  2. Rabat - Morocco’s embassy in Kiev has issued a new set of free-toll phone numbers for Moroccans attempting to evacuate Ukraine through land border crossing points. Given the closure of the Ukrainian air space, Morocco’s embassy in Kiev has instructed Moroccans in Ukraine to head for the closest land crossing-points joining Ukraine and Poland, Romania, Slovakia, or Hungary. For Moroccans going through Poland, the embassy invites Moroccan nationals to address any inquiries to the following phone number: 008003211419. As for Moroccans attempting to evacuate through Romania, they can use the following free-toll phone number: 0800410139. Moroccan nationals closer to the Slovakian border can contact Morocco’s embassy in the country through the following phone number: 0800601748. Moroccans attempting to return to Morocco through the Hungarian land border may access embassy assistance through the following phone number: 0680216008. Previously, Morocco’s foreign affairs ministry announced yesterday that it was in the process of coordinating with embassies in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania to guarantee access of Moroccan nationals through said borders without the need for vaccination proof or visas. In another statement today, Morocco reiterated support for the territorial integrity of member states of the United Nations, with Morocco’s foreign affairs ministry commenting on the Ukraine invasion earlier today in an official press release. The diplomatically-crafted statement steered clear of speaking in support of either Ukraine or Russia, with both countries being important diplomatic and economic partners for Morocco. The statement explained, however, Morocco has been following the recent escalations “with concern,” and that the country “encourages all initiatives and actions promoting a peaceful settlement of conflicts.” With many reports pointing to the increasing possibility of a Russian offensive in Ukraine in much of the past weeks, Morocco’s foreign ministry has been mainly focused on evacuating Moroccan citizens from Ukraine. Morocco’s embassy in Kiev has long issued instructions for all Moroccans residing in Ukraine to evacuate the country following a series of reports from US intelligence indicating the build-up of Russian troops along its Ukraine border.

  4. Cannon Keys wants the Bakeneko65 to be your first custom keyboard. It’s designed to redefine what kind of quality you should expect from an entry-level keyboard kit, name-checking the classic Tofu from KBDFans right on the product page. Starting at $144.99, it’s less expensive than the Tofu, but includes a more flexible mounting system, FR4 plate and stabilizers in the box, as well a nice, zippered travel case to take it on the go. Toppling a giant like the Tofu is never easy. Following the po[CENSORED]r Bakeneko60 we reviewed last year, the Bakeneko65 brings back all of the things we loved about that keyboard and makes a few important changes, like a new powder-coated finish and the addition of a silicone or zinc weight for heft and acoustics. The novel o-ring mounting system and carefree assembly also make their return. It’s a great keyboard kit for newcomers, but it’s not without a few drawbacks you’ll want to keep in mind. Design of the Bakeneko65 The Bakeneko65 is an aluminum keyboard kit designed to balance quality and affordability. It’s the same design principle that guided the original Bakeneko60 and made it such a po[CENSORED]r option throughout last year. Like that keyboard, it uses an o-ring mounting system that adds softness to the typing experience and removes the need for any screws outside of the USB port. It’s one of the simplest assemblies I’ve encountered in a custom keyboard kit and is a godsend when testing and applying different mods. As the name implies, the Bakeneko65 is a compact keyboard with a 65-percent layout. Like the 60-percent Bakeneko60 or mega-po[CENSORED]r Ducky One 2 Mini, this layout is all about space-savings, leaving the function row and dedicated number pad on the cutting room floor. Such a small layout can be good for certain games but can make getting work done difficult. The Bakeneko65 answers this by restoring the arrow cluster and column of four navigation and editing buttons on the right side of the keyboard. The kit itself is very simple. It comes with an aluminum case that doesn’t require screws to support the plate and PCB. You also have the hot-swappable PCB, fiberglass plate, o-ring, and Cherry clip-in stabilizers. All of this comes packaged in a semi-hardback travel case that retails for an additional $35 when purchased separately. The only things you’ll need to bring yourself are switches and keycaps, like with most other custom keyboard kits, which are available at the Cannon Keys store as in-stock purchases so you can check everything out at once. The case has been upgraded for this release. Like the Bakeneko60, to save on production costs and keep the price low, it’s made from cast aluminum instead of CNC milling. The finish has been upgraded with powder coating for the three main colors, black, whitish, and dark grey. The lavender and blue options are both still painted. Either color process is a downgrade from the anodization found on more expensive kits but, like the use of molding instead of CNCing, is done to keep the price accessible. Both processes can lead to surface imperfections, though, and my unit actually did have some minor pitting along the edges. It’s minor enough that I wouldn’t have noticed had I not been actively looking for this review. Another new upgrade with the Bakeneko65 is that it now supports a built-in weight. When you buy the keyboard, you’re able to choose whether you would like a silicone or zinc weight (+$20). For this review, I was sent the silicone weight but have seen pictures of the zinc weight, which appears to lack any kind of aesthetic finish. It is heavier, however, and will add a more premium heft to the keyboard. The PCB used in this kit supports hot-swappable switches and per-key backlighting. There are no frills, like flex cuts, but the switches are south-facing for wide compatibility with aftermarket keycap sets. The backlighting is also warm-white only, so there’s no RGB available for deeper color customization. The plate is equally simple. It’s made of FR4, a fiberglass composite that’s more flexible than the typical aluminum or steel plates built into pre-made keyboards. It’s also easier to work with than the soft polycarbonate plates in other entry-level keyboard kits like the KBDFans KBD67 Lite. Unlike the Zoom65, there’s no support for split Spacebar or Backspace. Though you’ll need to bring switches and keycaps, one thing you won’t need to buy separately is stabilizers. Because of the o-ring mounting system, the keyboard is only compatible with clip-in stabilizers. Cannon Keys includes a set in the box. You’ll need to lube these stabilizers yourself (and clip the feet if you want the best experience), but they work well and will save you a few extra dollars versus buying them separately. Assembling the Bakeneko65 Assembling the Bakenko65 is very straightforward. Cannon Keys doesn’t have an assembly guide published yet but I was able to follow the manual published for the Bakeneko60 without difficulty. The entire process took me about 40 minutes but complete newcomers should plan on an hour (not including lubing switches or preparing stabilizers). The most difficult part of the process was installing switches. Since the plate and PCB don’t screw together, they’re held in place by the switches themselves. You’ll need to mount the outer switches first, snapping them into the plate and aligning them with the hot-swap sockets. It’s a bit more complicated than most installs that attach the plate and PCB with standoffs, but once enough are installed to support the plate, the rest of the switches go in like normal. Because of the o-ring mounting system, the keyboard only supports clip-in stabilizers. Unlike plate mount stabilizers (commonly found on pre-built keyboards), these still attach to the PCB. Instead of screwing into place like most PCB-mount stabs, the front foot of each snaps open when pressed into place to hold it firmly on the PCB. With the plate and PCB assembled, the o-ring simply wraps around the assembly. It slots into the space between the plate and PCB, resting on the outer switches to stay in place. It protrudes around the edges to create the friction fit that holds it in the case. Once it’s wrapped, you simply press it down into the case, wrapping around the arrow key blocker, and it’s set. Just don’t forget to install the USB daughterboard and plug it into the PCB before doing so. This tiny circuit board comes with the kit and screws into the bottom of the case with four screws. A detachable JST cable connects it to the PCB. This step needs to be done before pressing the PCB down and is the entirety of work that needs to be done to prepare the case. Typing Experience on the Bakeneko65 As a barebones keyboard kit, you’ll need to bring your own switches and keycaps. Both of these will impact your typing experience, as will your choice of weight. The o-ring mounting system does a good job of softening keystrokes and damping typing sounds. I would still recommend lubing switches for the smoothest sound possible, but I was impressed by the acoustics of the box given the complete lack of sound dampening foam. Your choice of weight will make an impact on the sound of the keyboard. The silicone weight I tested dampened keystrokes nicely and really helped to mitigate any sense of hollowness in the case. The zinc weight, on the other hand, won’t have the same absorption qualities, so you can expect a sharper and possibly more reverberant sound profile. Early user reports also indicate this is the case. For my testing, I built the Bakeneko65 with Wuque Studio Onion switches and Cannon Keys’ store-brand NicePBT keycaps in Greyscale. Typing with this combination was comfortable and satisfying. The keycaps are thick and slightly textured which feels nice under the finger. They also have dye-sublimated legends, which will never fade. The thickness of the keycaps also lends them a satisfyingly deep sound when bottoming out that I enjoyed. The Wuque Onion switches came pre-lubed and were enjoyable smooth right out of the box. Adapting to the Bakeneko65 from my current daily driver, the Meletrix Zoom65, was seamless. The layout and spacing of the keys take no liberties, so there wasn’t any learning curve when I swapped over for this review. The front height is also low enough that I didn’t need to use a wrist rest to feel comfortable using it. My typing speed remained consistent with my average of 110 WPM on MonkeyType. Compared to the Bakeneko60, there is less flex and bounce to the typing experience. I’m not sure why, but I suspect it’s because the o-ring has to stretch around the blocker separating the arrow keys from the rest of the keyset, which keeps it held taut when installed. There is still a bit of flex when pressed, but the o-ring mount is more about dampening keystrokes than providing movement on this keyboard. No two typists are alike, so Cannon Keys provides a way to tailor this typing experience further through alternate o-rings. Every kit comes with a medium-density (50A) o-ring. For another $5.50, you can buy a softer 30A ring or a firmer 70A ring. The changes to the typing experience are subtle but noticeable. I opted for the 30A ring after testing the stock option to get closer to the original Bakeneko60’s levels of bounce. It doesn’t get all the way there, but is noticeably softer than the 50A o-ring. Gaming Experience of the Bakeneko65 The Bakeneko65 isn’t a gaming keyboard, but as we’ve seen from many keyboard kits of this type, it will work just fine for gaming provided you don’t need advanced software features. There are no macro keys or extra ports to plug in a mouse or gaming headset, so what you’re getting here is just a quality set of keys to hack away at your favorite games. In my testing, I was able to play Call of Duty: Vanguard without feeling like I was at any disadvantage compared to a dedicated keyboard. Of course, I’m not a competitive player and the technical responsiveness of the keyboard isn’t going to compete with the incredible 8,000 Hz polling rate or optical switches of the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL, but from what I could actually feel, they performed identically. The biggest asset the Bakeneko65 has going for it is its programmability. With QMK or VIA, you can easily remap keys or create custom layouts for individual games. You can also record macros, though this is more complicated than with competing gaming software, like Corsair iCUE. Software for the Bakeneko65 The Bakeneko65 doesn’t have any software of its own. Instead, it uses QMK, an open-source firmware that lets you remap keys, assign macros, and control lighting. It applies these changes to the keyboard itself, which means you don’t need software running in the background once it’s programmed. It’s a great fit if you like to minimize background apps or use your keyboard with PCs that don’t allow software to be installed. The downside is that applying these changes requires flashing a custom firmware file to the keyboard, which is a nerve-wracking process as an error can leave your keyboard bricked. To remedy this, the Bakeneko65 comes with native support for VIA. VIA is a standalone app that communicates directly with the keyboard’s processor to apply changes immediately, no flashing required. Because of this, VIA compatibility has become one of the biggest expected features for custom keyboard kits. The Bakeneko65 is a very good choice for newcomers to the hobby. It may not have the same level of bounce as the original Bakeneko60, but makes up for it with a more functional layout for productivity and gaming. It’s a simple board, however, and lacks some amenities you’ll find in the competition, like sound-damping foam. For slightly more, you can pick up the Meletrix Zoom65 later this year. That keyboard offers a similar level of flex but adds in multiple layers of Poron foam to dampen keystrokes and enhance the sound. It also comes with switches, keycaps and a volume knob to add extra value for its higher price. The Keychron Q2 is another great option with a more traditional gasket mount for around the same price (but is more expensive with switches and keycaps). Since the release of the Bakeneko60 in April of last year, the budget-friendly all-aluminum custom keyboard market has become more competitive. There are more great options to choose from, and, as a result, the simple design of the Bakenko line isn’t as special as it used to be. Finding those options in stock can still be challenging, however, and the Bakeneko is still the easiest to take apart and put back together for modding. If you don’t mind a kit that’s light on frills but delivers a good typing experience, it’s a solid choice for a first custom keyboard kit.
  5. Citibank customers are now being targeted in a phishing campaign by scammers impersonating the bank online. According to Bitdefender, the cybersecurity firm's Antispam Lab recently observed thousands of phony email messages sent to the bank's customers with the aim of stealing their personal information and online credentials. While these campaigns are primarily focused on the US with 81 percent of the fraudulent messages sent ending up in the inboxes of American Citibank customers, they have also reached the UK (7%), South Korea (4%) and a limited number even made it to Canada, Ireland, India and Germany based on Bitdefender's internal telemetry. When it comes to the origin of these phishing campaigns, 40 percent of the fake emails appear to have been sent from the US while 13 percent originated from IP addresses in Mexico. Instilling a sense of urgency In order to trick Citibank customers into opening their emails, the cybercriminals behind the campaign use email subject lines that try to instill a sense of urgency including “Account Confirm Confirmation Required,” “Second Reminder: Your Account Is On Hold,” “Security Alert: Your Account Is On Hold,” “Urgent: Account Confirmation Required,” and “Urgent: Your Citi Account Is On Hold”. Although some of the phishing emails used in the campaign utilize the official Citibank logo to appear more legitimate, the scammers behind it failed to put in the effort needed to spoof the sender's email address correctly or fix any of the punctuation errors in the email body. Another tactic used to make these phishing emails to look like they're coming from Citibank itself is citing fake transactions or payments and even suspicious login attempts to trick potential victims into verifying their accounts. However, clicking on the verify button actually takes victims to a perfectly cloned version of the official Citibank landing page where they can log in using their user ID and password. If a Citibank customer goes this far though, the cybercriminals then harvest their credentials to use in future attacks. Responding to fake email alerts from Citibank or any other financial institution can lead to serious consequences including identity theft and fraud. To avoid getting duped, users should carefully examine the body of such emails for typos as well as check the sender's email address and any embedded URLs before clicking on them.
  6. Rabat - The Spokesperson of Morocco’s government Mustapha Baitas responded today to concerns regarding the situation of Moroccan citizens and students in Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing military offensive within the country’s borders. Following a government council meeting, Baitas told the press that a 28-member diplomatic team is closely following the situation in Ukraine. “The situation there is still unknown, but the Moroccan embassy in [Ukraine] is working to help Moroccans there,” he said. Commenting on the situation of Moroccan students, the government official highlighted Morocco’s February 12 call for students to return to Morocco amid the crisis. “The embassy recommended all students to come back to Morocco. The country also put two numbers available for students to respond to citizens and students’ questions,” he said. Baitas highlighted that Morocco has had a “vigilance center” team monitoring the situation in Ukraine since February 14. This morning, the vigilance center received 795 calls, Baitas said, adding that all of the questions of the callers have been answered and met. He added that a group of Moroccan students has already returned either by scheduled repatriation flights via Air Arabia Maroc, Royal Air Maroc flights, or through other commercial trips. The official reassured citizens and the press that Morocco will continue to monitor the situation closely, stressing that the embassy will continue to provide the necessary help to students and citizens from Morocco who are still in Ukraine. Morocco World News reached out to the Moroccan embassy in Kyiv for comment on the measures implemented to assist students and citizens in the country amid the crisis. MWN has not yet received any reply from the embassy. Moroccan student in Ukraine Mehdi Amiry expressed concerns regarding the situation in Ukraine in a statement to Morocco World News. The 24-year-old medical student shared frustration about the lack of communication with the Moroccan embassy and consulate in Ukraine. The student lives in Dnipro, a city 223 kilometers from Kharkov, one of the zones attacked by the Russian military. “I have been trying to contact the embassy through the toll numbers available for answering students' questions, but I received no answers,” Amiry told MWN. He added that students were not provided with information regarding their education from the universities they attend in Ukraine. “We don’t know what to do. We have not received any information from our universities. The only thing I received is a document about the foreign students who are still in Ukraine,” he added. Amiry, who lives with a group of other Moroccan students, said all Moroccans are concerned about the situation and are now looking for answers regarding what services are available to them, under such circumstances. The student said he will definitely be among people returning to Morocco if repatriation flights from airlines will be offered again. The student, in his fifth year of medicines, said Ukrainian authorities informed him and his colleagues that they made spaces available to hide in case of further escalation. The students have not been moved to the reported shelters yet. “Me and other students now are emotional wrecks, we are asking the embassy of Morocco to organize repatriation flights as soon as possible,” he concluded. Ukraine has declared it is being invaded by Russia, which in turn claims it is protecting the Russian-speaking po[CENSORED]tion in Ukraine’s east. Footage from the conflict has shown smoke-filled skies following Russian attacks. Ukraine said over 40 Ukrainian soldiers and 10 civilians have died. Ukrainian infrastructure such as airports and military bases have been targeted by Russian airstrikes and artillery attacks, according to incoming reports from the conflict in eastern Europe.

  9. Rabat - Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch has said his cabinet is making significant efforts to preserve citizens’ purchasing power. Akhannouch made his remark amid uproar from citizens regarding the surge in prices Moroccan markets have been experiencing over the past weeks. Citizens have been taking to social media to vent their frustration, with many using government-criticizing hashtags to denounce rising prices of commodities, including cooking oil, among other products. The concerns come just a month ahead of Ramadan, the month of fasting in which many Moroccans will be buying specialty food products to improve their preparation for long fasting hours. Akahnnouch held a meeting on Tuesday night with the government coalition, convening his party National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), and Al Istiqlal Party (PI). Following the meeting, Akhannouch said the government is making efforts to keep prices stable, including by subsidizing a number of “basic goods and services, the prices of which have risen sharply on the international market.” He said the government allocates annual subsidies of MAD 17 billion ($1.80 billion) for butane gas and MAD 14 billion ($1.48 billion) for electricity. Akhannouch added that the government also put in place subsidies of MAD 600 million ($63.59 million) per month for flour and MAD 3 billion ($317.99 million) per year for sugar despite “the difficult international context imposed by COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in the price of oil and other raw materials.” “The government will strive to deal with the difficulties encountered by transport professionals due to the increase in international fuel prices,” Akhannouch said, adding that dialogue will take place with the representatives of professionals in the field to find solutions. Abdellatif Ouahbi, Secretary-General of PAM, echoed Akhannouch remarks, saying that Morocco is currently facing challenges related to low rainfall and rising oil and gas prices internationally. “Several initiatives have been taken to ease the economic pressure on citizens,” Ouahbi said, adding that decisions will be submitted to the government for implementation. Nizar Baraka, the head of the PI party, said that the launch of an exceptional rural support program with a MAD 10 billion ($1 billion) budget will mitigate the effects of delayed rainfall. He said that the initiative will improve the living conditions of the rural po[CENSORED]tion and will mitigate the repercussions of climate challenges impacting agricultural production. Last week, King Mohammed VI launched a MAD 10 billion ($1 billion) program to face the implications of the ongoing drought. The program will also serve farmers affected by the unproductive season.

  12. Rabat - Despite a 32% average hike in investments, Morocco’s economic rebound falls short of expectations partly due to constrained access to financing tools for Moroccan businesses, according to Abdellatif Jouahiri, the governor of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), the Moroccan central bank. Due to extensive bank guarantees, Moroccan businesses face significant challenges accessing bank loans needed for growth ventures, Jouahiri pointed out during a meeting last Tuesday with a parliamentary Commission for Financing and Economic Development. In addition to constrained access to loans, Small and Medium-Sized businesses had to withstand increasing fees on banking services at the height of COVID-induced economic crisis, the BAM governor explained during the meeting. Chaired by the commission president, Mohamed Chaouki, the meeting raised a number of issues pertaining to Morocco’s central bank and the overall investment framework in the country. The meeting focused on access to financing tools for Moroccan businesses and the role of monetary, public policies over the course of the pandemic-induced economic disruptions. During the meeting, Jouahiri presented the programs and initiatives that BAM has launched to support post-pandemic economic recovery, promote entrepreneurship, and stimulate competitiveness. The commission members raised a number of questions concerning the recent hike in consumer prices, and its consequences on consumers’ purchasing power in light of the role BAM plays in maintaining price stability. Jouahri stressed the need for binding efforts between state institutions to increase the growth rate of the national economy, and create jobs in the country. The meeting between BAM and the Commission for Finance and Economic Development is part of a large-scale plan to strengthen cooperation between state institutions to enhance Morocco’s business climate and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the country’s economy.
  13. The thin Mini-ITX form-factor has numerous dimensions-related advantages over regular Mini-ITX for all-in-one and miniature desktops. But thin Mini-ITX motherboards are rare in retail (since many of us enjoy having loads of ports on the back of our PCs), which is why the form-factor has not received wide adoption in the DIY market. Fortunately, Asus quietly unveiled one of the industry's first thin Mini-ITX motherboards for LGA1700 CPUs. Alder Lake, welcome to the ultra-compact desktop class! Since it's aimed primarily at small business desktops, the Asus Pro H610T D4-CSM motherboard is rather unpretentious in terms of features and capabilities. It supports all 12th Generation Core, Pentium, and Celeron LGA1700 processors (up to 65W TDP) and comes with a six-phase digital VRM that uses "high-quality components and rigorous testing to help ensure durability in harsh environments." FanlessTech suggests to use this motherboard for fanless Alder Lake builds, which might be a good idea for HTPCs give Alder Lake's advanced Xe-LP GPU with premium media processing capabilities (12-bit end-to-end video pipeline, AV1/H.264/H.265 decoding, BT.2020 support, HDR10/Dolby Vision,4K/8Kp60 playback). As the Pro H610T D4-CSM name suggests, the motherboard uses an entry-level Intel H610 chipset (so do not expect any premium functionality here) and supports up to 64GB of widely available DDR4-3200 memory (using two SO-DIMM modules). In addition, the mainboard has an M.2-2230 slot for a Wi-Fi module, an M.2-2280 slot for an SSD featuring a PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA interface, and two SATA ports. There is also an LVDS connector for built-in display for cases when the motherboard is used for an AIO desktop or an embedded machine (keep in mind that this motherboard does not come with a watchdog timer, so it is not exactly designed for embedded applications). The connectivity department is relatively modest and comprises a GbE port (using a Realtek controller), two USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors, two USB 2.0 ports, two display outputs (DisplayPort 1.4a and HDMI 2.1), 3.5-mm audio connectors, and a 19V DC input. Meanwhile, the CSM moniker means that the platform belongs to the Asus CSM (corporate stable model) program that ensures continuous 36-months availability, a 6-month end-of-life notification, and Asus Control Center Express software optimized for business/commercial environments to make serviceability easier. Also, the motherboard comes with a TPM module header, has a self-recovering BIOS with event log, a Q-LED diagnostic display, and even a COM debug header. Asus provides no availability timeframe or pricing for the Pro H610T D4 motherboard, but expect the unit to arrive soon and relatively cheap given its modest capabilities.
  14. Some macOS users trying to upload their own files to Google's cloud storage service have been met with copyright violation notices. A disgruntled Reddit user recently reported that a '.DS_Store' file on their Google Drive was flagged by the search giant for violating its copyright infringement policy. Apparently, this isn't the first time this issue has been encountered as macOS users also reported experiencing similar problems last month. For those unfamiliar, .DS_Store is a metadata file that Apple users may see when transferring folders and archives from macOS to other operating systems such as Windows or Linux. MacOS's Finder automatically generates these types of files to store custom attributes and metadata like icon information and the location of background images. Finder then uses this information to render a layout according to a user's preferences. Most of the time, .DS_Store files are hidden within finder in the same way that desktop.ini and thumbs.db files are hidden on Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, Microsoft's Explorer does have settings that enable users to see these 'hidden' files. No known cause At this time, it still unclear as to why Google Drive is flagging DS_Store files for copyright infringement when uploaded to a user's cloud storage. Although BleepingComputer was unable to reproduce the issue, the news outlet believes that Google relying on checksums to keep track of copyright content could have led to a potential hash-collision. If a copyrighted file and a normal file share the same hash it could trigger these false violations. A similar incident occurred recently when Google Drive accidentally flagged almost empty files containing just a few numbers for violating the company's copyright infringement files. According to a Google spokesperson who spoke with the news outlet, the company discovered and fixed the issue that only affected a small number of Drive files back in January. If your files have been incorrectly flagged for copyright violation by Google, don't worry as the company is aware of the problem and a fix should arrive soon.
