Jakarta, CNN Indonesia - The corona pandemic virus has claimed the lives of 20,577 people in the United States, the highest number compared to other countries in the world.

Currently the United States is the country with the most corona virus deaths in the world, even surpassing Italy and China, with a total of 19,468 deaths, as quoted by Worldometer per Sunday (12/4).

The United States recorded 1,920 deaths related to the COVID-19 corona virus during the past 24 hours, according to Johns Hopkins University records on Saturday (11/4) at 20.30 local time.

The number of new deaths is lower than the previous day's 2,108.

with 532,879 cases of infection according to Johns Hopkins University records.

The number of infections in the United States exceeds the number of infections in Spain of 163,027.

To this day, the United States, Spain, Italy, France and Germany are the five countries with the highest number of virus infections in the world.

School closure extended

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Saturday that schools in the largest city of the United States would remain closed until the end of this school year because the corona pandemic virus continues to worry.

De Blasio hopes that the school can start normally at the beginning of the new school year in September.

"Nothing is easy about this decision," the mayor said at a press conference, before adding it "[this decision] will clearly help us save lives."

New York has closed schools on March 16.

This closure affected the learning activities of 1.1 million students in New York, the largest number in the United States.

Families who have a computer that is being lent a city-owned device for online learning; 175 thousand units have been distributed.
