Lockheed Martin has begun a series of tests of the Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptor missile with new software. Following the tests, the upgrade will be extended to deployed air defense batteries.

PAC-3 Program Vice President Brenda Davidson stated that the updates "will improve the effectiveness of the system against evolving threats." He added that Lockheed Martin will continue to invest in improvements to the missile interceptor to provide reliable protection for customers around the world.

The MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement) version features a large solid propellant engine and improved actuators. The interceptor is designed to destroy enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.

The current test was the first in a series of tests intended to test the latest software update. Lockheed Martin claimed that the PAC MSE interceptor was capable of successfully destroying an advanced medium-range ballistic missile.
