  1. Weightlifter Oleksandr Pielieshenko, who represented Ukraine at the Rio 2016 Olympics, has died during the conflict with Russia. Two-time European champion Pielieshenko, 30, joined the armed forces soon after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. "War takes the best of us... heroes do not die," said weightlifting coach and Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation (UWF) board member Viktor Slobodianiuk. Pielieshenko died on the front line, the UWF added. He was ranked fourth at the Rio Games in the 85kg category and won gold at the European championships in 2016 and 2017. Pielieshenko was later banned after failing a drugs test in 2018. "It is with great sadness that we inform you that the heart of merited master of sports of Ukraine... Oleksandr Pielieshenko has stopped beating today," the UWF said in a post on Facebook. "We express our sincere condolences to the family and everyone who knew Oleksandr." https://www.bbc.com/sport/weightlifting/articles/cjk4pmv4y54o
  2. Life has changed now that your baby is here, and you might have lots of questions about what to do. These tips can help first-time parents feel confident about caring for a newborn in no time. How Do I Get Help After My Baby Comes Home? An important part of caring for a newborn is to also take care of yourself. Consider getting help during this time, which can feel hectic and a bit overwhelming. Relatives and friends might want to help. Even if you disagree on some things, their own experiences might be helpful. To keep your baby healthy, anyone handling your little one should be up to date on their vaccines and help only if they feel well. But if you don't feel up to having guests or have other concerns, don't feel guilty about limiting visitors. How Do I Handle My Baby? If you haven't spent a lot of time around newborns, they may seem very fragile. Here are a few basics to remember: Wash your hands (or use a hand sanitizer) before handling your baby. Newborns don't have a strong immune system yet, so they're at risk for infections. Make sure that everyone who handles your baby has clean hands. Support your baby's head and neck. Cradle the head when carrying your baby. And support the head when carrying the baby upright or when you lay your baby down. Never shake your baby, whether in play or in frustration. Shaking can cause bleeding in the brain and sometimes death. If you need to wake your baby, don't do it by shaking. Instead, tickle your baby's feet or blow gently on a cheek. Always fasten your baby securely when using a carrier, stroller, or car seat. Limit any activity that could be too rough or bouncy. Avoid rough play with newborns, such as jiggling them on the knee or throwing them in the air. How Can I Bond With My Baby? Bonding happens during the first hours and days after birth when parents make a deep connection with their child. Physical closeness can help form an emotional link and help your baby develop in other ways. Another way to think of bonding is "falling in love" with your baby. Kids thrive from having a parent or other adult in their life who loves them unconditionally. Begin bonding by cradling and gently stroking your baby in different patterns. Another good technique is skin-to-skin contact (also called kangaroo care), where you hold your newborn against your own chest. This helps calm and soothe babies and regulate their heartbeat. It’s a good practice for moms or dads to do. Here’s how to do skin-to-skin contact with your baby: Avoid using scented perfumes or lotions and stay away from cigarette smoke beforehand. Find a comfortable seat in a dimly-lit room. Wear a shirt that opens in the front. Lay your baby in just a diaper on your bare chest. Sit quietly, talk softly, hum, sing, or read aloud. Your baby may sleep during this time. How Can Soothe My Baby? Helping babies relax can help them feel happier and more comfortable. Here are some tips on soothing your baby. Massage: Infant massage may help babies, especially those who were born early or have medical problems. Some types of massage may enhance bonding and help babies grow and develop. Many books and videos cover infant massage — ask your doctor for recommendations. Be careful, though — babies aren’t as strong as adults, so massage your baby gently. Sounds: Babies usually love vocal sounds, such as talking, babbling, singing, and cooing. Your baby will probably enjoy listening to soft music. Baby rattles and musical mobiles are other good ways to stimulate your infant's hearing. If your little one is fussy, try singing, reciting poetry and nursery rhymes, or reading aloud as you sway or rock your baby gently in a chair. Some babies can be unusually sensitive to touch, light, or sound. They might startle and cry easily, sleep less than expected, or turn their faces away when someone speaks or sings to them. If that's the case with your baby, keep noise and light levels low to medium. Swaddling: Another soothing technique is swaddling, which works well for some babies during their first few weeks. Proper swaddling keeps a baby's arms close to the body while allowing their legs to move a bit. It keeps a baby warm, and it seems to give most newborns a sense of security and comfort. Swaddling also may help limit the startle reflex, which can wake a baby. Here's how to swaddle your baby: Spread out a baby blanket with one corner folded over slightly. Lay the baby face-up on the blanket with their head above the folded corner. Wrap the left corner over the baby's body and tuck it beneath the back, going under the right arm. Bring the bottom corner up over the baby's feet and pull it toward their head, folding the fabric down if it gets close to your baby's face. Don’t wrap too tightly around the hips. The hips and knees should be slightly bent and turned out. Wrapping your baby too tightly may increase their risk for hip dysplasia (dis-PLAY-zhuh). Wrap the right corner around your baby, and tuck it under their back on the left side, leaving only the neck and head exposed. To make sure your baby isn’t wrapped too tightly, make sure you can slip a hand between the blanket and your baby's chest. This will allow comfortable breathing. But make sure that the blanket isn’t so loose that it could come undone. Stop swaddling when your baby shows signs of starting to roll over. That’s usually around 2 months. At this age, some babies can roll over while swaddled, which puts them at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). How Do I Diaper My Baby? Whether you use cloth or disposable diapers, your little one will dirty them about 10 times a day, which is about 70 times a week. When diapering your baby: Have all the supplies you need within reach. Wipe your baby front to back gently using water, cotton balls, and a washcloth or wipes. Apply diaper cream if needed to treat diaper rash. Wash your hands after changing the diaper. When Should I Bathe My Baby? For the first few weeks, babies get sponge baths. Then, after the umbilical cord stump falls off and the circumcision heals (if your baby was circumcised), babies can have baths in a sink or small plastic infant tub. When your baby is ready for tub baths, the first ones should be gentle and brief. If your baby gets upset, go back to sponge baths for a week or two, then try the tub bath again. A bath two or three times a week in the first year is fine. More frequent bathing may be drying to the baby's skin. How Do I Care for the Umbilical Cord and Circumcision Area? Umbilical cord care: Clean around the cord stump with plain water and blot dry until the stump dries up and falls off, usually in 10 days to 3 weeks. Don’t let the belly button area soak in water until the stump falls off and the area heals. Before the cord stump falls off, it will change color from yellow to brown or black — this is normal. Call your doctor if the area looks red, has a bad odor, or has discharge. Circumcision care: After a circumcision, doctors usually put petroleum jelly on the tip of the baby's penis and cover it with gauze to keep the wound from sticking to the diaper. At each diaper change, gently wipe the tip clean with warm water (not a baby wipe), then apply petroleum jelly and gauze. Penis redness or irritation should heal within a few days to a week. But call your baby's doctor right away if it gets worse or if pus-filled blisters form. These can be signs of an infection. How Often Should I Feed My Baby? Whether feeding your newborn by breast or a bottle, you may wonder how often to do so. Generally, it's recommended that babies be fed on demand — that is, whenever they seem hungry. Your baby may show you they're hungry by crying, putting fingers in their mouth, or making sucking noises. A newborn baby needs to be fed every 2–3 hours. Breastfed babies are probably getting enough to eat if they: seem satisfied have about 6 wet diapers and several poops a day sleep well gain weight regularly Another good way to tell if a breastfed baby is getting milk is to notice if your breasts feel full before feeding your baby and less full after feeding. If you're formula-feeding, you can easily see if your baby is getting enough to eat. Talk with your doctor if you have concerns about your baby's growth or feeding schedule. Babies often swallow air during feedings, which can make them fussy. To help prevent this, burp your baby often. What Should I Know About My Baby’s Sleep? You may be surprised to learn that newborns sleep about 16 hours or more. They typically sleep for periods of 2–4 hours. Many babies sleep through the night (between 6–8 hours) at 3 months of age, but if yours doesn't, it's not a cause for concern. Like adults, babies develop their own sleep patterns and cycles. Always place babies on their back to sleep to lower their risk of SIDS. Other safe sleeping practices include: not using blankets, quilts, sheepskins, bumpers, stuffed animals, or pillows in the crib or bassinet because they can suffocate a baby parents sharing a bedroom (but not a bed) with the baby for the first 6 months to 1 year Change the position of your baby's head from night to night (first right, then left, and so on). This helps prevent a flat spot from developing on one side of the head. Before long, you'll have a routine and be parenting like a pro. If you have questions or concerns, talk with your doctor. They can recommend resources that can help. Medically reviewed by: Amy W. Anzilotti, MD Date reviewed: May 2023 https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/guide-parents.html
  3. Relentless bombardment, power outages and shortages have pushed nearly every hospital in the beleaguered northern Gaza Strip out of service, with evidence of repeated attacks on and in the vicinity of medical facilities despite the presence of doctors, patients and civilians inside, a CNN analysis has found. At least 20 out of 22 hospitals identified by CNN in northern Gaza were damaged or destroyed in the first two months of Israel's war against Hamas, from October 7 to December 7, according to a review of 45 satellite images and around 400 videos from the ground, as well as interviews with doctors, eyewitnesses and humanitarian organizations. Fourteen were directly hit, based on the evidence collected and verified by CNN and analyzed by experts. Israel launched its bombardment and ground invasion of the Gaza Strip after Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack, in which at least 1,200 people were killed and more than 240 others taken hostage. In the first two months of the war, at least 17,100 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on the strip, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. At the time of publishing, that number was more than 23,400. Israel says that Hamas operates inside and underneath hospitals, and is using them for military operations, including as command centers, weapons stores and to hide hostages. The Israelis have released footage they say is evidence of those Hamas operations. The videos do not offer definitive proof, and Hamas has denied the claims. CNN sent a list of the hospitals identified as damaged or destroyed to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In response, the IDF said it “did not conduct any targeted attacks against hospitals in the Gaza Strip,” adding that “Hamas systematically misuses hospitals and medical facilities.” Tracking how aerial bombardment has impacted hospitals in northern Gaza gives a sense of the scale and scope of devastation that the war has wrought on the enclave’s health system — and the knock-on impact to civilians who have relied on the facilities for shelter and care, and are more in need of their services now than ever before. https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2024/01/middleeast/gaza-hospitals-destruction-investigation-intl-cmd/

  5. Crystal Journey is a lightweight indie puzzle adventure game set in bright 3D environments that we can rotate and zoom however we like to see the level from every angle. The goal in each stage is to reach the exit guarded by a locked door. To get there, we must first find all the hidden keys by traveling along narrow paths, climbing ledges and ladders, operating buttons and switches, and using teleporters. Most levels also introduce deadly hazards, such as spikes, cannons, or lasers. Some of these can be easily avoided, while the others require precisely timed actions, which I found a bit unnerving for an otherwise relaxing game. While I appreciate the game's vibrant art style and use of the 3D space, it’s sometimes hard to navigate the levels due to the poorly responsive controls. Some elements are simply too small or covered by other objects to let us properly see them, and just a single inaccurate tap can lead our character in the wrong direction. Crystal Journey is a premium game that costs $0.49 on Android and $1.49 on iOS. Aside from a couple of frustrating levels, it is a relaxing experience that I’m sure a wide variety of puzzle fans will enjoy – despite the mediocre controls. https://minireview.io/puzzle/crystal-journey

  6. It feels weird when you've got a shiny new gaming screen sitting on your desktop, with all the rich OLED-ness we've been wanting from our monitors, to find yourself pining for the old-school IPS screen it's just displaced. But that's where I am with the new Dough Spectrum Black screen. If you were to just casually glance over the specs of Dough's long-planned OLED monitor you'd maybe be forgiven for wondering just what my issue is. It is, after all, a 27-inch 1440p OLED panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate, a response time so low you might as well just say it's effectively instant, and it all comes under a lovely glossy Gorilla Glass cover. What's not to like, as my dear ol' dad is wont to say? A surprising amount, actually. Mostly because I don't think any 27-inch 1440p display should ever be priced over $1,100. That would be the case even if it was the best example of a 1440p panel I'd ever seen, but with the pricing and the additional drawbacks of OLED as a monitor technology, that makes this far from the sweet spot of gaming monitor perfection. Sponsored Links Before plugging it in I actually thought it was going to be the brightness, or lack thereof, which would be my biggest issue using the Spectrum Black. It's sporting LG's first-gen OLED monitor panel, which means you're getting a typical 150 cd/m² brightness level, with a peak of 450 cd/m². You can get up to 1,000 cd/m² of peak luminance in HDR mode, but only on 3% of the screen. So, you will get some pin-prick peaks of super HDR brightness, though the overall scene can remain pretty dull, especially on outside scenes. But after an initial ick over the comparatively dull image—having swapped from a crisp 750 cd/m² display—I got used to it far quicker than I expected. Sure, in a brightly lit office it can look a bit dim, but even using it here in PCG Towers it's got enough about it that I've not been concerned about it. And in the poorly lit confines of my home gaming space, it really isn't a problem at all. Honestly, I don't want retina-searing full screen brightness for every moment I'm sitting in front of my gaming monitor, so I'm actually going to let it off on the brightness count. It still looks quite lovely in games, with that colour and contrast really making scenes look rich, especially when you can indulge in a little light HDR funtimes, too. Mostly. I would still prefer to have the slightly higher QD-OLED brightness Samsung's panels offer on the whole, but that's not the real kicker here. My biggest issue, it turns out, is the lack of clarity in the panel during general PC use. That isn't just a factor of my switching from a panel of the same size but with a much higher density of pixels—owing to its 4K resolution IPS panel—but also because there is a real issue with fonts at this 1440p scale on an OLED monitor. The thing is, I could probably live with it. If this was my only display, and I was primarily gaming on it, too. I'd enjoy schlepping around a neon-lit Night City, and double-tapping randos in Hitman, and I'd probably forget all about the slightly indistinct nature of the text and grow used to the slight nagging headache from staring at it all day long. Because there are still a lot of good points about this screen. The classic OLED blacks and deeply and truly inky, the contrast is crisp and the response speedy. The 240 Hz refresh is welcome, too, and offers a frame rate match more attainable thanks to the 1440p resolution. In-game that slightly lower brightness isn't a problem because the deeper contrast offers genuine HDR, especially when it can show off those pin-prick 1,000 cd/m2 peaks of luminance. I also like Dough's attention to the style of the screen, and, were it not for larger bezels because of the over-provisioning of pixels so it can pixel-shift the screen to accommodate the potential of OLED-based burn-in, I'd say it was one of the best-looking OLED monitors I've seen. It's thinner on the rear of the screen than most and still comes with a huge number of connectivity options. I dig the USB Type-C hub, the 100 W power delivery over the alt DisplayPort protocol, and the fact you get a KVM switch built in. There are also a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports to go along with the DisplayPort 1.4 option for those console folk. https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/gaming-monitors/dough-spectrum-black-27-oled-gaming-monitor-review/

  9. Graphics cards are a fine piece of technology responsible for handling and outputting images on your system's screen. While they enhance your computer's graphics by speeding up the overall graphics processing time, they may not be necessary if you do not carry out activities that require heavy graphics processing (such as modern gaming or 3D modeling) on your device. Graphics card errors could cause your device to periodically malfunction –especially while playing heavy games. You may have experiences of your computer freezing, hanging, crashing, and abnormal screen color display or weird color patterns on your screen. These are some symptoms to take note of: Driver crashes Computer's screen going blank while other lights on keyboard or CPU are on (indicating a working computer) Loud fan sounds (which may be from your system's motherboard or the graphics card's cooling system) All these are symptoms of a bad graphics card. This guide provides several ways of fixing these errors, but before jumping into the fixes available for bad graphics cards, here are a few things you should know: 1. What's Graphics Card A graphics card is a graphics-enhancing technology; It may be a display adapter or video card within a computer's motherboard or installed and connected to the motherboard externally. The graphics card is a piece dedicated to providing very clear or high definition graphics data. In most cases, large games or software for 3D modeling will require a high GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), which may not come originally built into your device. In such cases, a graphics card will be required for optimal user experience. 2. What Can Cause a Graphics Card to Fail? Numerous errors can cause your graphics or video card to fail. Here's a summary of what leads to a broken graphics card: Poor ventilation Device overheating Dead graphics card fans Blown capacitors Outdated drivers Insufficient power supply to GPU The causes of graphics card failure are numerous, but those listed above are usually the case. Generally, overheating and power supply issues are the major causes. The effects of overheating can be severe and immediate (usually the cause of the video card error 43). Your graphics card is an electronic device made of tiny electronic components such as resistors and capacitors; an increase in temperature beyond your card's limit can result in these components physically damaged. Your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) requires a constant and sufficient power supply, especially when playing games that heavily utilize your GPU. 3. Symptoms of Bad Graphics Card The symptoms of graphics or video card errors are numerous. It would help if you were mindful of your graphics card whenever you notice any of these symptoms. Here's a summary: Distorted visuals or weird patterns displayed on the screen Periodic driver crashes The loud noise made by fans Black screen Blue screen appearing during gaming Unexpected system reboots 4. Graphics Card Errors VS Video Errors There's no distinction between graphics cards and video cards –they mean the same things. However, there's a distinction between the symptoms of graphics card errors and video errors, and this is not to be mistaken for normal video errors. Symptoms of graphics card errors have been listed above under the 'Symptoms of Bad Graphics Card' while symptoms of video errors as a result of bad graphics card includes: Strange colors displayed while watching videos Jerky and stuttering videos Screen freezing while playing videos Part 2. How to Fix Graphics Card Errors Okay, let's dive straight into the various known ways of solving graphics card errors without wasting more time. Before running to a technician or disassembling it yourself to go real technical on it, here are a few things to try to fix your graphics card errors the easy way. First, recall that there are some symptoms of bad graphics card errors, as mentioned earlier in this post. Recalling these symptoms may make it easier for you. A poorly ventilated graphics card, for instance, may need good ventilation to work again. So, try these things: Overheating is one of the most common causes of graphics card errors. Whether the graphics card came with its cooling system or depends on the main device's cooling system requires proper ventilation. One way to know if your motherboard or graphics card is overheating is if you hear a sudden roaring fan sound in your device after launching a video game that utilizes lots of your GPU. Always use your device in well-ventilated places –especially when playing games. All the heat generated by your computer's motherboard needs to be dissipated. 2. Update The Drivers Apart from the possibility that your graphics or video card drivers are outdated, it is always good to check and update your drivers. Updating your graphics card drivers is a good way to keep up with the ever-changing gaming technologies. Check the link that corresponds to your graphic card's manufacturers; NVidia AMD Intel Better still, you can automatically update drivers on Windows using the following steps: Step 1. Launch Device Manager Hold down the Windows Key + R on your keyboard, type cmd into the dialogue that pops up, and launch the Windows command prompt. Step 2. Type 'devmgmt. msc' into the window and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can click the Windows icon at the bottom left corner of your screen and type "Device Manager" into the search box to find and launch it. https://recoverit.wondershare.com/video-repair/how-to-fix-graphics-card.html

  12. A cat (Felis catus), commonly referred to as the domestic cat or house cat, is a small domesticated carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species of the family Felidae. Recent advances in archaeology and genetics have shown that the domestication of the cat occurred in the Near East around 7500 BC. It is commonly kept as a house pet and farm cat, but also ranges freely as a feral cat avoiding human contact. It is valued by humans for companionship and its ability to kill vermin. Its retractable claws are adapted to killing small prey like mice and rats. It has a strong, flexible body, quick reflexes, sharp teeth, and its night vision and sense of smell are well developed. It is a social species, but a solitary hunter and a crepuscular predator. Cat communication includes vocalizations like meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling, and grunting as well as cat body language. It can hear sounds too faint or too high in frequency for human ears, such as those made by small mammals. It also secretes and perceives pheromones. Female domestic cats can have kittens from spring to late autumn in temperate zones and throughout the year in equatorial regions, with litter sizes often ranging from two to five kittens. Domestic cats are bred and shown at events as registered pedigreed cats, a hobby known as cat fancy. Animal po[CENSORED]tion control of cats may be achieved by spaying and neutering, but their proliferation and the abandonment of pets has resulted in large numbers of feral cats worldwide, contributing to the extinction of bird, mammal and reptile species. As of 2017, the domestic cat was the second most po[CENSORED]r pet in the United States, with 95.6 million cats owned and around 42 million households owning at least one cat. In the United Kingdom, 26% of adults have a cat, with an estimated po[CENSORED]tion of 10.9 million pet cats as of 2020. As of 2021, there were an estimated 220 million owned and 480 million stray cats in the world. Etymology and naming The origin of the English word cat, Old English catt, is thought to be the Late Latin word cattus, which was first used at the beginning of the 6th century.[4] The Late Latin word may be derived from an unidentified African language.[5] The Nubian word kaddîska 'wildcat' and Nobiin kadīs are possible sources or cognates.[6] The forms might also have derived from an ancient Germanic word that was absorbed into Latin and then into Greek, Syriac, and Arabic.[7] The word may be derived from Germanic and Northern European languages, and ultimately be borrowed from Uralic, cf. Northern Sámi gáđfi, 'female stoat', and Hungarian hölgy, 'lady, female stoat'; from Proto-Uralic *käďwä, 'female (of a furred animal)'.[8] The English puss, extended as pussy and pussycat, is attested from the 16th century and may have been introduced from Dutch poes or from Low German puuskatte, related to Swedish kattepus, or Norwegian pus, pusekatt. Similar forms exist in Lithuanian puižė and Irish puisín or puiscín. The etymology of this word is unknown, but it may have arisen from a sound used to attract a cat.[9][10] A male cat is called a tom or tomcat[11] (or a gib,[12] if neutered). A female is called a queen[13][14] (or sometimes a molly,[15] if spayed). A juvenile cat is referred to as a kitten. In Early Modern English, the word kitten was interchangeable with the now-obsolete word catling.[16] A group of cats can be referred to as a clowder or a glaring.[17] Taxonomy The scientific name Felis catus was proposed by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 for a domestic cat.[1][2] Felis catus domesticus was proposed by Johann Christian Polycarp Erxleben in 1777.[3] Felis daemon proposed by Konstantin Satunin in 1904 was a black cat from the Transcaucasus, later identified as a domestic cat.[18][19] In 2003, the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature ruled that the domestic cat is a distinct species, namely Felis catus.[20][21] In 2007, the modern domesticated subspecies F. silvestris catus sampled worldwide was considered to have likely descended from the Near Eastern wildcat (F. lybica), following results of phylogenetic research.[22][23][a] In 2017, the IUCN Cat Classification Taskforce followed the recommendation of the ICZN in regarding the domestic cat as a distinct species, Felis catus.[24] Evolution Main article: Cat evolution Skulls of a wildcat (top left), a housecat (top right), and a hybrid between the two. (bottom center) The domestic cat is a member of the Felidae, a family that had a common ancestor about 10 to 15 million years ago.[25] The evolutionary radiation of the Felidae began in Asia during the Miocene around 8.38 to 14.45 million years ago.[26] Analysis of mitochondrial DNA of all Felidae species indicates a radiation at 6.46 to 16.76 million years ago.[27] The genus Felis genetically diverged from other Felidae around 6 to 7 million years ago.[26] Results of phylogenetic research shows that the wild members of this genus evolved through sympatric or parapatric speciation, whereas the domestic cat evolved through artificial selection.[28] The domestic cat and its closest wild ancestor are diploid and both possess 38 chromosomes[29] and roughly 20,000 genes.[30] Phylogenetic relationships of the domestic cat as derived through analysis of nuclear DNA:[26][27] Felidae Pantherinae Felinae other Felinae lineages Felis Jungle cat (F. chaus) Black-footed cat (F. nigripes) Sand cat (F. margarita) Chinese mountain cat (F. bieti) African wildcat (F. lybica) European wildcat (F. silvestris) Domestic cat mitochondrial DNA:[31] Felis Sand cat (F. margarita) Chinese mountain cat (F. bieti) European wildcat (F. silvestris) African wildcat Southern African wildcat (F. l. cafra) Asiatic wildcat (F. l. ornata) Near Eastern wildcat Domestic cat Domestication See also: Domestication of the cat and Cats in ancient Egypt A cat eating a fish under a chair, a mural in an Egyptian tomb dating to the 15th century BC It was long thought that the domestication of the cat began in ancient Egypt, where cats were venerated from around 3100 BC,[32][33] However, the earliest known indication for the taming of an African wildcat was excavated close by a human Neolithic grave in Shillourokambos, southern Cyprus, dating to about 7500–7200 BC. Since there is no evidence of native mammalian fauna on Cyprus, the inhabitants of this Neolithic village most likely brought the cat and other wild mammals to the island from the Middle Eastern mainland.[34] Scientists therefore assume that African wildcats were attracted to early human settlements in the Fertile Crescent by rodents, in particular the house mouse (Mus musculus), and were tamed by Neolithic farmers. This mutual relationship between early farmers and tamed cats lasted thousands of years. As agricultural practices spread, so did tame and domesticated cats .[31][35] Wildcats of Egypt contributed to the maternal gene pool of the domestic cat at a later time.[36] The earliest known evidence for the occurrence of the domestic cat in Greece dates to around 1200 BC. Greek, Phoenician, Carthaginian and Etruscan traders introduced domestic cats to southern Europe.[37] During the Roman Empire they were introduced to Corsica and Sardinia before the beginning of the 1st millennium.[38] By the 5th century BC, they were familiar animals around settlements in Magna Graecia and Etruria.[39] By the end of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century, the Egyptian domestic cat lineage had arrived in a Baltic Sea port in northern Germany.[36] The leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) was tamed independently in China around 5500 BC. This line of partially domesticated cats leaves no trace in the domestic cat po[CENSORED]tions of today.[40] During domestication, cats have undergone only minor changes in anatomy and behavior, and they are still capable of surviving in the wild. Several natural behaviors and characteristics of wildcats may have pre-adapted them for domestication as pets. These traits include their small size, social nature, obvious body language, love of play, and high intelligence. Since they practice rigorous grooming habits and have an instinctual drive to bury and hide their urine and feces, they are generally much less messy than other domesticated animals. Captive Leopardus cats may also display affectionate behavior toward humans but were not domesticated.[41] House cats often mate with feral cats.[42] Hybridisation between domestic and other Felinae species is also possible, producing hybrids such as the Kellas cat in Scotland.[43][44] Development of cat breeds started in the mid 19th century.[45] An analysis of the domestic cat genome revealed that the ancestral wildcat genome was significantly altered in the process of domestication, as specific mutations were selected to develop cat breeds.[46] Most breeds are founded on random-bred domestic cats. Genetic diversity of these breeds varies b etween regions, and is lowest in purebred po[CENSORED]tions, which show more than 20 deleterious genetic disorders.[47] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat
  13. The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is the quickest Korean car we've ever tested, hitting 60 mph in 3.0 seconds flat. That time makes Hyundai's 641-hp AWD EV a tenth of a second quicker than the Kia EV6 GT, and the N is 1.5 seconds quicker than the regular 320-hp dual-motor Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 N is also just as quick to 60 mph as the 2023 $128K Lucid Air Touring we tested previously, and it has an edge over the BMW i4 M50 and a Tesla Model 3 Performance. Welcome to Car and Driver's Testing Hub, where we zoom in on the test numbers. We've been pushing vehicles to their limits since 1956 to provide objective data to bolster our subjective impressions (you can see how we test here). Nothing sends a smartphone into airplane mode quite like the nutty acceleration of an electric vehicle. They're heavy, but their viciously instant torque delivery and direct-drive transmissions make for some rapid speed. Best of all, a hot hatch such as the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N we just tested, accelerates like a six-figure sports car but at a fraction of the cost. Impressively, the $67K electric N's 3.0-second rip to 60 mph is just three tenths of a second behind a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 PDK. The last time a Hyundai put this much pressure on a Porsche, it was uninsured and tailgating someone on California's 405. For a short while, the 3.1-second 60-mph time of the speediest Kia EV6 GT we've tested earned it the crown as the quickest car from the Korean Hyundai/Kia group, but now that a high-performance trim has been added to the Ioniq 5 lineup this year, there's a new king. The N blows the previously quickest Hyundai's time out of the water, which was set by an Ioniq 6 with a 4.3-second 60-mph time. The track-focused 5 is also 1.5 seconds quicker than the more civilized 320-hp all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 (4.5 seconds). In N guise, the Ioniq 5 wears 275/35ZR-21 Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires wrapped around 21-inch forged-aluminum wheels. Every N is all-wheel drive, and among its myriad drive settings, including its ability to mimic mechanical gearchanges while making fake Elantra N exhaust noise, torque can be split front to rear 11 different ways. The quickest vehicle we've ever tested is the 2021 Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a 986-hp plug-in-hybrid rocket that completed its launch to 60 mph in 2.0 seconds. Owning such a capable machine will run you more than $700K, enough moola to buy each player on the first and second lines of the Pittsburgh Penguins an Ioniq 5 N—including the backup goalie. While the Ferrari is quicker than every car we've tested, it might surprise you what EVs Hyundai's 641-hp quasi-hatchback can beat to 60 mph. Because being the "quickest Hyundai" doesn't sound too bragworthy, consider this context: the Ioniq 5 N is quicker to 60 mph than the BMW i4 M50 and Tesla Model 3 Performance and also just as quick to 60 as a 2023 Lucid Air Touring, with an as-tested price of $128k, that packs an extra 340 pound-feet of torque. ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW The N's 11.1-second quarter-mile at 123 mph is impressive too. That beats any AMG-badged EV we've tested, and it's a tenth behind the 834-hp Tesla Cybertruck Beast's time of 11.0 seconds flat. Against our favorite gas-powered hot hatches, the much heavier Ioniq 5 N destroys their quarter-mile times: Honda Civic Type R (13.5 seconds at 106 mph), Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition (13.0 seconds at 106 mph), and the Volkswagen Golf R with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (12.6 ticks at 110 mph). Of course, Hyundai's hardcore EV has roughly double the horsepower and costs more than all of them. Big Stoppers and Solid Range to Boot The quickest Korean car also has the biggest brakes ever used to stop a Hyundai. The 4849-pound Ioniq 5 N has 15.7-inch rotors up front, more than two inches larger than what's used on Hyundai's huge three-row Palisade SUV. From 70 mph, the Ioniq 5 stops in 153 feet. That's just two feet shorter than the 5345-pound Lucid Air Sapphire (151 feet) which uses humongous 16.5-inch discs. Still, that puts the 5 N in good company with Lucid's $250K EV. Against a vehicle in its segment, such as the 5001-pound Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance, the Ioniq 5 N stops five feet sooner from 70 mph and six feet sooner from 100 mph. The Ioniq 5 N delivers mega performance for its price, but its driving range also isn't as penalized as one might expect. During its 75-mph highway range test, the Ioniq 5 N made it 190 miles on a full charge, only 20 miles fewer than the 320-hp AWD Ioniq 5 we tested on the same loop. The N's ability to quickly recharge fits its speedy persona too. In our DC fast-charge test, it took 35 minutes to recharge its 84.0-kWh battery from zero to 90 percent. We can't make any promises, but perhaps the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has a few hearts left to break at our next annual Lightning Lap track event. The EV6 GT ran VIR's 4.1-mile Grand Course with a 3:04.9. Hopefully, we get to find out. HOLY HYUNDAI, BATMAN! https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60659411/2025-hyundai-ioniq-5-n-quickest-korean-car-ever-tested/
  14. Aston Villa's defeat at Brighton left the door open for Spurs to make a late push for next season's Champions League but even a late comeback could not prevent a fourth successive defeat as Liverpool found form once more after their own recent slump. Mohamed Salah put his touchline bust-up with manager Jurgen Klopp at West Ham behind him to open the scoring with a far-post header from Cody Gakpo's cross after 16 minutes, Andy Robertson adding the second right on half-time when Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario could only push out the Egyptian's shot. Spurs lost discipline and Vicario had to separate team-mates Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal as they went off at half-time, with matters not improving for Ange Postecoglou's side as they were over-run after the break by a rampant Liverpool. Follow live text and radio coverage of Sunday's Premier League action How did you rate Liverpool's performance? Have your say here What did you make of Tottenham's display? Send us your views here Gakpo headed the third from Harvey Elliott's delivery five minutes after the interval, the latter getting on the scoresheet himself in the 59th minute with a glorious curling finish from 20 yards into the top corner. Liverpool then inexplicably switched off to allow substitute Richarlison and Heung-Min Son to give Spurs unlikely hope but it was too late and they remain seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with a game in hand. Liverpool rediscover cutting edge Liverpool may have ended this game, remarkably, with some anxiety around Anfield but for an hour they were back to their imperious, threatening best. Tottenham's two goals gave the scoreline a closer look than Liverpool's performance deserved but they were never in serious danger of giving up the victory. Salah had clearly recovered from his disagreement with manager Klopp at London Stadium as he led the charge by scoring the first goal and having an involvement in Robertson's second. It was Elliott, however, who was the star of Liverpool's show and as well as setting up the third for Gakpo he got the deserved reward of a goal of his own with a searing drive high past Vicario. Elsewhere, it was almost a dress rehearsal for Klopp's final game after a stellar nine-year reign when Wolves come to Anfield on the last day of the season. The German was serenaded throughout as The Kop went through his farewell songsheet, Klopp responding with trademark fist pumps in front of Liverpool's fans after a nervous finale ended with victory. Klopp was not whipping up the Kop for a final push for the Premier League title - that has gone after this season once held hopes of four trophies - but it certainly sets the scene for an emotional Anfield goodbye in a fortnight. Too little too late from Spurs Tottenham's abject display for the first hour raised the prospect of humiliation at Anfield, and while they salvaged a sliver of pride with a Richarlison-inspired closing 20 minutes this was another day of disappointment for Postecoglou and his players. As on so many occasions this season, Postecoglou's attacking approach left Spurs conceding too many chances and Liverpool followed recent opponents such as Newcastle United, Arsenal and Chelsea in taking full advantage. The underlying tensions and frustrations in the ranks were evident at half-time when it took a strong intervention from keeper Vicario to keep defenders Romero and Royal apart as they clashed walking off. It was when Richarlison, who may find himself surplus to Spurs' requirements in the summer, was introduced that a thoroughly one-sided game was turned on its head, the striker revelling in Anfield's insults for his Everton connections and causing constant problems. Spurs may have thought the most unlikely of comebacks was on for a few minutes after they scored twice but in reality they did not deserve anything from this game after the way Liverpool had dominated them and their Champions League hopes look very grim now. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68914707
  15. Look the part. If you know that you look like a confident, capable person, eventually you'll start to feel like a winner, too. You should dress how you feel best — not what you think confident is. Try these tricks: Devote a little time each day to personal hygiene and making sure you're presenting yourself well. Shower daily, brush and floss your teeth, and groom your skin and hair. Dress for confidence. You don't have to buy a whole new wardrobe to feel better in your clothes. As long as you're clean, comfortable, and feel good, you're set up for confidence! Remember, you look more confident when you are enjoying what you wear! Be careful not to base your confidence on your outside appearance. Practice wearing clothes that make you feel unconfident for a whole day and try feeling confidence without basing it on appearance. After all, you wouldn't wear a three-piece suit on a pizza delivery. If you think you look good, odds are you probably do. Perfect your posture. How you carry yourself communicates a lot to other people, so make sure you're telling them that you're confident and in-charge. Keep your shoulders back, your spine straight, and your chin high. Walk with purpose instead of dragging your feet, and sit up straight. When you look like a confident person on the outside, you'll be approached as one by the world around you. You won't only fool everyone else -- you'll fool yourself too. Recent research shows that the positioning of your body cues your mind to feel a certain way -- so positioning yourself confidently will make you genuinely feel in charge. And to top it off, having confident body language has been linked to lower levels of stress, too. [1] Smile. Keep your grin in easy reach -- you'd be surprised how even the smallest of smiles can disarm many a social situation and make everyone feel more comfortable. In fact, research shows that smiling reduces stress hormones in the brain. Can you imagine approaching someone who's scowling? No, thank you. If you're worried your smile is fake, keep it small. A fake smile can be spotted from a mile away. On the other hand, if you're genuinely happy to see them -- or just happy for the chance to practice your new confidence skills -- flash those pearly white teeth. https://www.wikihow.com/Be-Confident
  16. Sadiq Khan has won a third term as London’s mayor, capping a round of local elections across England that confirmed the political supremacy of the Labour Party and spelt misery for Britain’s Conservative government. Khan won 43.7% of the vote, beating Conservative challenger Susan Hall by about 11 percentage points to extend his control of the capital that began in 2016. It follows a string of victories around England for Labour, who are firmly positioned to take power from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his Conservatives in a general election in the coming months. The Conservatives lost control of 10 local councils and nearly 500 councilors on Thursday, suffering an electoral drubbing at the hands of the public that virtually everyone – including those within the party – had expected. Labour leader Keir Starmer told reporters on Saturday: “I am sorry, I don’t care which political party you support, if you leave your country in a worse state than when you found it 14 years later, you do not deserve to be in Government for a moment longer.” But Sunak likely found enough slender scraps of success to withstand a challenge to his leadership, which rebellious Tories had threatened depending on the outcome of Thursday’s elections. The party was hoping to keep hold of the mayoral position in the West Midlands on Saturday, after previously holding the same position in the Tees Valley, giving the increasingly beleaguered Sunak something to seize onto as he looks to at least unify his lawmakers in Westminster. Thursday’s polls marked a final dry run before the general election, which must take place by January. Sunak has resisted calls to outline when he will hold that vote, and Labour leads opinion polls by a huge margin. Starmer’s opposition party won control of eight councils, and also stormed to victory on Thursday in a Westminster by-election in Blackpool. The results confirmed the conventional polling narrative that the group is on track to win power, though Labour could not quite pull off the barnstorming red wave that some in the party had hoped for, falling short in some of the trickiest contests it faced. And there were indications too that discontent among the party’s position on Israel’s war in Gaza hurt Labour among voters in areas with large Muslim po[CENSORED]tions. In particular the loss of Oldham council, a north-west English town, where around a quarter of the po[CENSORED]tion is Muslim. “We do recognise the strength of feeling that there is and of course we will continue to work just as we do in every area across the country to earn votes back in future,” Labour’s shadow Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, told the BBC. If his victory is confirmed, Khan would become the first mayor of London to serve a third term since the post was created in 2000. The city, home to nine million people, is more multicultural, liberal and pro-European than the UK as a whole, leading Khan to occasionally clash with successive Labour leaders, especially over the issue of Brexit. He has prioritised emissions-cutting policies in an effort to shed the city’s reputation as a major polluter, and made international headlines during a long-running public spat with former US President Donald Trump during his administration. But critics have attacked Khan’s record on knife crime and his recent expansion of a world-first low-emissions zone, which the Conservatives said would hit poorer families in outer London the hardest. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/04/uk/sadiq-khan-london-mayor-election-gbr-intl/index.html

  20. No matter what type of site you want to make, your website should represent you or your business in the best light possible. This is often easier said than done; it’s not uncommon to get burn out when building a website from scratch or using a website builder. How to make a website from scratch Decide what type of website you want to make Choose your website builder Pick your template Customize your template to your brand Build your site structure Add your pages Fill your pages with engaging content Find and purchase a domain name Review and publish Promote your website Establish healthy site maintenance habits 01. Decide what type of website you want to make Any website you create begins with a clear website goal and target audience. By identifying your niche and purpose, you can take steps towards building a site that not only looks pretty but performs as you hope it will. Everything from your site layout to content should ladder up to your intended impact. For example, a portfolio website will naturally look different from an online store. A portfolio will include pages showcasing your work and a prominent “Contact Me” form—whereas an online store will have product pages, payment pages and maybe even print-on-demand integrations that are intended to monetize your website. Depending on your goals, there are different types of websites that you may want to consider creating and various elements worth adding to your site: Blog eCommerce Photo gallery Social media links Online store Chat feature Members area Privacy Policy Event website (including a wedding website) Nonprofit website Note that one site may serve multiple purposes—in which case, you'll want to be very clear about the primary goal of your site. For example, Cleverchefs' catering company uses its site to share its brand story. While the site serves to attract new bookings, its main focus is to educate existing prospects on what sets Cleverchefs apart. Since their website represents the ethos of their company so well, it has become an incredibly helpful tool in closing clients who share similar values and appreciate what they do. Expert tip from business owner Nick Collins, founder of Cleverchefs When I ask my clients why they chose us over our competitors, they usually say it's because of our website. I think they can really feel our passion through the way we connect with them and stand out as a creative catering company. how to build a cosmetics website from scratch 02. Choose your website builder A website builder is a po[CENSORED]r and affordable solution that enables you to setup, design, personalize, publish and manage a website without having to use code. The best platforms help you get a site setup and launched quicker and without fuss—while also offering 24/7 support and built-in features that make scaling easier. Expert tip from Esin D. Habif, product marketing lead (outbound) at Wix.com What often gets forgotten when talking about choosing a website builder is the capabilities of the infrastructure that’s promised to you—the reliability of the hosting, the level of security that’s in order to protect your visitor’s data, and of course your site's speed. Even if infrastructure is not the first thought that comes to mind when it comes to making a website, if it’s not robust enough, it can cause large headaches for website owners when trying to scale a website later on. With the right website builder, you won’t have to deal with the mountains of minutia that other DIY site owners may face (e.g., installing security features by hand, fixing bugs on your own, etc.). Low-code-no-code software takes care of web development for you, so you don't need to know how to code to customize your site. Modern-day website builders will also include AI-powered capabilities, allowing you to work faster and smarter than ever. That said, while there are several solid players in this website-building industry, you’ll want to make sure that you do your due diligence before investing in one. Making the wrong choice could leave you with serious regrets down the road. Sign up for Wix today. Here are some key factors to consider so that you end up with a website builder you love: Customizability: A good website builder should offer the customization you need to start and design your website according to your unique brand and vision. For example, do you envision creating a static website or a dynamic one? Look for builders that offer a range of layout options, as well as the flexibility to tweak the design and functionality to your liking. Wix, for instance, offers hundreds of designer-made templates in addition to AI-powered site creation that can be easily modified for your brand. Furthermore, its WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor lets you preview your changes in real time as you go. Back-office tools/business capabilities: Beyond just website design, when it comes to starting a website, a website builder should provide the back-office tools that you need. This might include features like eCommerce functionality if you need to create your own eCommerce website, inventory management, appointment scheduling and customer relationship management (CRM) tools. Create your list of must-haves and the tasks that need automating as you evaluate your options. AI capabilities: AI is all the rage these days—and for good reason. When you’ve got a full-time job or business to run, AI tools can simplify the process of creating and maintaining your website. For example, Wix’s AI site builder can help you produce a fully functional website in minutes. It makes sophisticated decisions on your behalf regarding your web design, site copy and user experience, while setting you up with the right business apps; you can always edit your site as desired, but can save yourself hours of setup time.” Third-party integrations: Chances are, you already have a favorite platform for emails, advertising or other functions—or perhaps you’re a retailer who wants to expand to new sales channels like Amazon. Seek website builders that integrate with your favorite tools and channels, or that offer sufficient alternatives. Explore your options in marketplaces like Wix’s App Market. (Note that you can also use Wix Headless to access Wix tools from any application.) Security: Website security is paramount to protect your site and user data. A reliable website builder should offer security features like SSL certificates, regular backups and security monitoring to safeguard against cyber threats and data breaches. Speed: Website loading speed significantly impacts user experience and SEO rankings. Choose a website builder known for fast-loading websites. Look for built-in capabilities like content delivery networks (CDNs), which speed up content delivery; streamlined code; and image compression. Reliability: A reliable website builder should provide consistent uptime and minimal downtime. Read reviews and check the builder's uptime statistics to give yourself peace of mind knowing that your website will be accessible to visitors around the clock. Hosting: Many website builders offer web hosting services as part of their packages. Evaluate the hosting infrastructure, including server locations, scalability and performance, to ensure that it aligns with your website's needs. Support: Most of us don’t realize how important support is until it’s dire. As you evaluate your options, you’ll want to check that customer care is accessible in your time zone and that you can resolve issues before they snowball. Look for website builders that offer various support channels, including a knowledge base and self-help resources. For example, Wix has a 24/7 support team as well as a robust library of how-to articles, YouTube videos and communities to help you find whatever answers you’re looking for. Expert tip from Esin D. Habif, product marketing lead (outbound) at Wix.com As a creator or entrepreneur, you're often wearing multiple hats. You're designing the website, you're optimizing for SEO. This means you need a website builder that makes it easy and very learnable for you to do all of those things, on the same platform and still deliver as if working with experts in those fields. 03. Pick your template The visual layout of your website is its most important element. You’ll want to take your time exploring your options before settling on the visual imagery and design. To get started, take a look at this database of professional website templates to see which one fits your vision best. Whether you’re looking for portfolio templates, model portfolio examples or templates for an online store, there are dozens of customizable options to choose from. These range from simple website templates to more complex ones. As you plan out your site, note what your competitor sites look like and check out other visual platforms, like Pinterest and Instagram. All of these examples will provide insight into what fonts, colors and web design styles and trends your audience gravitates towards. However, avoid copying what’s already been done. Rather, gain an understanding of the visual language you want to pursue and check that it resonates with your intended audience. Expert tip from Anna Suntsov, blog and social team lead at Wix.com The most important thing before building a website is good research. Customize your template to your brand Your website is the face of your personal or business brand and is often the first touchpoint that people have with you, so you’ll want to make sure that it's uniquely yours. Before you get lost in the details, establish clear branding guidelines to keep your anchored. These guidelines should shape your site design—as well as the nitty-gritty details like the tone of your microcopy, your logo placement and the color of your buttons. A great way to get started is by creating a simple idea map with a pen and paper. In the center of your map, write down the type of site you plan to make. Think about the words and phrases that describe the vibe you’re going for. Write each phrase in separate circles stemming from your initial idea. Once you’ve broken down your brand into individual components, it will be much easier to tackle larger tasks. Reflect on this map as you design your first logo or ruminate on the right types of imagery to include on your site. Remember, a well-designed website is visually appealing, easy to navigate and aligned with your brand identity. Taking the time to get this right can pay dividends in the long run. From a more tactical perspective, here are several steps you’ll want to take when personalizing your site. Craft a website color theme The use of color is not only for making your site look nice. Your color palette should align with your brand identity. Color psychology is important to take into consideration, as colors have the power to affect and evoke specific emotions and behaviors. For example, blue has become a common color used in branding corporations and businesses, particularly in the tech field—most likely because blue is associated with stability and reliability. However, blue can also reflect sadness, hence the term “feeling blue.” Orange, for example, is generally paired with feelings of freshness and vitality. Keep in mind that the feeling correlated with a color also depends on the shade and what other colors it’s paired with. These are both important points to consider when choosing your website color scheme. create a website from scratch sample To get started, consider your website goals. Think about the vibe you want to create and the emotions you want to convey, especially if you’re starting a business. The more aligned your web design is with your overall branding, the more people are going to connect with your company and your website. And the stronger the personal connection, the more time they’ll spend on your site. This will have enormous effects on conversion rates and overall interest and engagement with your brand. Keep in mind, choosing your color theme doesn’t mean you’re stuck with that palette forever, so try out different options and see what speaks to you. With Wix, for example, you can adjust your site’s colors at any point by clicking on the Site Design icon on the left side of your editing screen. From there, you can choose your base colors, accent colors, text colors and more. color theme picker in wix Pick the right web fonts Just like colors, typography can also play a key role in evoking feelings. When choosing the best fonts for your website, there are a number of things to consider. First, like all other elements on your site, your font choice should match your branding. Browse different typefaces to find one that reflects your unique personality, whether you’re youthful and contemporary or have a more traditional approach. The three primary types of fonts include: Serif: Fonts with a small line attached to the ends of each letter. Build your site structure A pretty site means nothing if it’s clunky and difficult to navigate. Before releasing your site to the world, check that your site makes it easy for visitors to find the exact pages that they’re looking for. There are several main components to bear in mind, as listed below. Create your sitemap Your sitemap is the blueprint of your site’s architecture. It includes all the pages and content you plan to create, so web crawlers like Google can better find and understand your pages. A sitemap typically needs updating whenever you add pages or move pages around, but systems like Wix automatically create and update your sitemap for you. Optimize your navigation menu Your navigation menu guides your human visitors to the right pages on your site. It’s usually displayed as a horizontal or vertical bar on your site with links to several different pages. As a general rule of thumb, your site should be organized in a way that enables a visitor to move from one page to another in three clicks or less. But your main menu does not—and should not have to—include all of your site pages. Link to the most important or po[CENSORED]r pages from here, and provide an easy way for visitors to get back to where they started. (One of the best ways of achieving this is by adding a clickable logo at the top of your page that leads visitors back to the homepage.) Check how your favorite sites design their navigation menus for inspiration. You may, for instance, want to include a mega menu that’s more visual in nature and allows users to hover over a main menu category to see subcategories of links. Alternatively, if you’re creating a simple website with fewer pages, you can have a simple anchor menu at the top of your page that links to specific pages or specific sections on a page. You’ll also want to spend time optimizing a mobile version of your menu to make sure everything translates clearly to phones and tablets. To set up a menu in the Wix editor, just head to your side panel on the left side of the editor and click on “+” at the top of the panel to add an element. Then, select "Menu & Anchor" from the drop-down and choose your desired style. Menus and anchors option in Wix Expert tip from Adi Huri, product manager at WOW for Wix.com Keep in mind that the menu is the map of your website. By adding the right pages to your menu, in the right order, it can be the heart of your website’s success. Don’t ignore your footer While your navigation menu is the primary navigation tool visitors will use to traverse your site, you can use your footer strategically to provide additional links and information. Your footer offers prime real estate to reinforce important content or show other areas of your site that your main menu doesn’t cover (think: contact information and direct links to your social media profiles). In the Wix editor, you can easily drag and drop widgets and other elements directly into the footer. You can also easily adjust its size by dragging the border up or down. 06. Add your pages Once you’ve mapped out what pages you want on your site, it’s time to create them. Here’s a quick step-by-step of how to do it in the Wix editor. Open Page Manager: Click the "Pages & Menu" icon in the left side panel to access the Page Manager. Add page: Click the blue "+ Add Page" button to create a new page and click on whatever template suits your needs. Name your page: Once the page is added to your site, the page name will be highlighted in the left side panel for you to edit. Customize: Customize the newly created page by adding your content, adjusting the layout and refining the design. Manage pages: Drag and drop pages in the side panel to rearrange them or click on the ellipsis icon to the right of each page title to duplicate, delete, rename, hide and more. Subpages: Create dropdown menus by adding subpages to your main pages, enhancing site navigation. Save and publish: Save your work regularly and, when ready, hit the "Publish" button to make your changes live on your website. option to add page in wix When designing web pages for your professional website, consider adding these pages: An inviting homepage. This is the face of your website, which means that you have to make it beautiful, yet informational. You should strive to present all the crucial elements right from the get-go. This way, clients will instantly understand who you are and what you do. A shop or gallery. This is the center of your site where visitors can browse through your products or services. Create product listings, manage inventory and process transactions all from one centralized dashboard. Dedicate time to write product descriptions that will grab potential customers’ attention. The same goes for your product photography to ensure that your items are displayed in their very best light. A personable About page. Use this page as your online business card. It’s the spot where you can present who you are, what you stand for, your strengths, values and any other crucial information you think your visitors should know about your team and your business. An easy-to-find contact section. Don’t leave your site visitors astray by making them search for your contact information. Dedicate a page to list contact numbers, email, social links and any other way users can get in touch with you. In addition, it’s a good practice to add your essential contact details on your website footer. An engaging blog. By starting a blog, you’ll be able to continuously add regular and fresh content to your website. You’ll have the chance to establish yourself as an expert in your field while giving your SEO efforts a well-deserved boost. Give our blog maker a go, when you're ready to start. po[CENSORED]r types of web pages Expert tip from Allison Lee, editor-in-chief at Wix.com Blogs don’t get enough credit for their long-term advantages. In the long run, a blog can serve as a huge traffic driver and a way to connect with future customers (case in point: our Wix Blog is the first touchpoint for millions of people who may have never stumbled onto our site otherwise). That said, a blog is a long-term commitment—it requires a well thought-out strategy and consistent maintenance. An interactive membership area. Creating a membership area on your website serves the dual purpose of monetization and user engagement. Various membership models, like drip-feed, all-in and fixed-term, can be employed to monetize your content. You can also offer premium content, online services or downloadable materials as incentives for users to subscribe. Easy-to-access online courses. The growing po[CENSORED]rity of virtual classes presents an opportunity to generate income by launching a paid online course. This approach allows you to monetize your existing website traffic. Design courses that align with your expertise and cater to your audience's needs. Ensure the content is relevant and unique. An informative FAQ page. Save yourself and your clients some time (and frustration) by including an FAQ page to provide answers to questions that may naturally come up as visitors browse your site. An online booking system. Allow customers to schedule and pay for appointments or classes directly from your site. This way, you can spend less time playing phone tag and more time growing your empire. A testimonials page. This provides you with the perfect place in which previous, satisfied customers can sing your praises. Nothing is more impressive to a potential client or buyer than positive, unbiased reviews. 07. Fill your pages with engaging content As people interact with your website, you'll want to make sure you're grabbing their attention and keeping it. The best way to do this is by optimizing and diversifying how you relay information. Start by thinking about the various types of content you can host on your website. There's text, photography, videos, animation and so much more. Once you have a grasp on all of your options, it’s time to decide how to organize it. Consider your content hierarchy For your visitors to feel comfortable and at home while browsing, it’s important to keep your site as organized as possible. Think about hierarchy here: you’ll want your most eye-catching and important content to be placed above the fold (in other words, the area that’s visible on your website without visitors having to scroll). Expert top tip from Amanda Weiner, CRO expert at Wix.com Site hierarchy and the information you provide your visitors with is more than just how your site looks. This will also directly impact how many visitors ultimately buy your products. You’ll want to be clear about your offerings through your content, your visuals and your buttons right from the get go to ensure visitors recognize your value right away. Furthermore, take note that some of your readers are only skimming your content. To make their lives easier and to make your content stand out, consider how you can optimize your design so your audience can get the most out of your content. To do so, consider which written information can be made more digestible and visual with the use of media features (videos, images and animations, infographics for example). Make certain headers and other important bits of information stand out more than others by opting for a larger font or a bright color that contrasts with the background. Consider SEO Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the practice of optimizing your site so your pages can rank higher on search engine result pages. When launching a new website from scratch, it’s vital to set your site up for success so it can be found by Google. The more exposure you get, the more likely it is for prospective clients to find your site and book your services, buy your products or read your blog. Expert tip from Mordy Oberstein, head of SEO branding at Wix.com Leveraging SEO and integrating it into the website creation process is vital. Various studies have shown that organic search is the single greatest provider of traffic to websites - with that being even more pronounced within the B2B context. To that, traffic from organic search, when done correctly is essentially built to last (with proper maintenance over time, of course) and forms a crucial part of a site’s long-term growth. Enhancing your website's visibility on search engines like Google is essential for driving organic traffic to your pages. Fortunately, every Wix site starts out with a solid infrastructure that already exceeds the needs of search engines, giving you a strong SEO foundation in organic search. From there, Wix SEO tools make it easy for you to optimize your reach even further. Capabilities include: SEO Assistant: Every Wix site comes with an SEO Assistant. Just put in your focus keywords for the page you’re working on, and your SEO Assistant will tell you if there’s anything you can do to further optimize it. Backlink tracking: Keep an eye on your backlink profile to improve your site's authority. You’ll also have the ability to utilize additional SEO tools like Ahrefs and Semrush. Consider the mobile experience As you build your site, keep in mind that a significant amount of consumers will be visiting your site from their smartphones. In fact, as of April 2021, over 50% of internet use comes from cell phones and tablets. It’s because of this that Google established mobile-first indexing, a system in which the search engine predominantly determines website ranking based on mobile websites, not desktop. As mobile web surfing becomes even more entrenched in our culture, it’s essential to invest time in mobile features as well as design to provide a smooth, intuitive user experience for those smaller screens. Whatever website creation platform you choose, make sure it has a mobile editor and the ability to adjust elements for mobile without it affecting the desktop version. You’ll also want a website builder that prioritizes performance and site speed. For example, Wix deploys performance-friendly website infrastructure, such as cache and lazy loading, to ensure faster sites. Once you're done with your site and happy with it, you may want to consider making your website an app as well. Learn more: How to make a website mobile-friendly example of a mobile site 08. Find and purchase a domain name Now comes one of the most exciting parts of making a website—choosing a domain name. Your domain is like your website’s address and permanent home on the web. When an internet user enters your domain name, or website URL into a web browser, it connects with a web server who identifies your domain by its IP address and then delivers your site to the user. This process is also referred to as a Domain Name System. Choosing a domain name doesn’t need to be too complex. While your name needs to be memorable and unique, domains (top-level domains) and subdomains typically include the name of your website and/or the name of your business followed by an extension like .com or .org. If you are struggling to come up with the perfect name for your business, try a website name generator to help get the ball rolling. All domain names must be registered with a domain name registrar or registry, where the owners of any domain name can be searched and found. You'll also need to consider what domain extension you want to use: .de domain .xyz domain .co domain .ch domain .be domain .store domain .info domain .tv domain .company domain .digital domain .ca domain .fr domain Website creators like Wix offer free domain names with a premium website building plan. This is advantageous because it will improve your website’s credibility to both people and search engines. It will show visitors that you’re a professional, trusted brand and allows people to find you more easily online. After choosing a domain name, you'll next need to consider your web hosting service options. From shared hosting to cloud hosting, there are several different hosted services to choose from. Wix sites all come with reliable and secure hosting for high uptime on all user sites. Learn more: Website name ideas 09. Review and publish Building a website from scratch can be an exciting journey, but rushing through the process is a common pitfall. In an eagerness to go live, many often overlook critical elements, potentially harming their website's performance and user experience. Avoid this situation. Make sure to dot your Is and cross your Ts before publishing. Here are some key tips to help you out: Resist the urge to skimp on planning. Outlining how to plan a website is the foundation of a successful website strategy. Take the time to clearly define your website's purpose, target audience and content strategy. Mapping out your site structure and creating a content calendar will help you stay organized. Rushing into design and content creation without a plan can lead to a disjointed website that confuses visitors. Take advantage of features like Wix’s “Site Preview” mode, which allows you to view and navigate your site as a user. This enables you to experience the user journey of navigating your site and flag issues a user might encounter. Make sure to test all pages, links and embedded media in addition to spell-checking content. Do this on desktop and mobile view. Get a fresh pair of eyes to review your work. Ask a friend or colleague to take a look at your website and give you notes on initial impressions, user experience, clarity of content and effectiveness of the design. This step is imperative as someone less familiar with your content will be a much better barometer for how a new visitor would navigate your website. Don’t forget about SEO. Rushing through SEO or ignoring it altogether can hinder your website's discoverability. Research relevant keywords for your niche, optimize meta titles and descriptions and regularly create fresh, valuable content. Ignoring SEO or rushing through it can result in your site not ranking well on search engine results pages, which can significantly hamper its visibility and, consequently, its success. build a website from scratch (home decor example) 10. Promote your website Once your website is live, you need to let people know about it. You can promote your website through social media, email marketing, guest blogging or outreach marketing. Effective promotion ensures that your website reaches the right people and delivers the desired outcomes—whether you’re aiming to increase traffic, engagement or sales. Expert tip from Lilach Goldis, social media marketing manager at Wix.com Identify the social media platforms your audience is active on the most and get an in-depth understanding of what it takes to rank in them. For example, converting your Instagram carousel posts into a Reel can capture attention more effectively and boost your content's impact, ultimately leading people to visit your site. Here are some ways Wix can help you get your site out there: SEO: In case we haven’t said it enough, SEO is imperative. For those less familiar with SEO, SEO is basically the practice of optimizing your site to help it rank better on Google and other search engines, which, in turn, bring you more web traffic. This is a crucial step in ensuring your site's success once it’s published. Although SEO is very technical and nuanced, using the right website builder can streamline the entire process. You can get an automatically optimized site with a solid infrastructure that exceeds search engine standards, alongside a suite of SEO tools. For example, Wix’s SEO Assistant gives you a personalized SEO setup plan for your site. It can make suggestions on how to tweak your content and provide explanations as to how these changes may help your rankings. For the more advanced user, Wix offers other SEO tools including a robots.txt editor, dynamic XML sitemaps and customizable canonical tags (among others). Keep in mind, however, that it takes time (and regular investment) to see the results of SEO, and your site may not rank well immediately. Email marketing: Whether you're an eCommerce business, a blogger or an entrepreneur, it’s essential to build and maintain strong customer relationships. Email marketing tools enable you to create and send professional email campaigns to your subscribers and drive traffic to your site. Send newsletters, promote new products, create trigger emails and share exciting updates with your audience. Blogs: Blogging is a powerful content marketing strategy. With SEO-rich blogging capabilities, you can create and publish engaging blog posts that not only captivate your audience but also rank well in search engine results. When selecting your website builder, look for built-in SEO features to ensure your blogs are optimized for maximum visibility. Advertising: Unlike SEO which takes time to yield results, ads can help drive immediate attention to your site. It’s worth experimenting with Google Ads, Facebook Ads and others—but avoid spreading yourself too thin. Use the tools at your disposal in your website builder, and test different targeting and campaign types. For example, you could use Instagram ads to retarget website visitors, in addition to Google search ads to engage new visitors who are searching for sites like yours. 11. Establish healthy site maintenance habits Much like a work of art, a website is never truly "finished." It's an ever-evolving entity that demands regular attention to maintain peak performance. One of the primary advantages of using a website builder to create your site is that you can easily make additions and changes as needed in real time. By following these best practices, you can maintain a site that not only survives—but thrives—in the competitive digital landscape. Keep your website updated. Your website can quickly become outdated over time, from its design to your keyword targeting and overall SEO strategy. Often, website designers find that they need to provide easier navigation with better bounce rates and other important site metrics. This is particularly important if you have found that sales on your online store are decreasing. Update your website as part of your website management strategy by adding new content regularly and making sure that your existing content is up-to-date. Monitor your website traffic. Every published Wix website has Wix Analytics included in the Dashboard, which gives you actionable information about your website. Learn which content is working best and how your visitors behave, then use these insights to act. This information can help you improve your website and make it more user-friendly. Secure your website. It's important to keep your website secure from hackers and malware. You can do this by installing security software and by keeping your website's software up to date. It's also crucial to use a platform that thoroughly incorporates website security such as Wix, which provides a safe foundation for your website and gathers real-time insights to detect any threats. Back up your website. It's always a good idea to back up your website regularly. This way, if something happens to your website, you can restore it from a backup. Wix has a feature called Site History, which automatically creates site revisions every time you save or publish. This means that you can go back to a previous version of your site any time you want. You can also duplicate your site at any time to create a manual backup in your Wix account. Be aware that the duplicated site is not automatically updated when you update your original site. how to make a website How to make a website with AI Making or designing a website with AI involves using artificial intelligence tools and services to enhance different aspects of your site, such as design, content creation or user interaction.
