A ruling by the ruling coalition could have the effect of reducing excise duties on fuel, with the aim of lowering their price at refueling stations. For the time being, the agreement on the principle reached at a high level in the political echelon covers a period of three months.

During the meeting on Tuesday, February 22, the Minister of Finance Adrian Câciu announced: "I proposed to the coalition leaders the solution of the temporary reduction of 50% of the excise tax on fuels, a measure that would reduce the pump price immediately by more than 1 lei."

The decisive measure for bringing fuel prices back below the 7 lei threshold is to reduce excise duties by 50%. Consultations on this subject are to take place with the European Commission and the major fuel distribution companies, after which a final analysis by the Ministry of Finance is required before the measure can be implemented.
