  1. · Hyundai Motorstudio Busan will offer content and experiences that reflect how great design enriches our everyday lives under its theme · ‘Reflections in Motion’, the Motorstudio’s debut design exhibition, invites visitors to discover and reflect on the interaction between time and design · The new Motorstudio will also feature ‘Run Forever’, a digital media artwork by Universal Everything that explores Hyundai Motor’s work in future mobility and sustainability SEOUL, April 8, 2021 — Hyundai Motorstudio Busan has been inaugurated today in South Korea, serving as a dazzling place for catalyzing customer engagement and highlighting the company's unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of design. Located in the country’s second-largest and seaside city of Busan, the venue is the sixth of its kind joining others in Seoul, Goyang, and Hanam in Korea as well as Beijing and Moscow. It is themed on the concept of ‘Design to Live by’ that explores how great design inspires and enriches people’s daily lives. As a theater for illuminating Hyundai Motor’s bold design commitments, the brand new space will attempt to spark visitors’ imaginations with a year-round plethora of artistic approaches that attempt to break the traditional conceptions and confines of design for automotive and other industries. The new brand space is located in Busan’s F1963, a former wire rope factory run by Kiswire that transformed into an art and culture complex after holding the Busan Biennale in 2016. The five-story brand space was designed by renowned architect Choi Wook, head of ONE O ONE Architects, who used wires and steel frames as key elements of the architectural design and function — inspired by F1963’s history as a wire rope factory. “Hyundai Motorstudio is a space that allows customers to experience our brand through a variety of arts and cultural activities that reflect our brand identity and vision,” said Cornelia Schneider, Vice President and Head of Global Experiential Marketing at Hyundai Motor. “We hope visitors to Hyundai Motorstudio Busan will enjoy exploring the power of design by participating in the process of its making and see how it reinvents our everyday lives.” In celebration of its official debut, Hyundai Motorstudio Busan will showcase its first design exhibition, ‘Reflections in Motion’ from April 8 to June 27, inviting visitors to explore and reflect on the interaction between time and design, in the context of Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’. The exhibition examines the dual meaning of ‘reflection’ in the context of design. First is the process — from the first sketch to the finished product — in which the designer reflects his or her environment to create a new design. Second is the artistic, poetic design experience at various touchpoints, representing reflections on the present. ‘Reflections in Motion’ is a design experience for all senses, providing interaction and movement while playing with color, material, form, light, and shadow.
  3. Human rights groups in Pakistan have accused Prime Minister Imran Khan of being a "rape apologist" after he blamed a rise in sexual assault cases on how women dress. During a live television interview, he advised women to cover up to prevent temptation. Mr Khan added "in any society where vulgarity is prevalent, there are consequences." Hundreds of people have signed a statement demanding an apology. Pakistan is ranked as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for women in terms of safety and equality. Sexual abuse, so-called "honour" killings and forced marriage are common, and criminal complaints are rarely reported to police, or seriously investigated. What did Imran Khan say? In a two-hour-long, question-and-answer interview with the public on live television, Imran Khan was asked what steps his government had taken to prevent sexual abuse. After denouncing crimes against women and children, he said that sexual violence was a result of "increasing obscenity", adding it was a product of India, the West and Hollywood movies. The girl paraded naked for 'honour' How a rape was filmed and shared in Pakistan The prime minister said women in Pakistan should remove "temptation" because "not everyone has willpower". He said women should observe purdah - a term referring to women wearing modest clothes around men or segregation between sexes.
  4. This marks just the second time we've spotted this curious crossover from Jeep, but these fresh spy photos serve an important purpose. Our first glimpse caught a vehicle draped in heavy camouflage, but now we can clearly see Jeep's seven-bar grille behind lighter covers. We also easily see the stretched backside of this compact CUV which hides a third row of seats. But don't call it a Grand Compass, or even a Compass for that matter. There's still much we don't know about this new seven-seater, but we do know it's basically a stretched Compass despite the name game. Our sources say it's based on the current Compass, and it will share design cues both inside and out with the familiar two-row model. It won't be a carbon copy – we can see shades of the new Grand Cherokee peaking through the front-end camouflage, specifically with the LED lamps at the corners of the front fascia. The wheel arches have the chunky Compass shape, however, and looking very closely at the back, we can make out the up-angled D-pillar glass that's also a Compass trademark. Under the hood, we're hearing this seven-seater could get a turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel good for approximately 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts), turning all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive models could have a smaller turbocharged 1.3-liter gasoline mill making 180 hp (134 kW), also using the nine-speed auto. If some of this sounds familiar, the current Compass offers 180 hp and a nine-speed transmission, though it uses a 2.4-liter engine.
  5. The winner of Sri Lanka's biggest beauty prize has suffered head injuries after a brawl broke out on stage. Beauty queen Pushpika De Silva won the "Mrs Sri Lanka" title at a ceremony on national TV on Sunday. Moments later, the 2019 winner seized Ms De Silva's crown, claiming she could not be awarded the title because she was divorced. The prize has now been returned to Ms De Silva, after pageant organisers confirmed she is not a divorcee. Judges named Ms De Silva the 2021 winner at the Mrs Sri Lanka final in a theatre in Colombo on Sunday night. But the 2019 winner, Caroline Jurie, stripped Ms De Silva of her crown, citing a pageant rule that competitors must be married and not divorced. "There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced, so I am taking steps to make the crown go to second place," Ms Jurie told the audience. She placed the crown on the runner-up, prompting a tearful Ms De Silva to walk off stage, a video of the incident showed.

  8. The SUV version of the GMC Hummer EV will join the pickup in 2023 as a 2024 model. It's shorter and less powerful than the truck, but it still has the same dominant presence with 35-inch tires, bulging fenders, and an optional air suspension that can raise it six inches. Think of it as an electric Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco, but much larger and in a considerably higher price bracket. The ultra-loaded Edition 1 model will arrive first, finished in Moonshot Green Matte (pictured), starting at $105,595, to coincide with the release of the pickup version. These new electric Hummers won't be alone in the marketplace, though, because the Rivian R1T pickup and R1S SUV go on sale later this year. The Hummer SUV might be smaller than the massive pickup, but it's still five inches taller than a Chevrolet Tahoe. It's shorter than many three-row SUVs, though, being closer in length to the Land Rover Range Rover. It's much larger than other two-row off-road SUVs including the Wrangler and Bronco. The full-size spare tire mounted to the power swing-out tailgate does give it a similar 4x4 vibe to those off-roaders, though. Cargo volume with the rear seats folded is a massive 82 cubic feet—that's between the capability of a Tahoe and a Suburban with both the second and third rows folded—and there's additional storage under the load floor.
  9. At least 101 people have died after flash floods and landslides hit Indonesia and East Timor on Sunday. Torrential rain sparked widespread destruction in the South East Asian neighbours, with water from overflowing dams submerging thousands of homes. The affected area stretches from Flores island in eastern Indonesia to East Timor. In Indonesia alone, 80 people have died with dozens still missing. Officials warn the toll could still rise. "The mud and the extreme weather have become a serious challenge and the debris piling up has hampered the search and rescue team," Indonesian Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesperson Raditya Djati told reporters. "We suspect many people are buried but it's not clear how many are missing," his colleague Alfons Hada Bethan, head of the East Flores disaster agency, said. "The evacuees are spread out. There are hundreds in each sub district but many others are staying at home. They need medicine, food, blankets." Indonesia finds voice recorder from crashed plane Massive fire rages at Indonesian oil refinery Suicide bomb attack targets Indonesian church At least 21 people have also died in East Timor, also known as Timor Leste, news agencies quoted officials in the island nation as saying. Many of the victims are believed to be from the country's capital Dili. Indonesian president Joko Widodo has offered his condolences and urged people to follow the advice from officials during extreme weather periods. "I have ordered for disaster relief efforts to be conducted quickly and well, for example for health service assistance, availability of logistics and basic needs for the displaced and the reparation of infrastructure," he said.

  12. The government is to trial a series of measures in England, including Covid passports, to allow the safe return of sports matches, events and nightclubs. Passes would show if a person had been vaccinated, had a recent negative test, or natural immunity. Trial events in the coming months will also explore how ventilation and testing before and after could help crowds return. Any use of passes would be "time-limited", the sports minister has said. The pilots, which will include the FA Cup final, will last until mid-May, and some of the listed events will not be trialling vaccination certification, including those taking place in Liverpool. Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston described the trials as a "learning experience", saying no decisions had yet been made on processes or vaccination certificates. He said the earlier pilots "almost certainly won't involve any element of certification", and that the government would also be looking at mitigations such as one way systems and hygiene measures. Mr Huddleston said the PM would receive a report on the trials at the end of May, and suggested further events could be added later in the year. Meanwhile, Downing Street has confirmed countries will be in a risk-based "traffic light" system when foreign holidays resume.

  14. Mercedes-Benz shares with us new information and photos of the new generation SL model. The German company confirmed that the new SL has entered the final phase of testing … The latest photos were taken in snowy Sweden, after which engineers and test drivers will continue their program on the famous Nürburgring. In the photos, the new SL has a milder camouflage, which reveals more design details. Based on what we can see in the photos, it is not difficult to conclude that the new SL will resemble the AMG GT roadster in its appearance. This is not surprising, considering that the development of this model was completely entrusted to the AMG division. The topic of testing in Sweden was the 4Matic + all-wheel-drive system, which will be built into this model for the first time. What is interesting is the red canvas of the car, which is electrically controlled.
  16. it started with Zac Efron. Then Mark Wahlberg flew over, Matt Damon jetted in, and dozens of other celebrities followed - all to set up temporary homes in Australia. More recently, Julia Roberts touched down. She's due to film a movie here with George Clooney later this year, one rather aptly titled Ticket to Paradise. Because amid the pandemic, it does appear that half of Hollywood has fled to Australia, viewing it as a Covid-free idyll. Life is good in a country that's largely eliminated the virus - people are freely enjoying beaches, bars, and nightclubs. Most of the famous arrivals are here to work. Australia's government has lured over productions like the next Thor film with tax breaks That's led to a bonanza of celebrity sightings, particularly in Sydney: There's Idris Elba showing up on a concert stage; Natalie Portman buying groceries in Bondi; Chris Pratt partying in a hotel; and Efron lunching at a Korean barbecue restaurant in Chinatown. The visitor book also includes Awkwafina, Ed Sheeran, Jane Seymour, Melissa McCarthy, Michelle Ye, Paul Mescal, Rita Ora, Ron Howard, Taika Waititi, Tessa Thompson, Tilda Swinton, Tom Hanks and Lord Alan Sugar. There's also the Australian stars who've come home: Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Kylie and Danni Minogue, Rose Byrne, Isla Fisher and her British husband Sacha Baron Cohen.

  19. Lexus has been quite artistic lately. The proof is this Wax Edition project, which was created in collaboration with the creative studio SCPS from Los Angeles. The biggest challenge was definitely overcoming the vibrations while driving, and a large part of the elements of the gramophone was made with 3D printing. In the end, the problem was solved by installing special shock absorbers, which up to 130 km / h achieve the desired effect.
  20. By the middle of February, health workers at an expansive hospital in western India were beginning to believe that the coronavirus pandemic's deadly surge was rapidly easing. There were only 28 patients in the Covid-19 ward of the 1,000-bed non-profit Kasturba Hospital in Wardha, Maharashtra - down from 180 patients at the peak of the pandemic last summer. The intensive care unit (ICU) was empty for the first time in months. A third of the 300 beds in the Covid-19 ward had been moved out to other wards to accommodate patients suffering from other diseases. There had been a sharp drop in reported infections countrywide and Wardha was no exception. In most cities, life was returning to normal. Healthcare workers and frontline staff had begun receiving jabs of the coronavirus vaccine. At the Kasturba Hospital, health workers had endured a gruelling year - as many as 70 of them had been infected by the virus, and many others had suffered crippling fatigue and burnout. But the sense of relief among the 650 doctors and nurses turned out to be cruelly short-lived. "Our celebrations were premature," Dr SP Kalantri, medical superintendent of the hospital, told me. India's second wave has not spared this hospital, some 50 miles (80km) south-west of Nagpur, one of India's worst-hit cities.
