Mindsphere. Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 My family: Mother: duck Father: Duckling The child: duckling Family group: flock of ducks What I look like: I am a flattened, boat-like swimming bird. My feathers, even the soft, warm fluff beneath them, do not get wet because they are anointed with a special oil produced by a gland at the base of the tail. I have short wings and tail. The toes of my toes are joined by a membrane that helps me a lot to swim. My beak is special, flattened horizontally, it has a kind of nail on top, which helps me dig with it in the mud, and the edges of the beak are very finely serrated, like a sieve, helping me to feed in water. On land, my walk is cumbersome and swaying. How much do I weigh: I weigh between 1.5 and 6 kg. How long do I live: I can reach the age of 15. What I eat: I have a diverse menu - I can eat herbs, aquatic plants, fish, insects, worms, small mollusks and seeds. Where you meet me: I am a water bird, smaller than my relatives, swans and geese and due to the fact that I love water, I am found everywhere: near rivers, lakes, ponds… How my family grows: the mother-duck hatches for 21-28 days the eggs from which the duck buds come out, in a nest lined with down on the chest to be warmer. The chicks are covered in down and can leave the nest just a few hours after hatching. How I behave: I am a docile, unpretentious bird, which likes water very much. What you use from me: meat, eggs, fatty liver and feathers / down. Did you know that? there are almost 150 breeds: Pekin, mandarin, dwarf, emerald ducks it is said that the groaning of the duck has no echo, and the fox ducks are dumb… wild ducks can fly up to 500 km / day… duck eyes have three eyelids… duck mating usually takes place in water… ducks are found all over the world, except in Antarctica… the most famous duck is Donald Duck (character created in 1934 by Walt Disney) have been domesticated for more than 500 years. 3
