[X]pErT-
The PlayStation 5 Slim detachable disc drive could become unusable in the future once the online services used to register the drive will no longer be available in the event of a console reset. As reported by Does It Play? on X/Twitter, resetting the console will also unregister the drive, meaning that the user will have to register it again online to use it. While this is expected from a full reset, given how online services aren't eternal, if things will remain the same, the detachable disc drive will eventually become unusable. According to other unverified reports, the internal disc drive also seems to suffer from the same issue. This is definitely bad news for preservation, so hopefully, Sony will address the matter in the future, considering the PlayStation 5 Slim will eventually replace the original model released in late 2020. Alongside supporting the detachable disc drive, the new console revision has some improvements over the original modes, such as a 1 TB SSD, providing slightly more storage space, and two USB Type-C ports. The PlayStation 5 Slim started rolling out worldwide this month. A few bundles, such as a Marvel's Spider-Man 2 bundle, will also become available this month. https://wccftech.com/playstation-5-slim-detachable-drive-unusable/
