Robinson will spend at least 14 years in jail

A teenage boy convicted of murdering a 17-year-old can be named after a judge lifted a reporting restriction.

 

Zak Robinson, 17, was jailed for life on Monday for the murder of Harley Brown in Huddersfield in February.

 

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also jailed for life after the pair admitted murder at Leeds Crown Court.

 

West Yorkshire Police's Det Supt Alan Weekes said they were "prepared to use appalling violence, almost on a whim".

The court had heard how the pair, who were "under the influence of nitrous oxide", chased Harley along Kings Mill Lane and then attacked him with knives in the early hours after a chance meeting.

 

The boys were aged 14 and 16 at the time of the murder.

 

They had been due to stand trial after pleading not guilty, but last month they changed their pleas to guilty.

 

Robinson, from Dalton in Huddersfield, will serve a minimum jail term of 14 years and six months, while the 15-year-old will spend at least 10 years and three months in prison.

 

In a statement issued after sentencing, Brown's mother said: "You two get to continue with your lives, Harley doesn't, I don't, his sisters don't, his brother doesn't.

 

"You have destroyed a whole family.".
