Deisy Rivas Castro

Caracas Deisy Rivas Castro died yesterday after being hit by a stray bullet while cooking in her apartment on Avenida Páez del Paraíso. The west of Caracas was the center of a crossfire between the 'Coqui' mega-gang and the police and military agents with a balance in favor of the criminals.

The confrontation began this Friday when the criminals were unable to assault the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Guard command in El Paraíso to steal weapons and military material. Failing in their attempt, the gang leaders known as the Coqui, Garbis and Vampi took various points of the city, robbing and shooting at the uniformed men and the civilian drivers.

Antonio Dos Santos, Deisy Rivas' husband, declared through her Twitter account: "We always take care of her on the street and they come to kill her inside her own house," he said pitifully. Neighbors recorded videos from various avenues and highways in the city and in one of them it is observed how they robbed a citizen, who pleadingly asked them: "Don't kill me, brother, I swear, I'm a doctor" while the motorcycle was snatched from him.

At the end of the multiple shooting, the 'Coqui' mega-gang released three National Guard officials, held at Cota 905. The criminals also executed four of their companions whose bodies were thrown down the La Planicie tunnel downspout, as a kind of peace offering.

That day, Caracas was subjected to a criminal activity that terrified the people of Caracas. But what worries the most is seeing the freedom with which the underworld acts, without any type of control by the authorities and security forces. The regime did not even give an official report on the shooting as if it had not happened.
