "unscientific poll". Kent had the highest number of weapons attacks against animals in England and Wales, according to the RSPCA. The animal charity found there had been 61 reports of animals targeted from 2020-2023 in Kent, the highest across all regions. In one incident, a fox in Chatham had to be put down after a catapult attack by a group of teenagers. RSPCA Lead Wildlife Officer Geoff Edmond said: “These weapon attacks are horrific, but what we see is likely only the tip of the iceberg - and we are particularly concerned about the situation in Kent.” The figures for Kent make up more than 6% of the total number of weapons attacks against animals in the UK. Overall, the number of animal cruelty reports involving air guns, slingshots or crossbows increased last year across England and Wales, with a total of 370 incidents. The charity noted that incidents of animal cruelty increase in the summer months and particularly involve wild animals. 'Wider problem' The RSPCA said it was concerned about cats as the species has seen attacks double in the first six months of 2024 compared to 2023. Mr Edmond said: “Day after day, our frontline officers and animal centres see the sickening consequences of weapons being used on animals - severe injuries often leading to death. “And what we deal with probably only represents a small part of a much wider problem.” The RSPCA has launched its 'No Animal Deserves Cruelty Appeal' summer appeal to raise funds to tackle animal crime. BMW is going bold with its Neue Klasse electric models. The automaker will build a sporty coupe on its new EV platform with dramatic proportions and M1-inspired cues. The details on this performance car are pretty scarce, but we do know that the Neue Klasse platform is capable of up to 621 miles of range and 1,341 horsepower. The electric M3 is expected to have at least 700 horsepower. The Neue Klasse coupe could debut toward the tail-end of 2025 (given that we've already seen spy photos). But we don't know how much it will cost. If this new coupe is priced in line with other BMW performance cars before it, it could cost over $150,000. That's what BMW asked for the i8 when it was new. https://www.motor1.com/features/733101/best-new-cars-2025/

Kylian Mbappe made his La Liga debut as defending champions Real Madrid were held by Mallorca on the opening day. The France captain scored on his debut for the club in Wednesday's 2-0 Uefa Super Cup win over Atalanta. But the summer signing from Paris St-Germain failed to get off the mark in domestic football. Rodrygo curled home a fine opener from Vinicius Jr's backheel to give Carlo Ancelotti's side the lead. But Vedat Muriqi equalised with a header from Dani Rodriguez's cross. Madrid defender Ferland Mendy was sent off deep into injury time for a lunge on Muriqi. Mbappe, PSG's record goalscorer and six-time Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner, had chances for Madrid. He flashed a shot just wide as well as forcing keeper Dominik Greif into a save with his legs. This was the first time the 25-year-old World Cup winner had played a league game outside France after starting his career with Monaco. Link: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/c1jlp71k167t

Children and young people across London are being challenged to learn how to save lives. The London Ambulance Service (LAS) will award its Charity Challenge badges to groups aged 18 and under who can complete a series of tasks. They will learn CPR and first aid as well as how to support paramedics' work through fundraising and promoting healthier lifestyles. The initiative, which has already been trialled by several groups including Scouts, is thought to be the first of its kind from an ambulance service. To be awarded the LAS Charity Challenge badge, participants have to complete one challenge from each of five core sections. As well as first aid and CPR, they will also learn how to effectively call 999. All activities will be adapted to suit varying ability levels and ages. Groups are also encouraged to take on a fundraising challenge of their choosing, or take part in the London Life Hike – LAS's first sponsored walk to raise funds for defibrillators. “It’s crucial young people know how to deal with emergencies effectively and when or how to get help,” said its paramedic and public education officer, Emma McLeod. 'Proud' Cub leader at 3rd Cheam Scouts, Daniel Lambart, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to learn important skills that we should all know about from a young age. “It was a great example of what a local Scouting unit can offer to the community." Paramedic Ms McLeod said her own struggles in the classroom had spurred on her interest in working in the field of paramedicine. “I always wanted to pursue a role in healthcare, but due to my autism and ADHD I struggled in a traditional classroom environment," she said. “I love the freedom and autonomy working as a paramedic offers me. "Also, having grown up in London, I'm proud to contribute to the ambulance service that looks after my family and home.” Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0jpg9nzdezo

The elusive artist Banksy has confirmed he painted swimming piranhas on to a City of London Police sentry box, which was first spotted on Sunday morning. The glass-fronted box on Ludgate Hill - near The Old Bailey and St Paul's Cathedral - has been transformed to look like an aquarium. This is his seventh new artwork to be revealed in the capital in as many days, following a goat, monkeys, elephants, a wolf, pelicans and a cat. Crowds gathered to take photos throughout the day until barriers were installed, preventing people from going inside. This work differs from the previous works by Banksy unveiled this week in that it is a detailed painting that appears to have been created with translucent spray paint. The City of London Police said it was aware of "criminal damage" to the police box and were liaising with City of London Corporation which owns it. A corporation worker was earlier seen barricading it off and asking spectators not to stand in the road near it. A spokesperson said: "We are currently working through options to preserve the artwork." The sentry box is among many installed in the 1990s used by police officers monitoring traffic to prevent IRA attacks. 'Really uplifting' A local resident who came to take pictures of the fish artwork said she thought it was "rather beautiful in the sun." "I like it, it's got a charm to it somehow. It's not in your face, it's quite subtle. Artist Daniel Lloyd-Morgan, who has painted most of Banksy's new pieces of art this week said: "It's really uplifting for people in London at the moment. "There's a buzz around his work. It's nice to capture that as I do the people as well. "It's not just about the artwork, it's about the whole environment he's creating, it becomes a sort of work of art itself - what happens to it, people steal it or take it away." Mr Lloyd-Morgan added that he was due to go on holiday on Monday but has postponed it in case Banksy's art revelations continue next week. Link: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9358vpz8zwo
