  1. If we haven't yet reached the moment when copper cabling starts to seem completely inadequate for the job, we will soon. Your home internet connection may well have already made the change for faster speeds as copper is phased out, although it will be a while longer before our PC towers are hooked up any other way. Yet a team of researchers say we won't have to wait around for quick and easy fibre optic, instead it places its hopes in a brand new, and super fast, polymer cable. The plastic polymer cable is proposed as a blend of both copper's simplicity, which is required for a wide range of uses, and fibre optic's speed. It's rated to 105 GB/s, and like fibre optic can be bundled up for even greater speeds. It's being presented this month by Jack Holloway, who completed his PhD at MIT and now works for US defence contractor Raytheon. The technology is clearly one the military has its eyes on, too, as the has also been partly funded by the Office of Naval Research and Naval Research Laboratory. It's co-authored by Ruonan Han, an associate professor, and Georgios Dogiamis, a senior researcher at Intel, which also partly funded the research. The need for a new cable is due to the energy burned and the rate of information exchanged today, which is often limited today due to the widespread use of copper cabling, Holloway says in a report on MIT (via IEEE Spectrum) That's an issue felt most in the datacentre, where massive bandwidth comes at ever-increasing expense, but we're also effected even down to our gaming PC. Copper cabling is the ultimate limitation on cable length, for example. Want longer cables with a steady signal? We're going to need an answer to copper. One answer even today is fibre optic, which can be found in HDMI cables, but that comes with its own limitations. "There’s currently no way to efficiently generate, amplify, or detect photons in silicon," Holloway says. "There are all kinds of expensive and complex integration schemes, but from an economics perspective, it’s not a great solution." A polymer cable, Holloway says, may be a viable alternative that addresses both copper and fibre optic concerns.
  2. In a few hours, you will have our first driving impressions. In the meantime, here is the latest information on the Spring, the low-cost electric according to Dacia. Having a place of choice in Europe with the Zoe which is quite simply the best-selling electric model, the Renault Group announced last fall a much more accessible model branded Dacia, its low-cost subsidiary. Since this morning 8:00 am, we finally know the base price of the famous Spring which could (finally!) Democratize the electric car: 12,403 euros in basic version , batteries included and ecological bonus (27% of the price of the vehicle) deducted ( or 89 € / month with the conversion premium). Or the price of a recent second-hand Renault Zoe , batteries included. We expected around € 15,000 excluding bonus but finally, the Spring starts at € 16,800 (€ 12,264 bonus included) for professionals (Business finish), in particular car-sharing players very clearly targeted by Dacia . Admittedly, this is little for an electric car claiming up to 230 km of autonomy in WLTP (305 km in WLTP City) especially as the basic equipment includes air conditioning and radio in addition to all the equipment. mandatory security in Europe. It is clear that at this price, we should not expect performance from Tesla Model 3 but the Spring will be able to extract itself from cities with a maximum speed of 125 km / h and a promised habitability for four adults. => All electric cars on the market: the guide => The cheapest electric cars (before Spring) Derived from the Renault Kwid (thermal) sold in India since 2015 and very close, except for the logo, to the City K-ZE marketed in China with which it shares its Wuhan plant, the Dacia Spring will be offered for pre-order from from March 20, 2021 (like spring…, spring , in English) and delivered at the beginning of September. A two-seater Cargo version offering 1,100 liters of loading volume will be available from 2022. Ideal for last mile deliveries, because, we are convinced at Auto-Moto: the electric car is of no interest than in urban areas. It is still necessary that the infrastructures follow ...
  3. "The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation identified in its 2019 Global Burden of Disease report that the leading cause of disease and death is a result of what we are, and are not, eating," said ACLM Executive Director Susan Benigas. "Yet most physicians and medical professionals receive few hours of clinical nutrition education throughout their formal training. ACLM is committed to filling this void, supporting healthcare providers in their ability to prescribe food as medicine, empowering patients to make the evidence-based dietary lifestyle changes needed to protect health and fight disease, with health restoration as the clinical outcome goal." The limited nutrition education customarily offered in medical and health professional programs is often didactic and focused on the biochemistry of nutrients and health consequences of deficiency states—content that is of limited use in a clinical setting where the majority of the po[CENSORED]tion faces over-nutrition due to high intake of ultra-processed, calorie-dense, high saturated fat-laden foods. ACLM's "Food as Medicine" for medical professionals online course will educate and equip clinicians with knowledge of dietary patterns shown to prevent, treat, and reverse diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers as well as prepare them to implement food as medicine at a practical level in patient care. The course will also include nutrition considerations for various lifecycle stages and special po[CENSORED]tions, nutrition and scope of practice, and pharmaceutical implications in food as medicine practice. Specifically, this first installment of the course will: Review the current challenges in nutrition research and the challenges of disseminating accurate nutrition information to the public Explain national and global nutrition recommendations and basic nutrition principles Distinguish differences between health-promoting and health-harming foods Describe the dietary pattern recommended by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine for disease prevention, treatment and reversal Apply the concept of the dietary spectrum when making nutrition recommendations Apply nutrition therapy scope of practice Review the scientific evidence of po[CENSORED]r diets The course is targeted to a variety of clinicians with an interest in food as medicine: physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered dietitians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, other allied health professionals working with chronic disease prevention or treatment, certified health coaches and clinicians in training. "Since dietary choices have such a profound impact on health and chronic disease progression, all health care professionals should possess basic knowledge on utilizing food as medicine in patient care," said ACLM President Cate Collings, MD, MS, FACC, DipABLM. "ACLM is proud to continue its efforts to champion food as medicine as a key evidence-based therapy to prevent, treat and even reverse lifestyle-related chronic disease." To learn more or to register for the course, visit lifestylemedicine.org/food-as-medicine. ABOUT THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF LIFESTYLE MEDICINE: ACLM is the nation's medical professional society dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of lifestyle medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. Lifestyle medicine is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic intervention—including a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection—as a primary modality, delivered by clinicians trained and certified in this specialty, to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.
  4. THE $1.9 TRILLION COVID-19 relief package cleared by Congress and set to be signed by President Joe Biden will provide Americans with $1,400 stimulus payments but also includes a raft of health- and health care-related provisions. The package, dubbed the American Rescue Plan, passed after Democrats were forced to abandon an attempt to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 and amid back-and-forth in the party over an increase to federal unemployment benefits. Yet provisions that would provide funding to support COVID-19 vaccination and testing efforts, as well as expand premium tax credits to more people purchasing health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace, easily made it through both the House and Senate. Here's a look at some key provisions on health and health care contained in the measure. Vaccines: The bill includes billions of dollars for COVID-19 efforts such as vaccine education and operating clinics and mobile units. Under that umbrella, $7.5 billion will go to the Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for activities such as promoting, distributing and monitoring vaccines. Another $1 billion will go to the CDC for vaccine awareness and engagement activities, while $600 million will go to the Indian Health Service for vaccine-related efforts. Another $500 million will go to the Food and Drug Administration to aid in activities such as development and surveillance of vaccines and therapeutics. Currently, people on Medicaid do not have to pay for vaccines, and the measure seeks to ensure that the federal government will reimburse states for vaccinating Medicaid recipients at 100%. Testing: The package provides some $50 billion to expand COVID-19 testing through efforts such as implementing a national testing strategy for contact tracing, surveillance and mitigation. Another $500 million will go to the CDC to help track COVID-19 hot spots and emerging COVID-19 variants.

  6. 3D printing software developer Materialise has upgraded its Mimics Enlight medical 3D planning software with an additional cardiovascular procedure. Specifically, Materialise customers will now be able to plan out complex left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) procedures in Enlight’s 3D environment. The program is intended to help medical professionals mitigate surgical risk and improve planning efficiency by providing a more visual method of procedure preparation with 3D models. Janelle Schrot, Market Manager at Materialise Medical, explains, “While Materialise Mimics Enlight is not the only structural heart planner on the market for this procedure, we are unique in offering 3D planning technology.” What is the LAAO procedure? The LAAO procedure is a last resort treatment for patients suffering from atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition characterized by a rapid, irregular heartbeat that increases a patient’s risk of stroke. To treat AFib, a cardiologist inserts a specialized implant into the heart, which shuts off and regulates blood flow to the left atrium. This has been shown to reduce the risk of AFib-induced stroke by up to 70%. Owing to the variability of the condition, each LAAO procedure must be tailored to the individual anatomy of the patient. This makes the planning stage of the procedure crucial, as implant placement is especially delicate. Physicians usually take multiple 2D scans of the heart and patch them together, but a native 3D scan can provide a better understanding of the intricacies of the chambers and valves with more accurate measurements. 3D visualization with Mimics Enlight Developed in collaboration with healthcare provider Henry Ford Health System, Mimics Enlight provides clinicians with a consistent method of taking critical 3D measurements for cardiovascular procedures. The software allows users to virtually implant LAAO devices to simulate their feasibility, with the ability to modify the size of the implant in a trial-and-error fashion. As well as the LAAO procedure, the program can also be used to prepare for transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) procedures, a feature launched back in 2019. Much like the other software packages in the Materialise portfolio, Mimics Enlight integrates well with 3D printing technology, as scans can be exported as STL files for medical model fabrication. Combined with full-color 3D printing technologies, the program can enable next-level surgical planning with lifelike parts. Additionally, patient scans can also be explored in virtual reality, granting clinicians the power to extensively assess cases before the operating room. “We give physicians the advantage of working on segmented 3D models rather than relying on 2D images and volume rendering alone,” adds Schrot. “These 3D models provide unique insights into patient anatomy and challenges that the anatomy may present during the procedure. They are a key to success in creating a fast, repeatable process to planning challenging left atrial appendage closures. This combines with our online case sharing portal to improve physician communication and enable even higher utility of the case plan.” Performing a virtual LAAO device implantation in Mimics Enlight. Working with surgeons at NYU Langone Health, the company helped develop personalized 3D printed surgical guides, which enabled the team to precisely perform the complex procedure on a 22 year old patient. Elsewhere, the company has also previously partnered with metal 3D printer OEM Desktop Metal to provide support for its binder jet 3D printing technology on the Materialise software suite. The partnership, which covers Desktop Metal’s Shop System and Production System, aims to provide customers with a simplified end-to-end binder jetting workflow. 7. Foreign direct investments (FDI) in the computer software and hardware sector jumped nearly four-times to $ 24.4 billion during April-December 2020-21, according to the latest data of DPIIT. While in the year-ago period the sector received $ 6.4 billion FDI, the entire 2019-20 saw overseas investment of $ 7.7 billion, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) data showed. According to experts, the accelerated digitalisation and increased use of artificial intelligence due to the pandemic led work-from-home scenario have all resulted in a huge opportunity for the computer software and hardware sector. "There has been extensive unlocking of value, and we have seen huge FDI into this sector," Arvind Sharma, Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co said. Bimal Raj, Partner, Singhi Advisors, too said the sector witnessed an increase in FDI as there was a surge in the electronics and digital transformation globally and the Indian tech firms were ideally poised to capture that potential. The other sectors which recorded significant growth in foreign inflows during the nine-month period of 2020-21 include construction (infrastructure) activities ($ 7.2 billion), and pharmaceuticals ($ 1.24 billion). FDI in telecommunication dipped to $ 357 million from $ 4.3 billion during April-December 2019-20. Automobiles too witnessed a slowdown with $ 1.18 billion in April-December 2020-21 as against $ 2.5 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal. Mr. Sharma said key sectors which have potential to attract more FDI include IT, telecom, pharma and electronics manufacturing. "With the increased use of high-end technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus of global investors has moved to the IT and telecom sectors. Besides, the government's continued emphasis on Make in India and its introduction of performance linked incentive schemes for various sectors will also result in accelerated growth and more FDI inflow," he said. Further, during April-December 2020-21, India attracted maximum FDI from Singapore ($ 15.71 billion) followed by the US ($ 12.82 billion), the UAE ($ 3.91 billion), Mauritius ($ 3.47 billion), and Cayman Islands ($ 2.53 billion). Overall FDI equity inflows into the country jumped 40 % to $ 51.47 billion.
  8. We've all been there. You've just dropped into a match of Apex Legends, only to find one of your squadmates has sprinted off on their lonesome, ready to solo every other team on the battlefield—leaving the other two at a disadvantage. Fortunately, Apex will soon let these lone wolves queue up without hindering a team, but be warned—this isn't exactly a proper solos mode. Chaos Theory, the game's next Collection Event, is adding a "No Fill" toggle, letting Apex know that you don't want your squad filled out with strangers. So yeah, play solo if you want. Just know that you'll still be pitting yourself against two- or three-person teams. Hey, maybe you're just that good. Respawn has toyed with temporary solo modes in the past, but isn't too keen on making in a permanent option. No-fill, then, is an attempt to compromise with the hotshots out there who want to test their luck while still retaining the game's team spirit. "We still strongly believe that, at its best, Apex Legends is a game about teamplay. But we’re launching this No-Fill matchmaking as an option for solo players because we think it gives a lot of creative opportunities for you to play the game your way." No-fill will be a permanent addition to the game, but Chaos Theory's other improvements are also quite spicy. A new takeover mode, Ring Fury, supplements the usual closing circle with with new "Ring Flares", regions of ring damage that will slowly grow over the course of a match. Expect these to only grow more intense as the event goes on—Respawn is using this mode to introduce new "escalation takeovers", which means these flares are only going to get hotter as the days go on. To help cool things down, Apex is also adding new Heat Shields. Deployed like Gibraltar's dome shield, these bubbles will protect you from ring damage temporarily, while also increasing healing and revive speeds while deployed in the ring. These will take up space in a new Survival slot in your inventory, letting you snatch up Heat Shields or Respawn Beacons without filling valuable backpack space. Caustic has also taken over a part of King's Canyon in the latest Town Takeover, replacing Water Treatment with Caustic Treatment—an evil lair full of toxic science goo that offers great loot for those willing to brave its fumes. Finally, the Collection Event comes with a slew of new cosmetics to collect, including a new Bangalore Heirloom knife.
  9. Contrary to po[CENSORED]r belief, Ferrari is far from being the most po[CENSORED]r brand among Internet users, with po[CENSORED]rity down 35.3%. In your opinion, which brand is the most sought after on the web by Internet users around the world? There is a good chance that you mention manufacturers such as Porsche , BWM or Ferrari, among others. Logical, when we know the seductive potential of these ultra high-end brands, which many of us dream of. However, you will be surprised to learn that the Maranello firm is ultimately not that po[CENSORED]r on the Internet, at least not as much as it was ten years ago. This information comes to us from the online insurance comparator Compare The Market , which has surveyed the most po[CENSORED]r car brands for the past ten years. For this, the company relied on data from Google Trends, in order to draw up a ranking of the most sought after manufacturers and those whose po[CENSORED]rity has fallen. Ferrari is therefore part of this second category, which is in 38th position out of 30. The Italian brand therefore shows one of the biggest drops, and is then just ahead of Vauxhall (-45.0%), Citroën (-47.6%) and Fiat (-52.2%), also in large loss of speed for ten years. In addition, many premium and luxury brands are also affected by this drop in their po[CENSORED]rity, such as Bentley (-13.2%), BMW (-14.5%) or Aston Martin (-19.9%) . On the other hand, other manufacturers are doing quite well, like Tesla., whose po[CENSORED]rity has increased by 1,262% since 2010, as the range has grown and the electric car market is increasingly developed today. Elon Musk's firm was then followed to a lesser extent by Kia, which for its part took 71.3% in ten years, as well as by Rolls-Royce, which saw its po[CENSORED]rity increase by 62.0%. A great comeback that we owe without a doubt to the launch of the Cullinan , the large luxury SUV that allows the brand to attract a whole new clientele. What are the most po[CENSORED]r models? However, when we look at the ranking of the most po[CENSORED]r models among Internet users, it is quite astonishing not to find any Tesla. The list is indeed dominated by the Mini in its three-door version, whose po[CENSORED]rity has climbed 145% in ten years, then followed by the Mercedes Class A (+ 87.7%) and the Land Rover Range Rover (+83 , 3%). On the other hand, it is once again two Vauxhall / Opel models which come to close the ranking, namely the Astra (- 65.6%) and the Corsa (- 72.0%). Unsurprisingly, the hybrid car segment is currently the most successful segment, while this type of engine is becoming more and more democratic over the years. This is then followed by city dwellers(+ 265%) and electric cars (+ 181%). Logical, while the brands are more and more numerous in this market, while thermal models are for their part always more threatened. Sports cars, for their part, close the rankings, losing 22.7% in po[CENSORED]rity, which nevertheless remains relatively measured. Internet users therefore still appreciate this type of vehicle, and that's good!
  10. “LAMENT CONFIGURATION” by NECRONOMIDOL is one of the most fun songs to come out in 2021. Initially released in 2019, NECRONOMIDOL updates the track for their new album, and the vocals and production sound much better. The track is a delightful blend of Japanese pop and dark wave aesthetics. Knoll’s “Inherent of Life” is a chaotic chasm of grindcore with dashes of death metal in the vocals. It’s a full on assault on the listener’s ears in the best way possible. “Twin Peaks” has been on my mind a ton lately, and that usually means listening to the soundtrack. Angelo Badalamenti’s work on “Twin Peaks” is some of the best work as a composer I’ve ever heard, and everything great about the show and the music can be found in the central theme. It’s moody, reflective, emotional and incredibly beautiful. Swampbeast is putting out some wildly underrated death metal right now within the scene. “1000 Years of Pestilence” off their new full-length album “Seven Evils Spawned of Seven Heads” lives up to the band’s name. The song is a nasty blend of death metal with some blackened elements as well. The vocals from Griffin Werk truly sound like they come from a beast stalking a hellish swamp. Kero Kero Bonito has risen to be one of the most likable bands working right now. “Dear Future Self” is one of their best works. The track sees the band at its most mature, reflecting on how life is full of ups and downs, but still laced with fun elements the band is known for. “Snowchild” by The Weeknd is without a doubt a depressing track. “Snowchild” perfectly captures what feeling alone in a major city is like, but it’s also a track that feels like a nice warm hug. The connection from artist to listener is strong on this track. Brandon’s Picks Gus Dapperton – “Post Humorous” DIIV – “Like Before You Were Born” Pop Smoke – “AP” (Music from the film Boogie) Slaughter Beach, Dog – “ Are You There” Porches – “I Miss That” BLACKSTARKIDS – “LOVE, STARGIRL” “Post Humorous” is the signature track of the album “Orca” by New York singer and songwriter, Gus Dapperton. The song’s somber lyrical content is juxtaposed perfectly by the bright guitar tones, all of which is blended together by the dreamy indie production to make for a wonderful listen no matter the mood. “Like Before You Were Born” by American shoegaze band DIIV is a reverb soaked track that bleeds melancholy with winding effect heavy guitar that makes me just want to sit back, close my eyes and reflect. “AP” is the latest posthumous release from the late Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke. “AP” is from the soundtrack of upcoming film “Boogie,” which follows a basketball phenomenon and their dream of reaching the NBA. The track is everything we’ve come to know from Pop with the Brooklyn drill beat and signature gritty vocals. “Are You There” is the first track off of Slaughter Beach, Dog’s “At the Moonbase”. A modern folk rock track packed with synth and slide guitar, “Are You There” is the perfect track for a sunny day. “I Miss That” by synth-pop band Porches is an analog and spatial track that is incredibly refreshing with simple yet cathty drums that will have your head bopping. BLACKSTARKIDS are a three-piece hip-hop group that incorporates elements of indie-pop to create nostalgic, genre-blurring hits like “LOVE, STARGIRL.” This song will be stuck in your head all day and have the listener feeling untouchable.
  11. Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit his hometown and the state in which he lived most of her life, New York, for the first time since leaving the White House, amid an escalating dispute with his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The Trump left the White House, on January 20 last, to the state of Florida and South, where he owns a resort there, rather than New York. Trump was born in New York state and lived in New York state for most of his life, and has a lot of real estate there, but he moved away from it during his presidency to Florida, because of what he said were insults from politicians who do not appreciate the taxes he pays to the state. The former president will return to New York this weekend, after spending the past six weeks at the Palm Beach resort in Florida. It was not clear what Trump would do there, but that came in light of Trump's swift return to the limelight. And US media reported that this development comes in light of the dispute between the former president and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner , who was his chief advisor during his tenure. Related news The American "CNN" network indicated that Trump is angry with Kushner, because of the loss in the presidential election in November 2020. The dispute began between the two parties in the days that followed their departure from Washington, DC. Cameras spotted Trump playing golf at his Miami resort, and he left the field minutes before Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, arrived. This sign shows that the relationship between the two parties is not well. Before that, Kushner was absent from Trump's team that accompanied him to his first public appearance since leaving the White House at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in late February. "CNN" said that Trump holds Kushner, in his conversations with the narrow circle surrounding him, responsible for his loss in the presidential elections, but Trump's advisers denied in statements to the British newspaper "Daily Mail" the existence of differences between the two men. On the other hand, close to Kushner stated that he had distanced himself from politics, especially after Trump's numerous allegations of election fraud

  13. If quantum isn’t to be a technology “that’s always 10 years away,” then quantum error correction (QEC) – one of the high hurdles to quantum becoming a practical reality – must be tamed. This week at a Wall Street Journal virtual CIO Network event, IBM’s SVP and Director of IBM Research Dario Gil said the company is developing QEC software on track for release in 2023. “This is going to be the decade in which quantum really comes of age…,” Gil said in a Journal article published yesterday. “We’ve got to get these computers to operate without errors, and if we can do that we’ll realize their full potential. So what we envision is in 2023, when we deliver that system, it will be an inflection point in that the errors of quantum computers will continue to decrease exponentially through software, as opposed to just by making the device better.” His statements reflect a broadening perspective, at least among the media and non-quantum specialists interested in the technology, for assessing quantum’s progress beyond a fixation on qubit counts, qubits being quantum bits, the basic unit of quantum information. In a 2021 technology predictions article we published two months ago, Dr. Itamar Sivan, co-founder and CEO, Quantum Machines, discussed this development. “Although it seems counterintuitive, the progress made in quantum hardware development over the next year may lead to more uncertainties within the quantum industry rather than less,” he said. “However, this is actually a good thing. Currently, it may seem like one or two types of qubit hardware are ahead of the others in the R&D process. Over the next year, however, we expect to see more researchers working with other hardware types to close the gap. Closing this gap will undoubtedly make it more unclear as to which qubit model (superconducting qubits, NV centers, trapped ions/atoms, mechanical resonators, etc.) will be the industry standard. Still, the continued development of all the hardware types is essential to ensure we end up with the best possible technology.”
  14. For years many of us used MP3 players for music, portable DVD players or tablets for video, and dedicated portable units for gaming. Today, the smartphone serves as the central computing device for music, video, gaming, and much more. Today, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon Sound, it's system-level approach that brings together various hardware elements and software to provide an enhanced audio experience to end users. Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound brings together mobile platform processors, such as the Snapdragon 888, select Qualcomm headset and earbud chips, and Qualcomm audio and voice technologies. These audio and voice technologies include Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring, Active Noise Cancellation, aptX Adaptive Audio, aptX Voice Audio, and HDR/3D Audio Record. Also: Best noise-canceling headphones in 2021 While audio performance for music is likely the first thing that may come to mind when hearing about Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound, this new initiative also provides enhanced audio for voice calls, gaming, and video. For voice calls, the sampling frequency provided by Snapdragon Sound is twice that of leading competitors to help provide crystal clear calls. When looking at gaming and video playback, Snapdragon Sound provides a 45% reduction in latency for audio/video synchronization. As video resolution improves and gaming goes to the next level, in terms of graphics, having a seamless audio experience is important. When it comes to music playback, Snapdragon Sound offers twice the sampling frequency, up to 96 kHz and 24-bit, while leading competitors offer 48 kHz. The system is also optimized to minimize dropouts and battery life. We also see various phone and headset makers offering multiple connection options and Snapdragon Sound is designed to provide simple pairing and seamless multiple connection usage. Also: Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro first take: 108MP camera, 120Hz display, and 5,020 mAh battery Xiaomi was part of today's announcement with a statement that it will be the first mobile manufacturer to bring Snapdragon Sound to is phones. Audio-Technica will be supporting Snapdragon Sound in its headsets too. Amazon announced the Snapdragon Sound playlist with its Amazon Music HD service. According to Qualcomm, devices supporting Snapdragon Sound are expected to be available later this year. As products are available, consumers will be able to look for the Snapdragon Sound badge on optimized devices to readily identify phones, earbuds and headphones and, in time, other devices like PCs, watches and XR glasses designed to deliver the full benefit of these advanced audio features.
  15. Razer is taking its new 'lifestyle' branding very seriously, it seems. Fresh off the back of its Project Hazel face mask, the company has announced its first ever pair of glasses: Razer Anzu. Available in two different styles, Razer Anzu brings either blue light protection for indoors or UVA/UVB protection for outdoors in a pair of surprisingly tame glasses for a company famed for adding RGB to everything. But wait, there's more. That would be the onboard speakers with touch controls—built right into the specs themselves. The open-ear audio design is powered by an omnidirectional microphone and 16mm drivers built right into the frame, which Razer says are "nearly imperceivable" on the otherwise rather standard face fare. If they're anything like the open-ear speakers on the Valve Index then we'd be very into this idea. If they're not, well, we're just going to have to find out aren't we? Extensive benchmarking is clearly required. This audio function is controlled via touch controls on the outer frame of the glasses, which offers play, pause, skip, and activate smartphone assistant functionality. That's all connected to your device via Bluetooth. There's also an "Activate gaming mode" option, which is either some gaming specific EQ (also controllable via an Android and iOS app), or a mode that renders the world in The Matrix-style code in front of your very eyeballs. Razer say it should last up to five hours with the internal battery, after which you'll need to charge it up with the included USB cable. The lenses are interchangeable for either indoor or outdoor use, and the Anzu is also splashproof, up to IPX4. You won't want to get them soaked in the rain, however. Note: no RGB lighting this time. Razer figured out a way to get LEDs onto a face mask but these smart glasses? No, that's one step too far. I couldn't agree more, either. The Razer Anzu Smart Glasses can be yours from today for $200 (£200, €210). So they don't come cheap, but sunglasses hardly ever do.
  16. Would you like a Volkswagen ID.3 convertible? This is what the brand would like to know, before deciding whether or not to produce this version. That's it, the beautiful days are slowly returning, while spring is coming to the fore. And it is true that after several winter months, curfews and restrictions of all kinds, we only want one thing, to go out again and enjoy the sun. This can be seen, as the parks and gardens fill up at the slightest radius, and enthusiasts take out their cars to go for a weekend stroll. And while the good weather seems to be back, convertibles are more and more numerous on the roads, after months of sleep for some. But while the choice is increasingly limited today, while rare models remain such as the BMW Z4 and other Mazda MX-5, a manufacturer is considering investing in this segment, which is however losing ground. It is Volkswagen, which already markets the T-Roc convertible , and which wants to launch a completely different model, even more unusual. quiet, smooth, open: We're thinking about an e-convertible, maybe an # VWID3 convertible. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/cfLHu3OGa9 - Herbert Diess (@Herbert_Diess) March 1, 2021 And for good reason, it is the Volkswagen ID.3 , which could soon be available in a new discoverable version. This is no joke, while April 1 is only a month away, when the boss of the brand himself has posted two official images on his Twitter account. On the blue bird network, Herbert Diess says he is indeed " open to an electric convertible car, perhaps an ID.3 convertible. ". If the idea seems totally far-fetched, and almost looks like an astonishing bet made during a meeting at the manufacturer, the fact remains that it could gain ground. But on one condition: that the public agrees. Again on Twitter, this time it was Volkswagen's official account which shared an illustration of this hypothetical novelty, then asking for the opinion of Internet users on the subject through a survey. And in view of the first results, they seem enthusiastic to say the least! It must be said that the idea - certainly absurd - of an electric convertible can be somewhat attractive, and could appeal to some customers. A rare species Because discovering zero-emission vehicles don't really run the streets, the latest example being the Citroën E-Méhari, which has not really left any mark in the history of the automobile. For its part, the Tesla Roadster , as promising as it is still has not arrived, and should not do so until next year, although it would not compete with this Volkswagen ID.3 convertible anyway.. For now, you can imagine that no technical information about it has yet been revealed, but there is no doubt that the engines should be identical to the standard version. As a reminder, the electric compact is then available in two power levels, namely 150 and 204 horsepower, while three sizes of batteries are available, ranging from 45 to 77 kWh, then offering autonomy of between 330 and 500 kilometers in one. single charge. Already available, the standard version of the Volkswagen ID.3 is currently displayed from € 33,890, with an endowment including among others the 10-inch touchscreen, the induction charger, adaptive cruise control or even the seats. heated leather front and steering wheel.
  17. EXCLUSIVE: Channel 5 is revisiting classic UK lifestyle show You Are What You Eat and giving it a contemporary twist by installing presenter Trisha Goddard as host. The original show broadcast on Channel 4 between 2004 and 2007, with presenter Gillian McKeith helping people improve their diets by, among other things, displaying their weekly intake of food on a table and testing their feces. Producer CPL Production will revive these infamous format points for Channel 5, as Goddard teams with Dr Amir Khan (GPs: Behind Closed Doors) and other experts to help people turn their lives around. Goddard is back on UK screens after a stint in the U.S., where she hosted NBCUniversal syndicated talk show Trisha Goddard. She starred in ITV’s Dancing On Ice last year, and is reportedly in talks to launch a new ITV chat show. Commenting on the revival of You Are What You Eat, she said: “Our bodies are like cars: fill it with the wrong fuel, leave it parked in one spot for way too long and bit by bit, it’s going to start falling apart. “There is nothing more uplifting than finding how to create the best version of yourself. So working with people who want to improve the way they feed themselves; body and soul is really exciting.” Murray Boland, CPL’s creative director, added: “The great thing about bringing back this classic format is that Channel 5 really want to do something new with it that feels warm and life affirming. That is exactly the kind of programme that we love to make.” You Are What You Eat was commissioned by ViacomCBS’s Emma Westcott. The format is distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.
  18. YouTube CEO Susan Wojski said that the platform may lift the ban imposed on the account of former US President Donald Trump, if "the possibility of violence recedes." She added that the company would look at government warnings and speech inciting violence to determine when it would be safe to lift the ban. Trump's account was subject to a ban following a riot in Congress on January 6 that killed five people. YouTube said he (Trump) violated their policy of inciting violence. "It is clear that the current situation is that there is still an increased risk of violence," Wojski said during an interview with the Atlantic Council think tank, which is concerned with the field of international relations, on Thursday She explained that the behavior of the former president had not resulted in a complete ban on the platform. The company operates under the "three violations" system, according to which a user account receives three warnings of "violations" within 90 days before the account is permanently blocked Rudy Giuliani, Trump's former personal attorney, received his second ballot earlier this week over allegations that the recent US presidential election had been "stolen." Usually, the first violation leads to the suspension of the account for a week, but Trump's term is extended due to the continuing "risk of violence." The US President had imposed a ban on the use of many social media after a large group of his supporters stormed the Congress building on January 6. Trump was also banned from tweeting and commenting on Facebook. The content control committee on Facebook is looking into whether the ban should be final, but it is not clear when the committee will issue its decision. The US authorities also brought criminal charges against 221 people who were involved in the riots
  19. While Peugeot unveiled its new logo yesterday, Auto-Moto offers you a retrospective of all the emblems of the brand since its inception. For the 11th time in its history, Peugeot is updating its logo, ten years after the revelation of the previous version. A brand new coat of arms as a symbol of its renewal, while the Sochaux brand wishes to assert loud and clear its new, more upscale positioning, but above all focused on electric mobility. Inaugurated on the future Peugeot 308 , which will be revealed on March 18, this logo, designed by the Peugeot Design Lab remains faithful to the lion, this time representing a head in profile. A design that is reminiscent of the one on the steering wheel of the Peugeot e-Legend concept, in 2018, itself inspired by the one launched in the 1960s, and affixed for the first time on the hood of the Peugeot 404. But do you know the whole history of Peugeot logos? Auto-Moto tells you more and invites you to discover it in our slideshow above! The lion as an emblem First of all, do you know why the Peugeot logo is a lion? Admittedly, it is above all a symbol of power, but it is not for this reason that Emile Peugeot deposited in 1858 a first logo adorned with this animal. In reality, this one was chosen above all because it is represented on the coat of arms of the Franche-Comté region, where the brand was born a few years later. In addition, the manufacturer indicates that this choice was also made to highlight the resistance of the products designed by the latter, and in particular saws " the resistance of teeth like that of lion's teeth, the flexibility of the blade to imitation of the flexibility of the lion's spine, the speed of the cut like that of the leaping lion ". First affixed to various objects such as coffee grinders, cycles and motorcycles, it was in 1905 that the logo dedicated to cars was presented. Alternately represented in full and then only the head, it was not until 1948 that the heraldic lion appeared for the first time on the Peugeot 203 , standing and in profile, as we knew it on the old logo. . At that time, the feline was accompanied by the coat of arms of Franche-Comté , while in 1955, the Peugeot 203 and 403 adopted a brand new logo, instead of the lion's head on the bonnet, for security reasons. It was in 1960, on the Peugeot 404 that an emblem that we now know well appears, this one being very close to the version unveiled yesterday. A few years later, in 1968, it became more refined, leaving its frame behind and adopting more angular lines. Finally, in 1975 reappeared the heraldic lion, which was subsequently declined until 2010, when the matt and shiny bi-aspect version was born, visible on the hood of all the brand's current models.
  20. With shadows of 2020 still hovering strong this year, there seems to be an unending struggle with the global pandemic. However, there is a silver lining. The rise of earthenware Since ages, Indian kitchens used natural earthen pots, pans and kadhais. And now, urban families are back to using stylish and chic clay utensils. Experts too recommend using earthen pots because of the multiple benefits they offer. It has been found that food cooked in earthen utensils have a comparatively higher amount of iron, calcium, magnesium and sulfur. And these are good for our body. “While travelling in remote areas, we had picked up a few clay handis. During the lockdown, we tried cooking in them and now there’s just no going back. The food turns out to be more aromatic and flavourful. We even end up using less oil, as clay pots tend to trap the moisture really well. Also, these utensils help food retain its nutritive value a lot more than other cookware,” says homemaker Kavita Wadhwani, who has begun using earthenware since the last few months. The pandemic and work-from-home phase also led to many people adopting plants and creating home gardens. A scientific journal reported that the positive association with gardening was very beneficial for overall health. Psychologists say that gardening reduces anxiety symptoms, stress, mood disturbances and it helps to improve cognitive functions, too. People who are into gardening have a better quality of life. Nivedita Singh, a media professional who lives in a small apartment in the suburbs, says, “I took to gardening during the pandemic and it has changed my life. It is such a stress-buster. I can just pick dhania and methi from my herb garden at home. That’s such a feel-good factor.” Growing plants using homemade compost Neela Renavikar Panchpor is a fine example of clean living. She has been into soilless gardening. For the last decade, she has been growing fruits and vegetables without any soil on the roof of her house in Pune. Much has been written about this marathon runner and cost accountant who learnt gardening from the internet and has used only 450 square feet area to grow dudhis, cucumbers, chillies, tomatoes, potatoes and fruits. Neela uses only homemade compost from kitchen waste. You could try organic farming, too, and embrace a healthier and cleaner lifestyle.
  21. US President Joe Biden said that Iran could not get away with it, and advised it to be "cautious" when asked about the message he was sending to it about the US air strikes in Syria. "You will not go unpunished, " Biden told reporters while traveling to Texas to see the damage caused by a severe winter storm. Biden had ordered air strikes on facilities belonging to Iranian - backed militias in eastern Syria, Thursday, in response to missile attacks on US targets in Iraq. The US strikes targeted the sites of armed factions on the Syrian side of the border with Iraq, where Tehran-backed groups control an important crossing for weapons, personnel and goods. The US Department of Defense said it had preliminary information about the victims, but did not provide details. Western officials and some Iraqi officials accuse the Iranian-backed groups of being involved in deadly missile strikes that targeted US sites and individuals in Iraq last month. White House spokeswoman Jane Sackey said on Friday that the US air strikes in Syria were aimed at sending a message that Biden would work to protect Americans. Saki added that any other US measures in the region would be in consultation, aimed at preventing the escalation of tension in Syria. The attacks coincided with attempts by Washington and Tehran to return to the nuclear agreement, which was concluded in 2015 and from which former US President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018, in a move that ignited regional tensions and increased in the wake of fears of an all-out conflict
  22. Two years ago, KKR sunk hundreds of millions into a software company. Based on my interview with the software company’s CEO, I would not be surprised to see it go public. The company in question is Rochester, Mich.-based OneStream Software which supports a cloud-based platform that helps companies close their books accurately and do planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis. In February 2019, KKR invested over $500 million in OneStream, valuing the company at over $1 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. After my February 11 interview with CEO, Tom Shea, I concluded that OneStream is on a glide path to an IPO. Here are three reasons this is one to watch: Clear demand for its services Successful IPOs of peer companies OneStream’s focus on delighting every customer KKR’s Investment In OneStream OneStream is majority owned by KKR. OneStream sought feedback from potential investors and concluded that KKR was the best one. As Shea told me, “We hired Wells Fargo WFC to see if [potential investors thought] we could be a good public company as we approached the $100 million mark. We talked to 10 investors and got four offers in the $1 billion range. We chose an offer from KKR because it could use its balance sheet more strategically. There would be no debt and the KKR Global Institute could help us win government customers.” KKR’s majority stake in OneStream was secured with a more than $500 million investment through KKR’s private-equity and growth-equity funds. According to the Journal, up until its February 2019, OneStream had self-financed. After 38% Plunge, Buy CCIV On Lucid’s $22.8B 2026 Revenues OneStream’s rapid growth sprang from the way its platform simplifies reporting and planning for financial executives by tying together separate accounting systems. In 2018, OneStream grew its revenue by 137% and expanded its customer base by 66%. Shea told the Journal that its platform “enables finance professionals to complete reporting and planning tasks from a single platform.” Evidence of Demand For Corporate Performance Management Corporate performance management software is a large market growing modestly. According to Statista, 2020 revenue was about $4 billion and by 2024, the market is expected to grow at a 2.4% compound annual rate to $4.4 billion. Demand for cloud-based performance management services is growing far more rapidly — at a 16.5% annual rate — than on-premises software’s 3.7% growth rate, according to IDC. Large enterprise software companies have entered this industry through acquisition. For example, Oracle acquired Hyperion for $3.3 billion in March 2007 — which had previously acquired UpStream Software, a company that Shea ran, in January 2006. SAP bought another rival, Business Objects for $6.8 billion in October 2007. Meanwhile, the Journal cited Anaplan, a business performance management platform provider, about which I wrote in July 2018 and Workiva, a financial reporting software provider — as rivals to OneStream. These publicly-traded competitors provide evidence that there is sizable pie worth fighting over here. Anaplan And Workiva Growing Fast Although Shea told me that Anaplan — which he views as a point product — does not offer the integrated platform that customers so value from OneStream, its rapid growth and considerable returns to investors could foreshadow the opportunity available to investors should OneStream go public. Back in July 2018 — three months before its IPO — CEO Frank Calderoni told me that Anaplan had enjoyed very rapid growth the year before. As he said, in its fiscal year ending January 2017, Anaplan had $120 million in revenue, was growing at 75%, added 250 customers for a total of 700, employed over 700 people in 16 offices in 12 countries, had raised a total of $240 million in capital, and generated good cash flow. That was enough for Anaplan to go public. Since then its stock price has soared and its revenues have increased quickly. More specifically, Anaplan stock has risen at a 66% average annual rate to about $79.45. Meanwhile, its revenues have increased at a 42% average annual rate over the last three years to $348 million, according to Morningstar. Workiva has also rewarded investors — though not quite as well. Since its December 2014 IPO, Workiva shares have risen at a 39% average annual rate to $105. Meanwhile, its revenues have increased at a 19% average annual rate over the last three years to $352 million, according to Morningstar. OneStream seems to be growing faster while its revenues — Shea did not share them — seem to be in the same ballpark. As Shea said, “Our goal is to grow 100% — we grow or die. We want every customer to be willing to serve as a reference [for potential customers.]” OneStream expects 2020 to exceed its “great” 2019 results. As Shea said, “When Covid hit on March 8. 2020 it was stark. We realized all our plans were useless. We had to close the books every day. Slowly over time demand came back. Companies needed to eliminate non value-added work. We ended up beating our pre-Covid budget by a good amount.” OneStream provided some hints of how fast it’s growing last month. According to a press release, its fourth quarter 2020 bookings increase 67% from the year before and 2020 ARR popped 85%. OneStream’s customer based increased 40% last year to over 650 enterprises — including “The Timken Company TKR, Ingram Micro IM, Costco, U.S. Steel, Hillenbrand, Chemours and The Downer Group,” noted the press release. OneStream’s Focus on Delighting Customers How has OneStream been able to grow enough to attract so much capital from KKR? I was surprised to learn that he credited my 2019 book, Scaling Your Startup, with helping OneStream to “do the right thing to scale.” He might have been referring to the idea I described in the first stage of scaling — to work closely with a company that is an early adopter to make sure they love the product and will happily serve as a reference. Before getting into that, Shea has big company work experience but the heart and mind of an entrepreneur. As he told me, “Coding is my passion. I sold my first software program at 22. While I originally aspired to be CFO of a Fortune 500 company, maybe I should have started as an entrepreneur.” He started another company in 2000. As he said, “I started a company with friends. We were successful with every customer each of which became references. We were cash flow positive, never took investment from outside because we did not want to compromise our mission. We sold it in 2006 to Hyperion which was acquired by Oracle ORCL.” After staying with the company, he left to start OneStream in 2010 aiming to fix the problems that diverse accounting systems presented for financial executives trying to close their books, plan, budget, forecast, and analyze accounting data. As he said, “Hyperion was successful at addressing ERP software. We were babysitting non-integrated SAP SAP components — correcting things that weren’t integrated. Our product was on top of ERP systems providing information for decision making — financial reporting, planning, account reconciliation, tax. How do I understand each individual one better and present it in a more consumable format?” Shea was inspired by the iPhone. “I was impressed by the way the iPhone worked. I previously used a Blackberry and the iPhone had it all in one — a flashlight, camera, and music player. We helped find new patterns and changed how the CFO can help all stakeholders and enable the company to continue to grow. Closing books every day has enabled CFOs and companies to think differently,” he said. OneStream spent years getting the right product before it started adding customers. “From 2010 to 2012, we fit the product to the market. Is it viable to make one product that solves all the problems? In 2012 we got a first customer with 1,000 users in 60 currencies. It was a public company and the numbers had to be right. By 2015 we had 10 customers. We had a 60% growth rate over the entire lifecycle. We broke even after two years — became profitable without using debt.” Between 2010 and 2020 we made the transition to software as a service in the cloud. With an annual recurring revenue (ARR) model we faced capital pressure. We modulated as we worked to $100 million in revenue. In 2018 we went to sponsors to see how they viewed the business. They saw we were hyper-focused on product/market fit, we had a strong culture, we were not afraid to hire go-to-market people. We got people in the top five percent of every functional area. We sped up customer’s time to value. By 2018, OneStream had some big companies as customers. These included UPS, Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Post Holdings POST, Fruit of the Loom and The Carlyle Group. It was reaching the $100 million level it needed to go public — but Shea wanted the company to reach $500 million in revenue, according to Crane’s Detroit Business. KKR has helped OneStream in more ways than just providing capital. As he told Crane’s, the deal helped the company hire Bill Koefoed as CFO in November 2019 with a background at Microsoft MSFT and other big technology firms. By December 2019, OneStream’s employee base had scaled from 250 that February to 420. Shea also expected to win government business thanks to KKR Global Institute. That’s because David Petraeus, a retired U.S. Army general and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, joined OneStream’s board after the KKR deal closed. One thing seems clear: OneStream’s focus on keeping customers happy is helping it succeed. According to Gartner IT, one of its customers wrote in June 2020, OneStream offers "an outstanding product! Genuine commitment to product development, customer satisfaction." What does the future hold for OneStream? ”An IPO is a logical outcome,” said Shea.
  23. LONDON, Feb. 24, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Sales and revenues in the aftermarket for automotive applications have been threatened by almost ubiquitous OEM embedded systems, free smartphone applications that replace automotive hardware (e.g., Waze), and inadequate retail strategies. After a drop of 28% in 2020, fostered by the COVIID-19 pandemic, aftermarket hardware shipments will grow by only 12% until 2026, finds global tech market advisory firm ABI Research. "The aftermarket landscape is undergoing a transformation. Multi-application devices struggle to deliver value to the consumer and are dying out, giving place to low cost dedicated hardware that fulfills niche customer requirements not addressed by OEM embedded systems or smartphones. Naturally, niche applications have a lower market opportunity. Thus, the aftermarket will experience market shrinking in the coming years, with more favorable circumstances in emerging economies," explains Maire Bezerra, Smart Mobility & Automotive Research Analyst at ABI Research. "With the dire projections, a portion of the market will stop shipping hardware to become Telematics Service Providers (TSPs) instead, specializing in data crowdsourcing and selling data to B2B players via data marketplaces, especially in Europe with the Extended Vehicle Concept." Stolen vehicle tracking solutions, which accounted for 51% of aftermarket connections in 2020, vary from vehicle recovery related services only, coupled with other telematics services, or associated with an insurance policy. They have the highest adoption among all aftermarket connected car applications and are perfectly suited for countries with a unique combination of a growing economy and high theft rates, such as Brazil. The application is expected to reach 88 million subscriptions by 2026. Consumer infotainment devices accounted for 32% of all aftermarket subscriptions and all aftermarket shipments in 2020. Unlike UBI and stolen vehicle trackers, these solutions are mostly sold via MNOs channels, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, and are easier to sell as they can be integrated into existing clients' data plans for a small monthly added cost. Nevertheless, shipments are in decline due to the increase in smartphone apps and embedded systems. Insurance telematics made 17% of all aftermarket connected vehicle subscriptions in 2020, with a flat growth from 2019. A timid and steady rise will perpetuate in the next years because the UBI segment is yet to achieve maturity. While TSPs such as Octo Telematics and IMS use their data analytics expertise to offer insurers tools to improve driver behavior, insurers' business models lack the required level of customer engagement to secure customer loyalty, resulting in unsatisfactory ROI. Despite the challenges, there are opportunities in the aftermarket, especially concerning data monetization. There is a consensus that valuable driving and driver data generated from diverse data collection methods are not being used to its full potential to generate new revenue streams. Apart from notable examples such as Arity, most TSPs and insurers are still very traditional and lack the marketing approach required to create solid business models. "The transformation of the data collected into actionable knowledge that delivers value to the final consumer or increases profit, such as accurate customer churn prediction or data-driving cross-selling, is the main industry challenge. Moreover, dedicated solutions for underserved players in the value chain, such as keyless services for dealers that enable contactless test drives of vehicles pre-selected online, are a profit-making opportunity," Bezzera concludes.
