It's #TechTember, and we're in conversation with the cover star of our September issue, PV Sindhu. She gives us the skinny on the next best gadget for her fitness workflow — the new Apple Watch Series 8, the best one yet. It's got all the features you loved about the previous models, plus some awesome new ones that will help you stay even more connected to your health and fitness. Just 24 hours with it, and PV says she's already feeling empowered. Grazia: So, which features do you use the most?

PV Sindhu: The Apple Watch Series 8 has features that I use frequently — Always-On display, Heart Rate, ECG, Blood Oxygen, Cycle Tracking, Workout, and Cellular Connectivity — to stay healthy, fit, and, well, connected. It's gotten even better now with the new Temperature Sensing, safety features like Crash Detection, and enhanced battery life with Low Power Mode.G: So why does the temperature sensor matter so much to you?

P: Temperature sensing is a game-changer. While it serves as a great wellness feature for everyone to track changes in their temperature, it can be more useful for women to help track their ovulation cycles by providing retrospective ovulation estimates. This is very empowering for a woman and can help in family planning. In addition, with watchOS 9, the Cycle Tracking app enables improved period predictions, which is crucial to women's health.

G: We've heard many stories about how the Apple Watch has always been a lifesaver. What's particularly impressive about this generation of Apple Watch Series?

P: Crash Detection is an excellent life-saving feature on the Apple Watch Series 8 that I hope none of us will ever need. For the first time, Apple Watch can detect if you're in a severe car crash. In addition, it will automatically connect you with emergency services, provide your location and notify your emergency contacts.

G: When on the go, what's your go-to mode?

P: I wear my Apple Watch constantly, and the new Low Power Mode on Series 8 helps me extend battery life up to 36 hours allowing me to stay connected on the go.G: Tell us about the Sleep Tracking feature. Have you tried it out?

P: Sleep has become a luxury between all the traveling and constantly changing time zones. I find enhanced sleep tracking in watchOS 9 to be very empowering. It gives me even more insights with the introduction of Sleep stages. Thanks to my Apple Watch Series 8, I can plan and monitor my sleep more closely, understand how long I stay awake, and spend time in REM, Core, and Deep sleep to see its impact on my training and readiness. The best way to improve health, performance and fitness is to optimise my recovery strategies and understand my sleep patterns.

G: How do you track your workouts on the watch?

P: Finally, the Workout app that I rely on to train has improved with new Workout views, Heart Rate Zones to track the intensity of my workout and the ability to customise my workout. Essentially, I have my own personal strength and conditioning coach at my fingertips all the time.
