Voge, the brand of the Chinese manufacturer Loncin, launches its own version of the 400 scooter whose mechanics are related to the BMW C400, with a launch price.

The brand that owns the powerful Chinese manufacturer Loncin, does not hide the origin of its new scooter: it comes from the development of the "Germans" BMW C400X and C400GT, which they manufacture for them (hence the quotes), a collaboration that has lasted two decades with other models. In fact, both the engine and the chassis of the Voge SR4Max are shared with the German models, and we think that they have correctly designed a scooter halfway between the "naked" C400X or the tourist C400GT. The Voge SR4Max is a sport-tourism scooter whose price is irresistible: 5,789 euros with a 5-year warranty (it is the launch price that will go up to 6,289 euros, still well below its German "relatives").

The mechanics of this scooter is therefore an old acquaintance of those who know the BMW C400: a 349.8 cc single-cylinder engine that curiously does not speed up the displacement assumed in its name, it is a 350, not a 400. With a modern design, it has an axle of balancing and an overhead camshaft with 4 valves and offers a respectable power of 34 CV at 7500 rpm, that is to say in line with the best in the category: apart from the BMWs, the KYMCO Xciting 400 and the SYM MaxSym 400 They equal in power and slightly outperform in maximum torque.

A rigid frame made of steel tubes with round and square sections holds a fork with 35 mm bars in front and a traditional suspension (carrier engine) at the rear, and by design it prevents having a flat platform (it gains rigidity and leaves space for the gasoline tank, of 12.8 liters). The weight rises to 214 kg, like the BMW GT (the minimalist "X" weighs 8 kg less), and is explained by a very well equipped equipment: as you can see the fairing is sporty but wide (it protects well), with a seat that welcomes the pilot very well and also the passenger well. Under the seat there is a large hole, whose volume is somewhat compromised by the habit of putting helmet "shapes" at the bottom. It's fine if it fits a helmet, or two (full-face and open here), but it's better to leave as much space as possible, even if it's square or irregular, and so we can fit a medium backpack or laptop (now, no).

We do have two frontal glove compartments, whose closing is centralized with the contact, and which have a cigarette lighter socket (12 V) and USB. And another thing: microSD card slot… for the front camera. Yeah! I am very happy about this news and one day all motorcycles will have one: apart from uploading routes to social networks, it is something that can be vital in the event of an accident, bearing witness to what happened. Another thing that all bikes will have one day is adjustable levers... but unfortunately on this Voge it is not like that. It does have another "essential": handbrake with an ingenious locking system for the left lever. The windshield screen is large, but you will have to decide in which position you leave it (it is done with a tool), for me in the high one (as you can see in the photos) it was ideal.

But I can't complain about much else, the electronic key works perfectly (and has a hidden mechanism if something goes wrong) and the TFT screen offers good information, including tire pressure (great). By the way, an excellent detail to mount a Pirelli Angel Scooter as standard: few change the tires of their scooter and having "good tires" at the entrance is a guarantee of behavior and safety (it has 15 inches in front and 14 inches in the rear, like the BMWs of course). Braking is well served (two 265 mm discs in front with JJuan radial calipers) and in addition to ABS we have traction control, which on a scooter with these features is a welcome help on slippery surfaces (the clutch and variator do not allow "playing around"). ” as in a gear motorcycle). All the lights are LED (the brake with emergency indicator and the traction control are too distracting) and I liked that the front ones illuminate well and make you visible. It even has "cornering light": turning on the turn signal activates another LED on that side (a good idea, although very urban).

On the move: good balance
It seemed to many of us that between the BMW C400X and C400GT something intermediate was missing, neither as naked (and not very attractive) as the X nor as relatively bulky in the city as the GT. Well here we have it: the Voge SR4Max is more in line with the GT but being somewhat more compact and, of course, with a much more affordable price. They even have attractive financing with an entry fee of 1,800 euros and 72 installments of 69 per month... But price aside, the truth is that this Voge convinced us on the move: the engine and chassis were well-known and have been well equipped, so no surprises The engine pulls smoothly (more than other 400s, somewhat rough) but quite energetic, it seems to me that it is more in line with the Hondas (Forza and ADV 350) although it runs a little more.

Two curious things happened to us, which I don't know if they will be the subject of the first units:
