In the gaming world there is no more notable occasion than the GOTYs ceremony. That competition to see which game emerges victorious is what video gamers are most passionate about. And this 2023 edition has been full of controversies.

Although there is usually always a game that will clearly take home the statuette and other titles that are set to make waves, in this year's edition absolutely all of the nominees are authentic great games.

And today to commemorate such a legendary edition of the GOTYs, today we have ordered all the nominees for the game of the year from worst to best according to the Metacritic scholars. So we start:

6. Alan Wake 2

We start our list with Alan Wake 2, the game that fans of the first installment have been waiting for for more than a decade has finally arrived and it is a truly great game that will not leave anyone indifferent. Although she is better than her predecessor, someone has to take last place. On Metacritic it has a score of 88.

5. Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The second adventure of Marvel's Spider-Man has taken everything that made its first installment legendary and multiplied it by 100, including new characters that fans were dying to include, such as Kraven, the Lizard and even Venom himself. With all this, it remains in fifth place on the list, with a 90 on Metacritic.

4. Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the new installment in the platform franchise of Nintendo's Italian plumber. Although it hasn't exactly invented the wheel, it is true that it is devilishly fun, making each game you play better than the last. On Metacritic it has an incredible score of 92 out of 100.

3. Resident Evil 4

It is not very common for a remake to make it onto the GOTY nomination list. But of course, if a franchise has managed to elevate remakes to a very high status, it has been Resident Evil. The remake of the fourth game is, in many ways, better than the original from 2005 and ideal for survival horror fans. It has a score of 93.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does something very similar to what Spider-Man 2 did a few posts ago, taking everything that made Breath of the Wild great and elevating it to maximum power. Plus, its open world is really good. With all this, it is not surprising that it has a 96 on Metacritic.

1. Baldur's Gate 3

As expected, the game that took home the prize had to take the gold medal in our ranking as well. The biggest surprise of the year, Baldur's Gate 3 is not only the best game of the year, but also one of the best fantasy titles we have ever played. It has a score of 96.
