The Game Awards 2022 google

If you're wondering why I'm posting this so late, it's because I stayed up last night to watch The Game Awards 2022 live. For the second year in a row, I represented the Zone as part of the official jury of the event, and I felt very happy. So between sips of coffee, I sorted through my notes from last night and I'm going to give you a brief rundown of what happened at the event. I put them in chronological order (until I lost track) and I really hope I didn't miss anything.

The Game Awards kicked off with a half-hour introductory segment, during which the winners of several categories were revealed and we saw some very interesting trailers. I'll start with the games, because that's what we're all interested in, and the evening started off strong with the news that Returnal is coming to PC. Soon we saw images from the new game Hellboy: Web of Wyrd and the warm-up party continued with a new title from the Horizon universe. Call of the Mountain is being developed for PSVR2 and looks set to be a launch title for PlayStation's new virtual reality headset.

A title I've been following for some time is Atomic Heart. At The Game Awards 2022 I got to see him in all his Wolfenstein student glory and I can say that I'm very pleased with what I saw. Next came Among Us Hide'n'Seek which sent the room into a frenzy and I was introduced to After Us - a game that sent me thinking straight to the Legend of Zelda series. And if it's going to be like that, I'm glad that a similar game will make its way to platforms other than the Nintendo Switch. This entrance ended with the trailer of Street Fighter 6 which looks very good and has a rather fresh air. After that the transition to the main event was made and we will do it too, but not before taking a look at the winners of the first scoring categories:

Best Mobile Game – Marvel Snap;
Best Fighting Game – Multiversus;
Best Family Game – Kirby and the Forgotten Land;
eSports Awards: Best Game (Valorant), Best Athlete (YAY), Best Team (Loud), Best Coach (BZKA) and Best Event (2022 League of Legends World Championship).

The Game Awards 2022 main event was crazy!
The main event didn't even get off to a good start and we could already see Al Pacino walking on stage. It featured the winner of the Best Actor title and was just one of the big names that made an appearance at the gala. Along with the legendary actor we could see Hozier and Daniel Craig, but also important faces from the video game industry such as Phil Spencer (Xbox CEO), Reggie Fils-Aime (former Nintendo president) and many others. But the stars of the show were all the games, so I'll make two lists. First we talk about the games that won various awards at The Game Awards 2022, then we talk about the future and take a look at the hottest announcements.

Elden Ring  God of War Ragnarok Review

Elden Ring has been crowned the best game of 2022, and it's a well-deserved title. Even if I would have chosen God of War Ragnarok, I cannot deny the correct victory of the souls-like game. Especially since it won several awards, so I'm going to list them all here: Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Role Playing. But just as impressive was the collection of titles grabbed by the God of War sequel which went home as the winner of the following categories: Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Performance (Christopher Judge as Kratos), Innovation in Accessibility and Best Action / Adventure. And lo and behold, 10 out of 31 awards were shared between this year's giants.

The other titles to win in more than one category are Final Fantasy XIV and cat indie sensation Stray. The game developed by Annapurna Interactive took home the Best Indie and Best Debut Indie titles after impressing gamers with its release in July this year. Final Fantasy XIV on the other hand isn't a new title, but that's what makes it special, so it's still holding on heroically 12 years after its initial release and won Best Ongoing and Best Community Support.

We also have Bayonetta 3 which won Best Action Game and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope which went home crowned Best Sim / Strategy. The rest of the winners are as follows:

Games for Impact – As Dusk Falls;
Best VR / AR – Moss: Book II;
Best Sports / Racing – Gran Turismo 7;
Best Multiplayer – Splatoon 3;
Content Creator of the Year – Ludwig;
Best Adaptation – Arcane: League of Legends;
Most Anticipated Game – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Last night's hottest announcements
The Game Awards 2022 didn't just serve as an award show, it brought together the entire video game industry. In addition to the releases that excited us in the year that is about to end, we also got to know some of the titles that we will be able to play in 2023. Here we have made a selection of the games or DLCs that caught my eye attention, so we're going to do a group exercise and I want you to tell me in the comments which of last night's presentations particularly stood out to you. I start!

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the first major expansion for CD Projekt Red's game. If I found Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand impressive, the introduction of Idris Elba as Solomon Reed left me speechless. The actor known for his appearances in Marvel Cinematic Universe films and series like Luther comes to Night City as part of a DLC that introduces new mechanics, new combat modes, a different story and characters and bizarrely, is only available on the platforms current, so no PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

Also in the DLCs category we could also see the next expansion for Horizon Forbidden West. It's about Burning Shores that takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles and takes the game's story forward. And to finish with the expansions, the Dead Cells universe has become more interesting now, after the collaboration with Castlevania.

But let's move on to the big news and talk about the most exciting games we saw at The Game Awards 2022. We start with Hades 2, the sequel to one of the best games of 2018 that took both critics and fans by surprise. and gamers at the time. Also in the category of sequels we are also talking about Death Stranding 2, and here is an interesting story. Hideo Kojima had already started work on the second game in the series, but his plans were overturned by the pandemic so he complied and rewrote everything to adapt it to the times. In this way, I think this will be the first big game to tackle the theme of COVID-19.

en Levine is a household name in the industry as the brilliant mind behind BioShock. It should come as no surprise that Judas, his next game, was received with open arms by the public. The game appears to be a narrative-driven survival FPS and has strong BioShock vibes. I can't complain and I can't wait to learn more about him. We also have a new game from the Star Wars universe, so Respawn Entertainment presented us with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. As you might have guessed from the name, this is a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, and if it's at least as good, we'll be talking about it a lot more.

Diablo 4 is coming in 2023 alongside Street Fighter 6 and games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Other titles worth mentioning are The Last of Us Part I coming to PC in Spring 2023 and a prequel to this year's best action game, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

That was The Game Awards 2022, an edition where Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok flexed their muscles and went home with a total of ten awards. We got to know a lot of new and exciting games, saw what I'll be wasting hundreds of hours on in 2023, and celebrated with this year's favorite games that managed to get their hands on well-deserved trophies. I would have liked to see games like A Plague Tale: Requiem or Horizon: Forbidden West on the list of winners, but with such strong competition 2022 was not their year.
