Living healthy can also assist in treating many types of heart conditions including heart failure, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. LIFESTYLE NEWS - About 80% of all heart diseases that presents before the age of 65, and can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle. While celebrating Healthy Lifestyle Awareness day, the Western Cape Government Health focuses on heart health and by adjusting our lifestyle and eating habits. By doing this, we can restart our heart health and have a new lease on life. The Western Cape Government Health offers services on all platforms to prevent, treat and manage heart conditions. “As Western Cape Government Health, we have taken it upon ourselves not just to deliver healthcare services, but to educate communities about wellness,” explains Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister for Health. “We want to conceptually move away from an all-consuming curative paradigm of treating illness and disease, and to one of prevention, promotion and wellness.” Although we don’t have control over some of the risk factors associated with heart diseases such as family history, sex or age — there are some key preventative steps we can take to ensure we avoid heart problems in the future, says Mbombo, “Our Healthcare 2030 strategy speak is by building resilient communities, and a road to wellness. We can do all we can as the department. Ultimately, we all have to take responsibility for our own hearts' health and follow the guidelines to a healthy lifestyle.” Living healthy can also assist in treating many types of heart conditions including heart failure, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Let us look at the factors that can help to prevent and control heart disease: Exercise Lack of regular physical activity is a risk factor for many diseases, including ; high blood pressure, diabetes, cancers, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD). In comparison to those who exercise regularly, inactive people double their risk of suffering a heart attack, and have a higher risk of dying immediately after an attack. The good news is, that regular exercise can give you the most profound long-term health benefits. How much physical activity is enough? If you’re inactive, doing anything is better than nothing! Studies show that those who have a low fitness level, are much more likely to die early than people who have achieved a moderate level of fitness. If you want to exceed a moderate level of fitness, you need to exercise at least five times a week for 30 to 60 minutes. Healthy eating habits “Eating healthy is a very effective way of preventing heart conditions, and it is a relatively easy adjustment in your lifestyle to try, if you are concerned about your heart health,” explains Stephne van Schalkwyk, dietician for Matzikama Sub-district in the West Coast. “Small changes to your diet can achieve great results, and can assist with overcoming other factors contributing to heart disease, like stress and obesity.” The Heart and stroke foundation of South Africa have the following guidelines for a healthy diet: Eat a healthy, balanced diet including a variety of foods. Eat smaller and more regular meals. Try to include at least five servings of vegetables and fruit every day. Try to include fish as part of your diet at least twice a week. Good examples are: snoek, sardines, tuna, pilchards, mackerel and salmon. Limit the intake of red meat to at least two to three times per week. Regularly include; legumes (beans, peas, lentils and soya) as alternatives to meat. Eat fats sparingly, limiting ‘bad’ fats, such as; butter or fatty meat, and by including more ‘good’ fats in your diet, such as vegetable oils (e.g. sunflower, canola or olive oil), soft tub margarines, avocados, nuts, peanut butter and seeds. Limit the intake of foods high in cholesterol like; organ meats, calamari, shrimps and prawns. Limit intake of refined and sugary foods and beverages. Have at least two servings of low fat or fat free milk and dairy products every day. Use salt sparingly. Intake should be limited to 1 teaspoon a day (5g) – remember that processed foods, e.g. processed meats like viennas and polony, salty snacks such as chips and take-aways also contain a lot of hidden salt. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Drink lots of water every day. Make starchy foods, especially those rich in fibre and wholegrains, part of most meals. Excessive alcohol intake If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Drinking too much alcohol increases blood pressure and causes increased levels of triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood). It may also contribute to the development of obesity, diabetes, liver disease and sudden cardiac death. If you are consuming alcohol, consumption should be limited to 2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink a day for women. One drink is equal to 125ml wine, 340ml beer or 25ml of spirits or liqueur. Smoking Smoking almost triples the risk of heart disease. It narrows blood vessels and expands blood clots. Smoking also leads to Increasing blood pressure, and increasing carbon monoxide levels and by reducing oxygen levels. No amount of smoking is safe for heart health, and the benefits of quitting is not only for your heart’s health, but can also prevent cancer which includes lung and throat cancer. Stress Stress has been linked to an increased risk for heart disease. While we can’t always escape stress, managing stress effectively is important for a healthy lifestyle. Often, we reach for unhealthy foods and snacks, skip our exercise, drink alcohol excessively and turn to smoking to help us deal with stress – all major risk factors for Cardiovascular disease! Fortunately, the benefits of lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, healthy diet and giving up bad habits like smoking and high alcohol intake, is not only good practices for a healthy heart but also to reduce stress. Obesity Being overweight or obese puts you at higher risk for health problems, including; heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers, gallstones and degenerative joint disease. Obesity is caused mainly by taking in more calories (energy) in the diet, that is used in exercise and daily activities. The westernised lifestyle promotes overweight and obese states. We are less active and eat more unhealthy foods, especially processed foods and take-outs. If you’re overweight or obese, you can reduce your risk by successfully losing weight and by keeping it off. Look out for these signs and symptoms of a heart attack: Not all people experience the same symptoms when they suffer a heart attack. Sudden chest pain is the most common symptom of a heart attack. In some cases, mostly in women or people with diabetes, a heart attack can happen without any chest pain. Chest pain can also be caused by several other conditions that affect the stomach, chest wall, muscles or lungs. Ambulance staff or a doctor can do the necessary tests to find out if chest pain is caused by a heart attack or not. Below are the common symptoms of a heart attack. You may experience only one or several of these symptoms during a heart attack. If you are in doubt, get checked out! Symptoms of a heart attack: An overwhelming sense of anxiety. Shortness of breath. Feeling light headed and dizzy. Abdominal pain, feeling sick, or vomiting. The pain can spread to your shoulders, arms, neck or jaw Sweating. Chest pain that could feel like pressure, tightness, discomfort or squeezing. Where do I obtain more information regarding heart health and general wellness? U.S. stocks were mixed Tuesday to start the holiday-shortened week as investors continued to monitor tensions between Russia and Ukraine and await the Kremlin’s next move. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq clawed back into positive territory to trade just above the flatline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average recouped some morning losses but was down 132 points at 33,946.56 in the earlier part of the session. Wall Street was closed for trading on Monday in observance of Presidents Day, but investors will return from the long weekend to a series of new developments on the geopolitical front that are likely to extend the recent pressure on stocks. Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized the deployment of Russian troops into two breakaway pro-Moscow regions in eastern Ukraine after announcing Monday evening he would recognize their independence. The move was seen by the West as a provocation and intensified worries a war was underway. Just last week, the Biden administration warned that recognizing the self-declared "People's Republics" of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine would defy international law and Ukraine's sovereignty and "necessitate a swift and firm response" from America and its allies. President Joe Biden signed an executive order Monday imposing sanctions that target the two Russia-backed separatist regions, specifically prohibiting "new investment, trade and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in" the so-called Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic. In the U.K., Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressing lawmakers in the House of Commons on Tuesday imposed targeted economic sanctions on five Russian banks and three high net-worth individuals in response to the move by Putin. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the "first tranche" of sanctions are aimed at Rossiya, IS Bank, General Bank, Promsvyazbank and the Black Sea Bank when addressing lawmakers in the House of Commons on Tuesday. “There are three different buckets of economic impact of what’s ongoing right now between Russia and Ukraine,” Douglas Rediker, founder of the policy and markets advisory firm Capital Strategies and non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, told Yahoo Finance Live. “The first is the direct impact of a potential Russian invasion and the disruption of commerce and economic activity on the back of that invasion, the second is sanctions, and the third is if we do put on sanctions what the retaliatory measures might be that Russia might impose on the U.S. and Europe.” The conflict creates an added headwind for markets already holding its breath in anticipation of the Federal Reserve’s next move as it looks to tighten monetary conditions to mitigate surging inflationary pressures. A war between Russia and Ukraine could exacerbate inflation and spur other economic disruptions. Robert Schein, chief investment officer of Blanke Schein Wealth Management, argued while the markets have been sensitive to headline risk from Russia-Ukraine tensions, central bank policies remain the most critical concern for investors right now. “We believe the risk of a Russian invasion of Ukraine is overstated, as war invasions are not typically telegraphed in advance and there is usually an element of surprise, which is clearly not the case with Russia-Ukraine,” Schein said in a note. “Federal Reserve policy remains the market's biggest risk and investors are hoping that the Fed can engineer a soft landing, which would involve tightening policy just enough to calm rising inflation.” “The market is in 'wait and see mode,' as investors brace for the Federal Reserve's next move,” he added. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/stock-market-news-live-updates-stocks-edge-lower-as-investors-monitor-russia-ukraine-conflict/ar-AAUa3X9?ocid=uxbndlbing

Microsoft is currently experimenting with two new methods to warn Windows 11 users that they have installed the operating system on unsupported hardware. In the latest test builds of Windows 11, a new watermark has appeared on the desktop wallpaper, alongside a similar warning in the landing page of the settings app. If the test build is running on unsupported hardware, the desktop watermark simply states “system requirements not met,” and appears alongside the build number that is only shown on evaluation or pre-release versions of Windows. It’s similar, but less prominent, to the semi-transparent watermark that appears in Windows if you haven’t activated the OS. Twitter user Albacore first spotted the settings warning earlier this month. It’s not clear if Microsoft intends to enable this desktop wallpaper warning widely, though. The software maker revealed recently that it would test new additions to Windows 11 that might not make the final cut. Still, these new warnings are a sign that Microsoft wants to modify how Windows 11 appears on unsupported hardware. Microsoft’s minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 have been controversial, particularly as the OS only officially supports Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPUs and up. This move left millions of PCs behind, but there’s an easy way to bypass that restriction and install Windows 11. Now anyone who has used that workaround may start to see these warnings in future updates to Windows 11. Microsoft has used similar warnings for unactivated versions of Windows in the past, and restricts features like dark mode, personalization settings, and themes from being modified until a system is activated. Microsoft doesn’t appear to be experimenting with any feature restrictions, and the warnings are so far only subtle ones instead of pop-ups or notifications. https://www.msn.com/en-US/news/other/microsoft-is-testing-a-windows-11-desktop-watermark-for-unsupported-hardware/ar-AAU9xKV?ocid=BingNewsSearch

Key Points Growth in Unity's create solutions segment is speeding up. Its CEO believes its tools will power creativity in the metaverse. Sustained revenue growth will drive long-term shareholder returns Motley Fool Issues Rare “All In” Buy Alert Years ago, it was obvious when something was animated in a movie or video game. Now, it can be difficult to distinguish between what is real and what has been created using state-of-the-art animation software. One company providing creators with this amazing capability is Unity Software (NYSE:U). Not only is Unity involved in cinematics, but it also has a video-game development platform, engineering uses, and augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) solutions. Because of the company's focus on 3D animation, the stock has made its way onto multiple metaverse-themed investment lists. With so many uses, could Unity Software be a decade-defining stock? A key metric is accelerating While Unity is becoming more known for its applications in multiple industries, its gaming segment brings in the bulk of the revenue. Its operate solutions revenue was $195 million during the fourth quarter, making up 62% of total revenue. This segment focuses on monetizing games created with its platform. Content creators have multiple tools to monetize and understand their user base. Armed with these insights, studios can lengthen a game's life span as well as create fewer failures. This segment is well established, yet still grew at a 44% year-over-year clip during the fourth quarter. The segment many investors have their eye on is the create solutions division. Within its domain are its industry-specific tool kit -- like the ability to create an AR or VR space from building information models (BIM) -- as well as metaverse aspirations. Although Unity is still a solid company without this segment, the growth prospects are more exciting than the operate solutions component. In the fourth quarter, the division's revenue increased year over year by 49%, an acceleration from previous quarters. The St. Paul Animal Shelter is hoping predictable annual funding from the Town of St. Paul will help the non-profit continue with its efforts to care for animals. ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Animal Shelter continues to battle through a tough couple of years with reduced fundraising opportunities due to the pandemic, combined with a continual need to help animals that come into the organization's care. During the Feb. 14 Town of St. Paul council meeting, representatives from the non-profit's board Anna Leskiw and Cheryl Mailloux put forward a request for annual funding to help stabilize the organization. Leskiw noted that the board looked at how other animal shelters are supported by municipalities and found that many do receive yearly support. Mailloux explained that the shelter has been trying to fundraise, and currently has a number of initiatives in the works, such as a 50/50 raffle that is underway, an adoption drive, and a bottle drive, among other things. When the shelter presented to the Town on Monday night, it was noted that while they had no dogs in their care due to recent adoptions, there were a number of cats up for adoption. Leskiw said she anticipates when spring arrives, the shelter could see an even bigger increase in cats coming into care. Annual funding from the Town could help the shelter cover things such as increased utility bills and staff wages. During the delegation, Leskiw and Mailloux explained that the shelter never fully recovers the costs it put into animals in the form of spaying and neutering and ensuring animals are vaccinated before they are adopted. Having the additional annual funds will also help the shelter continue to improve the work it does, said Mailloux. "So we can do more. Do better." Leskiw noted that the shelter's financial situation isn't due to a lack of trying to raise funds. The organization relies on volunteers working Bingos, and the pandemic has drastically reduced the income that is received from those Bingos. Now that Bingos have resumed at the local hall, volunteers are working as many as they can. When asked what their specific funding request was, Mailloux said at minimum, the shelter would like to see an annual contribution of $20,000. She added that the increased funding could also result in the reduction surrender fees that are charged to people who must bring animals to the shelter. Mailloux also explained that keeping staff long-term at the shelter can be a challenge due to the amount of work that is required for the amount of pay the non-profit is able to offer. Ideally, along with a full-time manager and part-time staff member, adding one more part-time position would allow for better coverage. It was also noted that the shelter did welcome a specialist for a visit at the shelter to ensure the organization was running up to standards. Council did not put forward a motion following the delegation, but referred the request to administration in consideration of the 2022 budget. Mayor Maureen Miller told Leskiw and Mailloux that the work being done at the animal shelter does not go unnoticed. https://www.lakelandtoday.ca/local-news/animal-shelter-hoping-to-secure-annual-funding-from-town-of-st-paul-5077729

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's military said on Monday that troops and border guards had prevented a "diversionary reconnaissance" group from breaching Russia's border from Ukrainian territory and that five people had been killed, Russian news agencies reported. Ukraine rejected the report, calling it fake news, and said no Ukrainian forces were present in the Rostov region where the incident was alleged to have taken place. Interfax cited the Russian military as saying that Ukrainian armed vehicles had been destroyed The reported incident took place at a moment of extreme tension between the two countries as Russia continues to deny statements from the United States and its allies that it could invade Ukraine at any time. Only half of the people newly diagnosed with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obesity in England receive lifestyle support from their general physicians, shows a new 10-year analysis study. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity are risk factors for heart disease, which in England causes 150,000, or 30%, of all deaths annually. General physicians can play a particularly important role in recommending and monitoring lifestyle-related changes for the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk. Advertisement ‘New analysis shows that poor recording in electronic health records may miss lifestyle interventions for people at heart disease risk.’ There is strong evidence showing that lifestyle-related interventions, such as support with stopping smoking, exercising, and losing weight, can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. A team of researchers carried out the analysis of 770,000 patients between 2010 and 2019 showed that lifestyle interventions were recorded for 55.6% of people newly diagnosed with high blood pressure, 52.6% of people newly diagnosed with obesity, and 45.2% of people newly diagnosed with high cholesterol. Advertisement The analysis also showed a substantial proportion of individuals not having any recorded lifestyle support or medication within 12 months of diagnosis, ranging from 12% of people with an initial diagnosis of high blood pressure to 44% of people with an initial diagnosis of obesity. The analysis was published by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. These results have important implications for policy and practice to ensure that individuals with modifiable risk factors linked to heart disease can benefit from interventions that can help to improve their health, prevent disease and, most importantly, put their health back in their hands. Given the large burden of cardiovascular disease on primary healthcare services and lack of long-term follow-up on the effectiveness and equity of access to lifestyle interventions for conditions, predisposing patients to cardiovascular disease, the use of electronic health records will be indispensable to better understand their use and impact. https://www.medindia.net/news/are-lifestyle-changes-effective-for-people-at-heart-disease-risk-205749-1.htm

If the quality of Supermassive Games productions can be discussed, the quantity is there. As a proof, in addition to this discovery, the studio still has to deliver five more episodes of The Dark Pictures Anthology. A sixth project for Supermassive Games As is often the case, the registration of trademarks allows for the discovery of unannounced games, and Supermassive Games is once again paying for it. Indeed, while Bandai Namco has not confirmed anything, the names of the next The Dark Pictures are already known. As a reminder, this anthology systematically proposes different plots and ambiences. We followed young people on a haunted boat in Man of Medan, in a town "à la Silent Hill" in Little Hope and soldiers through House of Ashes. As for the upcoming The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me, it focuses on a serial killer: A team of documentary filmmakers receives a mysterious invitation to visit a replica of H. H. Holmes' "Murder Castle," the first American serial killer. They soon discover that they are being watched, and that there is more at stake than their ratings... Added to this is a sixth project called The Quarry, a piece of information first spotted on Twitter and then corroborated by our colleagues at VGC: A mysterious game edited by 2K Games? Unfortunately, there is no clue as to the nature of the title, which could however continue in the horror genre. After all, the studio is used to the genre. On the other hand, we probably know the publisher of this secret software which would not be Bandai Namco. According to VGC's Andy Robinson, The Quarry will be published by 2K Games... in 2022: If true, Supermassive Games would follow up a year after releasing The Dark Anthology: House of Ashes on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC. Since 2021, the developers also count on the support of Nordisk Games, which has taken a 30.7% stake in the studio. An alliance that is not intended to betray the team's DNA, namely narrative games. https://www.msn.com/fr-fr/divertissement/cinema/supermassive-games-the-dark-pictures-d-c3-a9pose-the-quarry/ar-AAU7XDp?ocid=BingNewsSearch

Smart clocks are ideal devices for the bedroom, as they give key information like the time and temperature but often have no intrusive cameras. If you're looking for a deal on a good one, Lenovo's Smart Clock Essential with Alexa is on sale right now at Amazon for $50, or $20 (29 percent) off the regular $70 price. Buy Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Alexa - $50 The Smart Clock Essential with Alexa came out early this year to replace the previous model, with the main additions being a new pogo docking pin on the bottom and, well, support for Alexa instead of Google Assistant. It features an attractive, fabric-covered design in colors "Mistry Blue" and "Clay Red," both of which are on sale. On the top edge there are four buttons: volume buttons, a button for activating the assistant, and another for setting an alarm. There's also a USB port for charging. It neither streams video nor has a camera, though it of course has a mic and speakers so that you can listen to music/podcasts or make voice calls. The entire front face is a dedicated 4-inch LED display, displaying the time, weather, real-time decibel levels and more in white text on a deep black background. The docking accessories still aren't available, but once they arrive, you'll have two options. One is a basic pad with room for both the clock and another wireless-charging like a phone, while the other is what Lenovo calls the Ambient Light Dock, which doubles as a nightlight. It'll be available for $30 in two whimsical designs with either a sea lion and a squid, along with eight different lighting modes and a rainbow of colors — so it could work great in a kid's room. As an independently owned hardware store in Ann Arbor for nearly 60 years, Stadium Hardware has built a foundation of trust in the community. The store opened in 1963 at 2177 W. Stadium Blvd., and has expanded over the years into neighboring storefronts for Michigan Chandelier and Campus T.V. Nearly six decades later, the store continues to serve the Ann Arbor community, providing a service and selection not equaled by its big-box competitors, its owners said. Skip Hackbarth, one of the three current co-owners of the store, said Stadium Hardware deals in customer service and stocks hard-to-find parts. “There’s a lot of times where we’ll, if we can, drill something out, we’ll clean something up to make it function instead of selling another part,” Hackbarth said. “Some of the little parts and pieces - the bits and bobs - that big stores aren’t moving enough of, they might not want to carry them in stock... For us, because we’re the only place in town that carries it, we sell quite a bit.” The other two owners, Brian Bennink and James Brustad, bought shares from Mike Kruzel and Mark Mayne when the pair retired at the end of 2015. All three are lifetime residents of the area and graduates of Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. “This aisle alone puts us on the map,” Bennink said, gesturing to a wall of odd-sized plumbing fittings and replacement parts for kitchen and bathroom appliances. Stadium Hardware draws much of its business from contractors, property managers and handymen who keep Ann Arbor’s residences in good repair. As local plumber Mark Ayers browses nearby, he chimes in: “If you need something, it’s here.” The other main attraction at Stadium Hardware is Room 2, which hosts wall-to-wall shelves of all manner of nuts, bolts, studs and specialty fasteners that customers would be hard-pressed to find in stock elsewhere. “We tell the Hillman rep, if you can fit it in here, we want it.” Bennink said. “If we could put stuff on the ceiling, we probably would.” The store co-ops with True Value and Do It Best, but as an independent shop, can also source stock from other suppliers. Hackbarth said a recent inventory revealed the store stocks about 32,000 different products. For many of Stadium Hardware’s loyal customers, who Hackbarth estimates flow through at an average of about 50 an hour, the store’s appeal runs even deeper than the stock on shelves. Dan Weisman said he grew up visiting the hardware store with his grandfather, and he’s gone out of his way to keep patronizing Stadium Hardware. “I’ll drive here from Pinckney just to come here - I work in the area, but I’ll come here on the weekend as well,” he said. “Practically everyone in here knows my name.” Fran Hall recently came in to pick up some DIY supplies for refinishing furniture. She said in the three years she’s lived in the area, Stadium Hardware has become her go-to hardware store. “It’s closer than Home Depot or Lowe’s and I also like the service that I get here. when I walk into a big box store like that I feel a little overwhelmed,” she said. “Everybody who works here is super great, super helpful... I love coming here and I’ll continue coming here over another store.” “It’s really neat to watch, those relationships of people who’ve been coming in and out of here for 30 years or more,” Hackbarth said. “And they walk in and they see somebody that they’ve talked to and they trust and they know.” The treatment extended to customers stems from the way the store values its employees. “The crew, they’re the heart of this place,” Hackbarth said. Employee Patricia Miller, who joined the store in 2011, said that during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the store was closed to the public, the owners not only kept employees on but provided meals during their shifts. “It was about four months that we did everything curbside, and they fed us every day - we got breakfast and lunch every day,” Miller said. The store has changed hands a few times in its six decades, with each generation of owners bought out by trusted employees. Some things don’t need to change, and the mission remains the same, Hackbarth said. “Create an environment that people want to come to - that’s all it really comes down to,” Hackbarth said. Hackbarth and Bennink smile and give the same answer when talking bout the store’s future. “Let’s do 60 more.” Stadium Hardware, 2177 W. Stadium Blvd., is currently open for winter hours from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Customers can call 734-663-8704 or visit stadiumhardware.net to browse the store’s online catalog. https://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/2022/02/independently-owned-hardware-store-going-strong-for-nearly-60-years-in-ann-arbor.html

This indicates that the company could be more focused on returning cash to shareholders than reinvesting to grow the business. EPS is set to fall by 17.1% over the next 12 months. If the dividend continues along the path it has been on recently, the payout ratio in 12 months could be 155%, which is definitely a bit high to be sustainable going forward. American Software Has A Solid Track Record The company has a sustained record of paying dividends with very little fluctuation. The first annual payment during the last 10 years was US$0.36 in 2012, and the most recent fiscal year payment was US$0.44. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 2.0% per annum over that time. Although we can't deny that the dividend has been remarkably stable in the past, the growth has been pretty muted. American Software May Have Challenges Growing The Dividend Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. American Software has seen EPS rising for the last five years, at 5.7% per annum. However, the payout ratio is very high, not leaving much room for growth of the dividend in the future. The Dividend Could Prove To Be Unreliable Overall, we don't think this company makes a great dividend stock, even though the dividend wasn't cut this year. We can't deny that the payments have been very stable, but we are a little bit worried about the very high payout ratio. We would be a touch cautious of relying on this stock primarily for the dividend income. Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. For instance, we've picked out 4 warning signs for American Software that investors should take into consideration. Protesters wave signs outside City Hall on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, before a Blueprint 2020 vote on whether to spend nearly $26.5 million dollars in sales-tax funds for repairs at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency meets again on February 24th and clearly the key item on the table will be further policy discussion of the $20 million vote for improvements to Doak Campbell Stadium taken in December 2021. There has been considerable news coverage of the controversial December vote, as well as other public discussions on this issue going back to May 2021. My goal is not rehash what has been already been widely covered. My goal is to encourage reasonable people to take a deep breath and consider the long term positive impact of the requested funding. The importance of ensuring $20 million in bonding to make structural improvements to Doak Campbell Stadium is about facilitating a major project with one of our largest and most collaborative local economic drivers, which happens to be Florida State University. Florida State University brings in nearly a billion dollars a year in impact to the local community annually, only a portion of that is related to athletics. The requested funds have a specific focus to address structural capital improvements. It’s easy for some of the opponents of the funding to throw out red meat sound bites during an election year, such as “why are we using taxpayer dollars to benefit FSU boosters?”, “FSU does not need the money, look at their endowment!”, “FSU football is a losing team, so why should we bail them out?”. For such a highly educated local po[CENSORED]tion, you would think the opponents could come up with better and cogent arguments. The narrative that continues to get lost in the shuffle on this funding request is that in many respects this vote is not about football, it’s about politics During what is sure to be a highly contested and politicized local election cycle, politicians have a choice, do they make policy decisions on what they believe to be politically expedient (things that generate a high amount of press coverage)? , or do they make decisions guided by facts that indicate a vote of support for the funding which serves as a positive economic impact that will benefit the citizens that elected them. February 24th’s Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency meeting will certainly be one to watch for political theater, I just hope it has a good ending. Afederal judge announced big news last week: Gray wolves will regain protection in the United States. Only in certain parts of the country, however. On Feb. 10, Senior District Judge Jeffrey S. White of the District Court for the Northern District of California found that when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removed gray wolves from Endangered Species Act protection in 2020, the agency failed to adequately consider threats to wolf po[CENSORED]tions that had not rebounded as strongly as others. The ruling overturns the Trump administration’s decision to remove the animals from the endangered species list. And while some conservationists are cheering this as a win, protections remain incomplete in the West. That’s because high-profile wolf po[CENSORED]tions aren’t affected by the ruling. Some of the West’s most notable packs — those mired in controversy near Yellowstone National Park in Montana and Wyoming, as well as wolves in Idaho — are still legal to hunt. The shifting status of wolves is set against a backdrop of wildly varying attitudes toward apex predators. Many hunters and ranchers believe protections are not only no longer warranted, they also contribute to wolf attacks on livestock and big game, while conservationists note that wolves still don’t occupy anywhere close to their historical range. A 2020 ballot initiative to reintroduce the species in Colorado split down geographic lines on a slim margin, with urban voters mostly in favor and rural voters opposed. 1. Rocky Mountain wolves aren’t included Last week’s decision affects 44 states in the Lower 48. Wolves in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming lost federal protections before wolves elsewhere in the country. They aren’t included in this reinstatement of protections because they were outside the scope of the case, which challenged the Trump administration’s delisting. The Fish and Wildlife Service delisted wolves in Wyoming in 2017, while Congress delisted wolves in Montana and Idaho in 2011. Mexican wolves — the rarest subspecies of gray wolves, found in Arizona and New Mexico — have retained protection as a separate po[CENSORED]tion. 2. In fact … aerial hunting of wolves is legal in Montana (but contested) Two wildlife advocacy groups are suing Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission over what they say are discrepancies in wolf-hunting regulations. Last week, the groups asked the Lewis and Clark County District Court judge to temporarily halt the hunting of wolves with aircraft, along with hunting while using night vision goggles, infrared and thermal technologies. But hunting wolves from a plane is legal under state law, wildlife officials said in court, noting that the previous prohibition in old hunting regulations was an error. The lawsuit remains ongoing. 3. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland is concerned In a Feb. 7 USA Today op-ed, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland expressed dismay at the recent killing of 20 wolves that roamed outside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park, where they are protected. Haaland wrote that she was “alarmed” by recent reports from Montana, where 15 of the 20 died. The hunting and trapping season in Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 3, which hugs Yellowstone to the north, will be closed once 82 wolves have been killed. On Friday, 80 had been killed according to the agency’s wolf harvest dashboard. “We have communicated to state officials that these kinds of actions jeopardize the decades of federal and state partnerships that successfully recovered gray wolves in the northern Rockies,” she wrote. Haaland also said the Fish and Wildlife Service will “reinstate federal protections under the ESA for the northern Rocky Mountains’ gray wolf, if necessary.” Haaland’s comments are important because the delisting decision, which came during the Trump administration, was defended by the Biden administration in court. 4. Isolated wolf po[CENSORED]tions tipped the scales White’s decision leaned heavily on the status of smaller wolf po[CENSORED]tions. Fears that those wolves hadn’t recovered to the same extent as those in the Rockies and Midwest and therefore weren’t ready to be returned to state management were also expressed by scientists preparing a delisting review for the Trump administration. White’s ruling calls out the Fish and Wildlife Service for concluding, “with little explanation or analysis, that wolves outside of the core po[CENSORED]tions are not necessary to the recovery of the species.” 5. Hunting is off the table in the Great Lakes region The most obvious impact of the ruling is in the Midwest, where wolf hunting boomed after the canines lost federal protections. In the spring of 2021, wolf hunting in Wisconsin drew attention after the state had to end the season early. More than 200 wolves were killed in less than 60 hours, blowing past the quota of 119 animals and prompting outrage and lawsuits. Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin — Great Lakes states with established po[CENSORED]tions — hadn’t scheduled any additional wolf hunts since last year and were already in the process of updating their management plans. And a bonus. 6. Historically, removing protections is actually bipartisan Beginning with President George W. Bush, both Democratic and Republican administrations have tried to eliminate or tamp down the federal wolf protections first granted under the Endangered Species Act in 1974. Wolves are likely to remain a political football in the larger predator political arena for quite some time to come. Kylie Mohr is an editorial intern for High Country News writing from Montana. Mate Rimac discusses the Nevera delay, scarce chips and and why Bugatti no longer fit with VW Group. "The easiest thing for us would be to take the Nevera [shown] and slam a Bugatti logo on it and call it a day. But I was against it," Rimac Group CEO Mate Rimac said. Mate Rimac likes to say that Volkswagen, Porsche and Hyundai have invested hundreds of millions of euros in his education. He plans to use that to create new-generation Bugatti hypercars without spending billions as well as electric powertrains and battery systems that can be sold at high volumes. Rimac, who turned 34 this month, explained why Bugatti, despite being profitable, no longer was the right fit within the VW Group. He also shared the reason for the Rimac Nevara supercar's delay, outlined the high cost of the chip crunch and revealed why his new R&D center near Zagreb, Croatia, won't have fences in an interview with Automotive News Europe Managing Editor Douglas A. Bolduc. What is the status of your next supercar, the Rimac Nevera? Production was delayed because it's a super complex project, but the car is in production. The first customer cars are on the line. We will deliver the cars in the next two months. What caused the delay? It's mostly the availability of parts. People might ask why there is a problem with a car with such a low volume. The issues is that we are very vertically integrated. We make a lot of the parts ourselves, including all the electronics in the car. It's our own hardware and software. We have to procure thousands and thousands of electronic components for each car. And that's proving to be a challenge because of the chip shortage. What has been the financial toll of the chip crisis? For a component that's maybe worth $1, we would pay maybe $10 or $20 or $50 -- and in some cases even $100 -- for a chip just to avoid stopping the production. It has been a huge challenge. We have had to change a few designs and change some components on the cars just because we couldn't get the chips and processors. https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/rimac-explains-why-bugatti-no-longer-fit-within-vw-group

Black Americans continue to be among President Biden's strongest supporters, with two-thirds approving of his job performance. But as with the public overall, the president's approval ratings among Black Americans fell over the course of 2021 and have not returned to the heights seen at the start of his term. It's inflation weighing on his ratings now: most Black Americans disapprove of Mr. Biden's handling of inflation, specifically — as do Americans overall. Nor do most think he's focused enough on inflation. This is even as they give him net positive marks for other issues, for handling the pandemic, and for the economy more generally. Black Americans who disapprove of his overall job performance overall also disapprove of his handling of inflation, in particular, among other issues. Black Americans still give Mr. Biden very positive marks for handling coronavirus, even though that measure dipped over the last year too. And it's an important measure because they feel Black communities have been hard-hit by the virus, citing "a lot" of impact. For context: compared to other recent Democratic presidents one year into their terms, Mr. Biden's approval rating from Black Americans today is a little lower than it was for Bill Clinton in 1994 (72%) and quite a bit lower than for Barack Obama in 2010 (87%.)
