That Steam is the best-known and most used gaming platform for playing on PC is not unknown, but Valve's platform never ceases to surprise us every time new statistics are published, each time breaking new records. In this case, an assessment has been made of the games launched during the past year 2023, and it has been seen that in total there are 14,535 games that were added to the platform, a new record that far exceeds previous years.

In September 2012, Valve launched the Steam Greenlight platform that allowed practically any developer - even Indie ones with hardly any budget - to launch their games on the platform, and it was a real trigger because since then the number of games that have been released has not stopped growing. have been launched. To give you an idea and whet your appetite, just 10 years ago, in 2014, 435 games were launched on the platform, 33 times less than in 2023.

Steam has been with us for almost two decades, and since it started in 2006 with only 71 games released in its catalog there has been a lot of rain, and what is certain is that Valve's platform has become the launching stage for all of them. the main developers in the world of video games. And, literally, from 2006 to 2023 the number of games released on Steam has always been increasing.

In this way, with the 71 games that were launched on the platform in 2006, they almost doubled, 136 the following year. In 2008 the figure was almost double again, 242, and in 2009, 379 games were released in total. This continued to increase over the years, but it was especially after Steam Greenlight that the platform had its greatest boom, going from 435 games released in 2023 to 1,715 in 2014, four times more.

In fact, look at the pace we're at: we're barely on January 5th and more than 80 games have already been launched on the platform, truly outrageous. It is true that many of the games that are released on Steam are, precisely, from Indie companies or even independent developers that end up having little or even no impact on the audience, but it is also true that any self-respecting PC game must be available on Steam if you want to have a good level of sales.

We have the proof of this that we have just told you in Blizzard, who very recently made Diablo IV available on Steam and that not much time had passed since the initial launch on its own platform. When the river sounds, it carries water and it certainly seems that Valve has made Steam the way to go for game developers to achieve success on PC.

Currently, Steam has a truly huge catalog of games, and it is worth mentioning the fact that each and every one of them is available exclusively digitally. Logically, Valve keeps a percentage of the sales of each game because they provide the infrastructure and the image, and currently only Epic Games manages to follow them, although not very closely from what it seems.
