Dark Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 A scientific expedition carried out four decades ago caught the attention of herpetologist Pablo Venegas and encouraged him to organize a new one to continue discovering the biodiversity of the Colán Mountain Range, in the Amazon region, a western slope of the Peruvian Andes Mountain Range that has been very little explored. Thus began the discovery of 26 new species for science in Peru - 22 amphibians and 4 reptiles - that were found in two of the expeditions carried out in August and November 2019. «I was struck by the fact that during an expedition of ornithologists in 1978 they had managed to collect several frogs in that area, without looking for them, which turned out to be new to science. That made me think that if they had found several amphibians without searching, how many new species of frogs and snakes could be found there? ”, Reflects Venegas, leader of the expedition and president of the Peruvian Institute of Herpetology (IPH). https://elcomercio.pe/tecnologia/ecologia/los-secretos-de-la-cordillera-de-colan-cientificos-suman-26-nuevas-especies-de-anfibios-y-reptiles-para-la-ciencia-noticia/
