  1. Meta is soon set to go from having just one pair of current-gen smart glasses to two as it adds Oakley specs to sit alongside its Ray-Bans. The Oakley smart glasses have yet to launch, but Meta has already shared several details about the glasses, which suggest they’re more than a fresh coat of paint. Some proper hardware upgrades are present, too. We won’t know their full impact until the Oakley specs launch, but here’s the key differences so you can decide if you want to grab some Ray-Bans now or wait a month or so for the Oakleys to launch – or hope you can snatch up the limited edition pair going up for preorder on July 11. Of course, the most obvious difference between these glasses is their design. Instead of the iconic Wayfarer Ray-Ban design – or the Headliner and Skyler alternative designs Ray-Ban offers – the Oakley is serving us its HSTN glasses (pronounced how-stuhn). At a glance, they do look fairly similar, but the HSTN design is more angular overall. Oakley’s glasses also feature different lenses. You can, of course, pick up a pair with clear, shaded, or transition lenses like you can with the Ray-Bans, or you can snag a pair with Oakley’s special PRIZM lenses. These specially tuned lenses are designed to increase the contrast of your natural vision to help with different sporting endeavors based on the type and color of PRIZM used. This makes it both a fashionable and functional choice. Just like with Meta’s Ray-Bans, however, we expect the premium PRIZM and Transition lenses will increase the cost of Oakley’s smart glasses, more on that below. 2. Intel and its partners revealed a number of new details about the company's upcoming products, such as Diamond Rapids CPUs for data centers as well as Jaguar Shores accelerators for AI at its AI Summit in Seoul, South Korea. Both products are set to rely on next-generation memory technologies, such as 2nd-generation MRDIMM modules and HBM4 stacks, according to Newsis.com. Intel's next-generation Gaudi AI accelerator, codenamed Jaguar Shores — this is the first time Intel has confirmed that this processor will carry the Gaudi brand — will use HBM4 memory from SK hynix, according to a slide shown by the company at Intel's AI Summit. Intel's Jaguar Shores was intended to succeed the company's Falcon Shores GPU in 2026, but since the latter has been cancelled, the company's 2026 Gaudi accelerator for AI will be its first AI GPU since the ill-fated Ponte Vecchio. It is not particularly surprising that Intel's Jaguar Shores will rely on HBM4 memory in 2026, considering it needs high bandwidth to enable AI training and inference for advanced LLMs and LRMs. However, for now, it is impossible to determine how many HBM4 stacks Jaguar Shores will use, as we know nothing else about the product. Another product that we don't know much about is Intel's next-generation Xeon, codenamed Diamond Rapids. This CPU will utilize SK hynix's 2nd-generation 64 GB (16 GB-based) and 128 GB (32 GB-based) MRDIMM modules, although the primary difference between 1st Gen and 2nd Gen MRDIMMs is expected to be performance. Multiplexed rank dual inline memory modules (MRDIMMs) are memory modules that integrate two DDR ranks operating in a multiplexed mode to effectively double performance. To support this, each module includes additional memory devices, an MRCD chip for simultaneous access to both ranks, and MDB chips for multiplexing and demultiplexing data. The CPU communicates with the 1st Gen MRDIMM at 8,800 MT/s transfer rates, but future versions are expected to reach 12,800 MT/s. Internally, all components run at half the external speed, which helps reduce latencies and keeps power consumption under control. These lower latencies significantly improve memory subsystem performance. According to Intel and Micron, a 128GB DDR5-8800 MRDIMM delivers up to 40% lower loaded latency than a 128GB DDR5-6400 RDIMM. With 2nd Gen MRDIMMs, we can expect further performance bumps without significant latency increases. 3. Rare's Everwild, an original game that had apparently been in development for around a decade, has been cancelled. The news was broken by VGC, before being corroborated by IGN sources. Team members were told at the same time as Rare's parent company Microsoft announced another absolutely enormous wave of layoffs: despite it being in rude financial health and having about $80 billion in the bank. VGC's sources say that as part of the so-called restructuring at Rare, some employees are likely to be laid off. Everwild was announced in 2019 but had been in the works for a long time before that. It was never particularly clear what exactly the game was, beyond third-person and pretty looking, and it seems this might have been a problem behind-the-scenes too: after a trailer in July 2020, things went quiet on Everwild, but the creative director left before it was apparently rebooted in 2021 under Rare veteran Gregg Mayles. Spencer's 'hey you're fired' memo to Microsoft staff really takes the cake (you can read more from it here), but one thing it didn't do is go into detail on which studios are going to bear the brunt of them. "Out of respect for those impacted today," said Spencer, "the specifics of today's notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days." I've contacted Microsoft for comment on Everwild's cancellation, and will update with any response. 8. Not everyone knows it, but not everyone needs a ‘Pro' smartphone. Sometimes, you get a Pro or an Ultra smartphone because you simply want the best. Others may simply pick a Pro device because they actually need that camera performance, or the reach of the telephoto camera. There's also another set of people who get a Pro phone because until now, no manufacturer has been gutsy enough to build a premium phone, minus the Pro goods. What would one even call such a phone? Will anyone even buy one if it is expensive and does not deliver on all fronts? Well, this is exactly what Samsung has done. Samsung has taken a gamble just like it did with foldables, and taken a bold step just before Apple did. It has launched the premium Galaxy S25 Edge, a device that is sleek, slim and light. But compared to the regular Galaxy S25 lineup, it has a smaller battery and two rear-facing cameras. I must admit that I was blown away by how light this device felt when I received it for review. But a few weeks in, I am not confident that there is a market for such devices unless they get a few things right. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Design: A lightweight marvel Dimensions - 158.2 x 75.6 x 5.8mm Weight - 163g Durability - IP68 You don't have to believe me. But the Galaxy S25 Edge makes a big and lasting impression only when you hold it. As someone who often uses foldable devices, 5.8mm isn't a big deal, as most foldables like Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold, when opened, are a lot slimmer. 9. Google's Veo 3 is everywhere, making it nearly impossible to tell what videos are real on social media anymore. The clips may be limited to 8 seconds, but with the ability to generate audio too, and stitch multiple clips together, Veo 3 is well and truly the best AI video generator. To use Veo 3, you normally need access to a paid Google AI subscription, but this neat workaround using a Google Cloud trial gives you $300 /£222 worth of Cloud Billing credits and a way to use Veo 3 through Vertex AI. Head to the Google Cloud website and sign up for a free $300 credit trial to unlock higher limits in Vertex AI. You'll need to enter a billing address, and the credits will last for 90 days, but don't worry, you won't be charged unless you actively choose to subscribe. Once you've signed up for your free Google Cloud trial, head to Vertex AI and select Media Studio. You'll now be able to generate Veo 3 videos without spending any money at all. While Veo 3 is seriously impressive, it's worth noting that AI video generation uses a lot of energy, so if you're aiming to be sustainable with your AI usage, you may want to limit this tool to necessity, rather than generate AI slop. 10. Hong Kong-based GPU manufacturer Inno3D, which shares a parent company with Zotac, has just released benchmarks for the RTX 5050. @haruzake5719 shared the performance comparison on X, where the benchmarks showed the new GPU outperforming the RTX 3060 and running almost on par with the last-generation RTX 4060. The RTX 5050 is Nvidia’s entry-level 50-series graphics card, sporting only 8GB of slower GDDR6 and a maximum TDP of 130 watts. This GPU launched last week and is only priced at $249, allowing budget gamers to buy into the RTX 50-series family for 1080p gaming. Although the RTX 5060 also has 8GB of VRAM, it uses GDDR7 and features more CUDA cores for better performance. It also has a higher MSRP of $299, and you can expect add-in board partners to put a premium on some variants. The RTX 5050 goes head-to-head with the Intel B580, which launched in December last year, and has the same price. However, the latter has 4GB more VRAM and a larger memory bus of 192-bit (over the RTX 5050’s 128-bit memory bus). Inno3D’s tests show the RTX 5050 outperforming the RTX 4060 in several 3DMark tests, including Steel Nomad, Speed Way, Port Royal, Fire Strike Ultra, and Fire Strike. The latter garnered better scores in TimeSpy Extreme and TimeSpy, but its advantage sits at less than 10%. The company then ran benchmarks on four games, and although the RTX 4060 exceeded the new GPU in all titles, the FPS numbers weren’t that far off. 11. GSC Game World continues to juggle the patch process for four separate games in the wake of last May's release of the Stalker Enhanced Trilogy—the uprezzed remasters of the original X-Ray Engine games—which left it not only firefighting the myriad issues present in Stalker 2, but also handling the various fan disgruntlements around the new versions of the golden oldies. Patches for the trilogy have been releasing at a fair clip, tackling stuff like blurry graphics (which only seemed to manifest for certain users), missing models, and other foibles. Now, a new patch has taken aim at the longstanding fan gripe of the ads in the games' main menus. Up to now, the remasters siloed off a little corner of their start screens to remind you that other Stalker games exist—even if you already own them. A bit like the ads Bethesda sticks in the top right of its main menus these days. This was both slightly irritating and largely redundant. I can't imagine the number of people actively playing the OG Stalker remasters who didn't know Stalker 2 was out was significant, and it rankled fans who were tired of having marketing forced on them, especially in a space where there was no marketing in the non-remastered games. One of the more po[CENSORED]r mods in the games' Steam Workshop was, of course, the one that removed them. But as of patch 1.1.1, those mods are no longer necessary—GSC seems to have silently yanked the ads out without noting it in the patch notes. Which maybe it should have done, since without noting that the patch is honestly very boring indeed, consisting of fixes for various crashes and some other tweaks that are barely worth mentioning. No more ads, though? That's something to get mildly excited about. Link:https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/good-guy-gsc-wordlessly-deletes-ads-in-stalker-remaster-menus-with-itsy-bitsy-new-patch/
