General Atomics has revealed a new ammunition for 155mm artillery pieces. It is called a Long Range Maneuvering Projectile (LRMP).

At the Sea Air Space 2023 presentation, a representative of the American company noted that the new 155mm ammunition can be used by M777 artillery units, which have a 39-caliber cannon. The maximum range of the LRMP is 150km. .

In order for the ammunition to reach the target at its maximum range, it has to reach a high altitude. The projectile then separates from the master device, spreads its wings, and heads towards the target at the given coordinates.

General Dynamics plans to conduct its first test of the LRMP later this month, to be followed by extensive testing later in the year. The company also plans to adapt the ammunition to fit the ship's 127mm artillery. In this configuration, the maximum range will be reduced to 100 km.
