It is possible that those people who do not have a very technical profile have never heard of the ARM architecture, since it is generally normal for people to only know the one used by both Intel and AMD, this being the one used in desktop computers. , but the problem with the latter mentioned is that it is developed for extremely powerful processors, so for other devices they are not very good. For this reason, ASUSTOR has decided to implement ARM in its new NAS.

If we talk about the architectures that currently exist, we can divide them depending on the device in which they are used, and the ARM architecture is the one used, for example, in the processors of mobile devices. This is because this type of technology uses less energy, and at the same time it does not lack a lot of power, if we do not compare it with a desktop processor obviously. For these reasons, this type of architecture was implemented in those devices that, for example, have a built-in battery.

ASUSTOR's reasons for using ARM in its NAS
As we have mentioned before, one of the main reasons why this architecture is used is due to the low energy cost it entails, since in a device that only fulfills one function it is a waste to use a processor that uses more than normal. which should. In this way, it becomes the best option for this brand that offers these network storage systems, since it represents savings when having this device connected.

On the other hand, the company that has presented these new models with ARM integration, indicates that the use of these processors allows its devices to have a notable improvement in CPU performance, so they will not only save energy, but that will fulfill their function in a more agile and faster way among other things, since these 4-core processors allow this new generation of storage systems to have 21% higher performance than their predecessors.

Going into more technical details, ASUSTOR has presented two new models of this type of storage system, the biggest difference that exists between these two versions is in the price and the number of bays, since the model that only includes 2 bays ($269) is cheaper than the 4-bay model ($339). Otherwise, the models include the same features and technical specifications.

As we have said before, there is not a big difference in the technical aspect of these NAS, since both incorporate 2.5 Gigabit LAN compatibility, as well as a maximum storage of 44TB in the case of the 2-bay model, and 88TB for the 4-bay model. On the other hand, they obviously allow us to configure the type of RAID we want, highlighting RAID 5, because when using this configuration, they will reach a maximum speed of 287 MB/s in reading and 293 MB/s in writing.
