What disadvantages does this have?
The first of them, logically, is the expense of an adapter or cable, although that is obvious. However, there is another one that we have to take into account when playing our content, and that is the versions we have, both adapter, cable, and ports.

That is, our graphics card and DisplayPort cable can be 2.0 at 77.4 GB/s, however, that speed is not accepted by an HDMI standard, and, therefore, we will limit ourselves to the speed that it offers us, depending on the version. What this one has will be one or the other.

This not only happens by connecting a more modern standard with higher speed to a lower one, but also by the type of cable or adapter. Even if we have a 2.0 port, if the cable does not meet the standards, we will not get its speed either.

It is something very recurring in HDMI. People who buy the cheapest one and then watch content in HD that they could view on their 2K monitor at a higher resolution, just because they don't pay attention to the version of it, thinking that they are all the same. And the thing is, cheap is expensive.

In short, you can do it in two different methods, but keep in mind the limitations, and do not want to do this because DisplayPort supports better speeds, since if you are going to transmit from an HDMI monitor, these will not meet your expectations, so , this is only a solution if you have no other way to do it.
