  1. I've written frequently about how the next wave of developer-focused software companies will fuel a $1 trillion enterprise software market, driven by trends such as free open source platforms and flexible API building blocks. The market fundamentals that underpin this trillion-dollar software sector are clear: as every company transforms into a software company—a transformation only accelerated by the pandemic—developers are in the driver's seat. They want to choose their own tools, technologies and platforms, not products foisted on them by their employers. Thus, enterprise software companies that understand and cater to developer needs stand to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue in the years to come. But what sets this next trillion-dollar enterprise software wave apart, distinct from the earlier waves of SaaS software and public cloud, is that the next billion-dollar enterprise companies could be born in any country. Most large software companies today are headquartered in the US, but in the next few years, we will see several billion-dollar enterprise leaders emerging in Europe, Asia, Israel, and Latin America. That's because the very nature of developer-driven software—global, distributed, bottoms-up, collaborative—provides a fertile ground for developer-focused entrepreneurs to build their companies anywhere. Developers don't care if great open source code or APIs got their start in Boston, Bangalore or Buenos Aires, they just want to use the best platforms available. And they're acccustomed to collaborating with developers all over the world, sharing ideas on forums, writing code for global open source projects, and reading articles written by their peers working on similar projects. Already, we're seeing developer-focused software companies spring up around the world that have attained, or are set to attain, multi-billion-dollar valuations. For example, JFrog, an Israel-born software company that went public in September 2020 is now worth more than $4 billion. Postman, a US/Bangalore company building a collaboration platform for API development announced a $150 million Series C round at a $2 billion valuation in the middle of the pandemic and BrowserStack, an Indian cloud web and mobile testing platform completed a $200 million round at a $4 billion value in June of this year. PROMOTED A wide range of earlier-stage developer-driven software companies born outside the US that are also on track to be billion-dollar businesses include Stream, a leader in API-driven chat messaging and activity feed solutions founded in Amsterdam; Rasa, developers of open source conversational AI tools founded in Berlin; Evervault, a provider of encryption tools for developers based in Dublin; Nozomi Networks, an IoT security leader founded in Switzerland; Supabase, an early-stage open source database company based in Singapore; and Jina, an open source AI company based in Berlin with development teams in China. All of these companies have developers using their products all over the globe, and they sell to enterprise customers worldwide. Venture capital investors have traditionally focused on funding US-based enterprise software firms, but now that the focus has shifted to developer-driven software, opportunity is everywhere. Investment trends show a shift toward global investment in enterprise software companies. Analyzing Pitchbook data showing the total venture capital invested in enterprise software companies globally between 2017 and 2021 (with numbers projected through the end of the year), we found that investors are clearly backing companies outside the US, albeit at a stop-and- go pace of change. In 2017, the US captured 69% of total venture dollars invested in enterprise software companies, falling to 49% in 2018 when deals in China and Singapore surged, then climbing back to 61% by 2020. For 2021, it's projected that the US will account for 59% of the total venture investment in enterprise companies. During the last five years, companies that continued to gain investment dollars include Germany, the UK, and Spain, while Israel, France, and Brazil largely held steady. If the pandemic has proven anything, it's that countries around the world are deeply connected, but software developers have known that for years already. Whether a developer lives in Bangalore or Budapest, they want the best tools for the job, no matter where they were first created. And they collaborate with one another through forums, Github, shared projects, and open source communities. Enterprise software companies that build tools and platforms for the global developer community, and truly understand the needs and mindset of this diverse group, are well positioned to become billion-dollar brands, no matter where they get started. My firm, GGV Capital, is an investor in Nozomi Networks, Stream, and Jina, all mentioned in this article. Follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn. Check out my website or some of my other work here.
  2. Hardware wallets like Trezor and Ledger have become a po[CENSORED]r option for crypto asset owners owing to its security and convenience. Last week, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced his payments firm Square would soon build a hardware wallet to store bitcoin. The wallet will be a type of plug-in device, much like a USB pendrive that stores, manages and secures a user’s crypto assets. (Subscribe to our Today's Cache newsletter for a quick snapshot of top 5 tech stories. Click here to subscribe for free.) Each digital asset is linked to a cryptographic password called a ‘private key’ to allow users to access it. This key safeguards cryptocurrencies from theft and unauthorized access. The asset owner, with the help of a secure hardware wallet, can access the private key to buy and sell crypto assets from anywhere. Most hardware wallets allows users to manage multiple accounts; some even allow users to connect to their Google or Facebook accounts. Po[CENSORED]r hardware wallets include Trezor, Ledger, KeepKey and Prokey. How is it different from a software wallet? Cryptocurrency keys can be stored in two kinds of wallets - software and hardware. Most software wallets don't charge users to store private keys, but may collect commission for trading via the app. These wallets can be vulnerable to malware. Hardware wallets and physical devices act like cold storage for confidential keys. The passwords are protected by a PIN, making it difficult for hackers to extract private keys as the information is not exposed to the Internet. The upsides of a hardware wallet Hardware wallets are said to be convenient as they can be connected to trading exchanges to complete transactions. Also Read | In a world first, El Salvador makes bitcoin legal tender Hardware wallets are often stored in a protected microcontroller and cannot be transferred out of the device, making them secure. Their isolation from the Internet also mitigates the risk of the assets being compromised. Moreover, it does not rely on any third-party app. The downsides Since the wallet is in physical form, the device could be stolen or destroyed. A 2016 study by the University of Michigan also noted prominent hardware backdoors that could be used by malicious actors to steal confidential data. The device can also be expensive as compared to software wallets. Some hardware wallets can also have complex features, making it difficult for first-timers to understand.
  3. China’s V-shaped economic rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic is slowing, sending a warning to the rest of world about how durable their own recoveries will prove to be. The changing outlook was underscored Friday when the People’s Bank of China cut the amount of cash most banks must hold in reserve in order to boost lending. While the PBOC said the move isn’t a renewed stimulus push, the breadth of the 50 basis-point cut to most banks reserve ratio requirement came as a surprise. Data on Thursday is expected to show growth eased in the second quarter to 8% from the record gain of 18.3% in the first quarter, according to a Bloomberg poll of economists. Key readings of retail sales, industrial production and fixed asset investment are all set to moderate too. The PBOC’s swift move to lower banks’ RRR is one way of making sure the recovery plateaus from here, rather then stumbles. The economy was always expected to descend from the heights hit during its initial rebound and as last year’s low base effect washes out. But economists say the softening has come sooner than expected, and could now ripple across the world. “There is no doubt that the impact of a slowing China on the global economy will be bigger than it was five years ago,” said Rob Subbaraman, head of global markets research at Nomura Holdings Inc. “China’s ‘first-in, first-out’ status from Covid-19 could also influence market expectations that if China’s economy is cooling now, others will soon follow.” Group of 20 finance ministers meeting in Venice on Saturday signaled alarm over threats that could derail a fragile global recovery, saying new variants of the coronavirus and an uneven pace of vaccination could undermine a brightening outlook for the world economy. China’s state media also cited several analysts Monday saying domestic growth will slow in the second half because of an uncertain global recovery. China’s slowing recovery also reinforces the view that factory inflation has likely peaked and commodity prices could moderate further. “China’s growth slowdown should mean near-term disinflation pressures globally, particularly on demand for industrial metals and capital goods,” said Wei Yao, chief economist for the Asia Pacific at Societe Generale SA. The changing outlook reflects the advanced stage of China’s recovery as growth stabilizes, according to Bloomberg Economics. Domestically, the big puzzle continues to be why retail sales are still soft given the virus remains under control. It’s likely that sales slowed again in June, according to Bloomberg Economics, as sentiment was weighed by controls to contain sporadic outbreaks of the virus. Even with the PBOC’s support for small and mid-sized businesses, there’s no sign of a broad reversal in the disciplined stimulus approach authorities have taken since the crisis began. The RRR cut was partially to “manage expectations” ahead of the second-quarter economic data this week, said Bruce Pang, head of macro and strategy research at China Renaissance Securities Hong Kong. “It also provides more policy room going forward, as the momentum of the economic recovery has surely slowed.”
  4. There’s evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can cross from humans into other animals. The virus is capable of infecting a range of species, from hamsters to gorillas. A new concern is whether SARS-CoV-2 could be replicating unnoticed in animals and mutating into a more harmful and contagious strain. Sarah L Caddy, a researcher from the University of Cambridge explains the likelihood of this happening. People have been panicking about COVID-19 in animals since the very start of the pandemic. There's now plenty of evidence that SARS-CoV-2 - the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 - can cross from humans into other animals. This is known as spillback. The virus is capable of infecting a range of species, from hamsters to gorillas. Reassuringly, the vast majority of animals do not get as seriously sick from an infection as humans do. Also, at present there are very few documented cases of animals then transmitting infection back to humans. But a new concern is now being discussed: what if SARS-CoV-2 could be replicating unnoticed in animals and mutating? Could new variants emerge that can reinfect humans and create more havoc? SARS-CoV-2 has been evolving in humans throughout the pandemic, resulting in many new variants arising, and there are two factors that appear to have helped variants emerge. First is the vast number of infections in people worldwide, as the virus has the chance to mutate every time it reproduces. The second is the much smaller number of chronic infections that happen in people whose immune systems aren't fully functioning. When facing a weak immune system, the virus isn't quickly wiped out, and so has the time to evolve ways of evading immunity. Is it possible that these evolution scenarios are also going on in animals, but that we're unaware of them happening? To get a sense of whether this is a risk, we first need to know how many infections are occurring in animals. This will help identify any possible hidden reservoir of the virus. To this end, SARS-CoV-2 infections in animals are being studied extensively in many places across the world. Scientists are investigating exactly which species are susceptible to infection, as well as how common the virus is in different animal po[CENSORED]tions. To find out which species are susceptible, many different animals – both domesticated and wildlife species – have now been exposed to the virus in experimental settings. This has provided a comprehensive understanding of exactly which animals can be infected – they include cats, ferrets, deer mice and white-tailed deer. And to find out how common animal infections are, screening for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is also being used to uncover animals that have previously been naturally exposed to the virus. Most studies of natural infections in animals have focused on cats and dogs, as these are the species that live most closely with humans. A recent UK preprint (a piece of research yet to be reviewed by other scientists) found that only six out of 377 pet dogs and cats tested between November 2020 and February 2021 had antibodies specific for SARS-CoV-2. This shows that infection isn't rife and going unnoticed among most of our pets. Early results from another study in the Netherlands (which is also still awaiting review) found higher rates of antibodies in the animals it tested (54 out of 308 dogs and cats were positive), but probably due to different sampling strategies. The UK research studied blood samples from a random set of animals, whereas the Dutch study specifically sampled pets in the homes of people known to be infected with COVID-19. So it’s reasonably safe to say that our household pets are unlikely to be acting as a significant reservoir of ongoing infections that could allow new variants to. But what about other species? The animal that has raised most concern is mink. The only documented cases of animals spreading SARS-CoV-2 back to people involve these animals. These were first identified in the Netherlands in May 2020 and mink-related variants were identified in Denmark in November 2020. Thankfully, highly effective containment measures have rapidly brought mink infections under control in these areas – but these animals will need to continue to be monitored closely. Can animals be immunosuppressed? What about the other source of virus variants: chronic cases of COVID-19? Could these occur in animals, enabling more virus evolution within a single host? Typically, chronic SARS-CoV-2 infections occur in people whose immune systems aren't fully functioning – often because of other medical conditions they have or treatments they are receiving. These immunosuppressed patients therefore receive extensive medical care throughout their infection. Animals can also be immunosuppressed for a whole range of reasons, but even the most beloved pets rarely undergo the kind of extensive hospitalisation that could allow for viral evolution. As for immunosuppression in other animals, such as wildlife, this would be a significant survival disadvantage. It's unlikely that animals with compromised immune systems would survive long enough for much evolution of an acute virus like SARS-CoV-2 to happen. However, minor mutations have been reported in experimental infections (again in early research awaiting review), suggesting that some evolution is theoretically possible even over a short timeframe. COVID-19 How is the World Economic Forum helping to identify new technologies to fight COVID-19? Show Moving forwards, it's essential that we continue surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 in all manner of animal po[CENSORED]tions. Particular focus should be on animals that live more closely with people – it is pets and farmed animals that are more likely to be exposed to high doses of accident virus from an infected person. Careful attention must also be paid to wildlife known to be susceptible to infection. If evidence of natural animal-animal spread or chronic infections in animals arises, then strict control measures must be introduced quickly. At present, there is no need to consider similar blanket control strategies for animals like those used in humans, but we should keep an open mind for the future. Share
  5. General Motors has decided to urgently recall more than 410,000 pickups in the United States due to a serious defect. General Motors' recall of pickup models came at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in America, and that recall includes Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 models, and the recall focused on the mentioned models that were produced in 2015 and 2016. The reason for the urgent recall is due to the danger of separating the airbags installed on the ceiling, which exposes the side wall to exploding, which means that the airbags may open without any necessity and without warning. What increased the need for the summons was the occurrence of 3 accidents during the month of June that saw the side wall of cars explode with the airbag opening. Fortunately for General Motors, the three accidents did not result in any injuries due to the lack of passengers. GM is working to fix this critical malfunction as quickly as possible, with recalls made less than two weeks after the first accident. General Motors decided to replace the open airbags with new ones without any cost to car owners. General Motors is ditching the CD players in its new cars The American General Motors group decided to abandon the CD player in its cars as a development step for its cars. The General Motors group revealed that it decided to abandon the CD player in all passenger cars, while the CD player continued to be available in some models such as the Chevrolet Silverado. General Motors' decision came due to the majority's preference to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications to listen to songs instead of a DVD player. General Motors also wanted to offer a more modern front cabin, which made it consider removing the CD player, especially since the CD player gives a classic look. General Motors increases spending on electric cars for the third time General Motors, the US auto giant, is preparing to increase its investment in electric and self-driving cars by 30%. According to Reuters news agency reports, General Motors wants to spend 35 billion dollars, equivalent to 131.3 billion Saudi riyals, in developing electric and self-driving cars. General Motors had announced at the beginning of 2020, before the outbreak of the Corona virus in the United States of America, an investment of $ 20 billion in the development of electric and self-driving cars, and then raised the total amount to $ 27 billion during the month of November. General Motors has increased its investments in this field after the American company Ford announced that it intends to invest another $30 billion in electric cars by 2030. General Motors is working during the coming period to establish two new battery factories in the United States, but without announcing their location so far. In the event of the establishment of two new factories, the General Motors Group will become the owner of four factories to create batteries for electric cars, since it currently owns two factories in partnership with LG. The General Motors group wants to provide 30 electric models to the global market by 2025, which makes it an urgent need to own a large number of electric car batteries. General Motors aims to have sales of electric cars in China and the United States reach about one million vehicles by the end of 2025. General Motors begins production of these models despite the lack of chips The prestigious American automaker General Motors announced the models it will produce in the pickup truck category despite the semiconductor shortage crisis, known as the microchip crisis. With the beginning of the decline in the crisis of relatively small semiconductor chips, which are used with great reliability in the auto industry, the auto giant General Motors had announced to raise production rates for various models in the coming period to compensate for the huge losses during the last period. List of cars that General will produce despite the crisis The American group, General Motors, announced the names of some of the models that it will produce during the coming period, despite the semiconductor crisis, as follows: 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. 2021 GMC Yukon. Yukon XL model. Cadillac Escalade luxury model. Luxury Escalade ESV. New Chevrolet Silverado Edition. GMC Sierra. These models will not come with a new version of the keyless start technology, as General Motors will abandon this technology in exchange for production cars as normal. The leading group in the automotive industry, General Motors, confirmed that it will raise the production rate of pickup trucks, for which it is famous, during the coming period to about 1,000 new pickup trucks per month. He confirmed that this increase will officially start at the General Motors plant in the US state of Michigan next July, despite the continuing crisis of semiconductor chips. Hyundai and General Motors touch the future with flying cars Hyundai Motors and General Motors, the two giants of the auto industry in the world, announced that they are moving forward with their latest developments in the world of vehicles, with research aimed at producing flying cars. If we are witnessing the fulfillment of many of the predictions of science fiction films and novels in the current era, the prophecy of the flying car may be one of them, and it will be operational sooner than we imagined. South Korea's Hyundai Motors has expressed optimism to have a "flying taxi" service in operation possibly by 2025. "It may take up to 2030 for flying taxi services to overcome technical and regulatory hurdles and reach commercial operation," a General Motors executive said.
  6. page index Benefits of sports for children Sports for beginners Exercise of all kinds is beneficial for children, as it contributes to maintaining physical health and increasing body fitness. In this article, we will learn about the benefits of sports for children, and offer you sports for children at home through a variety of exercises. Benefits of sports for children Exercising in children has a wide range of health benefits, including: [1] [2] Reducing the risk of obesity: the rate of obesity decreases significantly among children who continue to exercise on a daily basis. Promote cardiovascular health: Exercise contributes to regulating the work of the heart and blood vessels and prevents many diseases. Healthy growth of bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons. Improve coordination and balance. Promotes physical relaxation in the child: It also avoids the complications of chronic muscle tension such as headaches or back pain. Improved sleep: Children who exercise have significantly fewer sleep problems than children who do not play sports. Promote mental health: where the child is more self-confident, and sports contribute to improving his cognitive, social and personal skills, including cooperation and leadership. Increasing the child's energy level: thus reducing lethargy and lack of activity. A better outlook on life: Experts say that exercise allows children to have a better outlook on life by building confidence, managing anxiety, reducing depression, and increasing self-esteem. Reducing the risk of chronic diseases: Exercise improves mood and behavior in children and reduces the risk of chronic diseases. See also: the benefits of lamb meat for children, men and pregnant women Sports for beginners You can start with your child to practice exercises for beginners, and it includes 8 main exercises, and it is also considered the best sport for children to lose weight, which are: [3] 1. Running Considered the best sport for young children, running improves the health of the heart, lungs and blood vessels, and enhances cognitive performance and mental health in children. How to perform the running exercise: Try to include in the sport of running any kind of encouragement and entertainment, such as children chasing each other, or try for you and your child to play this game. You can also challenge your child to race a certain distance and then return to the starting point. 2. Jump Jumping helps increase movement of the calves, glutes, and hamstrings, as well as develops balance and coordination. How to perform the jumping exercise: Try to imitate the bunny or frog jump with your child, this will encourage him to do it. Jump with specific music of your choice, and try to get your child involved in it. Bag jumping, where children stand in a thick bag and try to jump to a certain point and then return to the starting point (do not use it for children under five years old). 3. Bear crawling exercise This exercise helps move the entire body, targeting muscles in the upper body, including the shoulders, chest, arms, and lower body muscles such as the quadriceps and hamstrings in the legs. How to perform the bear crawl exercise: Encourage your little ones to do bear crawls by tapping into their imaginations, and having them pretend to be bears, navigating the woods in search of food. Have them put all fours on the floor, arms shoulder width apart and hips in the air, then let them move forward, starting with the right hand and left foot, then the left hand and right foot. 4. Crab gait This exercise also contributes to moving the various muscles of the body, including the triceps, hamstrings, shoulders and abdomen. How to Perform the Crab Pointer Exercise: Let your younger children imagine that they are a crab walking in the sand of the sea, but for the older children, make them a crab-walking race, which will encourage them to do it. Let them sit on the floor, knees bent and feet on the floor. Then let them place their hands flat on the floor and slightly behind their back, with their toes pointing toward their feet. Now get him to lift his hips and buttocks off the ground and start walking backwards. 5. Squatting Squats help improve strength and stability while targeting many lower body muscles such as the glutes, quads, hamstrings, and hip flexors. How to perform the squat exercise: Stand with your feet parallel and at the level of your shoulders, and your arms outstretched to your sides, then start going down with your arms forward at chest level, then stand, making sure that the knees do not go beyond the toes. 6. Skipping rope It is considered one of the most po[CENSORED]r exercises, as it targets the entire muscles of the body, contributes to improving heart health, and losing fat that is concentrated in the abdominal area, and the difficulty of performing this exercise is limited to mastering the mechanism of its implementation only. 7. Yoga Yoga increases strength and flexibility, promotes alertness and deep breathing in a child, which can reduce stress. It also improves focus, memory and self-esteem. How to perform the yoga exercise: If you do not have previous experience with yoga, try to learn it online and follow the steps for you and your child. And if you do yoga, put another mat next to you and let your child imitate you. 8. Superman This exercise contributes to strengthening the abdominal and back muscles. How to perform the Superman exercise: Encourage your child and let him imagine that he is Superman and he is flying in the sky. Let him lie on his stomach face down toward the floor with legs on the floor and arms extended forward over the head. Then tell him to lift his legs and arms off the ground at the same time. The previous exercises can be used in schools, as it is the best sport for kindergarten children, and try not to offer children a sport without music, as this makes them less interactive with you. See also: Turner syndrome Finally, try to offer children sports options with music, as this helps and encourages them to perform and do it on a daily basis.
  7. link:Website High blood pressure is a precursor to serious diseases of the heart and blood vessels, so it is important to reduce it by paying attention to nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. High blood pressure occurs when the force of blood against the walls of the arteries is constantly too high. This can cause your arteries to narrow, which in turn may increase your risk of heart disease. Fortunately, it has been proven that dietary interventions reverse this process, especially when eating some foods, especially chocolate rich in cocoa. It has been shown that plant compounds found in cocoa called "flavanols", reduce high blood pressure. To determine the association between cocoa-rich products and lower blood pressure, a team of British researchers surveyed many electronic databases and relevant international trial records, as well as writing down the stories of patients with low blood pressure after introducing cocoa into their diet. And according to the British newspaper “Express”, the analyzes of the studies, which included at least 856 people, revealed a positive effect of cocoa, even if it was eaten in a period of time ranging from two to 18 weeks. The researchers, from the British Heart Foundation, noted: 'Chocolate and cocoa products rich in flavanols may have a small but statistically significant effect in lowering blood pressure by 2–3 mmHg in the short term.

  10. OpenAI has once again made the headlines, this time with Copilot, an AI-powered programming tool jointly built with GitHub. Built on top of GPT-3, OpenAI's famous language model, Copilot is an autocomplete tool that provides relevant (and sometimes lengthy) suggestions as you write code. Copilot is currently available to select applicants as an extension in Visual Studio Code, the flagship programming tool of Microsoft, GitHub's parent company. While the AI-powered code generator is still a work in progress, it provides some interesting hints about the business of large language models and the future directions of the software industry. Not the intended use for GPT-3 The official website of Copilot describes it as an “AI pair programmer” that suggests “whole lines or entire functions right inside your editor.” Sometimes, just providing a function signature or description is enough to generate an entire block of code. Working behind Copilot is a deep learning model called Codex, which is basically a special version of GPT-3 finetuned for programming tasks. The tool's working is very much like GPT-3: It takes a prompt as input and generates a sequence of bytes as output. Here, the prompt (or context) is the source code file you're working on and the output is the code suggestion you receive. What’s interesting in all of this is the unexpected turns AI product management can take. According to CNBC: “...back when OpenAI was first training [GPT-3], the start-up had no intention of teaching it how to help code, [OpenAI CTO Greg] Brockman said. It was meant more as a general purpose language model [emphasis mine] that could, for instance, generate articles, fix incorrect grammar and translate from one language into another.” General-purpose language applications have proven to be very hard to nail. There are many intricacies involved when applying natural language processing to broad environments. Humans tend to use a lot of abstractions and shortcuts in day-to-day language. The meaning of words, phrases, and sentences can vary based on shared sensory experience, work environment, prior knowledge, etc. These nuances are hard to grasp with deep learning models that have been trained to grasp the statistical regularities of a very large dataset of anything and everything. In contrast, language models perform well when they're provided with the right context and their application is narrowed down to a single or a few related tasks. For example, deep learning–powered chatbots trained or finetuned on a large corpus of customer chats can be a decent complement to customer service agents, taking on the bulk of simple interactions with customers and leaving complicated requests to human operators. There are already plenty of special-purpose deep learning models for different language tasks. Therefore, it's not very surprising that the first applications for GPT-3 have been something other than general-purpose language tasks. Using language models for coding
  11. Square has decided to go ahead with building a bitcoin hardware wallet and service, a month after company CEO Jack Dorsey announced that it's considering the move. Jesse Dorogusker, Square's Hardware Lead, has revealed on Twitter that the company came upon the decision "to make bitcoin custody more mainstream." He didn't exactly have any concrete details or a timeline to share, but he did talk about the company's general plan for the project. He said a lot of questions popped up from Jack's original thread on Twitter and that they'll need to reconcile those questions and other issues to be able to figure out product direction. At this point, the company at least knows that it wants to make the product available globally and to prioritize mobile use. Square will form a team led by Max Guise, Square's Hardware Security Lead, to handle the project and is currently hiring key roles for it. While details are scarce at the moment, Jack said Square will build the product out in the open "from software to hardware design, and in collaboration with the community" when he first talked about the possibility of building a wallet back in June. Based on his tweets back then, we can expect Cash app integration with the product in the future. 12. Link: Website! European Central Bank officials believe that inflation may exceed expectations in the coming years, which confirms the uncertainty about what could face the European economy despite its recovery from the repercussions of the Corona pandemic. The European Central Bank's projections indicate that inflation will reach 1.4% by 2023, the farthest it is currently forecasting. According to the June 9-10 Monetary Policy Meeting Minutes released Friday, "inflation was widely viewed as subject to upward risks". Although that rate is below the new inflation target of 2%, monetary policymakers have taken into account the impact of supply chain shortages and rising individual savings. The possibility of governments having to take measures to combat climate change, and the impact of this on rising prices, was also addressed as one of the reasons put forward during the meeting. Upside risk Monetary policy makers agreed to view the rise in inflation this year as temporary. Nevertheless, central bank governors, including Dutch central bank governor Klaas Knott, and Bundesbank president Jens Weidmann said in public comments that there are upside risks weighing on the current outlook. Officials at the meeting differed on whether the recovery in the economy justified the slowdown in the pace of bond purchases under the pandemic emergency purchase program. Some said that purchasing should be scaled back "within the consistency of the decision-making process". In the end, the ECB thought the outlook was too fragile, and decided to continue buying at an accelerated pace until September. Three weeks before the meeting, Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, said that looking at stopping the subsidies was "too early" and "not necessary at the moment."
  13. Link:Website! Temperatures reached as high as 116 degrees in the recent heat wave that overtook the Pacifc Northwest and Western regions of the Americas. An estimated 1 billion marine animals died in the Salish Sea off the coast of Vancouver during the heat wave. The numbers are projected to increase as climate change triggers rising temperatures in many parts of the world. It wasn’t just hot enough to fry an egg on the blacktop during the recent heat wave in the Pacific Northwest; it was hot enough to cook millions of mussels alive and kill up to 1 billion marine animals, says one expert. “It’s a reminder that yes, there are very important human tolls to climate change, but the whole system around us is changing too, and we don’t know what all of the consequences of those changes are going to be," Chris Harley, a marine biologist at the University of British Columbia, told the Toronto Star. Harley estimated that 1 billion marine animals died in the Salish Sea off the coast of Vancouver during the heat wave, although his team is still gathering data. Thousands of mussels can live on an area the size of a stove top, Harley said, multiplied over hundreds of kilometers of the shore and occupying a position in the middle of the food chain, making them the "poster child" for the effects of climate change on the ecosystem. America is changing faster than ever! Add Changing America to your Facebook or Twitter feed to stay on top of the news. The severe heat wave and drought overtaking parts of the Western U.S. and nearby regions are continued symptoms of climate change, according to a new study. Research shows that animals are already dying due to the consequences of climate change on their habitats and lifestyles — and the situation is only projected to get worse. The West Coast is already preparing for a second heat wave, even as many are still recovering from heat-related illnesses brought on by the first one. “The nerdy ecologist part of me is excited to see what will happen in the coming years,” Harley told the Guardian. “But most of the rest of me is kind of depressed by it. A lot of species are not going to be able to keep up with the pace of change. Ecosystems are going to change in ways that are really difficult to predict. We don’t know where the tipping points are.”
  14. Renault CEO Luca de Meo believes that the semiconductor crisis and the shortage of chips will last until 2022 and will continue to affect the automotive world. The Renault CEO's comments came a few days after BMW warned that the semiconductor crisis would continue until the second half of this year. And the CEO of Renault revealed that the major suppliers of Renault confirm that it still has a lot to return to normal and that the shortage will continue until next year. Renault suffers from a weak production volume during the first half of this year due to this crisis, which is evident from the decline in the production rates of cars in Renault by about 100,000 cars during this year. The semiconductor crisis emerged at the end of 2020, due to the increasing demand for electronic and medical devices to counter the spread of the Corona pandemic. All car companies suffered from this crisis, which prompted some of them to reduce or stop production completely in some cases. Experts expect the auto industry as a whole to be affected by up to $110 billion in losses in new car sales. Ford F-150 is back in production Ford is back to resume production of the F-150 pickup truck with a promise to ship production models to dealerships in the near future. Ford's return to continue production of the F-150 pickup model came after a period of the American company's suffering from a shortage of semiconductor chips, which forced production lines to stop for a period. Ford received a new shipment of semiconductor chips, which allowed the company to continue production of the F-150 pickup, which is po[CENSORED]r in the off-road and pickup segment. Ford revealed that it would focus on ending production of cars that were assembled but were waiting to install semiconductor chips. Ford has not announced the number of cars for the F-150 that will appear soon after installing the semiconductor in it, but the American company confirms that it has put cars that lack semiconductor chips as a priority in production. Ford struggles in F-150 production The American company Ford admitted that it is suffering in its production of cars due to the lack of electronic units, which greatly affects the F-150 and others. The company revealed that it will produce the Ford F-150 in North America without parts due to a severe global shortage of semiconductors. Ford confirmed that the world is currently suffering from a severe shortage of semiconductors, with a shortage of spare parts due to the winter storm that ravaged the central United States of America last February. Ford explained that the company will produce Ford F-150 vehicles and keep them for several weeks before shipping them to dealers, when it is sure of the availability of the missing units and the completion of quality checks on them. It is worth noting that Ford faces a great risk if the global shortage of semiconductors continues this year, which will affect the company's profits, which have not yet exceeded its losses in 2020 due to the repercussions of the Corona virus. The chip crisis hits BMW The shortage of semiconductors, or what is known as electronic chips, continues to plague the landscape of modern industries, especially the automobile industry. And every day, new dimensions of the crisis appear, which comes in light of production obstacles that have occurred since last year due to the outbreak of the global Corona pandemic. BMW on crisis streak The German company BMW announced its expectations that the shortage of semiconductors or electronic chips will continue until the second half of this year, which means that the problem will worsen and the lack of a solution to car supply issues. "Semiconductor supply is critical, and the outlook for the second half of the year remains critical due to continued supply shortages," said BMW production chief Milan Nedelijkovic. "It is difficult to assume that the crisis will be brought under control soon and the shortage will be covered to some extent in the first half of the year," added Nedelijkovic. The speech of the head of production at BMW came during the press conference organized by the company on the sidelines of the launch of its new BMW Ix. Stopped 30,000 BMW cars The head of production at the Bavarian giant Nedelijkovic stated that BMW's share of the production deficit amounted to about 30,000 cars until the end of the second fiscal quarter of this year 2021. His expectations were not optimistic for the remaining months of the year, as he stressed that the decrease in productivity is likely in the second half of the year as well. Changes affecting the global market During the first and second quarters of this year, the car market witnessed a significant increase in sales, in the wake of many governments easing the restrictions and precautionary measures related to combating the outbreak of the global Corona pandemic. However, it is worth noting that the high demand in the car market was not matched by an increase in supply, which led to the emergence of crises in productivity and supply, especially with the exhaustion of modern cars at distributors. In the American market, according to press reports, car dealers and distributors reported that customers are accepting to buy new cars without negotiation. They pointed out that cars in high demand and lightly used cars are now selling in more numbers than they did when they were offered new. The impoverishment of new cars is one solution With the growing crisis of chips and semiconductors, stakeholders in the automotive industry are trying to come up with solutions that support their profits while at the same time providing what customers demand from the settings in each car. However, achieving gains for both parties, the seller and the buyer, is not an easy matter, as providing a technically advanced car has become a difficult matter, especially taking into account the stability on the same prices. In an attempt to confront the problem, a number of car manufacturers resorted to providing vehicles devoid of well-known settings and features, in order to end their production in light of the lack of parts required to complete the process of launching them in the market. Without a steady supply of microchips, which are imperatively needed in every high-tech manufacturing, and a backlog of business, decisions will soon become more difficult for automakers. Luxury cars are affected by the lack of chips International press reports revealed that the British giant Land Rover will stop the production of some luxury models from the company's factories due to the shortage of semiconductor microchips. Reports confirmed that Land Rover is in the process of temporarily stopping the manufacture of some famous luxury cars, most notably the Defender and Discovery models. She explained that the shortage of semiconductor microchips caused disruption of production lines at the company's factories in Nitra, Slovakia. And the number of copies that will be postponed during the coming period in the factories of Land Rover to about 150 thousand cars. Reports confirmed that after a temporary suspension of the manufacture of some luxury cars, Land Rover will be facing a huge loss of 110 billion US dollars during the current year 2021.

And Saudi Arabia decided to fix gasoline prices at a specific ceiling, so that the maximum price is the one in force for the month of last June, provided that the decision enters into force as of today. The Saudi Press Agency, "SPA", said that gasoline prices for the month of July 2021 witnessed an increase, as the price of octane 91 gasoline reached 2.28 riyals per liter, and octane 95 gasoline, worth 2.44 riyals per liter, but it is not the prices that the consumer will pay. Saudi Arabia fixes gasoline price ceiling to ease living burdens Gasoline prices in Saudi Arabia .. Did Aramco announce it? These prices are higher than those set last June, by about 10 halalas per liter of 91 octane gasoline, and 11 halalas per liter of 59 octane gasoline. However, under the generous guidance of the Saudi leadership, the Kingdom decided to bear this increase, provided that the consumer pays at the old price set last June. Gasoline prices in Saudi Arabia for the month of July 2021 This means that gasoline prices for the month of June are the same as for the month of July, set at 2.18 riyals per liter / octane 91, and 2.33 riyals per liter / octane 95. The decision to "install the ceiling" Under the decision, the state will bear what may exceed the prices of the month of June when the monthly price review. This means that gasoline prices for the month of June, set at 2.18 riyals per liter / octane 91, and 2.33 riyals per liter / octane 95, will be the maximum prices for gasoline, and prices will not exceed that, and may even decrease. "SPA" said that the decision was taken by the Executive Committee for the Governance of Adjusting the Prices of Energy and Water Products, under a generous directive, based on the Saudi leadership's keenness to reduce the living burdens of citizens and residents, and its continuous endeavor to achieve the public interest and support local economic activity. The directive ensured that the state would bear what may exceed the prices of the month of June when the monthly price review. The agency said that the periodic review of prices continues, not exceeding the mentioned ceiling.

  18. Ericsson is exploring cognitive networks to reduce operational complexity and increase energy efficiency, through two major research projects in a new collaboration announced with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The partners did not disclose the amount of funding or the length of the project, but an Ericsson spokesperson said work is already underway. The projects focus on long-term technical research to design advanced devices that could help power 5G and 6G networks in the future. 5G is paving the way for the full realization of the Internet of Things, Magnus Frodi, Head of Research at Ericsson, said in the announcement, citing “enormous amounts of small IoT devices and AI-powered cognitive networks” as “drivers for the next leap forward.” “Working with the amazing teams at MIT, we hope to develop devices that make this possible,” Frodi stated. The main focus is on research of lithium-based devices to enable neural computing. A December 2020 ZDNet article described Neural Computing, a brain-inspired model that uses less power to process artificial intelligence. Cognitive networks that use AI for highly automated, secure, data-driven processes are gaining interest from Ericsson as the Swedish vendor looks to reduce complexity for operators who need to manage large mobile network environments with increasing levels of features. Specifically, Ericsson Research and the Materials Research Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are collaborating to investigate new designs in Lithian chips that will enable neural computing "that delivers significantly more energy-efficient AI processing" than is currently available and could lead to Complete knowledge networks. An Ericsson spokesperson explained that the scope of the research includes understanding both basic semiconductor technologies, as well as AI approaches, so the potential outcome should not be viewed as one specific circuit. The project takes a holistic approach to mobile network research and the science of lithium is not limited to a specific subsystem and domain of the network. The second focus is energy harvesting technologies, mainly applied to cost-effectively low-power IoT devices supported by the mobile network. Anantha P. Chandrakasan, dean of the MIT School of Engineering, said in the announcement that the pair are tackling major technical challenges as energy-efficient devices continue to advance. “By bringing together our knowledge and Ericsson’s experience in mobile technology, we aim to develop devices that will power exciting new AI applications at the edge, and make great strides in the next generation of mobile networks,” said Chandrakasan. Ericsson will work with the MIT Electronics Research Laboratory to show how devices, such as massive amounts of sensors or other "power-free" devices, can directly harness energy from received radio signals to connect to the network. The duo will also look at systems design for how to take advantage of this lower power for simple tasks. “Besides hardware device technology, our research will include how the mobile network (RAN and Core) can be designed to connect and control these devices,” an Ericsson spokesperson said by email. It's a long-term effort, and he said the realistic realization of the results will likely be in the 6G horizon timeframe. 5G systems are still somewhat in the early stages of deployment, and while some early 6G efforts are underway, 2030 has been cited as an approximate timeline for the initial commercialization of 6G. "However, the results can still be applied to improve existing, cutting-edge 5G systems and are not necessarily tied to a specific architectural generation," the spokesperson added.
