Draeno Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 SSDs have won the performance battle over HDDs in desktop computers. But little by little they are taking over another market that was owned by veterans: that of external devices. External cases have a lot to say here and are increasingly in demand, due to the drop in SSD prices. Therefore, ASUS has introduced a new model that includes RGB and USB 3.2. Luckily for us, the price of SSDs has been going down and, almost along with it, their performance and capacity has gone up. Currently we can find 512 GB or even 1 TB SSDs for affordable prices, where we are already seeing some 2 TB ones that are interesting in the euro/GB ratio. ASUS, like other brands, are seeing a vein to exploit in this field, where in this case the brand has not launched an external SSD as such, but a case so that we can include the model that suits us best, and always providing the maximum benefits. Said model is the ROG Strix Arion and it arrives as an external case for M.2 with support for formats up to 2280 under the NVMe interface. This does not imply that it is limited to this format, since in addition to 2280 it supports 2230, 2242 and 2260, all PCIe NVMe. The problem with the vast majority of these accessories is that users trust the product they buy and tend to think that they will be able to insert high-performance devices into them without problems. Unfortunately, only a few models are capable of guaranteeing performance. This ROG Strix Arion will not suffer from problems such as bottlenecks or throttling due to high temperatures, since it is made entirely of aluminum and will include a high-quality thermal pad for our SSD, allowing temperatures to be kept at bay. Another key point of this ROG Strix Arion is the fact that we will not need any type of tool to install our SSD, since the mechanism slides and the fixing screw is easily accessible and tightened. How could it be otherwise in a ROG product, this case will have compatibility with Aura Sync, where we can change and synchronize the RGB LEDs that it includes. This compatibility is offered through a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C, which will offer us a theoretical bandwidth of 10 Gbps, where the other end of the cable will be the already common USB Type A, since not all current PCs support, at the moment , the Type C. In addition, ASUS includes a fastening system with its casing so that it can be carried with us securely tied and not lost, such as in a backpack, a carabiner or the like. At the moment ASUS will begin to introduce this ROG Strix Arion from October 8 in Taiwan and will progressively extend to the rest of the world in an unspecified period. What we do know is that it will arrive for an approximate price of about 60 euros. 1
