The US Department of Defense has allocated additional funds for the production and maintenance of the Trident II (D5) missiles. This was officially announced on the Pentagon website.

Lockheed Martin has received more than $474 million to produce new ballistic missiles and support those already deployed for the Trident system's strategic missile cruisers. 62.9% of the work will be done at the Lockheed Martin plant in Utah. The company will also perform contract work at facilities in Arkansas, Illinois, Colorado, Maryland, Maine, California, Florida, Pennsylvania and Missouri. The contract must be completed before September 30, 2027.

In addition, the Pentagon has allocated $44 million to General Dynamics. It will support the fire control systems of the strategic missile cruisers, which are carriers of Trident II (D5) ballistic missiles. These are the Ohio-class submarines of the US Navy and the Vanguard-class submarines of the British Royal Navy. The works provided for in the contract must be completed by April 30, 2025.

The Trident II (D5) is a fourth-generation ballistic missile for nuclear-powered submarines. It can carry individual targeting units with 100 and 475 kiloton thermonuclear warheads.

The Trident II (D5) measures 13.42 meters long and 2.11 meters in diameter. The maximum launch range on a full charge is 7800 km. Using a small number of units, the missile can destroy targets at a distance of 11,300 km.
