  1. Rabat - The Moroccan city of Dakhla will host the Moroccan-US Investment Forum on March 8-9 with the aim of strengthening economic ties between Morocco and the US. The event will also serve as an opportunity to feature potential and investment assets in the region. The Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Council is organizing the event in collaboration with Morocco’s Ministry of Industry. The forum seeks to develop new American direct investments in the fields of agriculture, tourism, mining, and renewable energies, according to a statement from the organizers. About 20 businessmen in the agri-food, renewable energy, finance, and medical technology sectors will participate in the forum. The event will mark sectoral panels by professionals from the public and semi-public sectors to emphasize the region’s thriving business climate and development potential as part of Morocco’s investment strategy. The panels will also tackle trade and industry, tourism and crafts, the Atlantic port and logistics, agriculture and fishing, and renewable energies, according to the organizers. The visit from the US delegation reflects the country’s position on Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara. The US recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over the region in December 2020, and the Biden administration has signaled its commitmentment to upholding the decision. Notably, the US State Department and the official websites of many US government-affiliated institutions have adopted a full map of Morocco in recent months. This is the second delegation to visit the region of Dakhla in less than a month. Last month, a delegation from the US Embassy in Rabat visited both Laayoune and Dakhla to inspect American-sponsored programs in the region. The delegation held meetings with beneficiaries of US-supported economic development projects, including the DakhlaConnect and LaayouneConnect digital platforms, two hubs in charge of attracting local and international investment to the region.

  4. Rabat - Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita has reviewed the country’s efforts in response to the Ukrainian conflict, noting that Morocco is one of the few countries that have mobilized teams to facilitate border crossing and repatriation of its citizens. The community of Moroccan students is among the largest in Ukraine, amounting to 8,000 students, underlined Bourita in a presentation, for the March 3 Government Council, on the Moroccan efforts in response to the Ukrainian war. Bourita recalled that the Moroccan Embassy in Kyiv released a press release on February 12, urging Moroccan citizens residing in Ukraine to return home due to escalation between Ukraine and Russia. In response to the crisis, the ministry of foreign affairs organized five special flights with Royal Air Maroc, allowing 3,000 students to return home. It also created a call center to assist citizens wishing to return to Morocco. To date, the call center has received 6,000 telephone calls while 5,000 Moroccan nationals successfully crossed international borders to neighboring countries, added the chief diplomat. "To accompany the citizens on the ground and provide them with help and assistance, the ministry carried out a general mobilization both at the central level and at the level of the Moroccan Embassy in Kyiv and the Embassies of the Kingdom in the neighboring countries of Ukraine," noted Bourita. The ministry has mobilized ambassadors, diplomatic and consular staff to border access points in Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland to aid incoming Moroccans evacuating Ukraine, and issue passports to nationals in need of urgent travel documents concluded Bourita. The diplomatic efforts to repatriate Moroccan nationals continue as the Moroccan ambassador to Kyiv held a meeting on March 2 with Ukrainian officials along with Egyptian and Palestinian ambassadors to accelerate the evacuation of Arab citizens in Ukraine. Additionally, Royal Air Maroc is preparing for more flights on March 3-4 from Budapest, Bratislava, and Bucharest to Casablanca.

  8. Rabat - Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc has scheduled special flights to repatriate Moroccans stranded in Ukraine. The company said that its special flights are in line with Moroccan authorities' measures, seeking to assist Moroccans in Ukraine. Royal Air Maroc's flights will be operational, starting March 2. Due to the closure of the Ukrainian air space, Royal Air Maroc flights will charge Moroccan students a special fee set at MAD 750 ($75). Royal Air Maroc will launch the special flights with three trips on Wednesday from Romania’s Bucharest, Hungary’s Budapest, and Poland’s capital Warsaw to Casablanca. Royal Air Maroc's special flights are available exclusively for Moroccan nationals in Ukraine and their families transitioning through Romania, Hungary, and Poland crossing points. Tickets are available on the company’s website: www.royalmaroc.com. Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has previously announced that it is coordinating with the country’s embassies in Poland, Hungary, and Romania to help Moroccans to leave Ukraine through land crossing points without the need for vaccine proof or visas, according to an official press release. The ministry also set up a special crisis cell to monitor the situation in Ukraine and deliberate over possible measures to ensure a safe return of Moroccans stranded in Ukraine. The ministry has also set up a list of free-toll numbers to provide instructions for Moroccans seeking to leave the country. Morocco’s embassy in Kiev has instructed Moroccan nationals to evacuate the country ahead of the escalation between Russia and Ukraine. In addition, the government has actively worked to provide special flights through talks with Royal Air Maroc and Air Arabia.
