El neerlandés Max Verstappen (Red Bull).

Today in a few hours the first qualifying in history will be decided through a sprint race.

In the best of his 23 laps, Verstappen covered the 5,891 meters of the legendary English track with a medium tire in one minute, 29 seconds and 902 thousandths, 375 less than the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), with the same compound as the leader ; in a session in which the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, a teammate of the previous one and who did 29 laps, signed the third time, soft, six tenths behind the Dutch.

The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) marked the fifth time, with means. In the best of his 27 laps, the man from Guadalajara was almost nine tenths behind his Dutch teammate.

The other Spanish, the double Asturian world champion Fernando Alonso (Alpine), marked the thirteenth time of a sunny session, which ended with 25 degrees Celsius and 47 on the asphalt, in which no notable incidents were recorded. Alonso repeated the track layout 27 times on which he won twice (2006, with Renault; and 2011, with Ferrari) and in his best attempt he was, on a soft tire, one second and three tenths behind Verstappen's time.

The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes, second in the World Championship, 32 points behind Verstappen), marked the eighth time of training, with the soft compound - one second and 229 thousandths of the Dutchman in the best of his 27 laps. Hamilton will start first, at 4.30pm (5.30pm CST, 3.30pm GMT), in the first qualifying session in F1 history to be decided by a sprint test. Expected to 17 laps and a hundred kilometers: a third of the Sunday race.

'Checo' will start fifth in this short test, while Spaniards Sainz and Alonso will also seek to advance places on the grid of Sunday's race from ninth and eleventh position this Saturday.
