Ok, before everyone comes at me with their verbal knife I must point out that I am all for raising awareness for charities and I understand that this challenge has raised a lot of money. However, whilst the celebrities are doing it and donating (brilliant), all I see now are youths doing it and nominating their friends to do the same, just for attention. I'm willing to bet the majority of them aren't even aware of what ALS stands for, (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), to save you a search.
For those who have no idea, here´s a "small" description about the ALS.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
It has now reached the point in which people are being called 'pussies' if they donate without completing the challenge, which is bullying, but that was only a matter of time in the world of social-networking.
Anyway, I don't mean to sound like a prude because I am pleased that ALS is getting more recognition, it's just a shame that the challenge is now being used more for po[CENSORED]rity rather than raising awareness.
