The final details are being sorted for the ex-Aston Villa boss to replace Daniel Farke, who was sacked by the Canaries last Saturday. Craig Shakespeare, who worked with Smith at Villa, is expected to be his assistant, and an announcement should be made on Sunday or Monday. Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had withdrawn from the running for the vacancy. Norwich's next Premier League game is at home to Southampton on 20 November. The Canaries are bottom of the Premier League after gaining just five points from 11 games. Smith is set for a swift return to the dugout, having been sacked by Villa on 7 November after three years in charge following a defeat to the Saints. He led them to promotion from the Championship in his first season in charge, the Carabao Cup final in 2019-20 and an 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59272851

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After experiencing our first pandemic holiday season last year, consumers learned to be flexible and alter the way they shopped and entertained. This year, the holidays continue to be impacted by the pandemic with supply chain disruptions and delivery delays around the country. If you have not finalized your holiday plans, you can still take advantage of discounts for entertaining, gift shopping, delivery options, and special services like curbside pick-up. The key, however, is to start formulating a strategy now. I was able to speak with lifestyle expert, Trae Bodge, who shared a few tips to help us all get through shopping for the holidays. TOPEKA (KSNT)-- Many people saw snow flurries in Northeast Kansas Friday, getting people to bring out the winter coats and turn up the thermostat. But, winter weather doesn't always have to mean a higher energy bill. Evergy spokesperson Andrew Baker said that it can mean quite the opposite. He said there are many different things you can do around your home to lower the energy you consume on a daily basis. https://fox4kc.com/great-day-kc/make-holiday-shopping-even-easier-with-these-tips-from-a-lifestyle-expert/

The move ends months of speculation about whether she was planning to run in the polls. She had been widely expected to bid to succeed her father, who cannot stand for another term as president. Ms Duterte, who is mayor of the major city of Davao, led opinion polls all year as the top presidential candidate. She has joined a new political party (Lakas-CMD) headed by former President Gloria Arroyo, replacing another candidate who had withdrawn. Shortly after filing her candidacy, she was picked as the running mate for Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the son of the late Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who is running as president. In the Philippines, the president and vice-president are elected separately. Duterte: The 'strongman' of the Philippines Lives lived and lost along Manila's Pasig river 'My face was on a wanted poster' Other presidential candidates include po[CENSORED]r former boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, and the mayor of Manila. Mr Duterte, a controversial "strongman" figure, came to power in 2016 promising to reduce crime and fix the country's drug crisis. But critics say that during his five years in power, Mr Duterte has encouraged police to carry out thousands of extrajudicial killings of suspects in what he has called his "war on drugs". The International Criminal Court has called for a formal probe into the thousands of killings that happened during the deadly crackdown. Mr Duterte had initially said he would stand as vice-president, before changing his mind last month and announcing his retirement from politics. However, reports emerged on Saturday - quoting his communications secretary - that he would file to stand as vice-president himself ahead of a 15 November deadline. Duterte senior "will file his certificate of candidacy for the vice-presidency on Monday, that's what he said," presidential communications chief Martin Andanar told local broadcaster ABS-CBN. However, he said the outcome remains uncertain, adding: "I would like to believe that that is the plan for now. We don't know if this will be the same plan by tomorrow or by Monday." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-59274204

At long last, we can stop calling Skyrim 'nearly a decade old.' As of November 11, 2021, The Elder Scrolls 5 is officially in the double digits. Throughout the past 10 years, Skyrim has been the sandbox setting for some of our favorite gaming stories, and northern Tamriel still occasionally calls us back to grapple with dragons and vampires and excessive numbers of cheese wheels once again. The anniversary has gotten us reminiscing about those adventures—roleplaying as Hunter S. Tomcatson, proposing marriage with a bit of mammoth corpse, and launching all manner of creatures into the atmosphere with weird physics glitches. These are our funniest and fondest memories from a decade spent in Skyrim. Jody Macgregor, AU/Weekend Editor: After finishing Skyrim, I started over with a new character, a khajiit named Hunter S. Tomcatson. I banned myself from using fast travel and just walked from one end of the country to the other, noticing how much the scenery changes, from the autumnal Rift with its purple mountain flowers and orange leaves to The Reach where it's all fog, gray stone, and misery. Somewhere on the northern coastline I stumbled across a cluster of fires and wandered over to investigate. At the centre of one was a lumpy black object I slowly realized was a corpse. Nearby there was a grimoire containing the spell Fire Cloak. Somebody had a magical misfire, I guess. I'd already played for dozens of hours, but I'd never seen this little vignette before. For some reason that's the thing that sticks with me, although the one sidequest where you wake up with a hangover and have to piece together your activities from the night before is obviously the best.

The Victoria Humane Society is having to turn away unwanted animals due to a surge in pet surrenders. Executive director Penny Stone said the organization has even had to stop adding animals to their wait list, with more than 400 animals currently in their care. “It’s been nuts,” she said. “We are kind of the last stop for people who can’t find another place for their pets.” Stone said the surge, which started around a month ago, has also included a larger number of dogs requiring extra training before they can be put up for adoption. This means the society is having to keep animals in foster homes for longer than usual. For the fosters who care for surrendered animals, more animals requiring more training means far more volunteer hours need to be worked. As one of the more experienced fosters and one with a large rural property, Leanna Richardson is tasked with caring for dogs requiring the most training. She spends much of her day taking the five dogs under her care at any give time on car rides and into busy urban areas, to gently expose them to things they should have learned as a puppy. “We’ve never seen this many under-socialized dogs come in at once,” Richardson said. READ MORE: Victoria Humane Society’s new rescue vehicle allows for thousand more animals to be helped The pandemic appears to be at the heart of the issue, with many families adopting or buying pets in the early days of lockdowns and working from home. With everyday life slowly returning to normal, Stone said some pet owners are realizing pets no longer fit their lifestyle and they are looking to re-home them. While some increase in surrenders was expected, Stone said they were caught off guard by the increase in long-term pets being surrendered as well. “People are not able to cope any more because their mental health just isn’t the same,” she said. “You would think the animals would help, but they seem to be another stressor in some cases.” With the society’s mobile community spay and neutering program placed on hold during the pandemic, Stone said the society is simultaneously dealing with significant setbacks to its po[CENSORED]tion control efforts. “Two years of animals not being spayed and neutered and left to roam, it feels like we have gone back 10 years,” said Stone. “Now we are starting over again with massive amounts of animals in communities and now we have to get them out.” In order to deal with a surge Stone feels won’t be ending anytime soon, the society is working on getting a larger facility to serve as a staging area for animals waiting for a foster spot to open up. She said anyone considering adding a pet to their family should seriously consider the long-term commitment of pet ownership. https://www.saanichnews.com/news/unwanted-pets-flood-victoria-animal-welfare-group-as-society-returns-somewhat-to-normal/

The new Ferrari BR20 is a V12-powered two-seat coupé based on the GTC4 Lusso that is the latest addition to the firm’s ultra-exclusive One-Off series. The styling takes inspiration from 1950s and 1960s Ferrari coupés, with cues that nod to the 410 Superamerica and 500 Superfast. It was designed as the newest coachbuilt one-off project for one of the Italian firm’s “longstanding clients”. The BR20 has been built on the platform of the GTC4 Lusso grand tourer that recently went out of production but has been extensively reworked. Most notably, it's longer than the original to allow for the addition of a bold rear overhang, including an aerodynamic air channel, rear spoiler and exhausts built into the lower diffuser. At the front, it features a reworked, widened front grille including unique horizontal slats and an upper carbonfibre element that links to other recent One-Off models. The headlights have also been modified with slimmer daytime running lights and the 20in diamond-finish wheels are unique. The two rear seats from the GTC4 Lusso have been removed to turn the car into a two-seater, which also allows it to sport a sleeker, fastback-style roof. The removal of the seats also allows for a major redesign of the interior, which features extensive use of leather trim and carbonfibre. The seats feature an exclusive stitching pattern, while oak trim covers the rear bench and luggage deck. No performance details have been disclosed, but the car retains the 6.2-litre V12 and four-wheel-drive system of the GTC4 Lusso. In that model, the engine was tuned for 680bhp. As with other luxury manufacturers, one-off and limited-run coachbuild projects are an increasingly lucrative revenue stream for Ferrari. Maranello once reported that it had a five-year waiting list for such projects. Ferrari said the BR20 client was “deeply involved” in the creation of the car, although it has revealed no details of their identity. It also hasn't given a value for the car. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-ferrari-br20-one-v12-powered-two-seat-coupe

Xavien Howard forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown to help the Miami Dolphins to a 22-10 upset win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. The Miami cornerback ran the ball back 49 yards to give the Dolphins a 15-3 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Ravens, who came in with a 6-2 record, replied with a Mark Andrews touchdown with 4:12 remaining. But quarterback Tua Tagovailoa scored on a one-yard run to secure a second straight win as Miami improved to 3-7. Newton back at Panthers, Beckham joins Rams The second-year quarterback, who missed last week's win over the Houston Texans with a fractured middle finger on his throwing hand, entered the game after Jacoby Brissett injured his right knee early in the third quarter. Brissett had completed 11 of 23 passes for 156 yards, before Tagovailoa made eight of 13 for 158 to steer the Dolphins to victory. Miami were also indebted to offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg, who recovered two fumbles by his own quarterback. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been tipped to be this season's most valuable player and completed 26 of 43 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. But the 2019 MVP, 24, ran for just 39 yards and was sacked four times, before throwing an interception with 43 seconds left. Often, stress and anxiety are used interchangeably. However, it must be known that there is a difference between the two. Stress and anxiety both impact us physically and psychologically, but different people them differently. So how does one differentiate? Experts state that while stress is mostly external, anxiety is “largely internal”. “Although one can generate stress for oneself through negative self-talk, pessimistic attitude, or need for perfectionism, it is usually triggered by external factors. Too many responsibilities or a high-stakes work project can usually trigger a stress response. Anxiety, on the other hand, is largely internal and depends on how you react to stressors,” said clinical psychologist, Narendra Kinger, founder, ‘Talk To Me’. ALSO READ |‘Time to practise what we preach’: Therapists on taking care of their mental health amid pandemic Often, even after the cessation or removal of stressors, some individuals may still feel overwhelmed and/or distressed. “This distress is called anxiety. It is an exaggerated reaction or response to a given situation. If the worry and distress you feel in a given situation is unusual, excessive, or lasts much longer than most others, it may be anxiety rather than stress,” Kinger told indianexpress.com. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health/stress-anxiety-difference-mental-health-causes-relief-7590946/

Fenster was found guilty of breaching immigration law, unlawful association and encouraging dissent against the military. He was earlier this week slapped with two additional charges of sedition and terrorism, which carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. His trial on the new charges will begin on 16 November. Fenster, 37, who was the managing editor of online site Frontier Myanmar, was detained at Yangon international airport in May. He is one of dozens of local journalists that have been detained since a military coup in February. According to Frontier, Fenster had earlier worked for Myanmar Now, an independent news site that has been critical of the military since the coup. "The charges were all based on the allegation that he was working for banned media outlet Myanmar Now. Danny had resigned from Myanmar Now in July 2020 and joined Frontier the following month, so at the time of his arrest in May 2021 he had been working with Frontier for more than nine months," said the news site. "There is absolutely no basis to convict Danny of these charges." His sentencing on Friday comes months after a Japanese freelance journalist was arrested in Myanmar and charged with spreading fake news. Yuki Kitazumi, who was reporting for many of Japan's major news outlets, was one of a few foreign reporters in the country. Myanmar authorities maintain he violated the law but released him because Japan had requested it. Myanmar coup: What is happening and why? The US has pressed the military government to release him, but a military spokesman insisted that Fenster needed to be held in custody. In a statement before the sentencing, the US state department commented that "The profoundly unjust nature of Danny's detention is plain for all the world to see. The regime should take the prudent step of releasing him now". The US has not yet commented on the ruling. Phil Robertson, the deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch, told the BBC that the verdict was "a travesty of justice by a kangaroo court" intended to intimidate all remaining journalists working inside Myanmar. Meanwhile, senior advisor at Crisis Group Myanmar Richard Horsey described the sentence as "outrageous". "It sends a message not only to international journalists... but also Myanmar journalists that reporting factually on the situation is liable to get them many many years in prison," he told the AFP news agency. He added that US diplomats were working to secure Fenster's release but noted that "obviously this sentence is a big setback to US efforts." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-59258112

Artificial intelligence pioneer Andrew Ng, the founder of the Google Brain research lab and the former chief scientist of Baidu, has raised $57 million from investors for his start-up, Landing AI, at an undisclosed valuation. Founded in Palo Alto in 2017, Landing AI is focused on bringing artificial intelligence to manufacturing companies. It has developed a computer vision tool that manufacturers can use to create their own visual inspection software. Computer vision software enables computers to derive meaningful information from digital images and videos. While it can be used, for example, to help autonomous cars make sense of their surroundings, it can also be used to identify a defect on a semiconductor wafer, a scratch on a smartphone screen or a dent in an auto component. Landing AI competes with the likes of Palo Alto-headquartered Instrumental and San Mateo-headquartered Chooch.ai. “We build tools that make it fast and easy for manufacturers to build and deploy successful AI systems,” Ng told CNBC, adding that he wants to take AI to other industries and beyond consumer internet platforms like Google and Baidu. “We read in the news and hear the PR buzz about AI supposedly transforming a lot of things,” said Ng, a former professor of computer science at Stanford University. “To me, I’m not seeing much of this realized yet. There’s tons of proof of concept, tons of PR, but frankly when I walk around manufacturing plants, AI is not widely deployed.”

Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are both getting official multiplayer support, and the experimental open beta for both is available now. Multiplayer comes in the form of the Convoy mode, which lets eight players drive together in the same world: AI traffic, time and weather are all synchronized, and all eight players can be on the same job. Both games already have mods that add multiplayer, but it's good news to have the functionality built into the game—albeit in a way that, so far, isn't quite as flexible as some community-built features. Because it's an experimental open beta there are currently limitations. Mods aren't supported in multiplayer yet, and everyone needs to share the same DLC as the host. There are more things to be aware of, explained in detail here, but rest assured that you've got the option to revert back to a previous save game state when you exit multiplayer. Instructions on how to enter the 1.41 Update Experimental Beta are over here. No word as yet on when the update will roll out of beta, but in the meantime SCS is after your feedback. Margin mugging, a practice whereby businesses purchase products with heavily inflated margins, was rampant in the IT industry last year, a report from managed IT services firm Probrand suggests. As reported by The Register, the firm analyzed $6.6 million worth of hardware bought by businesses in the three months before the pandemic, as well as the rest of 2020. It found that the mean average margin rose to 50.84 percent during the pandemic, up from 9.4 percent in the quarter before. Probrand says the spike in margins was due to Covid-19 shaking up the entire supply chain, and tilting the trade scale heavily towards the demand side. The lockdown forced many hardware factories in China to temporarily shut down their operations, as well as many planes to remain on the ground. At the same time, businesses all over the world were looking to buy additional hardware in order to facilitate remote working and maintain business continuity. This increase in demand, together with the decrease in supply, inflated the prices. There were many examples of margin mugging, Probrand says, with a Kingston Technology MicroSD card being among the most extreme. It was bought at a trade price of $3.36 and sold to a construction company for $22.24. Market analysts are expecting the hardware shortage to continue for the remained of the year, with prices falling back to normal in 2022.

SANDSTONE, Minn. — The Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone, Minn., has accepted several big cats seized last week from Tiger King Park, the park featured in the po[CENSORED]r Netflix docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.” Last week, federal authorities seized 69 big cats from the animal park owned by Jeff and Lauren Lowe. The Lowes had taken over the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park from “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic in 2016. When that park shut down in August 2020, they moved the animals to their facility in Thackerville, Okla. According to a Reuters report, the Lowes were accused in November of harming and harassing the animals, violating the Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act. In a news release Monday, The Wildcat Sanctuary said it accepted several tigers, lions and hybrid big cats from the federal seizure. “I am thankful for the coordinated effort of several accredited sanctuaries and federal agencies to ensure these cats were safely removed,” said Tammy Thies, founder and executive director of The Wildcat Sanctuary, in a Facebook post. “The Endangered Species Act is a federal law designed to protect endangered animals and I, along with the entire accredited sanctuary community, am very relieved that these big cats will receive the care and nutrition they desperately need and deserve.” All of the big cats have been accepted by accredited sanctuaries in the U.S. while the U.S. Department of Justice seeks forfeiture of the animals. The Wildcat Sanctuary has also offered to transport and provide a permanent home to any of the smaller cats that remain at Tiger King Park.

Particularly useful for washing your car quickly and efficiently, the rollers require some precautions. Discover the advice of Auto-Moto. If it is sometimes pleasant to pamper your car when the weather is nice or when it is being prepared for a special occasion, the washing stepcan sometimes turn into a chore. Considered a waste of time by some, especially since the result never lasts very long, it is far from being a piece of fun for everyone. Fortunately, there is a solution that can save time and clean your car without the risk of getting dirty: the rollers. If these are not free from defects, causing in particular a lot of micro-scratches, they are however very effective in cleaning up its bodywork and making it shine. However, some precautions should be taken so as not to damage your vehicle during washing. Auto-Moto details three mistakes you should not make when you go to the rollers. Bad parking It may seem obvious, but it is important to remember the importance of parking your car properly when you go to the rollers . When you arrive, you have to remember to wedge your front left wheel in the shoe provided for this purpose. Drive slowly and stop when your car is securely seated in the hold. Also be careful to position yourself well in the center of the washing area, between the two rails. In the event of protrusion on one side or the other, the brushes could damage their bodywork. You will then be able to correct your parking if you are not sure of yourself. Forgetting to fold the mirrors and remove the antenna Sometimes, it happens that we are in too much of a hurry and forget some basic gestures when we wash our car with rollers. Whatever happens, always remember to fold the mirrors and remove the antenna if it is removable, so as not to risk tearing or damaging it. Do not forget to apply the handbrake either, in order to prevent your car from moving, even if it is apparently well stalled. Finally, also remember to deactivate the alarm during washing, in order to prevent the pressure of the brushes and the water on the handles from triggering the latter, especially if you are equipped with the keyless opening. Not choosing the right washing program While this may sound obvious, it doesn't have to be when using the rollers for the very first time. You should know that the stations generally offer several washing programs , more or less complete, including different services. While the entry-level offerings, mostly including only washing and rinsing, are sufficient to occasionally clean your car, you will need to upgrade to more comprehensive programs if your vehicle is really dirty. Depending on the station, it is also possible to take advantage of the chassis wash and polishing wax , which will thoroughly clean your vehicle and give it an even more dapper appearance.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes says he is "honoured to be compared" with club legend Eric Cantona and is embracing that "good pressure" before Wednesday's Europa League final. Cantona's arrival from Leeds in 1992 is regarded as the catalyst for United to end their 26-year wait for a league title and embark on their era of dominance under Sir Alex Ferguson. Fernandes' efforts have helped United secure a top-three place in successive seasons for the first time since Ferguson retired in 2013. They can win their first trophy since 2017 if they beat Unai Emery's Villarreal in Gdansk on Wednesday (20:00 BST). There have been comparisons drawn with Cantona in the talismanic impact Fernandes has had at Old Trafford since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in a £47m deal in January 2020. The 26-year-old Portugal international has scored 40 goals in all competitions in the season and a half since he signed. He has 19 Premier League assists in that time and has won four player of the month awards, taking him into joint sixth on the all-time list - along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer, among others. "It is an honour to be compared with him because the impact he had was really high and he won many major trophies with the club," Fernandes told BBC Sport. "But when you are compared with this kind of big player it means you need to be better every day. It makes me work harder to keep in the mind of the people, being compared with him. That, for me, is a good pressure." Speaking to BBC Sport recently, Ferguson said Fernandes "has got the thing United have really needed over the last few years, an ability to make a pass in the final third that opens up defences". The statistics alone underline what kind of impact Fernandes has made. In all competitions, United's win ratio has increased from 42.9% from the start of 2019-20 until he joined to 59% since then. In the Premier League, the figures are 37.5% and 57.7%. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side lost eight times in their 24 league games prior to his arrival last season. They have lost six in 52 since then and two of those were against Leicester and Liverpool in the last two weeks. If at times it has felt Fernandes has been driving United forward on his own, he played it down, saying. "It is such a big club. It would be heavy to lift it myself," he said. The player knows his numbers are good - but he denies the overall improvement is down solely to his contribution. "Of course, I did really well. I know that, from my numbers, my performance, everything," he said. "But this comes from the help and trust of my team-mates. They have helped me to be better every day. And if they help me, I know I can help them." Fernandes' drive has also rubbed off on team-mates. "It is clear as water," he said. "Football has no past. "If you are not doing well in the present, people forget about what you have done in the past.. We see players making history in football for many years and still they get shouted at." The fine margins that operate in top-level football in the current era mean United will either start next season building off the solid foundation of a clear second-place finish and a first trophy of the Solskjaer era, or under intense scrutiny because of a failure to push Manchester City right to the end of the season and a lack of silverware for four years. And - after a season played largely behind closed doors and with fan protests against the club's owners - positivity may all hinge on the result in Gdansk. "This team is improving," Fernandes added. "Everyone can see it. We are growing up and understand together we can reach better things. "The most important thing for me about next season is being all together; club, players and fans pushing to the same side. If we all do that we could do many good things next season, which, I am pretty sure, will be much better than this one."

Jurors in the criminal fraud trial of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes will hear evidence of her high-flying tech-CEO lifestyle, without specifics that could appeal to class prejudice, a federal court judge ruled. Judge Edward Davila in San Jose U.S. District Court ruled that “evidence of wealth or lavish lifestyle” could not be admissible on its own, but could be used by prosecutors “to prove motive, knowledge, or intent.” The judge outlined prosecution claims that Holmes “received a generous salary, which allowed her to live a luxurious lifestyle replete with an expensive rental home, a luxury SUV, and assorted high-end merchandise,” and that she used company funds for luxury travel and accommodations, as well as regularly assigning her personal assistant to non-company tasks, such as shopping and returning products. Holmes, a Stanford University dropout who founded the now-defunct Palo Alto blood-testing startup in 2003, is charged with a dozen counts of felony fraud. Prosecutors had argued that her flights on private jets and stays in luxury lodgings highlighted her alleged motive for fraud. “Without that evidence the jury might be confused about why the defendant engaged in this conduct,” prosecutor John Bostic told Davila in a hearing earlier this month. Holmes’ lawyer Kevin Downey argued in that hearing that her accommodations, clothes, and travel and dining habits were irrelevant. “This is the kind of inflammatory commentary that could do great damage to the trial,” Downey said, adding that her trips were almost always on company business. Davila called the prosecution’s arguments “close to the impermissible use of evidence to show Holmes was wealthy and wished to become wealthier.” However, he found “some merit” in the government’s bid to put Holmes’ lifestyle before jurors. “Each time Holmes made an extravagant purchase, it is reasonable to infer that she knew her fraudulent activity allowed her to pay for those items,” Davila wrote in the order issued Friday. The benefits Holmes gained through such purchases could be relevant to her intentions, or her knowledge of wrongdoing, Davila said. Still, the judge wrote, citing case law, a court can exclude material that has that relevance if the risk of “unfair prejudice” is overwhelming. “Evidence of Holmes’s wealth can be construed as ‘appeals to class prejudice’ which are considered ‘highly improper’ because they ‘may so poison the minds of jurors even in a strong case that an accused may be deprived of a fair trial.’” The federal government alleges Holmes, now pregnant and expecting a baby in July, bilked investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. They claim she defrauded patients and doctors with false claims that the company’s machines could conduct a full array of tests using just a few drops of blood, when she knew the technology had accuracy and reliability problems. Holmes and her co-accused, former company president Sunny Balwani, have denied the claims. Davila noted that prosecutors had contended that Holmes’ desire for wealth was “a piece in a complex puzzle” of her alleged intent to commit fraud. But Davila found evidence of Holmes’ wealth and fame are not even moderately relevant to any intent to defraud. And because the case involves “potentially dangerous technology” and claims about purported “greed,” jurors could come to conclusions based on “their attitudes about such things,” Davila wrote. Davila noted that it’s “common knowledge” that Silicon Valley technology CEOs “enjoy lifestyles commensurate with those positions that are significantly different than those of the general public.” Prosecutors can put evidence before the jury that Holmes’ enjoyed a lifestyle comparable to other heads of tech firms, Davila ruled. “This includes salary, travel, celebrity, and other perks and benefits commensurate with the position,” Davila wrote.

"Dread that fills you with horror." That's how a customer named QCX-INT described his reaction to the collapse two years ago of QuadrigaCX, Canada's largest cryptocurrency exchange, where he had upwards of six figures in cash tied up. It was the end of January 2019, and QuadrigaCX had just filed for creditor protection in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. The announcement followed news that Gerald Cotten, the company's 30-year-old CEO, had reportedly died under peculiar circumstances the month before, while on his honeymoon in India. On the morning of Dec. 8, Cotten complained of a stomach ache. That day he and his wife, Jennifer Robertson, checked into the luxury resort Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur and told staff he wasn't well. The hotel's general manager drove them to a nearby hospital and within 24 hours, Cotten was declared dead. Listen to the podcast A Death in Cryptoland That's when things took a bizarre turn. According to reports, a doctor was asked to embalm the body, but refused because the request had come from a hotel employee, not the hospital. Cotten's body was then transported — although it is unclear how — to another facility that accepted the corpse for embalming. In the weeks following Cotten's trip to India, the company kept the death a secret. It was business as usual, with the exchange continuing to accept customer funds. It took more than a month for QuadrigaCX to publicly announce Cotten's death — and then another two weeks for Jennifer Robertson to admit the customer funds were inaccessible.

In a state that’s a mecca for golfers, these areas offer the perfect combination of living and playing Southern California, with its endless sunshine, outdoorsy lifestyle and dramatic ocean and mountain scenery around its golf courses has long been a mecca for golfers. “The weather in Southern California is fantastic,” said Drew Mandile, a Beverly Hills-based agent with Sotheby’s International Realty who has played at most of the top courses and clubs in and around Los Angeles. “You get so many opportunities to play here. “If it rains, it rains for three days and then it goes away,” he said. “It’s a great lifestyle.” Especially during the pandemic, golf has boomed everywhere, said Julie Bloom, senior vice president of operations at Sunrise Company, which develops and builds high-end homes within golfing communities in the Coachella Valley and then manages the clubs as well. “It’s one of the things that people have been able to do outside and still be socially distanced,” Ms. Bloom said. During the pandemic, a lot of people “reconnected with golf, especially younger people,” she said. “We think we may see generational changes moving forward.”

Arsenal have sacked Under-23s coach Steve Bould after over 30 years at the club. Bould has been in charge of the Under-23 team since June 2019 when he swapped jobs with Freddie Ljungberg as part of a major restructuring of Arsenal's coaching staff. Who is Bould? Bould is a former Arsenal defender who became part of a legendary back four with Lee Dixon, Tony Adams and Nigel Winterburn under the management of George Graham and Arsene Wenger. During his 11-year playing spell at the club, the centre-back won the league title three times and the FA Cup twice, clocking up 287 appearances. He returned to Arsenal as a youth team coach in June 2001 and led the Under-18 side to back-to-back Premier Academy League titles in 2009 and 2010 as well as the FA Youth Cup in the 2008-09 season. In May 2012, he was promoted to assistant manager, replacing Pat Rice. He held the role for seven years before turning his attention to the Under-23s in a switch with Ljungberg. Why has he been sacked? Arsenal’s academy has been in the limelight this season with the influence of “Hale End FC” — the group of players headlined by Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe influencing the first team — and the pressure to continue the production line is on. Per Mertesacker is in charge of the academy but this has not been a season to write home about for the younger age groups. Arsenal finished 10th in the PL2 Under-23 league this season although of course results are less significant than player development for academies. Bould returned to the academy to manage the Under-23s during a restructuring of the coaching set-up in the summer of 2019 after seven years as a first-team coach. A parting of the ways feels pertinent to the friction between old and new methodology that echoes the changes in the approach to scouting recently. What has his time been like at Arsenal? Bould was a stellar defender for Arsenal and one of the pillars of the iconic back four alongside Dixon, Adams and Winterburn. He was a much loved player as Arsenal won a glut of trophies under Graham. Bould took to coaching and spent 11 years educating youngsters at the academy before joining Wenger’s coaching staff. After Wenger’s departure he initially stayed on to offer continuity around the first team when Unai Emery arrived but ultimately preferred to be able to manage a team than take instruction in the new post-Wenger set-up. Bould has proudly served the club for over 30 years. Who are the notable prospects in the Under-23 squad? Folarin Balogun’s debut in the first team last season signalled the next generation to come through, with Miguel Azeez, a technical midfielder, not far behind. Who is set to replace him? It is uncertain at this stage but the appointment will fall to Mertesacker, the Arsenal academy manager.

https://youtu.be/SVHv-5XyjEM A bunch of gameplay footage from the recently-announced The Division: Heartland has leaked online. Beta testers are under NDA, and Ubisoft is quickly cracking down on the videos. The original video footage uploaded to Vimeo has since been removed. But this is the internet, and like the deadly virus in The Division, the videos are spreading. The leaked footage is grainy, low-res, very laggy, and from the perspective of someone who is mostly exploring and messing around with controls and emotes. Not exactly the kind of material Ubisoft wants to show off. But hey, emotes! We didn't know much about Heartland before this—except that it had to do with The Division—and now we can see that it's a third-person cover shooter with random loot drops. So it's a lot like The Division, unsurprisingly. The non-player enemies shown in the leaked footage are called Pilgrims, and come straight out of The Division 2, with enemy types that range from grunts to heavily-armored elites. Agents can equip two guns and a melee weapon, and perform dodge rolls and sliding runs—including shooting while sliding a la Apex Legends. An obvious difference between Heartland and the other Division games is the rural Silver Creek map, which is reminiscent of State of Decay or PUBG. Between missions, players spend time in the Rockit Rink, a neon-soaked, converted skating rink that serves as the base of operations for agents in Silver Creek. Like bases in previous Division games, it's full of NPCs with upgrades, crafting, gear, and quests. The menus also confirm the existence of a Battle Pass. One leaked video, shared by Skyleaks via Twitter, reveals lead designer Taylor Epperly introducing players to the closed beta, and describing what Heartland is all about. "In this free-to-play, open-world, survival-action shooter, we move from the big cities to a small town American city called Silver Creek," says Epperly. "You'll come to know Silver Creek and its mysterious story through a co-op PvE mode called Expedition." Expedition sounds like the opening tutorial. Epperly next describes a "PvEvP mode", called Storm, featuring 15 teams of 3 players each, for 45 total players. "Both modes will have you scavenging, exploring, looting, fighting, and surviving, all while avoiding the most aggressive and unpredictable virus contamination The Division has ever seen." Sounds a bit like Scavengers, potentially. Ironically, the video ends with Epperly reminding the viewer that beta testers are under NDA, and shouldn't share any of this information.

Animal chaos swirled around her, once more. Tracie Young talked on the phone with one hand and rehabbed a bird's bad foot with the other. The microwave was beeping, the baby foxes were whining and the "road boss" duck quacked continuously while waddling between legs. One volunteer chopped vegetables, another dissected mice. Young put down her phone just long enough for a sip of coffee. She never stopped gently pulling and pushing the recovering right leg of a female kestrel, the tiny raptor weighing only five or six ounces. "There's a rabbit coming in, hit by a car," she said to her pair of volunteers, fearing the worst. A fox, found on the side of the road with a head injury, was on its way, too. Her phone buzzed every five or 10 minutes with a request. More:Rappelling 180-feet over the Susquehanna ... to save a bird. 'This is what we live to do'
