Starfield.

Starfield has been one of the great releases of the year. No one can doubt that, although another thing is that it is finally confirmed that the players are abandoning their space epic sooner than many in Redmond believed. At the end of the day, it is so gigantic that we can return to it in a while and not have the feeling of having missed something.

In recent days, information had proliferated about a massive drop in players within Starfield. So many that maximum peaks had been detected that were below what Skyrim could have right now, 12 years after its launch for PS3 and Xbox 360. But if we look at what they say from Microsoft, there doesn't seem to be any reason to fear anything. nothing. No?

An unprecedented success for Starfield
It has once again been Phil Spencer who has been in charge of giving voice to the virtues of Starfield, drawing on his own experience when he was able to try it for the first time: «Starfield has been incredible […] One of the special things about my job is that I can play games very early in development. “I was actually playing Starfield this time last year… and I was thinking when I was playing, from the fact that I couldn't put it down for a minute, that this was probably going to be a very special game.”

What's more, he dared to give figures, revealing that Starfield has managed to reach a peak of 12 million players, of which a fairly high percentage has surely been able to enjoy it thanks to the fact that it is included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription. So technically, in this case a 1:1 conversion cannot be made between the number of players and units sold from Bethesda development.

That could be one of the big drawbacks of this launch, that unless there is a new order it will be ad eternum within the service so the sales figures will have to be transformed into other metrics to know the economic return of such a high investment, only comparable to the from that mythical Skyrim of 2011.

Long way to go
It is true that from this moment on it remains to be known exactly what Starfield's journey will be, whether it will become a new Skyrim that has managed to add 60 million copies sold around the world to date - between original games, remasters, etc. – or if, on the contrary, it will not have as much travel nor will it be as supported by the community.

Of course, it is obvious that content is not needed right now because there are many players who have ventured into it and have not been able to see even a sufficient percentage for Bethesda to urgently consider devising and implementing a policy of DLC or season passes that complement the campaign. After all, in the days after it went on sale, some information indicated that only 20% of those who started it made it beyond the first stages of the adventure. Outside the tutorial.
