Farmers, teachers and members of social organizations are preparing for this Monday, October 18, a new mobilization called "National Day of Unitary Struggle", which was announced last October 1 during the First National Meeting of Agricultural Producers of Ecuador, which was held in Portoviejo (Manabi).

This meeting was organized by the National Agricultural Front for Food Sovereignty of Ecuador (Fenasae), made up of the livestock sectors, dairy, sugar cane growers, banana growers, oriteros, rice growers, corn growers, maracuyeros, bean growers, coffee growers, onion growers, paper growers, cocoa growers, fathers , fruit growers, palm growers, pitahayeros, horticulturists and artisanal fishermen, among others.

The producers were joined by representatives of the National Union of Educators (UNE), who also participated in the last day of protests, which took place on September 15, which culminated in the resignation of the then Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Tanlly Vera; after the closure of roads in the provinces of Guayas and Los Ríos.

“This day of October 18 is important. We ask for the freezing of the price of fuels and respect for the official price of our products ”, said Luis Pilalot, national coordinator of the National Federation of Insured for Rural Social Security (Feunassc), through a video on social networks.

The price of fuel is adjusted each month by a system of bands that has been applied since the previous government. On October 12, they went back up. A gallon of diesel sells for $ 1,698, and extra and extra gasoline with ethanol for $ 2,502; which means an increase of $ 0.11 in the case of extra and extra gasoline with ethanol, while in diesel the increase is $ 0.04 compared to the rates that were in force until October 11.

Other requests of the organizations are to control the agro-smuggling of agricultural products, regulate the importation of food from abroad, regulate the prices of agricultural inputs, grant credits at 1% and a 30-year term, irrigation, technical assistance, environmental conservation policies and Water.
