Micro SD Steam Deck

The Steam Deck is one of the best-selling consoles of the moment. Its internal capacities range from 64 GB to the 512 GB model, which would be the one with the most storage as standard. However, we can expand it using microSD cards.

These memories are very simple to use, and their capacities reach up to 2 TB, which would be the maximum that the Steam Deck supports, however, they have to be in a specific format, which we will see now. It's very simple to do, don't worry.

Install an SD on the Steam Deck
The first thing we have to do is decide which card we will buy for our portable console, since we must take into account 2 factors. The first of them is the maximum capacity that the Steam Deck supports, which as we already said is 2 TB, and secondly the maximum reading speed of the equipment itself, which from 100 MB/s is irrelevant, so We will have to look for the best one for our use, without having to pay more for a better quality type, if we are not going to take advantage of it.

An example of a good microSD for the Steam Deck in terms of quality and price would be the one we leave you below. From Amazon itself and with 512 GB of memory, more than enough for most users.

Now that we have our card, it's time to install it. How is it done? Well, it's very simple. Although the Steam Deck console requires a specific format of this memory to be able to read it, it is not necessary for us to do previous steps on a computer or other equipment for it to work.

We will only have to put it in our portable console, and it will recognize it, and later ask us if we want to use it on it. If you accept, we have to know that the card will be formatted and adapted to the Steam Deck, so all the data we had inside will be lost.

In case this message does not appear, all you have to do is navigate to Settings and then Storage. You'll see your SD card listed here. Press Y to open the options menu and press Format Drive.

Now yes, whatever the method, you won't have to do anything, just worry about not losing data you have on it, because once done you can use it on your console without any further steps or processes. Likewise, you can connect it to the PC to extract its data without having to delete everything again when we put it back on the console, since it will already be in its correct format.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that the SSD unit of the console itself will be much faster than an external SD, so it would be recommended that you purchase the Steam Deck based on the use you are going to give it, and that if any day you need it, add an external card, but not as a main storage unit, purchasing the cheapest console and buying an SD.
