One of the benefits of being able to pick and choose our coverage is shining the spotlight on relatively unknown developers. Such is the case with the folks behind Forrest in the Forest; this small indie team reached out to us to show off their upcoming release, and I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw. Forrest in the Forest is as simple but well-crafted of a throwback platformer as you could ask for. It sees you taking on the role of an as-yet-unnamed (although I'd hazard a guess it's "Forrest) character duking it out with monsters as he leaps and dashes through 2D environments. It promises a charming throwback aesthetic with plenty of crunchy pixel graphics, a great deal of space to explore including hub areas of a town and tavern, along with a good variety of enemies to battle and abilities with which to deal with them. As I said above, it's always good to shine a spotlight on lesser-known releases. And while I don't think I'd ever claim that Forrest in the Forest is some kind of world-shaking new take on the platformer genre, a competently, passionately made project like this is something I'm always glad to see on mobile. As for when it'll arrive? According to the devs, sometime in the next 1-2 weeks from the time of writing is a good ballpark estimate, so watch this space! Dungeon Clawler will launch in early access on November 21st on mobile and Steam. From Stray Fawn Studio, Dungeon Clawer is a roguelike deck-builder in which you get your weapons from a claw machine. You’ll collect weapons and build your deck as you delve deep into a dangerous dungeon. The development team was inspired to create this claw machine deck-builder after a team trip to Japan, where they spent a good deal of yen on claw machines. Originally, the project began as a side project for one of Stray Fawn's co-founders. However, soon, the whole team found themselves invested in the roguelike deck-builder. You play as an adorable furry rabbit whose paw was taken by the evil dungeon lord. Armed with a claw to temporarily replace your lost paw, you'll wind your way through the perilous dungeon with one goal in mind: reach the dungeon lord's lair and reclaim your paw. Stray Fawn Studio also promises you’ll meet some quirky characters on your journey, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Some of these characters may even be willing to help you. Be ready to battle a variety of dungeon-dwelling foes using the weapons you obtain from the claw machine as you explore the dungeon. You’ll also discover tons of intriguing items and perks to add to your deck. These perks create devastating synergies that can change the tide of battle.
