France striker Kylian Mbappe says he will leave Paris St-Germain at the end of the season. Mbappe, 25, announced the decision in a video released on his social media, external accounts. "I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes," Mbappe said. "It's my last year at Paris St-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks." Mbappe's contract with PSG expires in June and BBC Sport reported in February that he has agreed a deal to join Real Madrid in the summer. The World Cup winner is PSG's record goalscorer with 255 goals and will play his final home game at the Parc des Princes against Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Sunday at 20:00 BST. After that PSG have away fixtures at Nice (15 May) and Metz (19 May) before the French Cup final against Lyon at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille on 25 May. My partner, Paul, and I are dog lovers through and through but our office jobs meant it had never been practical, or fair, to have a dog of our own. In lockdown our working situations changed, however, so we visited Oxford Animal Sanctuary and met Buddy, a labrador/border collie cross. He was nine and very reactive to other dogs. Knowing he had spent three years in and out of kennels, we couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him in what must have been an incredibly stressful environment. So on 4 July 2020 we brought him home. With us, Buddy was docile, gentle and obedient. He never barked or charged around; he was the perfect house dog. A real character, he loved waking us up by grabbing the corner of the duvet in his mouth and ripping it off. He adored playing football and always tried to join in when I attempted Yoga With Adriene or a Joe Wicks workout. But the sanctuary had warned that if he saw another dog he would become agitated and aggressive and want to charge at them. So every time we took him for a walk, Paul would have to go ahead and make sure the coast was clear. In 2022 we moved to a house with a much bigger garden, so we stopped taking Buddy for walks and he enjoyed playing there instead. It saddened me to think of all the experiences he was missing out on, but he couldn’t have been more loved. Then, in August last year, he developed a severe limp in his front left leg and the vet diagnosed arthritis and muscle wastage. He was prescribed painkillers but within a month he was in pain again. We were back and forth to the vets but by this February he was constantly in pain and every day was a struggle. We knew it wasn’t fair on him, so we made the heartbreaking decision to have him put to sleep. That’s when Paul had the idea of arranging for him to visit a pet store, where he could experience a new place filled with delicious smells, sniffs and treats. We just had to make sure there wouldn’t be any other dogs there. We contacted Pets at Home in Bicester, and they gave us a time when there was unlikely to be anyone else around, and agreed to stand guard. Paul and I were in bits on 15 February as Buddy limped through the shop doors to be greeted by a sign written in treats that said: “Hello, Buddy!” He was so excited that he almost lost his limp as he sniffed his way around, wolfing down the trail of goodies the staff had left. After about half an hour we thanked them and left but Buddy didn’t want to get in the car. We said our final goodbye the following morning. Buddy brought us so much joy that we are glad we could give him a final treat. GM Energy demonstrated its EV-as-home-power-supply tech by cutting the electricity at a Beverly Hills mansion outfitted with its new bidirectional charging equipment. The lights went out momentarily while the home switched from grid power to juice supplied by a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition in the garage. The system is available now and will be joined by a GM Energy battery backup module later this year. With the exception of some reclusive cabin dwellers, it's not often that a homeowner happily cuts their domicile off from the electrical grid. And while that's not likely to be a regular occurrence, GM Energy did just that to show how one of its EVs can power a home in the event of an outage, real or otherwise. The General Motors subsidiary is now marketing a V2H (vehicle-to-home) bidirectional charging system. Similar to the one Ford offers for the F-150 Lightning electric pickup, GM Energy’s solution can automatically switch a house from grid power to EV-supplied juice—provided the EV is at home and plugged in, of course. The system works with the RST model of the Chevy Silverado EV now, and support is forthcoming for 2024 models of Chevrolet's Equinox and Blazer EVs, the GMC Sierra EV Denali, and the Cadillac Lyriq. We noticed that the first UItium-based EVs, the GMC Hummer SUV and Hummer pickup, are absent from this list. The chief engineer for the GM Energy system tells us these models could gain support at a later date through a software update, but none is promised as of yet. The system starts with the GM Energy PowerShift Charger. GM EV owners can buy this as a stand-alone unit for normal Level 2 home-to-vehicle charging; enabling V2H requires the aptly named V2H Enablement Kit, which consists of a power inverter, a home hub, and a dark start battery. GM reps tell us the Ultium name is being reserved for the EV architecture technology, while GM Energy will be the name on its home and commercial power products.) Where Can Equipment Go? Just about Anywhere Why aren't those items packaged as one unit? We're told this is to allow for flexibility in locating each component. Because every home's layout and wiring is different, this allows the owner and installer to situate the system's parts where they make the most sense. They're all weatherproof and can be located indoors or out, and in many cases can be hidden in a utility room or somewhere they won't normally be seen. How It Works In normal circumstances when grid power is flowing, the dark start battery is trickle charging to keep itself topped up. Once the power goes out, it kicks into action, providing low-voltage power to the rest of the system, allowing them to communicate with one another and tell the EV to start shifting its power to the home. The PowerShift charging unit essentially runs in reverse, supplying power to the inverter, which then feeds the home hub with AC that it distributes to the home's circuits. When the system is installed—GM has partnered with Qmerit to handle that job—you can decide whether the whole house gets backup power or only certain circuits. The equipment can supply up to 9.6 kW of power, which is plenty to keep the essentials running in most homes—even a 10,000-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion, apparently. The changeover takes a matter of seconds from the lights going out to them coming back on again. In between, LEDs on the various components come alive thanks to the dark state battery, the clicking of relays can be heard as the hub locks out the connection to the grid and routes the supply from the EV to the home's circuits, and then you're back in business. The US government says Israel may have breached humanitarian law in Gaza using American weapons. In a long-awaited report, the state department says it is "reasonable to assess" that US-supplied arms were used in ways "inconsistent" with Israel's obligations. But it says Israel has had to confront an "extraordinary military challenge" fighting Hamas in Gaza. The report, ordered by the White House, was submitted to Congress on Friday. The document says that the US government doesn't have "complete information" to verify its assessment. However it said that given Israel's significant reliance on US-made weapons "it is reasonable to assess" that they had been used since October 7 "in instances inconsistent with its IHL obligations or with established best practices for mitigating civilian harm". Todas las inteligencias artificiales que podemos utilizar a diario para crear textos o generar imágenes como ChatGPT, Copilot (anteriormente conocido como Bing Chat), Midjourney, DALL-E y demás, realizan el proceso de computación en la nube, en los servidores de estas empresas, por lo que su rendimiento y, sobre todo, la privacidad, dejan mucho que desear. Afortunadamente, esto a punto de cambiar cuando conforme las NPUs (unidades de proceso neuronal) se conviertan en algo habitual en los equipos que se lancen al mercado en los próximos años, equipos que deberían cumplir una serie de requisitos para ser considerados PCs con IA entre los que encontramos (además de una NPU para ejecutar Copilot de forma local), un botón dedicado en el teclado junto a una CPU y GPU. Según afirma Intel, tras mantener varias reuniones con Microsoft, la idea de la empresa con sede en Redmond es que los procesos de IA se ejecuten en la NPU directamente dejando de lado la CPU y GPU para que la duración de batería, y, por ende, el consumo de energía no sea tan grande como para reducir la duración de la batería. Hace unos meses, se filtró un documento interno de Microsoft en el que se afirmaba que los PCs con IA necesitarán de un mínimo de 16 GBs de memoria RAM para poder utilizar Copilot en local y que, para poder hacerlo, el equipo necesita de una NPU, pero, ese momento, no se filtró que potencia sería necesaria, aunque circulaban diversos rumores al respecto. Para poder ejecutar Copilot en local será necesario que la NPU integrada en el procesador que ofrezca una potencia de 40 TOPS. De momento, el único procesador que cumple con estas especificaciones de potencia es la nueva gama de procesadores con arquitectura ARM de Qualcomm, con el modelo Snapdragon X Elite que ofrece 45 TOPS de rendimiento y que llegarán al mercado finales de este año. Desconocemos cuál será la potencia que ofrecerá el modelo Snapdragon X Plus, un procesador aún más potente que el X Elite que llegará en 2025. Pero también se pueden convertir en un serio foco de peligros relacionados con nuestra privacidad y seguridad en Internet. A lo largo de los años han aparecido múltiples métodos y estrategias por parte de los atacantes para hacerse con nuestros datos privados. A partir de ahí se utilizan para robarnos, vendérselos a empresas, y otros muchos usos mal intencionados. En estas mismas líneas os vamos a hablar de una técnica conocida como vishing con la que estos atacantes intentan estafarnos para hacerse con esos datos privados, información que no deseamos que caiga en malas manos. Es posible que nunca hayáis escuchado hablar esta técnica maliciosa, por lo que quizá habéis sido víctimas sin saberlo. De hecho los atacantes pueden emplear dos maneras diferentes, ambas relacionadas con este tipo de estafas. A continuación os vamos a describir lo que es realmente el vishing y cómo evitar que nadie se haga con nuestros datos personales. Estos son los dos métodos de vishing más habituales El primero de los métodos que os vamos a mencionar se lleva a cabo a través de una llamada que recibimos al móvil, en realidad son 2 llamadas. La primera supuestamente nos la hace nuestra compañía de electricidad para informarnos acerca de una subida importante de los precios. Evidentemente esto es algo que no sienta bien a casi nadie. De ahí que poco después recibimos una segunda llamada en teoría de la competencia ofreciéndonos unas tarifas mucho más interesantes. Aprovechando el momento en el que estamos un tanto más susceptibles, en multitud de ocasiones proporcionamos los datos solicitados por la supuesta nueva compañía que nos va a hacer ahorrar un dinero en electricidad. Evidentemente llamadas son falsas y las realizan los mismos atacantes. Todo para hacerse con información personal sensible como nuestros datos bancarios e identificativos. De manera paralela el segundo método relacionado con el vishing se lleva a cabo a través de un mensaje de texto SMS. En el mismo los atacantes intentan meternos miedo por ejemplo a través de un supuesto acceso no permitido a nuestro usuario de la web bancaria. Junto al mensaje se adjunta una URL con la web legítima de nuestro banco para así hacernos confiar. En ese instante recibimos una llamada telefónica, supuestamente de los responsables de nuestra entidad bancaria, una vez hayamos pinchado en el mencionado enlace. A partir de ahí se solicitan los datos de acceso a nuestras cuentas digitales, con los que caemos en la trampa. Cómo evitar que nos estafen con este método Lo primero que debemos tener en consideración es que nuestro banco nunca nos va a solicitar la clave de acceso completa para acceder a nuestro usuario. Por tanto si recibimos alguna llamada, aunque nos pueda parecer legítima, deberíamos colgar de inmediato. Lo que sí nos pueden solicitar es parte de determinados códigos de acceso, pero nunca la clave en su totalidad. Y lo mismo sucede con las claves de acceso a otras plataformas digitales como por ejemplo sucede con la compañía eléctrica, telefónica, etc. Al mismo tiempo antes de proporcionar cualquier dato de este tipo, es recomendable que nos pongamos en contacto con la empresa que nos está solicitando estos datos para asegurarnos. grew up on a bleak and windy smallholding in Cornwall, deep in the Methodist farming hinterland between the Lizard and Land’s End. We had pigs, cows, geese and hens, dogs and cats, 13 acres and no money. Aged eight, I was told I could have my own kitten, and was taken to a tumble-down granite barn belonging to the sister of one of our neighbours. There I fell for a grey-green tabby. Taking him home that Saturday morning, I was the happiest girl in the world. During lunch a rat-a-tat-tat of potential names gunned out of my mouth in hope of my parents’ approval. Fluffy? Toffee? Each met with gagging noises. Later I played with him as my parents watched the Ascot races on our tiny black-and-white TV. In the mix, running the Coventry Stakes, was a handsome bay called Tachypous (meaning “swift-foot” in Greek). My parents, lovers of Greek and Roman history, seized upon this, and before I knew it my kitten was called Tachypuss. My brother was often away at school, so our farmyard, barns and fields had been a solitary empire for me until Tachypuss began to follow me about. We clambered over hay bales together and po[CENSORED]ted wobbling castles made of straw. We were followed through fields by our wonderful pigs and corralled and trapped in the barn by our terrifying geese. Sometimes Tachs and I would “drive” the rusting, three-wheeled John Deere tractor in the homefield to pastures new, or swing on the tyre in the barn. At night he’d lie across my neck, purring loudly, his dense fur smelling absolutely divine. Being a child who liked styling things, I dressed him up with scarves and little hats I’d made from paper. In the blink of an eye Tachs was turned into Lawrence of Arabia, or the boxer Muhammad Ali. At mealtimes the gangster Al Capone might make a surprise appearance at our kitchen table, followed by a strangely be-whiskered baby in a pram, or perhaps a fortune teller … These games amused my often taciturn father, who, as well as having an excellent sense of humour and running the farm, was a toymaker. This lifelong passion meant that our Christmas Day sausages were delivered by railway on the kitchen table, and the time my brother and I tried to ride one of our pigs was turned into a model – the girl and boy bouncing on the pig’s back as you turned the pig’s tail. This is why, for various Christmas and birthday presents, my cat was immortalised as Muhammad Ali boxing the head of our other cat, Kit-E-Kit, or as Al Capone shooting Kit-E-Kit, or as Lawrence of Arabia and his Bedouin friends. World governing body Fifa is facing the threat of legal action from world players’ union Fifpro and the World Leagues Association – which includes the Premier League – if it continues with plans to host a 32-team Club World Cup at the end of next season. They say the global football calendar is “now beyond saturation, to the point that national leagues are unable to properly organise their competitions" while "players are being pushed beyond their limits, with significant injury risks and impacts on their welfare". BBC Sport reported in December that the PFA was taking legal advice over the lack of consultation over an increasingly congested calendar and the impact that was likely to have on its members. PFA chief executive Maheta Molango has been part of a series of high-level discussions over the intervening period, including the European Leagues general assembly last month, when Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said the calendar was ‘at tipping point’. Next season, all three European club competitions will be expanded to 36 teams. The Champions League and Europa League will have eight first phase games compared to the current six. It is possible a club would have to play 17 matches to win either competition. Manchester City and Chelsea are among the 12 European representatives at the expanded Club World Cup, to be held in the United States in June and July next year. In a letter addressed to Fifa president Gianni Infantino and general secretary Mattias Grafstrom, seen by BBC Sport, Fifpro and the World Leagues Association say if Fifa extends its own competitions then it should alter others. It adds that "imposing the burden of adaptation on national leagues and players is inherently abusive" and is "jeopardising national leagues and affecting the health and wellbeing of players". However, BBC Sport understands Fifa believes it has taken into account player welfare with their scheduling programme. It argues that, in a country that has an 18-team league with one cup competition - like Germany - the Club World Cup and Intercontinental Cup would only account for 2.3% of matches played at club level over the course of the season. It also believes the influential European Clubs’ Association backed the Club World Cup plans in a statement in December. Fifpro and the World Leagues Association believe they have already provided Fifa with ample opportunity to address their concerns. However, in their letter they state clearly that if Fifa "refuses to formally commit to resolving the issues" at its council meeting in Bangkok on 17 May, members will be advised "on the options available to them". "These options included legal action against Fifa," they said. The Fifa council meeting in Thailand will see all 211 member associations get together, with a vote on the host nation or nations of the 2027 Women's World Cup set to take place. Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered on Thursday in the Swedish city of Malmo to protest against Israel's participation in the Eurovision song contest. Tecno Camon 30 series will be unveiled in India soon. The company has confirmed the launch of the lineup in the country. However, Tecno has not revealed which models will see an India launch. El fabricante de procesadores móviles Qualcomm, presentó a finales del año pasado, la gama de procesadores Snapdragon X Elite, una gama de procesadores con arquitectura ARM destinada a equipos portátiles cuyo lanzamiento al mercado está previsto para el segundo semestre de 2024 y con los que quiere competir con los procesadores M3 de Apple, procesadores también basados en arquitectura ARM. La compañía con sede en Cupertino lanzó su primer procesador con arquitectura en 2021, por lo que Qualcomm llega 3 años tarde, aunque eso no significa que lo haga con menor rendimiento ya que las primeras pruebas de rendimiento en un Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge que se han filtrado, apuntan a que esta nueva gama de Qualcomm está dispuesta para plantar cara a la gama M3 de Apple. Procesadores ARM en videojuegos Esta nueva gama de procesadores con arquitectura ARM está diseñada para equipos ultra portátiles, equipos que no están diseñados para utilizarse para jugar, sino para ofrecer la mayor autonomía posible en el menor espacio. Sin embargo, desde Qualcomm apuntan a que los usuarios que confíen en estos procesadores no tendrán ningún problema a la hora de jugar y, obviamente, a la hora de utilizar las aplicaciones que actualmente utilizan. Cuando Apple presentó la gama M1, los desarrolladores se vieron obligados a convertir sus aplicaciones para que fueran compatible con la arquitectura ARM. Para que los usuarios pudieran seguir utilizando las aplicaciones diseñadas para arquitectura Intel, Apple lanzó Rosetta 2, un emulador que permitía ejecutar aplicaciones creadas para procesadores Intel en equipos con procesadores ARM. Esta última es la opción recomendada para los desarrolladores tanto de aplicaciones como de videojuegos para ofrecer el mejor rendimiento y menor tiempo de carga en procesadores ARM. La emulación, al fin y al cabo, es un entorno que simula un hardware concreto y que consume una serie de recursos que se le están quitando a la aplicación que ejecutamos, de ahí que esta última opción sea la recomendada. En estos momentos la tecnología alcanza a todo tipo de dispositivos tanto de sobremesa como móviles. Además la gran mayoría de ellos tienen conexión a Internet con las ventajas y peligros que todo ello trae consigo. A continuación os hablaremos de un tipo de ataques que cada vez son más comunes y peligrosos. De hecho en estas mismas líneas os vamos a hablar del smishing, una técnica de ataque cada vez más utilizada y común de la que seguro muchos de vosotros habéis sido víctimas sin daros cuenta. Como suele ser habitual, en este caso los atacantes lo que buscan es hacerse con datos privados para hacer un mal uso de los mismos, venderlos, o incluso robarnos dinero. A continuación os vamos a explicar de qué se trata y cómo podréis evitar todo ello en la medida de lo posible. Qué es el smishing y cómo nos llega Lo primero que debemos tener en consideración es que en este caso concreto nos referimos a un tipo de ataque informático que en la mayoría de las ocasiones nos llega a través de un SMS al móvil. Por tanto este tipo de dispositivos que llevamos en el bolsillo casi siempre, son los que se utilizan como vía de llegada para este tipo de malware. De hecho podríamos decir que esta es un término que viene de la combinación de SMS y phishing. Por tanto podríamos afirmar que el smishing es un derivado de los conocidos ataques phishing centrados en los mensajes cortos que llegan en nuestro móvil. De esta manera los atacantes envían mensajes de texto engañosos con el fin de convencer de un modo u otro a las potenciales víctimas para compartir información personal y financiera. Precisamente por todo ello os decíamos antes que seguramente en más de una ocasión habéis sido víctimas, o al menos os han intentado engañar con esta técnica de ataque. Cuáles son los objetivos de estos ataques Evidentemente el mensaje de texto o SMS del que os hablamos no viene vacío. El mismo nos llega a través de un ciberdelincuente simulando ser una entidad legítima como una red social, nuestro banco, la compañía eléctrica, una institución pública, etc. Todo ello tiene como principal objetivo robarnos información privada que luego se vende o se usa para algún tipo de estafa. En la mayoría de las ocasiones este mensaje incluye una web falsa donde se solicitan los datos personales que se desean robar, incluidos los bancarios. Aquí también se pueden incluir informaciones relacionadas con la acreditación en diferentes servicios online que posteriormente se envían al servidor del atacante. Así, al hacer clic en estos enlaces falsos, es cuando se descarga software o aplicaciones dañinas al terminal. Y es que al igual que los ataques phishing basados en el correo electrónico, estos SMS engañosos parece que vienen de fuentes fiables. Además utilizan técnicas de urgencia, curiosidad o miedo para mani[CENSORED]r a la víctima y que así proporcione los datos personales casi sin darse cuenta. Aquí se incluyen documentos oficiales como el DNI o el permiso de conducir, credenciales de acceso a plataformas, nuestro número de la Seguridad Social, o incluso datos bancarios. No solo eso, en ciertas ocasiones el mensaje de texto que os comentamos del ataque tipo smishing, nos invita a llamar a un número de teléfono. Ya sea por el miedo o la urgencia que intenta hacernos sentir el SMS, no nos damos cuenta de que se trata de un número de tarificación especial. Tipos habituales de smishing Este es un tipo de ataque que lleva varios años entre nosotros intentando engañar a millones de víctimas de todo el mundo. De ahí que haya varios formatos para intentar convencer a las potenciales víctimas de que compartan sus datos privados, y son los siguientes: Verificación de cuentas. En este caso la potencial víctima recibe un mensaje donde la empresa supuestamente de confianza nos advierte sobre actividades no autorizadas y nos insta a verificar los datos personales de la cuenta. Premios. También nos puede llegar un SMS falso en el que nos notifican que hemos ganado un premio y para reclamarlo debemos proporcionar datos personales. A veces incluso nos piden una pequeña cantidad de dinero para cobrar luego el total. Soporte técnico. Aquí los usuarios reciben un mensaje advirtiéndoles de un problema con el dispositivo y nos hacen llamar a un número de asistencia técnica. Fraude bancario. En principio aquí recibimos un mensaje de nuestro banco advirtiendo sobre transacciones no autorizadas o sospechosas y nos solicitan las correspondientes credenciales de acceso a nuestra cuenta. Estafas fiscales. En las fechas en las que hacemos en la declaración de la renta se convierten en habituales los SMS supuestamente de la Agencia Tributaria. Estos amenazan con sanciones e invitan a los usuarios a proporcionar datos personales o financieros para evitarlas. Así evitas las estafas de este tipo Cada vez estamos más acostumbrados a este tipo de ataques, pero sigue habiendo víctimas engañadas por los atacantes. De ahí que sea preferible que tomemos algunas medidas para así evitar el smishing del que os hemos hablado en estas líneas. Lo primero es no entrar en pánico cuando recibimos un mensaje de texto de estas características. En caso de duda siempre es recomendable ponernos en contacto con la entidad que supuestamente nos lo envía para confirmar la procedencia del mismo. Por ejemplo esto lo podemos hacer a través del teléfono oficial de la entidad. Además es importante saber que la Agencia Tributaria, nuestra compañía eléctrica o el banco, nunca nos pedirá credenciales de acceso por esta vía ni por ninguna otra. A su vez nunca deberíamos proporcionar nuestros datos bancarios ni cuando la entidad nos los pida vía mensaje de texto o correo electrónico. Es más, generalmente si nos fijamos en las direcciones de Internet adjuntas a estos SMS, enseguida nos daremos cuenta de que no son legítimas.
