US authorities have been fighting the use of Chinese-made drones by government agencies for several years. Little by little, the government has been restricting the use of drones from the Middle Kingdom, and now a total ban has come into effect in Florida.

Florida government agencies are no longer allowed to use Chinese-made drones. First of all, we are talking about DJI products, which have about 70% of the quadcopter market.

The bill was introduced in 2020, passed in 2021, and went into effect this week. Some of the rules already existed before. For example, photos and videos of Chinese drones could be seen in public. In addition, there were special requirements on the storage of UAVs.

The authorities believe that the Chinese quadcopters can collect information and send it to the PRC government. Florida government agencies will be able to use drones from Parrot, Skydio, Altavia, Teal and Vantage Robotics.

The police and fire services are not very happy about the ban. They have been using DJI drones in their operations for some time and say that it is difficult to find a decent replacement with adequate functionality and a decent price.

DJI has already commented on the decision of the Florida authorities. The company has stated that the software and the quadcopters have passed all kinds of tests and certifications from the Department of the Interior and the US Chamber of Commerce.
