[Economics] Fuels: entry into force of the EURO 6 standard from January 2022 in Morocco

As part of the Kingdom's efforts for cleaner mobility and after several studies and rounds of discussion, two major decrees have just been issued. The first decree, of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, promulgated on July 16 and published in the BO of August 23, relates to the adoption of new characteristics of the components of SUPER LEAD FREE and GASOIL 10 PPM fuels. These will now meet the EURO 6 standard, the distribution of which will begin on January 1, 2022 and will then be generalized from May 1, 2022 across the whole Kingdom. The second decree, of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, (promulgated on August 05, 2021 and published in the BO of September 23, 2021) clarifies the regulatory mechanism for the implementation of the EURO 6b standard for new homologations of new vehicles. Thus, from January 1, 2023, any new homologation of a new model must obligatorily meet the characteristics of Standard EURO 6b. In addition, all vehicles in stock with importers that do not meet this standard can be marketed until December 31, 2023.
