Scythe Mugen 6

Although you may not remember it, Scythe is one of the oldest PC hardware manufacturers, and it may not be familiar to you because it had not shown signs of life for quite some time and, in fact, there was even speculation about its possible closure because there was a time in which they did not even respond to support tickets. However, now the Japanese manufacturer has announced the launch of the Mugen 6, its new top-of-the-range heatsink that shows that they are still alive.

The Japanese brand Scythe has always been characterized by two things: first, by the sober and simple designs of its heatsinks, with almost minimalist but elegant aesthetics. Second, because its simple-looking heatsinks have always provided extraordinary performance that apparently did not correspond to the size of the heatsink.

Scythe resurrects with the new Mugen 6
Among the entire Scythe catalog there are several heatsink models that have always stood out for one thing or another... models like the Big Shuriken or the Kama are quite well known, but if there is one heatsink that is legendary in the Japanese manufacturer's range, it is the Mugen, their top-selling heatsink and which has had the most revisions and versions in the entire history of the manufacturer (although they have now announced the Mugen 6, in reality it has more than 10 different revisions because they have always been launching new models with slight modifications to polish its operation).

As you can see in the image, the Scythe Mugen 6 is a heatsink with a single tower design cooled by two 120 mm fans. It has six 6 mm diameter heat pipes and has dimensions of 132 x 106 x 154.5 mm so it should not cause compatibility problems in any ATX format case and, of course, no problems with any type of RAM memory, But pay attention to the data because despite its relatively compact size, it weighs 1.01 kilograms, it is much heavier than it appears at first glance.

The two fans included are the 120 mm Scythe Wonder Tornado, with rubber inserts in the corners to absorb vibrations and with PWM operation up to 2,000 RPM and capable of pushing up to 60.29 CFM of air with an impressive static pressure of 2.45 mm H2O and all this emitting only 26.88 dBA of noise. If you understand a little about these fan parameters, you will understand that these figures are impressive.

Of course, the new Scythe Mugen 6 is compatible with all modern processor sockets from both Intel and AMD, including the latest LGA1700 from Intel and AM5 from AMD. What the manufacturer has not indicated at the moment is its heat dissipation power, but looking at its characteristics and shape we would venture to say that it could easily dissipate up to 220W of heat without problems, maybe more.

Price, availability and versions
At the moment Scythe has not revealed the price or availability date of its new top-of-the-range heatsink. However, if we stick to the precedents and what this manufacturer is used to, we would dare to say that its price will surely be around 60 Euros (as for the arrival date we cannot predict it, but if they have already announced it, it is because they already have it. They are starting to distribute to stores and we will see it on sale soon).

By the way, it will be sold in its normal version (with the block of nickel-plated silver aluminum sheets) and in Black Edition, painted black as in the image you can see above.
