HiTLeR Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Diriyah witnessed this evening the start of the races of the inaugural round of the seventh season of the “EPB Via Formula E” world championship, which the Kingdom hosts for two consecutive days at the historical Diriyah circuit, organized by the Ministry of Sports in cooperation with the Saudi Federation of Cars and Motorcycles. The Dutchman "Nick De Vries" of the Mercedes Benz EQ team won the first round title and first place in the race, after strong competition from the Swiss "Eduardo Montara" from the Rocket Venturi Racing team, who came in second place, while the New Zealander Mitch Evans finished From Jaguar Racing team in third place. The inaugural round kicked off at 8:00 pm and lasted for 45 minutes of competition, with the participation of 24 drivers representing 12 international teams. After the end of the race, a special press conference was held at the Media Center for the Formula E Diriyah race, which hosted more than 130 media professionals from the Kingdom and various countries of the world, representing 10 television channels and 60 printed and electronic media, where the three winners spoke during the conference, expressing their happiness with the results They achieved, and indicated the professionalism of the organization and the warm reception they found from the organizers in the Kingdom. The first day started with the second free trials at 2 pm, followed by the qualifiers that took place in four groups to determine the starting positions, where Dutchman Nick De Vries from the Mercedes-Benz EQ team succeeded in achieving the fastest time (1:08:15), followed by German Pascal Wehrlin from TAG Heuer Porsche (1: 08.821), while the third place went to German Rein Rast of the Audi Sport Apt Scheffler team (1: 08.869). While the Formula E Diriyah competitions continue tomorrow, with the holding of the second round of the championship, where the contestants will continue their competitions without a public presence, as part of the implementation of precautionary measures and preventive measures for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and to preserve the safety and protection of the participants. It is noteworthy that the "Formula E Diriyah" race 2021, was held under the lights of the 2.83 km circuit with low-consumption LED technology, for the first time in the history of the race, which is powered by completely renewable energy and reduced energy consumption by up to 50 percent, compared to other technologies. That which does not use LED lights, as a main goal to confront climate change and to achieve a better future for racing, by implementing continuous initiatives all over the world, as the Kingdom is an ideal partner in the field of environmental, economic and social sustainability, in line with the goals and programs of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. 2
