Electric cars are far from becoming mainstream, but they’re definitely not going away. Battery technology is – slowly – improving and electric cars have all the best tech in them, whether it’s autonomous driving or other driver convenience features such as having Alexa or Cortana built in as a voice-activated assistant. Here are the best new electric cars coming in 2017.

Toyota Yaris (May 2017) Toyota has updated its four-year-old Yaris hatchback with refreshed exterior styling, a new naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine to replace the current 1.33-litre unit, and tweaked trim levels. The hybrid version of the Yaris has also recieved updated to its chassis in order to make it quieter and more refined for passengers. Inside, a new range of upholsteries, colours and trim details are available, along with a new layout for the instruments - two analogue dials either side of a 4.2in colour screen.
